Librarian's note: This is an alternate cover edition for ASIN: B00FFS2U1E.

Everyone has secrets; secrets meant to be kept—hidden away where nobody can discover the truth. Adrian O’Donnell (aka: Dre Donley) is no exception. Dre spins tales and half-truths like it’s his job, keeping the reality of his past buried deep within each lie he fabricates. On the other hand, Kathryn Howell is the exception to the rule. She’s a straight-shooter, a tell-it-like-it-is, no filter kind of girl.

Kathryn’s honesty and straightforwardness is the ultimate turn on for a guy like Dre. He’s never met someone so sincere, so full of truth and innocence. Their chemistry is unavoidable, their connection, magnetic. When Dre sets out to make Kathryn fall for him, he doesn’t realize the grave mistake he’s making. Kathryn’s strength and convictions do not falter, even for an irresistible man like Dre. When his past resurfaces, and the lies come tumbling forth, Kathryn must decide if his deceit and betrayal can be forgiven or if the damage is irreparable. Will the truth ultimately destroy the relationship that neither one of them could deny or even attempt to resist?

This novel is for mature readers only, due to language and sexual content.

4.5--Won-DRE-ful--Stars!!!

This book had my two favorite things....

It made me

and it was HOT

Can't Go Home is the story of Dre and Kathryn. Kathyrn and Dre are both in their mid-twenties, post college. Kathryn works for a literary agency and Dre does the odd job around town. Dre is super mysterious and keeps his past hidden.

Kathryn is a no-nonsense, tell it like it is chick that doesn't play games (thank gawd). Dre overhears Kathryn on a phone conversation and has to meet her.

He keeps popping up everythere. Dre has a rep for being pretty aloof and guarded. He doesn't let anyone get close to him, keeps everyone at a distance. So Kathryn is kind of puzzled by his persuit of her.

The more time they spend together the more they start to really like each other. But Dre won't open up about himself and his past. He's afraid of what Kathryn's reaction will be and that she won't be able to accept him.

There is a mysterious peson from Dre's past that sends him letters but he won't tell Kathryn who it is. She kind of gives Dre an ultimatum either open up to me or

Dre's past and secrets finally catch up with him.....dun dun dun!

I'm sorry did you say Dre was...WHAT?...Dre's....no way!

I should have seen that coming....but I kind of didn't. Damn! That's interesting.

Things really pick up from here and all of the secrets and Dre's past is exposed. I think what I really liked about this book (other than the banter and hot sex of course) was that it didn't have stupid drama. And the characters reactions to said drama wasn't OTT and annoying. Kathryn doesn't give up on Dre....she stands by him and they went through it together.

I thought this was a great debut for Angelisa Stone and I will definitely be reading the rest of the books in the series. This was the perfect read for me....funny, sexy and sweet with a bit of drama. It was told in dual POV. It was a standalone with HEA.

This is one of those cutesy books that at the end of it you go:

Dre was a little creepy in the beginning with his stalking of Kathryn to learn more about her.

But then I found out his reasoning later on so it wasn't so bad....

Kathryn does what any typical girl does and tries to locate information about Dre on the internet.....

But she comes up with

Then she finds out why he was so mysterious......

but loves him anyway....

and meets his parents

I have to admit that I've been in a bit of a book slump. Reading the same stories over and over. And, let's face it...writing the same ones over and over. Then I got my hands on Can't Go Home. I loved the character development, the bantering between the characters and the laugh out loud moments. But what I really loved most was the book made me ask myself, "If this was the secret of the man I was falling in love with, would my feelings for him change?" See, even though this book has a feel good, funny, STEAMY, SEXY vibe, it also has a message. It's more than just a girl met hot guy and there's angst and then they get it on. It's got a twist, a twist that some people may freak out about, but then you have to ask yourself, why? What kind of person are you?
I highly recommend this book.

When Dre spots Kathryn getting out of her car he didn't see anything too special. But when he notices her actions, it catches his attention. Now the stranger that barely caught his eye has become an obsession over the last month. He has to meet her.

“The problem is when I actually meet Kathryn and talk to her all I’m going to do is lie like crazy to her.”

Dre is hiding secrets of his past and to protect those secrets he has mastered the art of deflection and lies. Kathryn is pure honesty. She’s tired of being mousy and if she learned one thing in college it was that she was going to speak her mind.

“Everyone knows his name. Every guy wants to be him; every woman wants to bed him.”

Dre wasn't looking for a woman, in fact he’s stayed away from them for the past year. It’s only going to complicate his life and he knows that he has too many secrets to let anyone in. But this woman that has captured his attention has gotten under his skin. Kathryn knows men like Dre don’t end up with girls like her, but she is going to enjoy the ride while it lasts and try at all cost to protect her heart. But Dre seems to want more than just a few nights with her, but he knows eventually he will have to tell her the truth and he isn't ready for her to walk away.

This story is split into two parts, the first is the normal, meet – chase – capture type story. But when there are just so many unknowns as to just who Dre is, the second story begins when he has to fess up to his past.

This story had me in fits of giggles throughout the entire book. These two had some great chemistry and the author did a fabulous job with the dialogue.

“There’s just something about being with her that has my head all in jumbles, and my hands in fumbles. And I’m turning into Dr. Fucking Seuss.”

The characters were likable and easy to connect with. And get this, Kathryn… yeah the woman who couldn't see what a man like Dre would see in her, that same woman showed zero insecurities when it came to him or the woman that sniffed around. Halle-fucking-lujah! The only thing that kept this from a full 5 stars was that I wanted Dre to be just a tad bit more broken. Yep, I like them shattered. When they are completely torn down that is when they are at their best.

And we get a great final chapter that was more like an epilogue and full of inspiration that reaches out beyond the book.

Jenny & Gitte: 4.5 WonDREful stars!

Jenny:
When we were approached to read and review Cant’ Go Home, the debut novel by Angelisa Stone, the synopsis certainly had us intrigued so we delved straight in. Within the first few pages, we were hooked and dying to find out more about the elusive and mysterious Dre Donley weren’t we Gitte? Just what was this luscious and very uber hottie hiding? What was his story? I had no idea what to expect and loved turning every page to find out.

‘When you experience a few seconds of bliss, a lifetime of mediocrity isn’t going to cut it. Those dang “what ifs” will haunt you for a lifetime.’

Whilst some themes in this story may seem similar to some other books on offer at the moment, what made this book different for me, and I know you felt the same Gitte, was the heroine and the banter between her and Dre. Kathryn was so much fun. I fell in love with her immediately and that never faltered at all right up until the end. She is one of my favourite heroines without a doubt!

‘I’m not going to lie; I like the complexity and mystery that he brings to the table. However, he scares me, because this feels like the calm before the storm, the bliss before the heartache.’ – Kathryn

This girl was spunky, funny, had no filter, was forthright, engaging and she gave as good as she got and was the perfect foil for the cagey and very, very gorgeous Mr Donley…..Oh and I was seriously swooning over him!!

‘I was terrified of her knowing the truth and not wanting me, which I couldn’t bear.’ – Dre

The interaction between these two had me giggling out loud at times and I know we cackled a few times while discussing it. Yep, we loved this sexy, hot, fun and intriguing story didn’t we Gitte?

Gitte: Absolutely Jenny, this story made me laugh out loud, it had me swooning and intrigued and it had one of the most honest and lovable heroines. I actually think for once the heroine is what kept me reading. She had no filter and I completely identified and connected with her.

‘I wanted to meet the woman who put that much energy, selfless energy, into a random act of kindness. Who did that?’…’This is not the type of girl I’m used to. Kathryn is straightforward, honest and as intriguing as hell.’ - Dre

As for Dre, well he sure was an attractive enigma and I couldn’t wait to find out what he was hiding…*cough*….

‘Dre Donley is known around the city as “the gift from unknown”. Everyone knows his name. Every guy wants to be him; every woman wants to bed him. However nobody really knows him…’ – Kathryn

‘Can’t Go Home’ had a real beauty to it, a great message and characters that were believable with real depth and hearts of gold. Reading it from cover to cover is easy because of the fab writing and the flawlessness of a great story. Yeah, I really enjoyed this one too Jenny!

Jenny: Yep, we certainly had fun discussing this one! I loved that it was told in alternating POV’s between Dre and Kathryn as it offered me the ability to experience exactly what each of these complex characters were feeling about themselves and each other. Getting inside their heads became a necessity for me and I was smitten with this pair and their budding relationship. But it wasn’t just the growing relationship, the trusting, the opening up and the connection between Dre and Kathryn that had me hooked and reading Can’t Go Home with a huge smile on my face, it was also the secondary characters. What a great addition they were! The upfront, say it as it is Sydney (Kathryn’s unorthodox BFF), who incidentally never failed to crack me up every scene she was in, and Rory, Dre’s equally out there and extremely hot BFF. The whole dynamics of these guys made this book such an enjoyable read and they added a whole new dimension to the Can’t Go Home.

‘I should’ve fucking stayed away from her. Now, I feel guilty. And sad. Guilty and sad. And horny. Guilty, sad and horny. Guilty, sad, horny, and fucking sad.’ – Dre

I have to admit that the reveal didn’t knock my socks off, but some aspects of it did take me by surprise. I had somewhat guessed something of the sort, but that didn’t in any way take away from the twist that eventuated, because for me it was the journey that drove me to that point that I particularly loved.

‘That’s the thing about pain, you only realize how bad it is when you actually see the hurt it’s caused.’ – Dre

This one had it all. It was emotional, funny, swoony, engaging, STEAMY HOT and possessed two main characters who will tickle your funny bone, having you fanning yourself and who will steal your heart. This was just what I needed and enjoyed every minute. The final POV/Epilogue was surprising and well placed as it gave us further insight into the dynamics of the characters. Can’t Go Home is definitely one to add to those TBR’s!!

Gitte: Yes, I definitely enjoyed having the dual POV. It was certainly necessary in order to understand some of Dre’s actions and the motivations behind them. I fell in complete love and have to say Kathryn and Dre were fantastic characters, we really got to know them and they felt like friends. Talking about friends, Sydney had me in stitches, she’s a self-obsessed bitch but hey…I loved her and as for Rory…ummm cold shower please!!! The relationship between all the characters was brilliant and the speed at which their story unfolded was fab. And for once after the ‘wooing’ by the confused ‘stalker hero’, the heroine had the balls to chasing whilst the hero did the running. Refreshing! Mind you I’d do the chasing too if the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow was the yummy Dre!!

“You can’t be someone you want to be if you don’t admit who you once were.”

As for the big reveal, well I wasn’t shocked as the signs were there, however the whole build up I agree was what made this story as enjoyable as it was. I would have liked more ‘afters’ despite the surprise last chapter but then that’s just me. It didn’t necessarily need it. So yeah, Jenny, you are spot on, Can’t Go Home pretty much had it all and should without doubt be put on everyone’s TBR’s!!

“When the weak can’t fight for themselves, we absolutely have to fight for them.”

She rocks back against me; I’m soaring, growing, grinding, and yearning. This is everything. She is everything. I can feel my need for deep within my body, my soul. This is right. It’s perfect.

I’m smiling like a loon. I would’ve finished this book earlier, but I wanted to savor the opportunity to finish it on my day off so I can just feel euphoric for a little while longer. This book had tons of things I love in my romance stories: A gorgeous, possessive Hero, lots of banter, which of course leads to some serious sexual tension….and when it finally bursts…ahhh…I’m in pure heavenly bliss.

Dre’s look is polished, but messy; perfect, but flawed.

The beginning of the book immediately grabbed me. How could it not when we were immediately inside our Hero’s mind; and what a mind it is. I LOVE stories with duel POVs.

Dre notices Kathryn, our spunky heroine, almost immediately. She’s not usually the typical girl Dre goes for who are normally tall, blonde, and easily accessible. Dre notices little things about her that captures his interest. He’s instantaneously smitten and wants nothing more than to get to know her.

“The fact that you even recognize that there are parts of you that want to change makes you worthy of your own reflection. You can look in that mirror, Dre. Seriously, you’ll probably be proud of who you see. I know I’m starting to like what I see”

I loved Kathryn’s character. I loved her spirit, her honesty and just…her. She’s incredibly smart and not afraid to speak her mind. I loved how she doesn’t instantly fall for Dre’s full-proof-panty-dropping smile or antics. She knows guys like Dre don’t normally go for girls like her, so why is he even bothering? But don’t let her strong façade fool you, she definitely lusts after him. Its just a matter of time, really.

I’m not going to lie; I like the complexity and mystery that he brings to the table. However, he scares me, because this feels like the calm before the storm, the bliss before the heartache.

Watching Dre & Kathryn’s relationship blossom was so sweet to read. I love Dre. He didn’t know what hit him when he began his pursuit of her. However, no matter how much he wanted to, he really couldn’t let all his walls down. You see, Dre is hiding a huge secret, one that could threaten his new relationship with Kathryn. Once she finds out all his secrets, will she be strong enough to stay?

I use to think that I couldn’t go home, but the truth is, I can go anywhere as long as I have happiness and love. But geez, was that a hard lesson to learn.

This story was such a joy to read. The writing was phenomenal. The story was delivered flawlessly and I really connected with all the primary and secondary characters. As Dre’s secrets start to unravel, I couldn’t help but be moved by his strength and determination to move forward. And when Kathryn finally finds out, she remains steadfast at his side. I just LOVED their connection and just loved this book! I cannot wait to see what this author writes next.

Wow my first DNF ------> am I reading something different from all of y'all people???

This really sounded like a wonderful book: suspenseful moments surrounding hero/heroine, LOL scenes, but honestly? The first 100 pages smacked me with enough "WTF" moments and I finally gave up.

description

The very first page confused me. To other readers Dre might sound super sexy and mysterious after latching onto Kathryn (they haven't even met yet) but to me that's just obsessive stalking. And for some unknown reason, he's been "womanless" for over a year now. No explanation yet, which adds onto the confusion pile. If he's been going so well with celibacy, what makes Kathryn so appealing to him??? He even admits his infatuation with her on page 11. The first 25 pages was literally just him, watching, following Kathryn as she goes through her daily activities and finding a way to insert his pathetic self somewhere so he could "meet" her. Ugh.

description

I thought Kathryn would be the redeeming factor. Obviously not, but before I made my judgment against her, I really did try to connect with her character. She is a strong, proud, and stubborn woman, which can be fine qualities. The problem I had with her was her two-faced personality: she kept fighting back Dre's advances, matching her wit to his charm, acting all sassy to a point of wanting to impress Dre. One of the tricks she has up her sleeve: she already knows him! She knows about his plans to seduce her, she knows all about Dre, she knows just about everything about everyone. This continuous game of cat and mouse just got so tiring! On one page, she'd say: "I'm not falling for those panty-dropping tricks" and then she'll think next: "Oh, he's soooo hot, but not just any kind of hot, it's a mix between geek/nerd hot and body builder hot." O_O Um what?

One sentence to summarize Kathryn: You're trying too hard girlie!

description

Oh and FYI the next couple of pages after that are just lines after lines, paragraphs after paragraphs about how "gorgeous" Dre's eyes are and how you can get lost in them. There's a page for his muscles and smiles too.

If I'm interpreting things wrong, my mistake, but anyone who reads this can confirm the examples I pulled from the book. I was just so frustrated with both characters (trying to act all funny and witty but they're really not), and the plot development was nonexistent and I stopped. Did I also mention the characters say 'Gorg' for gorgeous? It sounds all wrong in the context of the book. Ugh.

Truly wish the author well in her future works, but this was just NOT for me

After reading the synopsis, I decided to take a chance on this New to Me author and I'm so glad I did. The first thing that took me by surprise was how much humor Angelisa Stone wove into this story. The banter between Dre and Kathryn is some of the best I have read and it's not an easy task to make the hero as funny as the heroine. She was also able to create these characters multi-dimensional. Dre was confident without being arrogant and his secrets were far from predictable, Kathryn had some vulnerabilities but was beautiful, self-assured, funny and had a big heart. But this is not just a light sexy comedy, Can't Go Home touches on social issues, the pain of rejection and what people will do to save their reputation in the superficial world we have all have become accustomed to. The sex scenes are smoking hot and I loved the secondary characters who all have a special place in the story.
There are scenes that not only made me smile but I actually ugly-laughed and parts that pulled at every one of my heartstrings. I will be looking forward to more from this author and I highly recommend Can't Go Home and the next in the series Can't Go Without.

I had the honor to read Can't Go Home as a beta reader. Angelisa Stone has the ability to write a heartfelt story with characters I grew to love from the first chapter and add a little kink to spice the story up. Cocky, self assured Dre has you guessing and questions him from the beginning and snarky Kathryn knows just how to put him in his place.

I finished this book in a little over a day and could not put it down. It's a must read.

Right off let me say that I fell completely in love with this book. It is officially on my favorites list. It was such a witty and funny book. Definitely a classic.

You are going to LOVE and I mean love Dre. The guy is just wonderful. He is a gorgeous man. Not to mention one of the kindest people ever. He is very helpful to everyone around him. He helps everyone in town and doesn’t ask them to pay him or anything. His heart is absolutely huge and you just want to hug him. His bluntness and truthfulness will make you roll your eyes at times, but that makes him that more appealing.

 photo 2_zps935a05f8.jpg

Kathryn is such an awesome character. You can’t help but love her. She’s smart, funny and a very kind hearted woman. She will have you cracking up through the whole book with her remarks. She is one of those people who says what is on their minds and always truthful. I loved that about her.

 photo rachel-bilson-wallpapers_23476_1920x1200_zpsfa0b039d.jpg

I loved how Dre was so nervous about even approaching Kathryn. It showed his human side. Of course once they do go out together you’re really happy and hope that things work for both of them. They deserve to be happy and be together. Their first official date was absolutely perfect. I loved it. It was practical and just plain sweet. Especially their carousel ride together. Dre is spontaneous and that just speaks to me :)

 photo chicago-carousel-ride-christopher-karczewski_zpsa5d60c65.jpg

This was one of those books I never wanted to put down. It was just perfect. There was NEVER a dull moment. You were always waiting to see what was next. There were so many secrets that just kept coming at you and when you thought you had it all figured out you were soo very wrong. I had never been thrown into so many loops in a book before, but it made it that much more fun to read.

Just make sure you are ready for all of the emotions you will feel. I promise you will be so happy and laughing throughout a lot of the book. It was that amazing. But you will also find parts where you’ll be sad and even cry. It’s heartbreaking what happens to Dre’s sister Piper.

 photo Sad_love_emo1_zps5b76f3c4.jpg

The ending was just perfect. I couldn’t have asked for a better ending. I also enjoyed and loved that at the end it switched and you were reading Piper’s POV. I was literally beaming from everything that Piper let us in on when it came to her, Dre, and Kathryn. I enjoyed getting to know Piper better through everything she said as well.

So make sure you check this book out and give it a try. I promise you want regret it because it’s one of the most amazing books I’ve ever read. Deserved way more than 5 stars :)

The author is a wonderful and amazing woman as well. She was sweet and helpful throughout my review and while I was reading her book. I asked her if she had a muse and her reply was one of the most touching I’ve ever heard before. She said, “Not really! Writing and reading are my escapes from my chaotic life. The pandemonium that surrounds me really is my muse.”

I am so happy that Angelisa Stone contacted Nicely Phrased to read her debut book, Can't Go Home.
Happy because it was freaking awesome!

You know how when you start reading a story, there's that one line or couple of lines or maybe a paragraph, that makes you want to continue? That moment when you know that the story is going to be good or even better that you know it's going to be well written? Well this is the what hooked me and it happened right at the beginning!

Normally, a girl like her wouldn't have caught my eye, but I was dying in the heat and too bored and tired to look away. Nice huh? - Dre

I grinned. I just knew that I had my hands on a great book, well my kindle but whatever.

So let's see...Our story is about a guy named Dre Donley and a woman, whom he's set his eyes on, Kathryn Howell. Right from the start we know that Dre is a bad boy. Not in the normal sense either. He's not a philanderer. He's not tattooed and pierced. He's not a rocker. He doesn't drink or smoke. Actually, he's a really nice guy. But he has secrets. Secrets he has no plans to share with Kathryn. In fact he plans to lie to her. He's very up front and honest about his plans. At least with us he is. Kathryn has no clue.

See Dre plans on just sticking around long enough to have sex with Kathryn. Then he totally plans on bailing. He'll do pretty much whatever to get her out of his system. Lying seems like a good plan.

Typically, I like my women tall, lean, blonde, and a little on the "easy" side. Who doesn't really? I sound like an ass, don't I? - Dre

He definitely wasn't expecting sarcastic, out spoken, funny, honest, adorable, sexy Kathryn.

She throws him for a loop. He doesn't want to just have sex and bail anymore. Only that means he has to continue to lie.

Kathryn was such a breath of fresh air. She's pretty but not beautiful. She admits that her body needs work. She is strong and independent. She's a realist and she's hysterical. She also knows something is up with Dre. She knows that guys like Dre don't fall in her lap every day so she's content with going along with whatever he has in store. She's going to protect her heart. Yea right!

...I'm perplexed as to why he was coming on so strong...to me. It just does not add up. I even used the calculator on my phone to do the figuring. Or I secretly snapped two pictures of him when he wasn't looking to send to my mom. Tomato. Tomahto. - Kathryn

I ate up every minute of this book. I laughed out loud so many times. There are laugh out loud moments, quirky moments, fun moments.

SEXY moments...HAWT moments...

Dre's eyes are his golden ticket, but even his hair is like the backstage pass that goes with the VIP ticket. It's that light brown, dark blond "come jump me hair." - Kathryn

I have to admit though--I got to a point where the banter between the two felt a little forced. But I stopped reading for a bit and I thought about it. I realized that my husband and I banter all the time. We even have a some married friends who banter like this constantly. After that it didn't bother me at all. See there are some couples that are playful and flirty all the time, day in and day out. It actually keeps the relationship fresh and fun.

There are some great side characters too like, Sydney (Kathryn's bff) and Rory (Dre's best friend cause guys don't have bff's). I thought Kathryn was funny but Syndey LOL that girl is something else. That girl is too much, I totally expected her to jump out of my kindle to tell me what's what!

I'm sure you can imagine where this story leads. Eventually Dre's secrets start to come out. Their relationship is challenged. The ending may or may not have caused a tear or two. I will neither confirm nor deny.

Remember Angelisa Stone, she is definitely an author to watch!

I'm very much looking forward to book 2 in this series!

***I received an ARC of this story via Fiona's Book Reviews in return for my honest opinion***

When I saw the synopsis for this I was half expecting yet another 'young woman meets hot but damaged man with a hidden past and they fall in love' type story, but from the beginning the fresh and original writing style really set this one apart from the hundreds of other NA stories that recycle this sort of storyline to death.

Ade spots Kathryn out in the street one day. He likes the way she looks (doh!) but what really sets his pulse racing is her selflessness. She puts money in other people's parking meters and bawls her boss out about his cheating so from then on, he's smitten; So smitten in fact he begins to stalk her. Now as we all know, every self-respecting alpha male hero stalks his chosen woman nowadays, 'tis the first rule of fiction, so stalking isn't particularly new or different. But I was chuckling away as I read:

"Kathryn goes to lunch at approximately 1.10pm every day, except for Friday, when she skips lunch and leaves work at 4.30pm instead of 5.30pm. I've spent the good portion of the last month studying my new favorite subject: The Social Behaviors of Kathryn Denise Howell. I'm just eager to add "anatomy" to the lesson plan."

His plan - for he has one - is to exploit his cute boyish grin and raw animal magnetism to charm his way into Kathryn's panties, initially employing the old 'car won't start' trick.

So far, so ordinary.

But then Kathryn's reaction is so unexpectedly snarky and sassy, it leaves him stuttering and speechless :

"Oh wow, hot stranger, should I take my panties off now or would you like to do it for me?" she asks, rolling her eyes, and grabbing her phone back as she gets out of her car. "I have a freaking dead battery. I need jumper cables and a jump - not that kind - and I'll be good to go."

I absolutely loved Kathryn. She has no filter whatsoever, she refuses to play games, she just comes out and says whatever's on her mind. She is warm, funny and friendly and real; this girl even uses a weight watchers app. It's so nice to read a book where the hero is so true to life with her hang ups, not because of something terrible that happened in her past, but just because it's something women typically do.

The story is told from alternating points of view and this works really well in this book as their thoughts are candid and witty. The banter in this is laugh out loud funny and highly original and there's plenty going on with Kathryn's nerdy ex - gloriously dubbed Theo-dorable - and their buddies yummy Rory and porn star BFF Sydney that kept me interested and entertained.

Ade is hiding something, but we get precious few clues as to what he's hiding. Kathryn picks up on his secrecy, she's not daft but she decides not to push him, but to give him time to come out with it and enjoy it for now. For once, I had no clue what that big reveal was going to be. Call me Sherlock, but I normally pick up on the clues and have a bit of an idea what's coming, but in this one, nothing. I love being surprised.

Once everything is revealed, there is no over-blown drama or general silliness. Both stay true to their characters, putting honesty and integrity ahead of everything else. There wasn't an epilogue to this, but instead the last chapter was narrated by a character that had come into the story relatively late and was a bit of an unknown quantity. The content of that epilogue was everything I would hope for, but personally I'd have preferred for it to have been narrated by either Kathryn or Ade just to get to hear their inner snarkiness.

This story is refreshingly different, sweet and sexy. I'd recommend it.

Dre Donley the handyman of the Charleston, South Carolina he fixes a little bit of this and a little bit of that. And when I say 'handyman' I'm talking about H-O-T kind of guy who fixes things or as Kathryn describe him he's God-like, perfect, sculpted.
 photo Collage_zps706561a0.jpg

Then there's Kathryn Howell a literary agent with such honesty that amazes people around her. Like she's good but try to step and crush her she will fight you back with all her might. Kathryn's the kind of girl who'll slave her own dragon. :) I love her humor, her honesty, the no-filter thing is just the best
 photo 1301-emily-interview01_zpsefdea8ec.jpg

so basically the story is Dre is trying to put all his past behind and start anew but when he met Kathryn that's so full of purity and honesty and filled with positivity he wanted to come clean tell her the truth about what he had run-away from. What kind of life he had.

 photo Collage1_zps3d8f72e6.jpg

So find out if there love for one another is enough to fix things especially if Kathryn will know about the truth about Dre Donley/Adrian O'Donells. What would be her reaction when she'll see the O'Donells and would she be there by Dre's side? or will she choose the safe path?

Well just like the quote above said "Life is like a carousel. Sometimes it's up. Sometimes it's down" You just got to enjoy the ride without getting dizzy :)

Must read!

"You can go anywhere as long as you have happiness and love"

(Thank to you Angelisa for providing an ARC of Can't go home!)

Let me start off by saying that I was a bit hesitant about starting this book. I've been having trouble with many of the contemporary books lately and was on the fence about this one. But I saw the cover and I just had to trust that I wouldn't be let down. Great news! I wasn't! This was a wonderful book to read! And I didn't know this was a debut novel so mad props to Ms. Stone for her wonderful debut! :D

The story sets off in Dre's POV and throughout switches between he and Kathryn. Dre is quite frankly the Charleston's "Angel". He spends his time helping out the locals with minor jobs and volunteering in the homeless shelters. But he is also known as the man who has no attachments to any women. He lives his life day by day and refuses to get attached to anyone. Dre lives with a big secret and isn't willing to share it with anyone, until he meets Kathryn. When he falls in love with the beautiful firecracker, he struggles with his feelings for her and knows his lies will end something that didn't even begin.

While Kathryn doesn't play games and is a no nonsense women she can't help but feel the growing desire she has for Dre. When she finally gives into it she realizes that it isn't just desire that she has for the town's "angel". Sadly, with her growing feelings Kathryn also realizes that Dre refuses to open up. Against her better judgement, she continues to push back when he retreats because she believes he is worth the wait and patience. But eventually she gets tired of fighting for something that isn't going anywhere.

After many misunderstandings and insecurities the two finally get everything out in the open. But their HEA doesn't come easily when Dre's past comes barging back. They face a whole new dilemma but as a team they end up making it through the demons on Dre's past.

Can't Go Home is a thrilling ride you won't want to miss! Dre and Kathryn's story is weaved with so many twist and turns that you will literally feel like you are on a merry-go-round.

I cannot wait to read more from this author and look forward to possible books for the other wonderful characters in this book.

Don't miss out on this wonderful debut by Angelisa Stone!!

HAPPY READING!

I've been an avid reader since second grade when I discovered Peggy Parrish's mystery books. Over the years, especially into my adulthood, my reading choices and even genres have varied. However, there are some things that have never changed. A book must have certain aspects in it that make me love it and for me to consider it a great book.

This is my CURRENT criteria (again it may change in the future): love story that may or may not end happily, thought-provoking circumstances, moments of laughter and fun, some steamy sex scenes, believable banter and dialogue, something to question or figure out, and tear-jerking moments (either happy or sad).

As for Can't Go Home, let's review, considering this is a REVIEW....

Love story: Hell yeah, this is a love story. Dre and Kathryn are incredible. Is it a HEA? I'm not going to tell you that. What do I look like? Spoiler Sue?

Thought-provoking: I think there are some thought-provoking elements. It's not going to make you question your entire life, your existence on the planet, but it'll raise a few thoughts.

Laughter: In the bag. I think I've got humor and wit nailed.

Steamy Sex: Hell to the Oh-Yeah! There are four to be exact. I know this, because my friend hates sex in books. I made a copy of the book just for her, deleting all the steamy scenes. (Can you imagine not liking a little "between-the-sheets" fun in your reading?)

Believable banter: Ummm, I think so. It works for me. You'll have to let me know. I like dialogue, so I really worked hard for you to like it.

Something to figure out: Oh buddy, there's a twist--maybe a few of them. Have fun with that!

Tear-jerking moments: I'm not sure if I nailed that one. I would say a little over half of the readers may get a little teary-eyed, but I cannot guarantee a full-out shoulder-shaking ugly cry.

It doesn't have: paranormal activity, a mystery, a killer, or a goat. Other than that, I think you may enjoy it. I hope you'll enjoy it. Let me know what y'all think.

So, that's it. That's my review! I'm giving it five stars :-) Well, I kind of have to--I did write it. It is a MUST-READ. Obviously, otherwise, I wrote a book for my friend and me. Have fun reading.

I liked the first part a lot. The second part was boring and predictable.

The secret was not an OMG moment for me.

Both characters were likable. I would like a bit more drama in part two. Maybe it would have made it less boring.

The heroine's BFF, Sydney, was a porn star. Not sure why she had to be doing that for a living.

Classic story, great twist! Looking forward to the full review with my tour date 10/4.

**FULL REVIEW**

“I can’t help the smile that is betraying me and splaying itself ridiculously across my face. She’s right; she doesn’t hold anything back. God, I don’t want to hurt her. But I have no idea how I can possible walk away like I should. I should finish this date, take her home, and forget I ever met her. Utterly impossible. I could never forget the honesty of her words, the sincerity of her voice, the beauty of her presence…all things I’m not used to. I’m definitely not used to spending so much time trying to get a girl interested in me. But the truth is Kathryn Howell is too wonderful to be crushed by the weight of my lies and deceit.”

Dre Donley has a secret; a shady past that he wants nothing to do with and has taken every measure to erase. Coasting through his day-to-day life, wondering the streets of Charleston, helping this person and that person. Dre has become a new man, a man he has always wanted to be…but the past always has a way of catching up to you and Dre has no idea that the woman of his dreams is the one who will not only make him face it, but help him through it.

“Dre obviously isn’t an open book; he private and reserved about intimate and personal topics. It’s strange not knowing anything about the man that I plan to sleep with tonight. Yes, tonight. I can’t wait one more day; he’s got me all tingly and ready. Heck, when I was talking to Sydney today, she said that even she felt sexually frustrated and jumpy, all because of me—that’s a lot coming from a porn star. My sexual tension is becoming contagious.”

Knowing a girl and knowing the woman she becomes are two different things. Kathryn Howell is no longer the timid girl she once was. Strong and independent with a heart of gold, Kathryn knows her worth. So what if her college boyfriend, the one who she thought she’d marry, created a beautiful fantasy just to break her heart…and plans to propose to someone else? So what that this creepy, hot guy is pretty much stalking her. Yeah, he is absolutely gorgeous and everyone seems to know him, and he is obviously interested in her—except he is somewhat of an enigma, a mystery and has a reputation of being a “ladies man”. No.Thank.You…or maybe…Yes.Please. There is something about Dre that just warms Kathryn in her very core, something more, maybe even everything.

“’Dre, listen, too many people make mistake after mistake, never learning anything. They refuse to recognize that their flaws and pains are self-inflicted and avoidable. You just have to figure it all out.’ ‘I was counting on figuring it all out,’ Dre admits, kissing my hand and holding it against his cheek. ‘I just didn’t count on meeting someone who makes it all worthwhile.’ I take the compliment, feel the compliment, and let it wash over me, feeling my body warm to the words. He’s trying; he’s feeling—something for me.”

What a great story. I thoroughly enjoyed every page. Nothing about Stone’s story felt rushed or forced, it just flowed. There was enough intrigue to keep me in the moments, enough romance to keep me satisfied, enough drama to keep me fully engaged until the very last page…and Piper! Great little twist there, probably my favorite part. This book was a perfect mix of light and heavy without pushing too much in either direction, it was feel-good and beautiful; well written, and just an all-around “easy” read. I look forward to reading more from Angelisa Stone, hopefully soon! ~V~

***ARC GIVEN FOR HONEST REVIEW***

That’s right bitches 5 count them 5 fucking GOLD STARS for this book. If you follow our blog you realize we don’t give out 5 stars very often. To get a 5 star around us the book must literally be the biggest thing since…well sliced bread. Holy shit this book had it all. I was not originally the one who supposed to review the book but my girl got sick and I took it on at about 3am this morning. That’s right 3am. Nothing like doing it last moment right? Yeah we are well oiled machine up in this bitch…haha. Ok on to the review….

Meet Dre. I was a little weirded out at first he was stalking this chick, Kathryn, and she didn’t know it. It took me a few pages to realize he was not stalking her in the traditional sense of the word but more he just overheard a phone conversation that made it impossible for him to get her out of his head. Meet Kathryn, the object of his desire. She is absolutely is “balls to the walls” with him from the beginning when he tries to be all charming and suave. She has no filter, which of course I LOVE because well I have no filter! Funny thing, Kathryn may have been doing some stalking of her own but she doesn’t share that little tid bit with him. So we start a little cat and mouse game. Things are wonderful but Dre has a secret. A secret that you will kind of guess but it’s so much more then you think. Reason # 1 she gets 5 stars, because when his first secret comes out it made me cry. Not because it was sad but because it was absofuckinglutely the most BEAUTIFUL…beautiful sentiment I have ever read in a book. Reason #2, Dre and Kathryn are funny as hell together. The bantering that goes on between them will have you laughing until you almost pee your pants. Reason #3, the sex scenes were not only hot but funny as hell. I mean it was like how real life sex. Where in the middle of sex your mind wanders off to other things because let’s face it most sex is not earth shatter, mind blowing ,out of this orbit sex in the books we read. I mean I am not saying it does not happen in real life on occasion because I know it does but just not. each. and. every time….lmao. It’s the its hot, feels good as hell, I got off while laughing and bantering with my partner kind of sex. ‘

Don’t just put this book on your TBR list…ONE CLICK THIS BITCH and start reading ASAP you will not be disappointed. There is everything in this story to make it one of the best stories I have read in a while. Your still here…what are you waiting for go buy the book!!!!!!!! :)

P.S. I left the cover off my rating. Why you ask? Well….because it kinda sucks…lol. I know how hard it is to find a good cover to represent your book. I do. I really do. I am in no way hating on the author. I just want the cover to do the book justice. Make people want to buy the book. It is a great book. It should be read but readers are visual. That is the truth. I can tell you…we did the cover reveal for this book. I did not want to read it just cause of the cover. We signed up any way and look at the wonderful book we found. Just my opinion :) You do not have to take it.

Reviewed at Lives and Breathes Book Blog

Dre Donely, the hot, mysterious handyman of Charleston is captivated with Kathryn Howell, literary agent, and I am infatuated with their story. While it’s a similar story style as many others (good girl meets hot boy with secrets and a little insta-love) it was the spunky heroine, my curiosity to learn Dre’s secrets, and the bouts of wisdom sprinkled throughout the story that had me hooked.

“That’s what’s wrong with the damn world today. Nobody wants to take a stand against the bullies.” –Kathryn

Kathryn Howell is my new favorite heroine. I love her. She’s one of a kind, for sure. Kathryn is honest to a fault, she doesn’t play games, she’s insanely witty, and I want to be her new bff. Throughout most of the story Kathryn kept me giggling with her one-liners and quips. Another thing I loved about Kathryn, she’s an honest to goodness, good person. SHE is the main reason I kept reading this one.

“Kathryn Howell doesn’t try to be the most beautiful, perfect women I’ve ever known; she just is.” – Dre

“I could never forget the honesty of her words, the sincerity of her voice, the beauty of her presence…all things I’m not used to.” – Dre

Dre was just an added bonus; and a very hot bonus at that. He’s doesn’t want a women but yet he can’t stay away from Kathryn. He’s is a mystery to begin with. And I was very intrigued, the more he didn’t want Kathryn to know about his past, the more I wanted to know. He’s a good man, trying to become a better person than the skeletons of his past.

“One minute you’re kind and sensitive, the next minute, you’re chauvinistic, vague, and arrogant.” – Kathryn

As Dre’s secrets started unraveling, I can’t say they weren’t jaw dropping or anything too crazy, but instead they were more realistic and well played out.

“You can’t be someone you want to be if you don’t admit who you once were” – Kathryn

Kathryn and Dre together is a sweet, funny, and HOT combination. Their banter kept me rolling. And I loved their friends, Rory and Sydney just as much. The storyline moved at a perfect pace and the writing was smooth. I loved the little surprise at the end, I feel like it wrapped up the story nicely. Can’t Go Home is a beautiful love story and just a feel good book!

“I need a little ‘Kathryn-courage’; kissing you gives me strength.” – Dre

“As much as I don’t want to believe it, I like working this hard. People should have to work this hard for what they want, what they get out of life. People shouldn’t be handed every little thing they want on a silver platter, like it’s hors d’oeuvers at a fancy country club dinner party. If you want something, then you have to go get it, not just wait until someone gives it to you. That’s not the way life works.” – Dre

Ok people. I loved this book. Like HARD. This book is a great example of why you should take chances on unknown authors and books you have never heard of. I was gifted this book by another author; I had never heard of it or the author. I planned on reading it but with so many books on my to be read list I put it to the side for the moment. About 2 weeks later I thought of the book and decided to check it out. I am SO GLAD I did!!

One thing I love about this book is the chapters alternating between the 2 main characters’ points of views. I loved being inside their heads. Dre had me hooked from page one. He completely threw me for a loop. I thought I had him figured out. Boy was I wrong. In the beginning he comes across as a manipulative liar. I wondered what he was hiding. I thought he was bad news, up to no good. He sees Kathryn and decides he has to have her. And how does he go about this? By stalking her; watching her from afar. I was like hhmmm, ok. Dre is very sexy and very attractive. You wonder what tricks he has up his sleeve. I was completely wrong about him. He is sweet, caring, lovable and my new book boyfriend. Kathryn is smart, witty, and very altruistic. She is very down to earth- her counting of Weight Watchers points had me laughing. She tries to resist Dre at first, but has a hard time.

Circumstances occur and Dre is forced to face his past. Should he open up to Kathryn and risk losing her or let her go? He feels he has no choice- he can’t lose her and live without her. He has to tell her the truth- it’s a chance he decides he has to take. Kathryn learns early on that Dre is lying and hiding things. She doesn’t appreciate that but she falls in love with him and decides she will take a chance on him. When push comes to shove and he needs her, she is there for him.

There are so many things to love about this book. The writing is fluid, funny, grabs you and sucks you in. The plot completely threw me for a loop. I thought it was going one way and totally went in another direction. The banter between Dre and Kathryn is awesome. They had me cracking up. The secondary characters are great too. I loved that there is meaning to this story. It is more than just a fluffy love story. You come away with- Stand up for what you believe in; do the right thing; nice guys don’t always finish last. And don’t worry- there are steamy sex scenes too. Like really steamy. The book ends with Piper’s point of view (Dre’s sister); it’s a nice way to wrap up the book.

A definite must read and a great debut from Angelisa. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Kathryn is a strong young woman making her way in life. She has always been attracted to the intellectual or nerdy type and is honest almost to a fault. As she says, she has no filter; if she thinks it she says it. She dated the same man throughout college assuming they would marry, but he had other plans.

Dre is a drifter of sorts, trying to find the real him. He has sworn off women for the last year in order to keep his head clear, that is until the day he sees Kathryn Howel. Kathryn is not his usual type but there is just something about her. He’s drawn to her and can’t get her out of his mind. He knows he should stay away because she’ll never understand the secrets he’s forced to keep.

A friend of mine told me she had read this book and just knew I would love it. It is wonderful that someone knows me so well. I LOVED this story and could not put the book down. The chemistry between the two main characters sizzles and the sex, oh my, the sex is intense and hot making me want to grab my husband and reenact some of the scenes. The best friends of the main characters, Rory and Sydney are hysterical. They bring humor and balance to these two people. Angelisa is a wonderful story teller, pulling the reader into the story and holding them there. She writes using my favorite method, telling the story from both characters POV. I think it adds so much to a story when you can see it from both sides. I have to admit that I found myself wanting to beat Dre many times in the beginning when reading his POV, but still I couldn’t put the book down, I had to know his secrets! I cannot wait to read more about this couple or their friends. I give Can’t Go Home 5 stars and 4 hands down your pants!

***Please note that I did format this book for the author and this review in no way reflects my formatting business or services. Angelisa is a dear friend and this review is strictly personal for me as a reader***

First of all, this story was near and dear to me being that it's set in Charleston, South Carolina, one of my favorite places in the world. The setting was described in vivid and accurate detail and I could picture being on the streets of the Holy City right along with the characters. This was a sexy, witty, and well thought out plot with lots of surprises I wasn't at all expecting. Yay for a curvy woman to be the conquest of a hot and mysterious man. That was number two on my selling list. You will fall in love with Katherine's witty and snappy side and will swoon over Dre throughout the entire story.

I loved the non traditional structure of the book, with no true chapters... just alternating points of view. I was rapidly turning pages and stayed up until 3:30 am because there was no way I could sleep without finding out what happened.

Yes there was some angst, yes there was humor, yes there was very well versed and crafty writing, and yes there was some serious "steam." This being Angelisa's first novel, she has proven that she's a master of spinning a fabulous tale that readers will love.

Check this one out if you are looking for a fresh and unexpected love story that lurks a bit out of the box. I can't wait to see what Angelisa is plotting for her next novel.

I received and ARC copy for an honest review.

5 stars!
Just like on the cover. Angelisa Stone takes you on a wonderful ride. A tale that spins your emotions around and around. Well done!
I could not put this book down. The more I read the more I wanted. Kathryn and Dre are the perfect main characters. Both are strong, spirited, and independent. I love Kathryn's strength and spunk. She tells it like it is and doesn't back down.
Dre is the perfect blend of confidence, cockiness and care. He also has an amazing alpha male side too!
When these two get together, look out- sparks fly! Their banter and chemistry is HOT!
I don't want to give too much away, because there is a pretty big secret in this one, but I will tell you that you root for these two to find peace and happiness with each other.
As a reader, the plot hooked me in and didn't let go. The character development was excellent and I felt like I could be their friend and hang out with them on a Friday night.
Well done Ms. Stone! I am so lucky to have the chance to read this book. Thanks for the ride!
Do yourself a favor - buy this book and enjoy your own ride!

Home is where the heart is, and Dre is at home with Pebbles. I really enjoyed this story. It was charming, funny, intriguing and just downright good. I was drawn in immediately as I wanted to know all about Dre, what he was willing to share and what he wasn't; and something told me that Kathryn was the one to get to the heart of all that was Dre, and of course I was right. I just loved Kathryn-her wit and quick thinking humor, her confidence, her loyalty and charm made her loveable. The mystery surrounding Dre kept me hooked to the story, and once revealed was not something I was expecting. The supporting characters were interesting, and I am hoping that we might get a story about Rory and Syd, as something tells me that it will be wonderful as well. I love a story that has the right amount of romance, intimacy and humor and this one was just right. I was so intrigued with the story, that I couldn't put it down until I had finished it. Looking forward to more from this author.

This is a really hard book for me to rate. I loved the first half with the relationship between laid back, cool, hunky Dre and feisty, tell it like it is but a little self esteem challenged Kathryn. We knew Dre was holding back some huge secret but he was so lovable we didn't care.

The middle of the book lost its way. With the big secret being revealed and parts of it not really making any sense, Dre became this kind of weird dude, not the sweet, sexy, hunk we've come to know.

But Dre redeemed himself (and his hunky self returned) at the end with Kathryn's help and the book became enjoyable again. But the middle really dragged the story down so 4 stars is really kind of generous. But, I think most people would enjoy it.

I won this book, I'd never heard of the author or this story and I love that these little gems are out there like diamonds in the rough, it was such a lucky find for me.
I've given 5 stars not because it's akin with the works of Shakespeare, it's because it was like a total breath of fresh air in a book world of same old, same old.
Kathryn is so switched on and self aware and she's funny, quirky and completely true to herself. Yes Dre is gorgeous but he is SO much more and the unveiling of his big "secret" cements that.
The plot is different to anything I've ever read and I guessed completely wrong what his secret was. It's laced with witty humour all of the way through, strong sub characters, it's just fabulous, wonderful, marvellous ~ HIGHLY recommend.

This book was fun, this book was a great story, and this book was hot, Hot, HOT!

Well drawn believable characters, with strengths and flaws, in a story-line different than I have seen, and yet utterly believable. You find yourself really caring for these people. On top of it all was some of the most erotic, hottest sex I have ever read. I'm talking about flushed face, sweating, heavy breathing, throw my Kindle onto the bedside table and leap upon my wife with no warning hot. (She likes when I read books like this, LOL) 3 of the very, very best sex scenes I have read in any book are in this story. I cannot wait for the next book form this author!
