This is a very long book split into 3 for the paperback edition. A loved one gifted them to me and it was truly a blessing. I love this author, and by April '25 I had been on a reader's block for years, and since I hadn't started with this saga yet, it did wonders to my getting back to reading. This was a memorable moment because he made me feel truly known and heard, I can almost forget that he bought it for me IN SPANISH. FOR SANT JORDI.

Anyway.

The story is great, though there's the usual incest themes that the author uses frequently. I like the aesthetics and imagery. I really love how Anne Rice gets you into every special interest she has. Her story-telling is interwoven with her love for history, anthropology and sociology, very similarly to VC #6.

I really loved the way the story is told through letters, investigation files... the Talamasca presence was a top element I enjoyed thoroughly.

All in all, it made me want to reread all of Anne Rice's works in chronological order (the one in which she wrote the stories).

Another thing that fascinated me was how close the themes in this story are to what I have been liking recently on the gothic/horror sections of books and series/films. In recent years I became very interested in ghosts and spirits that live in spaces and/or people's minds or memories.
