A collection of beauties with various beasts, the Love and Monsters Anthology, contains nine tales of passion, romance, and everything that goes bump in the night. Between these pages, you will find a night of monstrous passion for a woman abducted by the Wild Hunt, a lustful deal between the Minotaur and his sacrifice, the worshipful devotion of a Goblin King, and an archeologist who gets a little too close to a lecherous fertility god.
Volume Two Contains the Following
The Bodyguard A Little Malfunction Fertile for the Elder God Taken by the Wild Hunt Ravished by the Alpha The Robot Brood Claimed by the Goblin King Taken by the Minotaur
This is a bunch of spicy monster quickies, except……it’s not really that spicy. It’s just the same five words copy and pasted between a rotating door of nameless women and creatures with the emotional depth of a wet sock. Everyone’s scared, everyone’s confused, and then BAM💥she’s “gushing”. Because apparently, that’s the only word the author knows.🥴
Look, I’m not expecting Shakespeare. I came here for chaos, claws, and some fun. What I got felt like a very dramatic biology class. There’s no world building, barely any setup, and half the time I didn’t even know where we were or what was going on. But sure, the monster wants her, she’s into it (eventually I guess?), and there’s your happy ending. Congrats, I guess.
Honestly, I’ve read sexier IKEA instructions.
There were glimmers of interesting ideas, but they got buried under the rinse/repeat structure and the overwhelming vibe of “I wrote this on my lunch break and hit publish.”
Not the worst thing I’ve ever read, but I felt nothing. Not even a tingle. And that should be illegal in monster smut.
This book is a spicy collection of super critical stories with a little bit too much sweetness for my tastes. I like the spice, the leads are interesting. But I wanted some more world building, some more info about where the story was taking place. That's a real challenge with short stories, but at least a few more paragraphs would help.
The pacing was pretty slow for short stories. For most every story, the spice kicks in close to the end, with a vague HEA. There was more of an actual romance feel in most of the stories. I think my favorite is the Wild Hunt because the spice is significant for me. The rest are too slow moving and repetitive in a number of ways.
If you're interested in a more typical romance style with monstrous male leads but little threat, this one may work for you.
I'm not going to give an overall rating to Love & Monsters V.II because it really is a mixed bag. There were some romances (I liked those the most), there was one that was arguably quite sad, and there were a handful that did not work for me at all. The editing was also not as strong in this collection as the others I've read.
Adrian Blue is known for her short standalones with happy endings.
This is the second Love and Monsters anthology, and if I had to pick one story to suggest it would be A Little Malfunction. Where you can order a robot that can service you after cleaning the house.
Listen. If you only read one story from this book, read the goblin king.
I loved every story in this (dark romance is my niche as long as it's monsters, humans are icky to me) but the goblin king had me squealing and kicking my feet like a love struck teen. Was soo good, so sweet and was just. PURE.
Every single story was 👩🍳💋🤌 I loved this collection so much. I'm going to buy the paperback as soon as it comes out!!! Adrian is always an immediate 1click and never disappoints 🥰
Oh y’all, I love it here. Another amazing book filled with all of the creatures we love and so much spice that I never felt bored. I can’t wait to start another series from you Adrian!
As always, I love all of Adrian Blue’s short stories, but am delighted to be able to purchase paperback collections!!! This collection does not disappoint!!! Sexy Minotaur’s, goblins, robots, monster bodyguards, etc. so much fun, sweetness and spice!
So much to enjoy, so little time. 5. Plus. Because 5 is not justice enough for such a beautiful mind. Adrian Blue, just so you know, I love your style!!!
