He ripped me open, exposing me to the pain in my soul that I’ve hidden from for fourteen years.

How can I ever forgive him for that?

He should pay for what he’s done to me.
He lives a life of callous violence.

I am generally willing to suspend a healthy dose of disbelief for a good story but this was utterly ridiculous.

The story takes up right after the end of the last installment. Sean has let Claudia go and she has returned to her life. Her first day back at work she is accosted in the parking lot by a Latin King gang member (who just happened to see Claudia with Sean during the 30 minutes they spent in public view at Central Park and concluded that she was important enough to Sean that he could use her to "send a message" to Sean.) The gang member begins to cut Claudia's face while explaining to her his plans to carve her into a Halloween Jack o lantern when miraculously Sean also happens to show up at this exact place and in the nick of time to save Claudia from being turned into The Joker.

So what does Claudia do? Does she rush into Sean's arms yelling "OMG, Thank you for saving me from trauma, pain and countless months of plastic surgery"!!!! Nope. Claudia is horrified that in order to persuade the nice man to stop sharpening his knife on her face he took the knife from him, stabbed her attacker in the shoulder and twisted the knife. Claudia is horrified. Clearly Sean is nothing but a "criminal" and a "monster of a man to whom violence was second nature". Because everyone knows that simply asking the nice knife wielding gang member to please cease the face carving so we can settle this like adults would have been oh so effective.

At this point Claudia decided that she is going to talk to the FBI about Sean's criminal activity. The FBI who also conveniently saw Claudia with Sean in their 30 minutes on public display at Central park; and had sent an agent to her house to question her at the end of book 1. (Apparently Claudia is SO memorable that everyone who needed to see her took immediate notice. I must have missed the description where she's 7 feel tall with purple hair and 3 breasts.)

Book 2 then proceeds to tell the story of Claudia's betrayal of Sean and I have to say this is where I really started to hate her. In book 1 we learned that Sean's father, who's one of the big boys in the Irish mafia pretty much coerced and forced Sean's involvement. Sean is scared to death of his father, who we learned beat his mother and still physically abuses Sean (who is too scared to defend himself). Claudia who is egocentric and self absorbed manages to convince herself that she can "help" Sean (after having an attack of conscience) by turning him over to the FBI. I'm not sure if she ever remembers that Sean had nothing to do with her kidnapping, protected her from Bradley who wanted to kill her and then let her go with no reassurance that she wouldn't go straight to the police (which was really incredibly stupid on his part). Sean was naively star struck by his feelings for Claudia; and watching her betrayal of him was a bit like watching someone stomp on Bambie's head.

The story then proceeds from one unlikely event to another until about 3/4 of the way through something happens that allows Claudia to add histrionic Drama Queen to her list of endearing qualities. This is also where I started to dearly wish that Bradley had killed her when he had the opportunity.

Unfortunately I'm in for a penny, in for a pound so I have to read the final installment. My prediction is that Sean continues to be a doormat where Claudia's concerned and takes her back, Bradley sadly does not get to kill her and there is some sort of HEA.

I'm really enjoying this series.

These books are super quick, easy but pacey, action packed reads!

For fans of kidnap, Stockholm type series, you'll love Julia Sykes' Impossible series. And along with the scorching hot BDSM scenes, this book is a real dark, delicious, guilty pleasure.

"I could keep you here forever. You would be mine completely. I wouldn't need any handcuffs or rope to bind you to me. Although I might just use them on you if I wanted to. I will fuck you into submission, give you such intense, addictive pleasure that you'll beg me for your next fix like a junkie."

I'm really looking forward to the final book of this series, as both of the first two books are cliffhangers and I can't, for the life of me, work out how this story is going to resolve itself!

Poor Claudia has really been through the mill in this series. The story followers Dr. Claudia Ellers after her kidnapping, as she attempts to get her life back together again.

"There is a way that you could ensure that we had enough evidence against him to put him away for life," he said, his tone careful. "In fact, with your help we might be able to take down the whole organization, get all of them off the streets."

The book includes blood, gore, murder, crime, some very kinky fuckery sex scenes, betrayal, mystery and drama.

"You're locking it away, putting your walls back up. You're going to destroy yourself."
It's too late for that. I've already destroyed both of us. You just don't know it yet.

This is one of those that plays mind games with the reader. It will have you questioning your morals and flitting back and forth between which ending you want to read!

You can't help but like Sean. Hardened criminal, captor and alpha Dom. And you want him and Claudia together!

"What I want to do to you is wrong, Claudia. I know that it's sick, but I can't help myself."

And then comes Agent Vaughn. Clayton. Kind, caring, law abiding, crime fighting Clayton Vaughn... And I can't help but like him too.

"The weight of what you've done will follow you; you wouldn't be human - you wouldn't be you - if you didn't. What you have to let go of is the blame. What happened wasn't your fault, Claudia."

Sean Reynolds + Clayton Vaughn + Claudia Ellers = Head fuck for Smitten!
Aaah!

If you want something gripping but quick, these books will be perfect for you. I'm thinking that most people will want to wait until the final book is released though, firstly because of the cliffhangers and secondly because the books are so short. I feel that once all three books are out, and the story is complete, this series will have much more impact. I'll keep you posted. :)

This review is for the 3 novellas of this trilogy (the three written from the heroine’s POV). The plot was interesting but the writing felt amateurish, trite dialog, and I couldn’t connect with the H/h or their love story. The third one (Avenger) was better.
HERO type is unclear, he’s bitter since he’s forced to work in the illegal business of his father. When he’s shot, a doctor is kidnapped to save him, and he falls for her.

Note, the following review is for the dual point of view version of the complete Impossible story…

Earlier this year I picked up Dark Lessons, the first book in the Subversive series. Whilst it works perfectly fine as a standalone novel, I found myself wanting more Julia Sykes. When I found out the Subversive series was a spin-off of the Impossible series, carrying on the Impossible series with known characters in Chicago, I knew which Julia Sykes books I would be picking up.

Thus, I went and brought the entire Impossible series.

Despite purchasing the entire series, I ended up reading other Julia Sykes books before diving into the Impossible series. Holden and Brandon are extensively re-written stories of the first two books in the Dark Grove Plantation series. Being such short reads, I was happy to dive into them when I had little time to read something much longer. I’m not usually the biggest lover of short stories, but I really enjoyed them both, which made me all the more excited to dive into the Impossible series. In fact, reading Holden and Brandon simply worked to bump the Impossible series even higher up my to-read list.

I’ll be completely honest by saying the book does take a while before it really gets moving. Although events are happening and you’re growing to enjoy the characters, the start of the book is rather slow. I was enjoying it, yes, but I was a bit impatient for things to start happening. For anyone who feels the same way, I beg you to hold out. Once things start to move, the story is wonderful.

From my handful of Julia Sykes books, I’ve reached the conclusion you can expect certain things. The characters will be a lot of fun with wonderful chemistry. The chemistry will lead to amazing steamy scenes. Later in the book the action will be really exciting. You may have to wait for the action, but the development of the characters and getting to know them certainly makes the wait worthwhile.

With Impossible, I came to love both of our main characters. I know Impossible started off as a single point of view, but I’m so glad it developed and became a dual point of view story. It was great to see events from both sides, especially later in the book when things really got moving, allowing us to see all that was going on.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one. It may have been a wee bit slow to begin, but I was addicted throughout. There is no doubt of me jumping into the rest of the Impossible series, as I cannot wait to find out more about the characters we were introduced to throughout this book.

OMG what a dilemma. Follow your head or follow your heart? The worst of it is I don’t know what Claudia should have done. I wanted her to do the right thing and help the FBI but I wanted her to follow her heart and tell the FBI to shove it!!

I am enjoying this series, it has me so confused as to what Claudia is going to do, I am constantly on the edge of my seat waiting for her to be attacked or found out and it makes for an exciting and unpredictable read.

There was a revelation in book one that I felt was unnecessary… the contents of the locked drawer, and when the subject was briefly brought up in this book my reaction was still the same. I wished it wasn’t there, because for me it’s like the book is trying to be something it isn’t, as if it needs that content to make the book credible, when it really doesn’t. Honestly this series is a great suspense/thriller with organised crime thrown in and doesn’t need the added complication, it just takes it a tad too far to be believable.

I liked the way the book ended, Julia has a good technique for endings. She doesn’t leave you turning the page thinking ‘Ugh, where’s the next line?’ but you are still left with a story you want to continue reading. This is the perfect finish for me, I am not frustrated, I am not screaming at my kindle, I can sit back and relax and wait for the next instalment, which I’m sure will be just as enthralling.

This is a review of all 3 books because I purchased Impossible: The Original Trilogy with Monster, Avenger, and Traitor in it.

************************************************

Oh my, where do I start without giving any spoilers??? That’s really hard to do when you’re reviewing a trilogy.

From Julia’s Goodreads page:

Julia’s primary goal is to take readers on a sexy, emotional roller coaster ride.

She did do that. She did an amazing job with sexy, emotional roller coaster ride.

I’ll tell you what, I was starting to wonder how screwed up I was when I was rooting for Sean in the first book. Sean was the ultimate alpha male, strong, way protective, seriously domineering. She was kidnapped and here I am still thinking Sean is going on my book boyfriend shelf. Technically he didn’t kidnap her, Bradley did.

There is crime, there is passion, there is heat. Oh my goodness is there heat. Julia, you have a way with words, on all fronts, not just the love scenes.

I loved it. Every book in the trilogy. I loved them all.

I’m so glad I got it as a trilogy and had them all right here at my fingertips, going straight from one to the next. I don’t know if I could have handled waiting for book 2 and 3.

I knew I was looking at a good series when I put all 3 separately on my Kindle wish list back in May.

I’m so happy I just happened to come upon Julia’s site during a blog hop and see that this was on sale for 99 cents. I knew I had the books on my TBR shelf. I had to grab it.

I don’t feel like I am doing the book justice but if I go into too much detail I am going to give spoilers. That’s bad. No spoilers.

It’s just really really really good and really really hot.

I think I’m finally getting over my book hangover I had.

Right now, Impossible: The Original Trilogy is 99 cents. You get all 3 books: Monster, Traitor, and Avenger. I’d snatch it now before the price goes up. I’m so glad I did.

DISCLAIMER TO MY FELLOW GOODREADER
This review is my personal opinion and may contain: spoilers, quotes, rants, cussing (sometimes I cannot help myself) and a possible full on recap. I in no way want to ruin anyone’s book reading experience so please read my words with caution.

Book 2 picks up with Claudia sitting at the FBI headquarters being questioned about her involvement with Bradley Smith and Sean Reynolds - members for the Westies. Holy betrayal Claudia! Agent Vaughn wants to plant her as in informant. I do not like this! Oh and Santiago, the man who almost killed Sean was deep undercover FBI. This all feels wrong to me.

Claudia returns to the prison she recently escaped from to see Sean. It was not the reunion you would have hoped for.. She keeps him at arm's length. Damn. That quickly changes when Sean shows up at her house. He explains the BDSM side to him and has Claudia choose what she wants. She chooses to be his sub. I'm not thrilled with Claudia for working with the FBI. I want Ronan to pay and I have a sinking feeling he killer her parents. It would be a great twist in this story. Oh and I think Agent Vaughn needs to back up off Claudia, right now.

Son. Of. A. Bitch. Claudia killed the man who attacked her in the parking lot. He came to her house with that damn knife ready to kill her, so she chose to save herself and shot him dead. Freaking ballistics come back.. What do you think they said? The gun that she used killed her parents! The fuck. Claudia goes to the apartment to confront Bradley about the gun, but Sean offers the information. Ronan's old gun means he killed them. I knew it. Sean knows about her involvement with the FBI. I'm too shocked about the predictable twist being true to care.

"I was going to kill Ronan Reynolds."

Cliffhanger – yes (book 2 of trilogy)

I had the great pleasure of receiving a copy of this from Julia before release. Thank you Julia for thinking of me and sending this my way before release.

As we know this is the second book in Impossible Series . If you have not read Monster yet , then please do not read this book, As you will not understand it at all .

This book picks right up where Monster left off with Claire calling Agent Clayton Vaughn , She meets with him and tells him all that she knows about Sean and Bradley .

She then agree’s to keep him informed of anything she learns from Sean or Bradley .

BIG Mistake there …..

Claire realizes that being near Sean again brings back her feelings for him and she can not refuse him at all . she is still totally drawn to him . They start seeing each other again , so she can get info.

But Claire soon realizes that Maybe Sean does not do the things he does by his own choices , Maybe he is being forced to do these things by His father. Claire does truly care about Sean and she will do anything she can to prove that he is innocent of the wrong doings and make sure he does not go to jail .

This one we get a little more detail into Sean and His BDSM , as he starts to treat Claire as his Submissive .

We also start to see that By the way Sean is acting he might truly have feelings for Claire , and he is truly trying to protect her from his enemies .

Claire also has Agent Vaughn who vows to help her discover who was responsible for her parents death. I will not go into this any further as you need to discover it as your reading .

I can not wait for the next installment of this series . Will Claire get the revenge for her parents death? Will Her and Sean be able to have a Normal relationship ?

Book Blurb:
The second book in the Impossible series. To be released April 12, 2013!

I couldn’t believe what I had done, what I had allowed Sean to do to me. He was a part of the world of violence that I hated, a world that stood for everything that was the antithesis of my life’s purpose. I had thought that I had gotten over the hatred that I felt for him when he had first abducted me, but now the agony that I felt at his betrayal only brought that feeling roaring back to the fore. He had ripped me open, exposing me to the pain in my soul that I had hidden from for fourteen years. How could I ever forgive him for that?

Dr. Claudia Ellers’ life, her very self, has been utterly destroyed by Sean Reynolds. She knows that she should turn him over to justice. He deserves it after what he did to her. Doesn’t he? Will she go through with her betrayal or will she succumb to Sean’s power over her once again, risking everything, most of all her heart?

Some spoilers in this review:
The story is really good but there is no character development. You don't know much of anything about the characters in these books. That was my biggest problem in the first book and I thought that I would learn more in the 2nd book but nope.

In the first book Sean releases Claudia leaving a cliffhanger of what will happen to each of them. In this book Claudia leaves and Sean walks away. Their story continues in this book. You deal with Claudia's confusion on how she is drawn to Sean yet shouldn't be. She deals with the BDSM issues within herself. Claudia finds out something and she tries to confront it head it but ends up giving Sean insight into her betrayal.

It's hard to give a review without spoilers so I will just say that this book reveals decisions that Claudia makes and her having to deal with them. Mostly you are in Claudia's mind.

My biggest dissapoinment with this book is that you know nothing about the background of the characters and the books are short (probably because there is nothing about the characters!). You still have no idea what Ronan is about and how he got that way. You have no idea how Bradley and Sean became friends. It's alluded to that Bradley was not a killer before but he's changed so what's his deal? Who is he? How did Sean get involved? What was Seans childhood like - you have no idea. Claudia mentions her terrible time with her foster parents but you still have no idea what went on.

The story line is really good and holds your interest but without the character development you want to just skip thru quickly.

I started the 3rd book to see what happens because like I said it's a good story line. It just needed to be developed more.

Traitor picks up right from the end of Monster. Claudia is now working with the Feds against Sean but in her mind she is helping him because she strongly believes in his innocence.

I saw a comment on a review about the mysterious drawer mentioned from the first book Monster being unnecessary. I believe it plays a big part in the storyline. The hidden drawer represents Sean's Dominate side. We only get a little of his real nature as we read both stories. There is so much more to be reveled--that is pretty obvious from the little bits here and there we get about Sean's violent father and his equally violent friend Bradley. There is also the gang war against the Latin Kings and the Westies (Sean & Bradley) that surround the death of Claudia's parents who were murdered.

Agent Vaughan from the Feds has offered to re-open her parents case in exchange for any help Claudia is able to provide by getting close to Sean; however getting closer to Sean brings Claudia closer to the truth of who possibly killed her parents and is Sean as innocent as he seems.

I think this book has a lot more to offer than Monster did as we get closer to the finale. Did I mention the heat between Claudia and Sean is even hotter this time around? Oh yeah!

Huge Thank you to Julia Sykes for the ARC. I can't wait for next book in the series.

"I had allowed Sean into my heart, making myself vulnerable to him. How could I have done that when he was the last person in the world I should have trusted?"

Goodness me!!! These stories just keep getting better and better!

Claudia and Sean take their relationship to a whole new level! The heat and the danger is insane! Seriously can not get enough of this couple.

"Yet here I was, falling into his arms all over again. I had to keep my distance. I couldn't succumb to him again."

No matter how hard she tried to stay away, Claudia just couldn't resist Sean-and vice versa.

This story took you on a crazy ride of lust, suspense, revenge and love that hits you full force! Not to mention a new guy in the mix;) craziness, I tell you!

"I don't recognize myself when I'm with you."

"I couldn't stay away even if I wanted to."

I'm going straight into the next book because I have to know how it all ends. I'm scared and excited all at the same time!

I have to know if Claudia and Sean make it through? Can Sean break away from his father's hold on him? Will Claudia finally avenge her parent's death?

"I had told myself that I was doing the right thing, but I no longer knew the difference between right and wrong. I only knew that I needed him, and I would cling to him for as long as I could. No matter what the cost."

Picking up where "Monster" left off, Claudia tells the FBI about her kidnapping. When the FBI realise that Sean and Bradley have ties to the infamous Westies, Claudia is gently coerced into going undercover to try to get some inside information about Ronan Reynolds.

Claudia's world is about to be totally turned on it's axis this time...pretending to care about Sean to get dirt for the FBI quickly becomes less of an act and more of a reality putting Claudia in a very tormented position.

Then to top it off Bradley is on to her and physically demonstrates his distaste toward her. Agent Vaughn, the astute FBI agent assigned to her case goes above and beyond for Claudia in return for her assistance...but is there more. And finally the Latin Kings thug who had previously threatened Claudia comes back to try again...this time with fatal results.

How long can Claudia keep up the façade...how much is Sean worth to her?

Not quite as dark as Monster, and true Julia Sykes fans will be pleased to know that BDSM makes a bigger appearance in this book (I knew she couldn't hold back!!!!)

A great thriller with hot steamy sex and ending with angst and uncertainty...UGH! Well until May when Avenger is released.

wow this book in the series was so good, I was so undecided on how I felt about Claudia. I was furious that she was going behind Sean's back to the FBI but at the same time she was making sure that Sean would be not convicted. I thought it was awful that she would sleep with Sean and let her feelings grow deeper for him but still not tell him what she is doing. Then half the time it felt like she was flirting with the FBI guy but then I realized she had not had any friends for so long that she was just so happy to have a friend but then he crossed the line. I hated how torn up she was with what occurred in her home, she had no choice but it devastated her and then the shocker of the book was the news Claudia found out about her parents, then what she found out from Sean, and then my heart broke and I cried and could not believe that was the end of the book but at least I can read the next one right away.

I have mixed feelings about this second part of the Impossible Triology - I'd rate it 3.5 stars. This book continues with Claudia and Sean's story. Claudia has agreed to work with the FBI to get info on the Westies gang, and she decides she wants to restart her relationship with Sean. It seems like there might also be some chemistry with Agent Vaughn (at least on his part.) My issue with this book is its all getting to be a bit farfetched. How many times has Claudia been assaulted or surprised? For most people it would take once and they'd exercise some caution and be nervous and looking over their shoulder. There just seems to be too many things going on in this story, too many things happening to Claudia that its becoming somewhat unbelievable. I'll read the third story to see what happens, because I do hope she is right about Sean and they end up together. But I have no idea how things will turn out here!

Well this title certainly fits the story. With the first book (Monster), and in my opinion you get a better sense of the inner turmoil of both the main characters if you read the 1.5 (Angel), this definitely doesnt serve well as a stand alone. But uh, none the less the story gets a bit more intense. It's definitely an emotional roller coaster at the end. That made me grian out loud in frustration. I got stuck in the middle of the story, not sure who I want to cheer for. I like all the characters so I'm in my own little battle of who I like more ir less. The ending is way damn climactic, I might have flipped off my kindle when I read it :) . Basically, if you like damaged and broken people this is up your alley. I'm certainly curious where Claudia is going in the next installment. I have a lot of conspiracies!

I did kinda liked this, but it went to far into the suspend belief for me.
So...you're girl calls yelling COME OVER NOW. When you get there COME ON!

There were some other things that made my eyes roll. But, not enough for me to give up. I'll read the next book...and in a couple of days I'll probably round this up to 3 stars, but for right now, I just couldn't do it.

This book is the second in its series and is part of an 8 book series.
Claudia finally is free from her captor Sean, but she is feeling super confused because she let him have sex with her. She doesn't know if she is just confused or if she really has feeling for him.

When Claudia returns from being kidnapped, FBI comes knocking on her door.

She finds out that the two men that kidnapped her are actually part of a mafia.

This book was really an emotional roller coaster, she finds out that the same mafia might have murdered her parents, and there are so many obstacles she has to face.

It was an enjoyable read but there was a lot of story lines involved.

Oh my goodness I wanted to beat the crap out of Claudia because she was going to betray Sean. I know that he is part of the Mob but she knows he's not a bad person so why can't she just be with him. She fights herself so much it was infuriating but once Sean laid his lips on her she melted into the passion that rages between them. Turns out Claudia is a Bad Ass! and what the hell is Clayton up to?
There is no HEA in this installment either. I have a feeling things are going to get even more crazy in the next installment "Avenger"

Book 2 in the Impossible series.

Traitor picks up where Monster left off. This book takes Monster to whole new level. The characters are obsessively drawn to one another and their relationship develops into more than an obsession. But because they are from two different worlds , they have become the focus of the underworld and the FBI. This focus will lead them to betray each other and there will be no way to turn back the actions that are done.

This book kept me on the edge. I cannot wait for Avenger (book 3).

After everything that she's been through, it would be absolutley understandable for Claudia to hate Sean for all that he's done to her, but try as she might, she's drawn to him. She sees the good that is in him, she knows he's not a bad person and she does everything that she can to try and help him out of the bad situation that he's in. Unfortunately, no good deed goes unpunished and Claudia finds that her efforts may be for nothing if she can't get Sean to understand the motivation behind her actions.

I cant believe she did it.

I was always hoping that there was another way. but no! dammit!

Claudia is now working for the FBI. She gathering whatever she can on Sean, Bradly, and Ronan. But can she keep her distance? I'm gonna go with HELL no!

Things spice up between Claudia and Sean. Putting them both in unpredictable situations. And they have to ask themselves, Can we survive? Can our love conquer everything?

You'll have to read the book to find out. If you liked the duet series, you'll like this tamer version of the story. still very worth reading. ;)

4.5!

This exciting story picks up details with Claudia's cooperation with Agent Vaughn, with whom she has a lot of erotic tension. However, she is still in knots over Sean, who she left.

However, she is convinced to re-establish her communication with Sean to help the FBI to find out about some Latin Gang and Drug Dealers and the Irish Mob.

In exchange, she gets them to re-open the investigation into her parent's murder 13 years ago.

However, she can't resist Sean...and then...

I really liked the first part (Monster)so i was kind of disappointed with the sequel.
so what i did not like was:
1. Claudia f*cking Sean and lying to him.
2. Sean believing her too much. I guess he wanted to get laid,so his brain stopped functioning.
3.Sean's fear of his father got on my nerves. For a dominant guy he was acting like such a pussy, Claudia had more balls than him ...

Another Winner in the Impossible Series!I was yet again Enthralled by Traitor.Julia Sykes has a way of writing that captures you and leaves you breathless.Without spoiling the story this is the continuation of Monster and what happens afterwards. Its like there is an Angel on one of Claudia's Shoulders and the Devil on the other where Sean is concerned.Im so eager to see where Book 3 will take us.This is a must read!
