Three Broken Promises

Rate this book
Breakout New Adult sensation Monica Murphy returns with a hot new contemporary romance—a heartfelt story of second chances, forgiveness, and redemption.

Commitment. That’s what I really want from Colin. Ever since my brother, Danny, died in Iraq, Colin’s done so much to help me, including giving me a job at his popular restaurant so I can leave my crappy waitressing job at the strip joint. But lying in bed with him every night to comfort him from his horrible nightmares isn’t enough anymore. I know he feels guilty about Danny’s death, about not going to Iraq, but I can’t keep living this double life.

I love him desperately, but he’s got so many demons, and if he can’t open up to me now, then he’ll never be the real partner I need him to be. I gave him a month, and now I’m out of here. If he truly loves me like he says, he knows where to find me.

Oh let's just keep with the "I'm such a stud I give my books 5 stars" tradition shall we? ;)

What would you like to know about Jen and Colin? Let me give you a few glimpses into their story:

-- These two are just...completely different than Drew + Fable.

-- There are two words that run through my head as I write it. Guilt and freedom. Guess what? You'll never be free until you let go of the guilt. This is the theme so far.

-- Fable's in the opening scene with Jen. :)

-- Even as I get deeper into this book, Colin is such a mystery. That guy is so closed off - he's driving both Jen AND me crazy.

-- Colin is also sexier than hell and hurting so of course, this is such an irresistible combo to Jen.

-- This series will be given a new name. A Goodreads librarian gave it the Drew + Fable name. We're still trying to figure out what to call it.

-- This book will be available in digital AND print on December 10th! I know that's a long time but hopefully it's worth the wait.

-- Just typing the above sentence makes me nervous as hell. Ahem.

Let’s get straight to the point shall we? There are no words to describe how much of a disappointment this third installment is. The first two books I absolutely LOVED and there was literally nothing I could pick on. Drew and Fable’s story was jam-packed with emotion and the author expertly explored the darker themes presented in those two books. But this third one? WHAT HAPPENED? What happened to the intensity I know the author can weave into the story? What happened to a captivating plot that should completely draw me in but instead left me bored? What happened to the addictive writing style I know the author is capable of? Nothing happened, that’s what. It got to the point where even an HEA couldn’t wipe out my frustration with this book.

This book boasted two of the most dim-witted characters I have EVER read about. Let’s start with Jen, the heroine.

She has no common sense

description

She yearns for freedom, but she always ends up running back to Colin. I was sympathetic to her because of her brother’s death and her not-so-glowing past, but really now. Does that excuse her stupidity? Her reason for running away from home was a big HUH? Then she wants to move out of town and picks a roommate and apartment. This is what she does:

“You haven’t met her (roommate).”

“Well, I’ve talked to her on the phone. Sent her my deposit earlier this morning, too.”

.....“You’re moving in with her.”

“Yeah.”

“And you’ve never met her in person.”
-Colin and Jen

What idiot sends a stranger your deposit and plans to move in without even knowing a little about the roommate.

And then when she she just collapses like the dainty little flower she is and doesn’t consider the consequences that may occur from this ordeal, like

And not to mention her back and forth, back and forth game with Colin. Another thing is, she may have been a wonderful friend to Fable in the first two books, but she is a bitch to her here. Of course, outwardly it’s playing nice, but inside? She’s always jealous of Fable’s “good” life with Drew and Owen. Never mind that Fable had to work her ass off for it and totally deserves every happiness in the world. Seriously, with every mention of Fable and Jen together, jealousy is an emotion that ALWAYS pops up. Some friend.

Strike One.

Colin

Not as bad as Jen, but aggravating enough. It’s so obvious to me, to the other characters, even to Jen that he has feelings for her, but this douche-nugget won’t admit it. He won’t let her in, but he won’t let her go either. And at the first sign of an obstacle hurling his way with Jen, guess what this dude does?

“I barricade myself in my room.”

“I closed myself off in my room.”

“I hide away in my office.”

“I finally lock myself away in my office.”

.....

Yeah, he’s a bailer for sure. I lost track of the number of chapters that ended with him running to his room/office. What a wimp!

Then when Jen reveals her secrets from the past, Colin gets angry…for all the wrong reasons!!

Strike Two

Colin + Jen = one hot mess

Colin and his horny self:

description

They have a boatload of problems, but hey, NO WORRIES! We'll just shag 'em out!

description

description

They're shagging experts.

description

Oh and don’t forget about scenes that were completely unnecessary.

Number 1: This event really didn’t bring out any positive attributes of both MC and revealed an even more idiotic side of Jen. Plus to my knowledge,

Number 2: Okay what was the point of this scene? I felt like the author added it in just so Jen and Colin could reunite with each other. Boring.

Strike Three

You’re out.

3.5 Broken Stars

Three Broken Rules is a spin off of two characters in the Drew + Fable series. The first two books, I loved. I was really excited to read about Jen and Colin after meeting them in previous books. This wasn’t a bad book, it just wasn’t near as good as the first two for me.

Jen and Colin have known each other a long time. Jen’s brother, Danny, and Colin were best friends growing up. Ever since Danny died in Iraq, Jen and Colin have both had a hard time. Guilt, regret, they both feel these emotions strongly for different reasons.

Colin, because he had made promises that he felt he hasn’t kept. There is one he’s trying desperately to atone for. That is the promise he made to his best friend Danny that if anything happened to him, he would take care of his little sister, Jen. Jen was not in a good place, but Colin has really turned that around. She’s been living with him (just as a friend) and she now has a good job at the restaurant he owns. Things are going good for them, or so he thinks.

 photo c7a861bc-40f0-4604-88a7-415d95ad145e_zpsa038f872.jpg

Jen is happy with Colin, grateful for all he’s done for her. But she feels like a burden. She has real feelings for Colin, and it’s hard for her to be around him all the time like she is. She needs a change.

 photo 772ab2ef-391e-4bc3-941d-8ae68c1e7563_zps090d9248.jpg

Colin can’t imagine Jen not being in his life. He wants to do whatever he can to keep her with him, safe and protected. But can he give her the only thing she really wants? Can he give her himself?

Colin rescuing Jen, taking care of her. Jen helping Colin (his demons and nightmares) Jen has to leave. She can’t handle being so close to Colin with all her feelings and not being able to do anything about them. Colin feels for Jen, but he struggles with his feelings. He doesn’t think he deserves her. Oh it goes on and on. It’s a little bit of angst over load (even for me).

I liked Jen and Colin, but they both made some really poor decisions throughout the story. More than once I wanted to throttle them both. I did love the dual pov, and there were some really steamy scenes which is always a plus. As frustrated as I was at times, I did enjoy the ending.

 photo a86a155a-d3d0-49f0-96be-ef16b9a407a7_zpsff497b23.jpg

If I hadn’t had such high expectations from this authors previous works, I may have enjoyed this much more. It was still a good read, just not great like the first two. I love the authors writing style, and I’m very much looking forward to the next book in this series, which is Owen’s story!

So I was very excited to read this book as you can see from the gifs I posted below. I was really looking forward to reading Jen and Colin's story after getting a taste of them from Second Chance Boyfriend. Unfortunately, while the story had great potential, I just didn't love it. :(

The biggest reason why this book only got 3 stars for me was Jen herself. Gawd! The girl absolutely has no common sense. I know I'm supposed to be sympathetic to her plight but instead, I just got annoyed with her. Sadly, she really ruined the story for me. Even her reasons for running away from home was flimsy. Throughout the whole story, she needed to be rescued by Colin. And the situations that she found herself in could have been avoided if only she stopped and planned her next step. Instead, she went about her life oblivious to how the real world works. I get that she's sheltered and all that but being sheltered doesn't always equal stupidity. Naivete, yes. Stupidity, no. She was just...gah! I don't even know where to start. :(

Colin saved this book for me. He was hot and very protective of Jen. He was feeling conflicted with his feelings for his best friend's little sister especially when he all but abandoned his best friend. He felt that it was his duty to protect Jen. Of course, Jen wants more than just Colin protecting her. She wants him. Period. And while Colin definitely felt something for Jen, he's holding himself back because of what happened between him and her brother.

This constant back and forth between Colin and Jen was the best part of the book. Their chemistry was hot and no matter how hard they tried to keep things platonic, their attraction to each other became too much to ignore. When they finally succumbed to the attraction, whew, it was hot!

I also loved the few glimpses we have of Drew and Fable and Owen! I'm excited to see Owen all grown up and in love.

Overall, the story was good but fell well below my expectations. But still, I'm 100% sure a lot of NA lovers will love this story. So, to all NA lovers out there, ignore my rating and read this book. You might find yourself loving this even if I didn't. :D

QUICK REVIEW -spoiler free
3 STARS out of 5
Genre: New Adult Romance

 photo threebrokenpromisescollagepicFINAL_zpse9e23e66.jpg

In Second Chance Boyfriend we met Colin Wilder the self assured, handsome owner of The District (a high scale restaurant) and Jen Cade, the tall dark haired beauty who is best friends with Fable. Both girls work for Colin as waitresses. In Three Broken Promises we finally get to see what is really going on behind all the tension that simmered between the two(Jen and Colin) in the previous book. And to be honest what we learn is not all that pleasing.

I have to say this read was hard for me I skimmed pages and had a hard time staying focused on the story. There was way too much pushing away between the characters and not enough pulling it together.

Jen and Colin have a history, her big brother Danny was best friends with Colin growing up. Danny’s untimely death while at overseas at war has brought sorrow and guilt to both Jen and Colin. They seem to not be able to move past well…their past. Each has made mistakes and decisions that they are not proud of.

After Danny’s death Jen goes to a dark place in her life. Colin finds Jen and offers her job and place to stay, she took the opportunity because at that point anything was better than what she was doing.

Colin has been quietly suffering from nightmares due to choices he sees as failures. Jen hears him at night so she often finds herself sneaking in to his room to comfort him. Nothing sexual ever occurs but come on can you imagine..the sexual tension is already lying over them like a thin blanket waiting to be snatched away.

Unfortunately guilt holds back Colin and shame holds back Jen. Neither is willing to acknowledge the fact that they could be more than friends. That they could actually be GREAT together.

And for me that was the crux of the problem, the fact that two people are not only unwilling to admit to their feelings for one another but then had the audacity be willing to walk away from what could be.
WHO DOES THAT?

My Rating and Why
In the end this just did not live up to my expectations which were pretty high because I adore Drew and Fable's stories. I gave Three Broken Promises 3 stars because unlike book 1&2 in this series the author failed to keep my interest with the plot. With Colin pushing Jen away I just found myself losing interest. I also felt that is was on the predictable side. Will I continue with the series? Yes. I am aware that every book will not be a home-run for me. I am a Monica Murphy fan. PERIOD.

My Ratings
Characters- Likeable however they both were testing my patience in this book
Writing Style- Fair but not my fave work by this author
Plot/Storyline- Two people hurting and instead of helping one another heal they spend time fighting what is right in front of them
Steam Factor- Medium/Moderately Steamy On a scale of 1-10 I say 5
Overall- I liked it. I did not love it.
My Recommendation : Skip it.

Now go forth and read. Then come tell us about it on Goodreads!

Three Broken Promises

In this story we find out more of Jen and Colin's history. We first meet them in the first two books in the Drew and Fable Series. Colin is the owner of the restaurant where Fable and Jen work at. In this book, we find out that they actually have known for years and that Colin was Jen's brother's best friend. Their feelings towards one another have steadily grown but both believe themselves unworthy of one another.

My feelings during the story...
It started off really well:

But it was also during this point that I thought-

The lack of communication between them became very frustrating. It wasn't so bad that I wanted to DNF the book or anything like that but I did want to-

smack some sense into the characters!
And the ending-

Very cute!

Overall a very sweet, VERY STEAMY, romantic story! It kept me engaged throughout and I never wanted to put it down. 4 stars ♥

P.S. Can't wait for Owen's story. I have a feeling it'll be the best one in the series :)

Title: Three Broken Promises
Series: Drew & Fable #3
Author: Monica Murphy
Release Date: December 31st, 2013
Rating: 5 stars
Cliffhanger: No
HEA:

I really enjoyed previous Monica Murphy’s books, but Three Broken Promises is absolutely, out of this world perfect romantic story that swept me off my feet. Once again, I fell in love with Murphy’s easy style of writing, great sense of humor and ideal characters. I really had a blast while reading this strong, unique and interesting novel.

img

Jen and Colin fight with extreme attraction and strong feelings that pull them together. No matter how hard they struggle to stay away from each other, there is nothing in this world that could part them. Both are consumend with horrible past and guilt, that slowly eats them alive, and that’s way they try to stay in friend-zone, but how long can they say to their heart no?

I could not get enough of this heartbreaking story. I felt glued to the pages and there wasn’t a single thing that could make me stop reading. The immense guilt that bled through the pages, made my heart ache and I really hurt along with Jen and Colin. I wanted for them to find peace and redemption and finally let go of the past.

img

Murphy perfectly captured their tortured souls and showed me how much they fought against their feelings. I could feel every single emotion that wandered through Colin and Jen’s heart as well as see how hard for them it was to make a confession.

There were scenes that woke up hundreds of butterflies in my tummy, made me weak in knees and left me completely, utterly breathless. I swooned, I laughed, I cried, I hurt got a ride on amazing roller coaster. There was also incredibly erotic part of Three Broken Promises, that really showed how perfectly Murphy can write a steamy, sensual scene.

img

Overall, Monica Murphy created another novel that fans of Drew and Fable series will immensely enjoy. Colin and Jen were great characters, their story was interesting and well thought and the pacing was fantastic.

I fell in love with Three Broken Promises and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series, “Four Years Later.” I really hope Owen’s book will as good and well created as Murphy’s previous novel.

Three Broken Promises is that kind of NA story with a lot of sex but little to the story. Yes there is a story but it is bland. I read this series long time ago. My taste has since revolved. Not a big fan of this anymore.

Miss Murphy older book does not hit the right spot for me.

Anyway.... moving on

This is Jen and Colin’s story. You may remember Jen as Fable’s best friend from Second Chance Boyfriend, and Colin as their boss at the restaurant/bar where they work.

Jen and Colin have a complicated history. They grew up together, and Colin was the best friend of Jen’s older brother who died in Afghanistan. Living with horrible guilt for not being there for his friend, Colin is determined to live up to his promise to protect Jen, and pulls her out of a nasty situation to give her a job and a home. And so, living together, working together, they exist side by side, their only intimacy being when Jen crawls into bed with Colin when he’s having nightmares – but they never discuss it. Both of them feel something for the other but are too afraid to do anything about it because of harboured guilt and secrets. They don’t feel deserving of the other, and they don’t want to ruin the sort-of friendship they have going on.

“It’s so ridiculous, what we’re doing. Why can’t we give in to this?”

^^^ That right there. That should be the tag line for this book, because OMG, the angst just goes on and on and on, and yeah, it’s ridiculous. Like earlier books in this series, there is a lot of inner monologue, and the inner monologue of Jen and Colin is essentially a whine fest about all of the stuff that they’ve done in their past, and how they can’t possibly tell the other how they actually feel. It’s repetitive, and it’s annoying.

“We’re friends, and that’s all it can be. I’m scared I’ll ruin our relationship if I take it further. I need her friendship more than I want her body.
Well. Just barely.”

“We pretend we don’t really matter to each other, but it’s time for me to be honest with myself. She’s so immersed in my world, I can’t imagine her out of it.
I don’t
want to imagine her out of it.”

It’s a case of – IF THEY ACTUALLY TALKED TO EACH OTHER, they wouldn’t need to play stupid games!

This quote is a perfect example of how annoying these characters are …

“You’ve been acting almost like you’re…mad at me.” His mouth sets into a hard line, though his eyes are full of worry. “Are you? Mad at me?”
No way can I be honest. He’ll think I’m crazy if I tell him I’m totally mad.

*sigh*

Finding it too hard to live with Colin any longer, Jen decides to pack up and move away, all the while secretly hoping that he will beg her to stay (not that she tells him this), and this puts them on a one month countdown before they will be separated. So, unable to resist the chemistry between them any longer, they decide to enter into a ‘friends with benefits’ situation to try and dispel the mad lust between them. FAIL!

“We deny each other what we both want. I’m starting to wonder if we’re both out of our minds.”

Yes. Yes you are.

“I’ve turned into an angst-ridden asshole that can do nothing but mope and push a girl away.”

Yes. Yes you have.

*sigh* again.

The sexy time is pretty hot, and in those little moments where they both stepped out of their heads and just went with what they were feeling, I liked the two of them together. Despite my ranting, I did actually like these characters, I was just annoyed at their incessant need to push the other away and then do nothing but whine about it.

Thankfully Fable and Drew make a few appearances, and weigh in on the situation. Fable is in fine, outspoken form, and then along comes Drew with his immortal words of wisdom:

“Huh. I never figured you for a complete pussy.”

Well said!

The situation is resolved, but by the time it happens, it’s so late in the book, and so suddenly full of swoony declarations, I was just rolling my eyes.

I think this may have been better as a novella. As I said, I like the characters, and their story was actually a good one. But I wouldn’t have been so annoyed if it hadn’t gone on as long as it did. I’m still looking forward to future books in this series.

2 stars.

Can I just roll my eyes from frustration?

Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy Colin and Jen's story. I find Drew and Fable's story more adorable and have a promising drama. Just... UGH. They really frustrated me even if they have an intense romance. They keep on holding back their feelings and it's obvious they want each other.

Colin constantly pushes Jen away because he broke three promises.
Jen keeps on whining because she feels Colin doesn't want her.
Jen wants to quit her job but doesn't have a plan where to go. (when she's supposed to be thankful for having a secured job and home.)
Colin wants her to stay but don't know how to express his feelings. (fudge. c'mon. man up.man up! I know it's hard but.. gaah)

description

description

Seriously.. their drama is pretty tiring. I'm just glad I'm done because I'm too irritated with them. The writing style is still great as always. Good ending though.

I had no clue who Colin and Jen were. But to sum it up, this is a brother's best friend book. They work and live together but they are both holding back secrets.

I liked that Fable featured in this book quite a bit and loveee her advice to Jen.

I don't doubt Fable's threat for a second. My balls are shrivelling up in feat at this very moment

What I didn't like was the main characters. I'm afraid Colin to me wasn't as likeable as Drew and his inability to open up to Jen just made me want to smack him in the head. Jen was just as bad with her past.

Overall there was a bit of angst, some sexual tension and a few nicely written sex scenes . A nice and easy read x

I just devoured first two books in less then a day so I could read this one !!!! this better be good too !!!!!! hope to see some more of ♥♡♥ Drew ♥♡♥

This is more like a 3.5 but oh well...
I loved first 2 books in the series but in this one nothing major happened, none specific plot was developed except the one when will they finally be together. And it goes round and round and round all the time. She wants him to admitt to himself , he can't because he is afraid etc. Basically same old story told in the same millionth way. But after she finally wants to leave and be free, not live in fear who will recognise her, well then he really figures that he can't live without her.
But secrets she is trying to hide will push him away.
The whole situation with them, how they lived was off. Kinda weird if you ask me. And after how both of them behave, and they do live together, it's just weird how long did it take them to get to that point. Especially after all the comfort they found in each other because of their past.
I enjoyed first 2 books more, but I am aslo looking forward to reading next book in this series.
Still not sure why 3 stars, maybe I am still attached to the series because of Drew ♡

2 stars

It seriously pains me to give this book 2 stars because I was so freaking psyched to read it. After Fable and Drew's epic journey I just knew I was in for something special with Jen and Colin. The little peeks of them in the previous book had me anticipating this so much.

So where did it all go wrong, you ask? Because obviously something had to put a damper on my good mood to rate this a 2. It wasn't the writing, which is one of the things I love about Monica Murphy. It was actually mostly Jen for me.

Jen ran away from home after her brother is killed in action and her parents can't deal with anything but their grief. She decides she's just going to go out on her own and make a new life for herself. The big effing problem with that is that she has NO life skills. Seriously, I don't know how she survived a day much less months on her own without Colin coming to her rescue. And it wouldn't be such a big deal about her being kind of screwed in the dependence department, but she does nothing to help herself out. She just relies on him while acting like she wants to be independent and free. She wants to run off to a city where she has no job lined up, no place to live, no way to even get there to look for those two things, and yet she boo-hoos when she wants an office job but doesn't get hired because she has no office skills? That's my big problem with her. She blamed all her problems on other people, and was irrationally jealous and mean to her best friend. She just really pissed me off.

Meanwhile, Colin is over here playing knight in shining armor to her, because he promised his best friend that he'd protect and take care of her. He wants her, but thinks that they can never have anything permanent so he constantly pushed her away.

And it wouldn't have been so bad if half the time they weren't both in their head going back and forth about their relationship and how they weren't good enough for each other. I was kind of over it by then. And the chemistry just wasn't there for me. I think Colin had more chemistry with Fable, or heck even Drew than he did with Jen.

So as sad as this makes me, I just didn't enjoy this one. Hopefully Owen's book will be better for me.

****4 Need A Knock On The Head Stars****

ARC provided by Random House Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Publication Date - December 31, 2013

So, I can't tell you too much of the story until we get closer to the publication date but I will say that this is the 3rd book in the Drew & Fable series.

This book is an off-shoot of the 1st two and is the story of Colin and Jen.  You will remember them from the first 2 books - Colin owns The District and Jen becomes friends with Fable.

Colin was friends with Jen's older brother growing up and promised to always protect Jen and take care of her.  Because of past secrets, Colin keeps the relationship between him and Jen platonic.  He lives with the guilt from a secret he keeps from Jen and she is also living in guilt in something she did in the past.

So you can see how the story will unfold with Jen trying not to fall in love with Colin and vice versa.

It was a cute romance with some adult themes and steamy bedroom antics!!

I enjoyed the story but after about halfway through the book, I was getting a bit frustrated at both Jen and Colin constantly whining about "not being good enough for the other".  It got to a point where I wanted to reach in and knock both their heads together and say "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"...."CAN YOU BE SO DUMB?"

Best part of the book for me was the heroine's name - Jennifer.

This story is told in the alternating pov of Jen and Colin.

I felt tortured by the main characters inner thoughts and simply wanted more from the story. Colin's promises and fears and Jen's insecurities were exhausting. I spent the majority of the book in their heads denying what they really wanted.

The story wasn't really angsty just kinda annoying. I can't say I liked Colin more than Jen or the other way around but they were nicely matched.

There was some added drama at the end which I found just odd.

Overall, it was nice to catch up with Fable, Drew and Owen. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

Okay so I have to admit that for a second I was like, who the hell were Jen & Colin again…

and so I went back to read the review I did for Second Chance Girlfriend looking for clues, what I found was this:

“I will miss these two. I really hope that Monica Murphy will consider a companion novel for Colin or Jen.”

Absolutely no help. So I did the logical next step. I went back to SCG and skimmed through looking for clues.

Then it happened. How could I have forgotten?

So now that my temporary moment of stupid has passed let’s get on with the good stuff.

I think both Jen and Colin were a complete mystery to all of us who fell in love with the Drew & Fable Series. There was definitely something simmering beneath the surface, but just what that was remained a mystery until now.

Colin is consumed with guilt over his broken promises, promises that all seem to revolve around one girl. A girl he was supposed to take care of. A girl he saved, but was too late to prevent the damage from being done.

Jen’s world changed when Danny died. She escaped the life of a family that no longer could see past their grief to see that their daughter needed them. And when she runs, she finds herself in a situation that may only be temporary, but the shame will last a life time.

But when Colin rides in and rescues her, she can’t help but start to feel something to the man that for years was just her older brother’s best friend. He gave her a job, a home but not the one thing she wants from him… himself.

No one seems to know where these two stand, not even each other. But Jen can’t help but fall in love with the man who is so broken. She can’t keep herself from comforting him when she hears him cry out in his nightmares, but it’s not enough for her.

Colin struggles with his guilt and his feelings for Jen. He knows she deserves more than the man he is. He failed her in every way, so there is no way she could ever see past this. But when Jen expresses her need for freedom Colin is pushed to face his feelings for the only girl he has ever cared for. But facing his feelings and acting upon them are two different things.

I could not get enough of this story. I wanted to throttle and lick every inch of Colin throughout this story. He was so infuriating. He had his demons and his guilt that he placed upon himself, watching him battle those and find peace was not easy to get through. I think I could have fallen apart for him, if I had not envisioned slapping some sense into him through most of the story.

And our poor Jen. Her past haunted her and she wanted to escape the reminders. She never could see her own potential, she only saw Colin’s actions as charity. Caring for the poor girl that was too helpless to help herself. She was such a strong woman that just failed to realize it. But she knew what she wanted. She wanted Colin. She wanted more than just holding him in her arms while he recovered from a nightmare. She wanted to be held by him, under him, connected to him.

These two had off the charts chemistry and once we Colin gives in to his attraction to Jen, we get some sexy time with the delicious Colin, who just so happens to have a little bit of a dirty mouth.

These two were just about perfect for each other in every way even if they were just too pig-headed to realize it.

Monica Murphy stole our hearts with Drew & Fable (and oh yeah, we get some them in this too) and she did not let us down with giving us the story of Colin and Jen. Although in both couples story there is the normal afraid to admit your feelings – runaway instead theme, both stories stand on their own.

This story gave me plenty of butterfly moments along with weak in the knees - toe curling and swoony-sighs. Although I loved Colin, part of me was just so drawn to Jen and her desperation throughout her story. The only real thing that kept me from giving this 5 stars was the feeling of the ending being a little rushed. It was building up so nicely and then when the moment hits – it just happened so quickly that I expected a little more. I wanted heart and soul pouring confessions, deep and passionate kisses and even a little pleading. I still got to the same destination without all of that, but after all the long drawn out angst I still felt I needed it.

And the story is not over. Owen is going to get his own book!

This book was such a nice read. It was easy and well-written book. Three Broken Promises is a story about friendship, loss, love and finding yourself again.

Colin has been having nightmares after losing his best friends in the war. And Jen lose her brother and the same time, her parents didn't take interest of her. She found herself into unwanted situation and has a past that she wants to hide. But yet, it was Colin who came to rescue her.

These two seriously need to have their heads knocked together. UST was way too much for me!

Pick it up and find out how these two will end up!!

4.5 Now I Have A Book Hangover Stars!!

I have to say I am a little in awe of Monica Murphy right now. I have literally read the first 3 books in the Drew & Fable Series in the last 48 hours, and I can hands down say each book has been better than it's predecessor.

Three Broken Promises, is Colin and Jen's story. You are given a glimpse of both of them in Second Chance Boyfriend, as Colin becomes Fable's boss and Jen her best friend. Straight away it was great too see Drew and Fable in this book, only as secondary characters this time, but I liked that we get too see how they are faring together through Colin and Jen's, emotional and often tumultuous journey together.

All of Monica's books carry a message in my opinion, and Three Broken Promises is the same, the main message being, to live for the future and not dwell in the past. Both Colin and Jen are struggling with grief, both for the same person but in totally different ways. Jen tries to run from it initially, while Colin uses is it as a way to avoid commitment and a relationship with the one person he wants to be with the most.

Danny, Jen's brother although dead actually plays quite a big part in this book, especially from Colin's perspective, and in adding this Monica really highlighted what a talented author she is. Having read three of her books consecutively, and loving the fact that she writes from all POV's you really do feel the different characteristics of each person, they all feel different, with individual personalities and traits.

Both have secrets, and in true Monica Murphy style, not everything is revealed straight away, always keeping you guessing, and although you have an idea of what has happened, there is always a little something that Monica throws in there, just to throw you completely off course.

I cannot recommend this series highly enough, all three books have challenged me with their story-lines, endeared me to their characters, and made me want more of the highly addictive writing offered by the author.

Colin Wilder is GQ beautiful & he knows it! He is gorgeous, cocky, successful, filthy rich, and a bit mysterious. He keeps up a front that he has everything together in his life, and he is very hard to read. He has been in the restaurant business since the age of 19. He was a playboy for years, never letting anyone close and avoiding commitment. He was raised by parents who never really gave him a real family life and a father that wasn't around much. He grew up best friends with a brother and sister named Danny & Jenny Cade. He was always envious of their close family. Colin and Danny made plans to join the military together, but when that day came Colin's father offered him a chance of a lifetime to own his own restaurant. Danny still joins the military without his best friend, dies in Iraq, and Colin forever feels guilty for not joining with his best friend. Colin lives with guilt and wonders if he had joined that day with Danny if things would have turned out differently. Danny had asked Colin to always look out for his sister Jenny. Jenny gets into a tough spot, and Colin comes to her rescue. He takes her into his home, and gives her a job at his restaurant. Through the years they have always had feelings for each other, but always kept their status as just best friends. Jennifer thinks Colin thinks of her more as a sister, and just wants to protect and take care of her out of some misplaced guilt over her brother's death. Colin has bad nightmares that haunt him at night. They are both there for each other, and spend time together as a couple would. They are extremely close, but Jen wants more. She is tired of him always playing the role of night in shining armor, and just wants a real relationship and for them to finally admit they have feelings for each other that go beyond friendship. Colin wants Jennifer too, but always feels he isn't good enough for her. When they finally give in & stop fighting it...whew, watch out! ;) I really enjoyed this book & thought Colin was yummy! The sex scenes in this book were off the charts hot! Another fantastic book in this series! :)

-The man is a talker. A charmer.

-He's also gorgeous. And he knows it. The dark blond hair, the piercing, pale blue eyes, and his face...no words can describe it. It's too damn beautiful.

-She's the total opposite of me. Dark hair to my blond, chocolate-brown eyes to my pale blue ones, sweet to my bastard-like ways.

-I want her. Just looking at her makes me feel all growly and possessive. Jen belongs to me. She just doesn't realize it yet.

-Cracking my eyes open, I find him right next to me, wearing jeans and a dark blue T-shirt that stretches across his shoulders and chest in the yummiest way. The man is as big as a mountain and I'm ready to climb him.

-He smiles, and it's like a billion tiny daggers straight to my heart. I can practically feel it cracking in my chest, he's so damn beautiful.

-I trace his lips with my index finger, the plump lower lip, the finely curved upper one. He has such a beautiful mouth. One I thoroughly enjoy watching when he talks, when he smiles, when he kisses me.

-I kiss him everywhere, memorizing his every line and muscle with my lips, branding him as mine.

-Having this man by my side, I'm the luckiest girl in the world.

Do you like to get annoyed? Do you enjoy reading a story with a whiny heroine? Yes? This book is just what you were looking for.

MY GOD.

First off, words cannot explain how disappointed I am with this. I thought I was gonna get the same angst I felt with Drew and Fable's story. But NO. I didn't get that. Not even close. I got pissed. That's what I got.

ltm

This is Jen and Colin's story. You remember them, right? No? Well, they're Fable's co-worker and boss.

Here's the list of things that annoyed me:

1. The back and forth little game between them.

2. Jen's lack of brain. How can someone be so stupid? I got so frustrated by her illogical actions. And not to mention her need of "freedom" throughout the whole book. And when I say the "whole book" I am being serious.

3. Colin's lack of balls. Do I have to explain myself?

The only reason I gave this 2 stars instead of 1 is because Fable was present during this non-sense. Aaaaaaand that's about it.

Needless to say, Jen and Colin are the reason why Tylenol and Advil exist.

I loved One Week Girlfriend (Drew + Fable, #1) by Monica Murphy and Second Chance Boyfriend (Drew + Fable, #2) by Monica Murphy . They were awesome reads.
I liked the characters in this book - but I found myself wondering WHY most of the book. Colin & Jen were a great couple - but I wanted more from them. I wanted this book to show a lot more sexy and lust! I HOPE there will be another book about them... I look forward to it.

Colin and Jen are two people with a lot of shame and guilt weighing on their shoulders. They're also harboring deep feelings for each other yet, both are afraid to admit them out loud to each other.

Colin is Jen and Fable's boss. He usually tries to schedule Jen on the same days/nights he is working. This way he can secretly be close to her and watch her whenever he wants. (That sounds creepy I know, but honestly it wasn't. Once you read the story you'll get why it's not.) It's not enough they live together and she soothes him at nights during his nightmares.

Colin feels shame and guilt when it comes to Jen and her family. He was her brother, Danny's, best friend. They were going to join the military together but Colin backed out and Danny still joined. Then he promises to take care of Jen and he feels in away he failed there too. Now he's doing everything in his powers to care for her.

For awhile Jen did some things she's not proud of until Colin finds her and rescues her. He knows about one of her secrets but not the other. He may never look at her the same again if he knew. She's hoping to keep her secret to herself, that's if someone else doesn't let the cat out of the bag first.

Jen and Colin play this push away game most of the book. Well, it's more like Colin as he feels he doesn't deserve Jen. Jen puts herself out there and they develop something between each other for a bit until it all goes south and she does what she does best, gets out of dodge.

All Colin really wants to do is take care of her, provide for her, protect her and maybe someday open his mouth and express his feelings for her. All Jen wants is Colin to accept her love and to love her back. Is all of that asking too much?

I thought Fable and Drew were good friends to
Jen and Colin and offered sound advice to them.

If you are hoping for a lot of sexy scenes, then there is plenty of steam in this story as well. Colin is one dirty talker and full of "energy" and can make any place work for them. Heck, Jen's no slacker herself.

I felt the scene with Roger was highly unnecessary. I think she should of at least let Colin do his worse to Roger, he would have deserved it. But honestly? I didn't see why it was in the book. There were other ways to work that scene for her and Colin to find each other. That's just my opinion.

This review is on my blog: http://bookchick2013.blogspot.ca/2014...

It's so good to read something where the couple knew each other since they were so young! I honestly wish I could have had that connection with someone the way Colin and Jen do!

Colin and Jennifer were a good, cute couple and I wanted them together the entire time the book was going, but it was like the book couldn't hear my yells and screams. I thought that Jen could be very annoying sometimes. I personally liked reading Fable and Drew's story better, I think it was because I liked Fable better. She reminded me of myself more. Jen just seemed a little... awkward to me. I didn't like the way Jen and Colin's story was. What I mean is how they were childhood friends (I actually love this), and she had an older brother. He happened to be her brothers best friend. It wasn't this that bothered me, it was how Danny died, and she would always comfort Colin. But they always acted as if nothing happened. This made me angry because I wanted to see a real relationship, and you could see it buried under all their freaking baggage. They both had so much baggage, it was another thing that dragged the story down.

I wasn't very happy with how long it really took for them to know they were made for each other. As for Colin, wow. He was actually very hot and I appreciated him, although his constant blaming himself was annoying. I didn't understand how they couldn't just help each other get though it. Anyway, Colin was definitely one of the guys I really like. I really like Monica Murphy's writing style and plan to read Four Years Later, which I'm overly excited before because we get to return to a world of Drew and Fable again.

I recommend this book to readers who enjoy New Adult or like Monica Murphy in general.

"How did you know I needed you?"

"Because I needed you, too. I can't live without you."

I absolutely loved the first books featuring Drew and Fable and I'm glad to say that I also enjoyed Jen and Colin's story as well. But in all honesty, their story was mainly composed of the typical push and pull between two angst-ridden people who have this burning attraction and passion for each other. It's just that I was really expecting things to go this way and that's why I wasn't that disappointed or as annoyed as I should've been had I expected more. (Wow, I really hope I made sense with that one.)

The great thing about this one was the writing, which in my opinion got even better compared to the first two. Even though there were several repetitive moments, Monica's writing still kept me very much interested and attached to the story even through all the b*llshit Jen and Colin put themselves through before they finally got together.

Jen was still as fiery and strong-willed as she was in the second book and Colin was still this dark, brooding, and irresistibly handsome hunk of a man... but what they share in common was their vulnerability, especially when during their sweet and quiet moments together. I'm such a sucker for couples who already have this sort of history and so it wasn't hard for me to believe the attraction and chemistry that they shared. All in all, this was a good addition to Drew and Fable's story though I would've preferred an epilogue looking more into their future together. But hey, I guess that's what Owen's book is for, right? Really can't wait for that one!

I don't think I felt the spark in this book that I did in Drew and Fable's story. I guess I prefer the crazy drama a bit more. Its the kind of book you expect what's coming. I found it a bit repetitive with them going back and forth with Jen thinking she wasn't good enough for him and Colin thinking she deserved better. They had no communication whatsoever. You can say I was a bit frustrated at the both of them. I did love the appearance of Fable, Drew and Owen. Overall, it was okay, not the best, not the worst.
