In the Silver Creek romance Unexpected, Cole Mitchell found love in the last place he ever thought to look. Now, in USA Today bestselling author Maisey Yates’ newest novel, Cole’s little sister Lark is determined to have her turn…

Having never left the family ranch, Lark Mitchell needs a little adventure—or at least a romance that isn’t confined to the internet. Her older brothers Cole and Cade have always been too good at protecting her innocence, but even they can’t stop her from taking a second job—where her boss just so happens to be the kind of bad boy she craves. Too bad he’s also the one guy in Silver Creek she should never touch…

When Quinn Parker introduces himself, Lark tries to quit on the spot. Everyone knows Quinn was behind the accident that ended Cade’s rodeo career. But when he holds her to her contract, she can’t help wanting to get even closer. As she begins to see the man behind the gossip, she sees that not all of the things people say about him are true…even if there’s plenty about this bad boy she has yet to discover.

Well this was a longer read than anticipated and enjoyable to boot.

The H in this one really was an unlikable bad boy with a capital B. He was a wild child due to some terrible parenting choices by his folks and he has been to prison a couple of times for crimes he did commit (DUI and robbery) despite being a rich boy. When he finds his calling in life - the rodeo his actions do not endear him to anyone, he is pretty much an asshat with no friends so they are quick to believe the worst when he is accused of sabotaging another rider (the h's brother). The guy suffers life altering serious injuries and our H is banned from competing for life.

Our H is having none of this, sure he is an unlikable, angry, jerk so he tries his best to make the situation 100x worse by employing one of his workers to spy on the bro to see if he is faking and employing the h with the intent of turning her against her brother with a side of seduction thrown in if that would help his case and help piss off her injured brother more. On top of this he will also financially ruin him until he recants his story and he gets reinstated. WHAT AN IDIOT prize!

However, he's not all bad as his mega riches mean he can set up a program for wayward teens heading in the same direction he was.

Our h starts out as a borderline agoraphobic who spends her life online and doing her best to please her brothers who raised her in fact shes pretty spineless until she meets the H. Her attempt at striking out on her own land with her in a devil contract with the H. One she realised who he is she declares her hatred and her wish for him to go to hell and that she doesn't want to work for him. He sees his chance for more angry revenge and is quick to point out she can't escape without financial penalty to her beloved brothers so she sticks it out.

Forced into each others company they get to know each other and she believes in the H and his innocence despite all his bad behaviour (of which there is plenty) she defends him to the hilt and towards the end he really doesn't deserve her because of his awful behaviour. She shows class and a spine at this point and I gave her an extra star for this.

Our H isn't totally irredeemable though and throughout the book we catch glimpses of his nice side. He genuinely likes the h and he tries to do the right thing by her not wanting her to get hurt but he is "too bad to be good" when she offers herself to him on a plate and he can't resist.

His grovel is pretty good and I believe in their HEA although I would have LOVED an epilogue with some mini-mes running around giving him grey hairs. I can imagine him having "the talk" a la Tom Cruise at the end of Cocktail about wild boys and girls and not ending up with the likes of him because he really was an asshat and he is lucky to have found the h.

I enjoyed this different dose of romance and appreciated the realistic timescales of marriage and engagements which hardly ever happen in Romanceland

“Love is complicated. It’s not magic. Not a thing you just fall into and stay in forever because you felt it once. It’s something you have to work at. It’s something you have to remind yourself to do, because it’s not just a feeling, it’s an action”

So true. Just for the quote, 5 stars.

Lark Mitchell wants to start living her life to its fullest and her first attempt leads her right into the arms of the man believe to almost kill her brother for a win at the rodeo.

Quinn Parker wants his old life back. He's felt empty inside since he was suspended from the rodeo when he was falsely accused of causing Cade Mitchell's nearly fatal injury. Quinn will stop at nothing to regain his old life, including seducing the Mitchells' young sister.

I found myself loving Lark. She was quirk,y but learning to live by taking life by the proverbial horns.

Quinn was very self-centred and more difficult to connect with. Although he makes strides to a fulfilling life, at times I wanted to smack him in the back of his head and knock some sense into him.

Maisey Yates creates a very entertaining read with this angry, sexy cowboy's transformation found in the unlikely strength and love of the quirky computer geek. Heartfelt emotions and two characters with wounded pasts build a fascinating ranch romance to enjoy.

I received this ARC copy of Untouched from PENGUIN GROUP Berkley, NAL / Signet Romance, DAW - InterMix in exchange for an honest review. This book is set for publication on January 21, 2014.

FTC : I requested this book for a fair and honest review. I have no relationship with the author bar a couple of twitter exchanges; I just really wanted to read a contemporary cowboy book with a virgin heroine (and I loved the first in the series) :D

I loved this book; the first in the series was sweet but the emotional depth of this one made it a real page turner. Lark was a fantastically feisty and strong heroine who was perfect fit for a damaged hero such as Quinn. The resulting love story is funny, heart-wrenching and just down-right swoon-worthy… I highly recommend.

Lark was the heart of this book and, for me, her character made the book as memorable as it was. Although she is introduced to us as the virginal misfit who spends more time on a computer than she does with people, she was surprising emotionally intelligent and strong-willed. She realizes quite quickly that Quinn is a) not responsible for the injury to her brother (there was much soul-searching before this decision was made) and b) a man she wants to be romantically involved with. I loved the way that she dealt with Quinn, trying to smooth his rougher edges with her own brand of persuasion and humor. She didn’t allow him to be a complete git to her, but she understood why he kept trying to push her away. She gave and gave to him, expecting very little in return whilst remaining a strong, independent woman. I thought she was a fantastic heroine.

Quinn was a complete git for the majority of this book. Bet you didn’t expect that did you?? Quinn is a truly damaged individual who has allowed others opinion of him to tarnish his self-worth and, because people expect him to behave like a git, he does. He brings Lark onto his ranch to get his own back on her brother (douche move), he refuses to bend to even try to compromise with Lark (another douche move) and, when he starts to push at her affection, he becomes an absolute arse. When he stops thinking, stops analyzing and just allows himself to be, he is bloody lovely. He is a truly lovely hero but the emotional damage he had mean’t that his leading lady didn’t have an easy time with him. Their story wasn’t easy but it certainly wrenched at the heart-strings.

The sex scenes were pretty outstanding. Although our heroine is a virgin, she doesn’t remain so for very long. The way that Quinn took care after that scene was one of the stand-out moments for me, really affirming my opinion of his true (very hidden) nature. From there on in, the sex is hot, heavy and frequent… just the way I like it :)

Special mention here to the side characters Jill and Sam who work with Quinn. These two characters work on their marriage throughout the book, showing that real love takes work and commitment. I loved their story :)

This book was funny, heart-wrenching and heart-warming. With a fantastic heroine and a grumpy cowboy with emotional damage, I was suckered in from the first mention of a stetson. On the strength of this book I will be carrying on with the series…I loved it!

So why not 5 stars? I have to be honest, the heroine didn't posses what I like in my heroines BUT she wasn't a horrible character either so minus 1 star.
Then the way Quinn kicked Lark out of his house was rude but the way Lark stayed with Quinn, even after knowing what he did to her own brother, was inexcusable. (I was going to take away one star but then the hero redeemed himself so minus 1/2 star)
Yes, she has overprotective brothers. Yes, Quinn is innocent (you'll see what I mean if you read it). Yes, Lark is in love with Quinn. But to lower herself by staying with Quinn after he told her what he did to her own brother that was a total no-no for me. (I did change my mind after Quinn goes after her)
All in all, It isn't a bad story. I just wasn't crazy about the characters.

5 stars....only few books goes to my-fav shelf and this is one of them.
This can be read as a standalone.

Our heroine Lark is the youngest sibling of Cade and Cole,cowboys......she is computer genius.... Hiding behind computer, more likely...her brothers smothers with her love and protection which becomes kind of restricting!.... So she applies a job online with contract without telling anyone...... It turns out her boss is Quinn Parker ,the man behind her brother Cade's accident.

Quinn is "the asshole"..... He is from a rich family, he is the youngest, the mistake her mother had with their gardener....so he is dark skinned with dark eyes among their golden family with blue eyes....... Quinn is out for revenge/clearing his name, bcoz he has been banned from horse riding/circuit after Cade made his allegations..... He is out to find our whether Cade is telling the truth about his injuries and who did it?.....he hires Sam ,his manager for spying.... Sam brings his wife of 23yrs Jill also .......we gets a parallel story of Sam and Jill ,which I LOVED!!!!.

So Lark and Quinn meets sparks fires....I could feel the attraction from reading it!!....so Hot......I loved how honest Quinn was with Lark always telling he is an asshole, don't expect anything from him......but our Lark can see the lonely boy behind the façade,so she loves him..........I loved the story..I loved the intimate scenes.... I loved their conversations/banters ... I loved how Lark leaves behind her underwear(so evil and totally sexy😀).....I loved everything

his voice was rough, shredded. “I don’t have the right to touch you. To want you. To love you. You deserve someone so much better than me, Lark. And you could find him, easily. But the one thing you won’t find is a man who wants you more than I do. Is a man who will love you more than I do. I have nothing to give you. Nothing but my baggage, nothing but my heart, such as it is. But I will do everything, everything in my power, everything out of it, to make myself worthy of you. To make you happy. If you would have me . . . Lark, I feel like I shouldn’t even ask. But I want to ask. I need to ask. I need you to be with me. Forever.”

Sooo...this book has me struggling to put my thoughts and emotions down because it’s all racing around inside me. I went into it just wanting to try a new author who happened to write a contemporary western romance series and the blurb sounded pretty good on this one. It's the second book in the series, but I had no trouble jumping in. I went from liking it, to being irritated by it, to nearly loathing and setting it aside and finally, to not being able to put it down. See? Mixed. Up. I'll try to explain without being utterly confusing after my summary.

Lark Mitchell is the younger, coddled sister of two older and very protective alpha males and she has an epiphany moment as she sits at the wedding of a guy whom she had a minor crush on. She's a computer geek who has stayed holed up in her dark room vicariously living and staying disengaged from all around her. As she sees it, it's time she pushed for a bit of independence away from the suffocating love of her family. She gets emailed a job opportunity to set up the tech stuff and computers out at a nearby ranch that has been converted into a reform camp for boys who've been in trouble. Lark signs on the dotted line and heads off on her first job away from home blissfully unaware that she has just made herself a pawn in someone's plot for revenge against her brother, Cade.

Quinn Parker, disbarred rodeo star and all around bad boy, is set on getting his pound of flesh from Cade Mitchell for pointing the finger at him for the cause of Cade's fall and injuries when someone sabotaged his horse with a metal spike under the saddle. Quinn's been rejected and shunned all his life beginning at birth for being his mother's bastard child and the rejections and anger have shaped him. Quinn suspects Cade set the whole thing up himself and doubts the injury is real. He's sent his man, Samuel and his wife to go stay at the Mitchell's ranch to go spy on Cade and he's set up Cade's baby sister to come work for him so he can both pump her for information and seduce her all in a ploy to hurt Cade Mitchell where it counted like Cade hurt him.

Lark is stuck between the proverbial rock and hard place when she realizes that she signed a contract to work for the guy who crippled and nearly killed her brother and he won't let her out of her contract. He's also hotter than sin and makes it clear he wants her too. She's never experienced anything like this and dives in with both feet.

Quinn hasn't changed his mind about his plans to destroy Cade Mitchell and use Lark to do it, but now he wonders who is seducing whom. Then he suddenly realizes he has a conscience. Still, he needs to get back the one thing that keeps him going and Cade Mitchell stands in his way of getting reinstated. He'll do whatever it takes to get all that back no matter who it hurts.

It was like reading a loose version of The Count of Monte Cristo with the whole wrongful accusations and revenge stuff and that need to be vindicated. Interesting themes of vengeance, vindication and hope of love.

At first, I was totally on board with 22 yr old Lark wanting to spread her wings a bit and it was understandable that while she adored her family and appreciated them that she would also want to be her own person and make her own mark on the world. All that made sense, but then for roughly half the book, repeatedly I had to convince myself that I was reading about a twenty-something and not a teenage girl. It was annoying at best. I felt very little sympathy for her supposed plight after a while. What I read didn't show me a case of overbearing and unreasonable brothers because everything about her- thoughts, words, and actions- proved that this girl did need a keeper. Her mental monologue really drove it home that I was reading a teen's thoughts and not a woman's. She was woefully naive and strutting around like she'd seen the world (Her 'I had cybersex-just dirty words mind you and I've never even been kissed- so I'm an experienced mature lover' had me laughing, but also feeling great pity again for her naivete), she was petulant and bratty and the 'stars in the eyes' love for someone who repeatedly did bad things made me shake my head. Picturing her in this romance with a thirty-two year old who may have been emotionally stunted, but he was a mature man gave me ick vibes.

And speaking of Quinn, I totally got his anger, bitterness, need to smash and destroy something because everything he cared about had been wrongfully taken from him and left him with the reputation of the guy who not only tried to cheat, but had busted up a guy so bad that he was disabled and in pain for life. And all that on top of the fact that his entire family hated him because he was his mother's dirty little secret that exposed what she did when he looked exactly like the gardener she cheated on her husband with. Totally get that, but sometimes he was described as this nefarious villain twirling his black mustaches that was over the top and took away from letting him be a beautiful flawed character who would grow and change when he experienced unconditional love and acceptance for the first time. Plus there was the very real fact that he was messing around with an immature girl who was confused and mixed-up about so much.

Now about the romantic relationship, that was a very mixed bag for me beyond the fact that I felt the girl was a teenager in her behavior and he was a seasoned man. It was like she was grasping at him in an act of defiance toward her brothers and he was grasping at her because she was the first person to believe him. They both emotionally manipulated stuff and I saw little of normal healthy relationship development. When someone admits they spied on your family, they set out to seduce you and actually started the process before guilt caught them up, they saw your head wasn't on straight at the time, but still slept with you, when they admit they were using you to stab at your brother, and they took what you said in confidence to ruin your family financially even you- yes, when someone does all that- its not normal to say I accept you as you are and I'm sticking with you, turning my back on my family, and I won't be mad because I love you. Those are things you call someone on even if you love them or should I say especially because you love them.

Truly, there were some good things- the family stuff with Lark and her brothers, the second chance romance for Sam and his wife, the scenes with Jake at the ranch, Quinn's development from a bad character set on revenge to someone worthy of a girl's unconditional love and just a little of Lark's faith in him. This was enough to help the story balance out to being a decent read that left me okay with the results if not the entire journey to the results. As always, everyone has their own take and others may really enjoy this one particularly those who love Contemporary Western Romance.

My thanks to Penguin Group and Net Galley for the opportunity to read this story in exchange for my honest thoughts.

#2 in the Silver Creek western romance series

This time we get to know Lark, sister of the Cole (and Cade) from the first book in the series. She is the younger sister, totally "protected" by her big brothers, so much that she has kind of crawled into a hole and hidden away. She has an active online gaming life, but other than that she works and lives from home. So when she decides to branch out and get a "real" job, it turns out that the boss is the arch nemesis of her brother Cade, having been accused of injuring Cade in a rodeo accident. But Quinn denies it, and Lark is falling for him, so she believes him. Mostly the story is about Lark and Quinn becoming a couple, with Cole and Cade resisting. It moved forward at a steady pace, with good narration by new-to-me Summer Morton. A good addition to the series--I will continue sooner rather than later.

27/7/14 - 28/7/14: 3.5 stars
The editing errors were really frustrating, as was the head swapping. I absolutely love Quinn and Lark and there were some great scenes, but I felt like their story fell short on this second read. Again, I skimmed through most of the scenes with Sam and Jill. But I am looking forward to Cade's story.

27/1/14 - 28/1/14: I really enjoyed Quinn and Lark's story but I had to drop a star for head swapping and quite a lot of editing mistakes, to the point that it was jarring and I often had to read a sentence a few times to figure out exactly what they were saying. Otherwise, I love the relationship between Quinn and Lark, and I absolutely loved that at times when he could have kept quiet about his plans for revenge, he told her exactly what he had done or planned to do. Plenty of romance and sexual chemistry, action and a great mix of secondary characters, though I didn't really need Jill's POV as I don't feel like it added anything to the story. Absolutely can't wait for Cade and Amber's book, and hope to see much more of Quinn and Lark in it, too.

I enjoyed the hell out of this book. Yes, the guy's too old for her and yes, he's a flagrant violator of human resource rules, but.... His banter with the heroine is witty, smart, super sexy and hilarious. If not for the overly coincidental plot resolution and sappy chat in the penultimate love scene this book would be a five star read for me. And I don't even like cowboys!

Sweetness. Very interesting, original plot. The h is a sweet, nerdly sassy (virgin) baby sister of 2 angry cow boys. Guess what that setting does to your potential love life... Nothing! So these brothers are extremely territorial and protective of the h.

H comes in then and I'm placing Quinn Parker in my book-husband list. Such a tender loving, older, hot rodeo guy who got banned because of some h related drama. Things get rolling pretty nicely.. The end is a bit of a drag I find. Overall the banter between these 2 is good. The h wants to come off as experienced and not shy when she actually has no experience with the opposite sex. None that reallllly count anyways.

I just got put off by the ending. Predictable and slightly draggy. I wish the writer didn't totally make a mush of this brooding alpha. The explanations and confessions and speeches by the H right at the end are so non-alpha imo. It's like those instagram paragraphs that women these days right every time they post a picture of their partner and how they met and how their life changed. Blah blah.........

I personally get turned off by a man who gets verbal diarrhea that way. Like Quinn would just not stop on going off on how wrong he was of letting the h go..... Which ofcourse was the writer yapping and not Quinn (my book-husband). I'll stop here.

This one's worth a read!!

4.5. I loved this couple. It's great to read about a couple that truly needed each other to help them grow into the people they were supposed to be instead of who everyone thought they should be. The banter between them was also funny and sexy, although not always believable that two people have that quick of wit - but hey, it's fiction :)

My only gripe is But I could get over it because again, it's fiction and a romance and you know things will eventually work out.

I first “visited” Silver Creek in 2013 in Unexpected. It’s a good story with a definitely different storyline than most romances. If you haven’t read it, check it out. OK, on to Untouched…This story is all about Cole’s and Cade’s little sister, Lark. This is a light read for the most part. Lark is a computer geek who rarely sets foot off of Elk Haven, the family ranch. Cole and Cade are typical overprotective brothers, although they are a wee bit over the top with good reason. The first time Lark ventures out on her own she unwittingly takes a job with Cade’s arch-enemy, Quinn Parker. The book starts off well, wanes some in the middle, then redeems itself at the end. All in all, it’s a solid 3-stars.

DNF. Not because it's bad but because it's not for me. I've got no idea why this was on my TBR. Evidently, I mixed it up with Unbroken by Anna Campbell, which does have a virgin hero, which is what I thought this was. Usually, western/ranch romances don't do it for me (unless it's BA Tortuga) and this one has a really unlikeable hero who is seducing an enemy's little sister for reasons. The heroine is a computer geek which is nice, I suppose.

Was so good visiting Silver Creek again and seeing what Lark is up to.

She really is wanting to do something on her own..She gets a job but when she goes to start it is her brother Cade's mortal enemy. But she did a thing and has to work for the amount of the contract..

Will Quinn use Lark to get back at her brother?

A good fast read. I very much liked how it turned out..I can't wait til the next book in the series to be republished next year..

I did not have very high expectations going into this book. Lark was made out to be somewhat awkward and of course Quinn is a super sexy but pretty much A hole. He does a lot of things that really tick me off in the book but his love for Lark is undeniable. I really did enjoy the book but wish Quinn begged just a little more...

Amazing story and characters

Maisey does this awesome thing where she tells two love stories at once in this series and I think it’s my favorite thing. What an amazing story telling ability Maisey has. I don’t know who’s story I feel in love with more Lark and Quinn or Jill and Sam. Absolutely phenomenal!

I don’t even care. Maisey yates writes the hottest cowboy smut around. She always, always drags me out of a reading slump. She just fucking rocks. This is one of her best 💖

Plus, hello? Enemies to lovers where they actually have a reason to hate each other and don’t just find each other annoyiny for absolutely no reason?? Hallelujah!! Praise Jeebus!

A fantastic storyline that includes a bad-boy cowboy and an innocent "computer nerd." Highly recommend this series thus far.

** The nook copy of Untouched (InterMix) had a lot of grammatical errors and other typos. Some were quite distracting.
