Dear Author, Our sire wanted two matching pretty boys at her side forever— that’s why she turned us both into vampires. We had some really good years, the three of us. But now that she’s gone, the pain of her death is tearing both our minds apart. I know he’s been doing stupid things. Breaking the rules our sire taught us. Risking his life. What am I going to do? He’s all I have left— just like I’m all he has, but am I enough?
Photo Description: A black and white photo of two young men— standing in profile— naked and nearly identical. They appear to be in their mid to late twenties; short dark hair, prominent noses. The background is completely black, the only thing visible in the photo are the two men facing each other, nose to nose in a tight embrace.
This story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group's "Love Has No Boundaries" event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.
Another great addition to the LHNB collection. A beautiful picture prompt.
Jack and Liam two men that were turned into vampires by Regina and both of them loved her. Although I'm not sure, I am assuming there was no sexual relationship between the three. Jack and Liam love each other, as family, but the grief over losing Regina sits deep and Liam is acting out. When dire consequences arise because of Liam's actions, Jack is going to try and save him.
I liked the setting and that they weren't a couple before or had even an inkling of the feelings of the other. I also loved how Jack made his point, he was spot on to be angry with how Liam was going to resolve things.
Two vampires lose Regina, the vampire who had sired them. One of them, Liam, is lost in his grief and his actions are putting his own life at risk. Jack is also hurting, not only for the loss of Regina but for the loss of Liam.
"Now, I know you boys are messed up with her gone. But he's out of control, Jack. You need to get a handle on him before someone else does. I don't know much about your...situation, but I do know from what Regina told me that you aren't supposed to be waving your freak flag like he is."
I found this a really interesting paranormal story to read - a bit of world building and even a bit of werewolf confrontation but mainly a story about grief and feelings and love.
I did find myself at the end wishing to see a little more physical action between Jack and Liam so maybe a follow up story is needed. Oh, and I would love to see a story written about the two men once they had taken werewolf blood!
I really enjoyed this story, the characters and the world building. I would love to read more about these two. Great interpretation of the photo and the story letter. Thank you Reece McKinley for donating your story, your time and your talent.
The emotional turmoil Jack was going through in such short time was done pretty well. I would have liked to learn more about the relationship between the three f them, especially in regards to Regina, to better understand Liam though.
I wanted to like this a lot more than I did. One hot vampire is lovely, but two? together? Sign me up!
Unfortunately, I just had too many questions the whole time to be able to relax and enjoy the story.
I get that Regina was sire to both MC's. What I don't get is exactly what the relationship dynamics were among the three of them. They all live in the same house, but apparently not "together" because Liam and Jack are all awkward and uncomfortable about their mutual attraction. Jack mentions a few times that Liam and Regina were together when they found him, but then he also mentions cuddling with Regina and watching movies. So were they both her boyfriend, but not each others'?
Interesting world, with the queen and the enforcers, and the weres and other stuff, I just wish I'd not been left with so many questions. It made the whole relationship feel unsatisfying.
Jack and Liam are two vampires who have lost their sire. Each of them struggle with this loss in their own ways, Liam more so than Jack. Because of this, Jack has to clean up after Liam's self-destructive behavior. There is more to Liam's behavior than meets the eye, and Jack must rush to keep things from spiraling to a very tragic outcome.
Normally, I shy away from vampire fics. They have a tendency to be more graphic than I am comfortable with, but this story wasn't like that. The world that Jack and Liam live in was as close to our "normal" world that I've ever seen in a vampire fic. Their world is ruled by a Queen and a set of laws that must be obeyed by all vampires, keeping the vampires in control. I appreciated that.
I loved all the paranormal secondary characters. Each was woven into the story with care.
I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for more stories from this author.
It's a vampire story which is never my favorite but this one wasn't too bad. One vampire acts out of control for a while out of grief and guilt. We later find out it's also because of his hidden feelings he has for the other vampire. I felt the miscommunication was a little forced but the romantic elements were nice.
The world building in this story complimented the story line perfectly. The characters had great depth, even in this shorter format. Having the younger MC be more sensible than the older MC was a unique twist that made the story even more interesting. I greatly enjoyed it!
In general, I enjoyed this story. The only problem I had was with Liam as a Confederate soldier.
Perhaps when this was written, it wouldn't have been so jarring. After more than 4 years of othering, racism, and white supremacy marches culminating in an attempted coup, I see the confederacy as traitors and oppressors, not as something honorable.
Maybe in another 8 years, if the U.S. and the world, hasn't sunk into an authoritarian, nationalist mess, Liam as a traitor won't feel as immediate as it does today in December 2021.
A cool take on the vampire world-my favorite paranormals. Each mm writer of a vampire world seems to give it a twist, as in this book Liam and Jack were eating very rare steak and in one scene Jack’s ‘heart jumped’. Other vampire books have no eating of food or the heart is not functional after being turned. It makes for interesting reading, the different takes. This story was well written with two attractive MCs.
After losing their Sire Regina, both Jack and Liam struggles. Jack (the younger one) is trying to keep Liam in check, but Liam just keeps getting into trouble.
Sure, it was a fast and easy read. But it lacked in the build up of feelings between them. For such a short story, there was too much focus on Jack and him trying to , and not enough interaction and build up between the two of them. And it ended just after it had gotten good...
LHNB Story released 24.6.13 3.5 stars rounded up Nice story of two vampires and their struggle to come to terms with the death of their sire and the relationship between themselves as they pull in different directions.
I really loved this! I really enjoyed the world building and vampire politics and such, very detailed and unique! And I really enjoyed the characters, I loved when Liam showed Jack his box and pretty much enjoyed the whole thing. Great story, thank you!
I never thought I'd give a 5 star rating to a short read but here it is. The writing is excellent, the story engaging, it's not overwhelmed by sex and I love the characters.
My only problem is that there's no back list for this author and I want a lot more, preferably novel length!
Vampires, werewolves, and politics like queens and sires and alpha werewolves, mix in Jack and Liam and it's fun. Jack's frustrations, Liam's heartbreak, I hope there is more of these two in the future!
