He’s prepared to give his mate time to accept him, but enemies from his past come stalking, forcing his hand. Can Valarius figure out how to convince Brice—someone already intimate with the aggressiveness of shifters—that he can give him the love and stability Brice desperately craves?

There is something about this series that just won't let me go. I see a new one out and unless it's a D/s one I just have to read it.
It's an addiction, my growly-possessive-mate-mine-sex-a-lot-hurt-comfort-forever and ever-series fix.

I have to say the title to this one is cute, very punny, and the story is the same or very similar to the rest of the series, but that's ok, that's what I read them for.
Brice, twinky human that he is, is being attacked, Val, hunky lion shifter that he is, saves him and knows *insert growl* mate-mine.
Of course Brice has had bad experiences with shifters and is wary, so Val doesn't want to tell him, then bad guys show up ( in every book, different ones show up to cause trouble, they should know by now, if someone finds a mate, bad guys are waiting in the wings) and all is well.

This sounds soooo familiar but unable to pinpoint from where. (Guy walks into bathroom to see his mate having sex with someone else as a first meet… Lynn Hagen Christian’s coven or another Stone ridge book maybe)

Even with the mate bond, getting it on in any way after being attacked was rushing things way too fast for me. At the very least emotional scars should be getting in the way a bit to impede the relationship.

Once everyone knows everyone else’s secrets (human knows about shifters and Val is a shifter) we see that it’s not that Brice hates shifters just that he’s been unable to get past the first trauma of being introduced into the paranormal world enough to relax around them.

Things move pretty quickly from here, like most of the books in this series. The conflict resolution at the end turned out to be entertaining.

As with a few others I'm not sure WHY it's a wolves of stone ridge series book thou. The mate is a lion AND they are not from or settle in Stone Ridge, just come across each other there.

It’s been a little while since I read this series or the connected ones but I think this ended up being one of the better instalments.
As it is, I only really have a list of favourable things, since, well, the author’s weaknesses are well known by now and it’s becoming redundant to harp on them.

So I appreciate that fact that .
I like the complete and utter devotion on Valarius’ side, even if it’s nothing different or new.
I particularly do like the way this volume tied up some of the loose ends left by previous ones. Due to, again, a passage of time and change of location this story actually had a more complete feel to it than is often the case in this series.

So yeah. A pretty relaxing, safe read. Not too deep, but then that’s not what you sign up for with this.

It was so fun picking up the story of two previous secondary characters and seeing them come together in their own story. Brice Gaithers was the secondary character in 'Kyle's Valiant Hunt' a previous Wolves of Stone Ridge series book and Valerius was a minor character in 'Saving Perrin's Life' a Kontra's Menagerie book. And if that isn't good enough, the story also brings in several recurring characters and adds to Raven and Liam's story line from their book. I suppose based on all that I've said, it would be a good time to mention that this book isn't a stand alone. Haha!

Brice had a horrific intro to shifters so now wants nothing to do with them, but after a nightmare attack in a club bathroom and being saved by the big attractive Valerius he thinks his luck might be turning.

Valerius has gone a long time and experienced his own hardships not really even looking for a mate, but imagine his surprise to discover his mate where he least expects to find him. Now if he can just convince Brice and keep ahead of the dangers from his past, he might stand a chance at happily ever after with a mate of his own.

This was one of the best stories I have read in both series. It had the wonderful fun of who the mates were, but there was both a good strong internal and external plot thread besides that too. I love how the author goes back and either wraps up or pushes along each dangling plot thread (even ones that I forget about). There was just a hint at Val's character the one time he was introduced a while back, but I liked what I saw and how could I have forgotten about poor Brice. Instantly upon seeing him in the story I was glad that he was getting his own chance. The new characters particularly Samson were great additions. Samson was so cute the way he pined after his Helena.

Now I must patiently wait for the next installment. I love these books so that is hard.

SPOILER....

I have issues with this book. After almost being gang raped Val takes Bricew to a motel and proceeds to seduce him and wants to have sex with him?! Why wasn't he more concerned that his mate was almost brutally raped in a dirty bathroom? I think my first priority would be to help him over the trauma instead of getting some other guy's scent of him and rubbing off on him. I would be an emotional wreck not wanting to go home with some strange dude and fucked in a motel.

The rest of the story wasn't so bad, but the first 10 pages pissed me off.

Val and Brice. I liked Brice. I also liked how he just took to Val and let him take care of him. Oh and I LOVED Brice's distraction. Kade was right, quick thinking :)

I wanted more of the battle, but I really liked how Brice handled Samson.

Much like Stormy Glenn, Charlie Richards infuses her stories with just enough intrigue and endearing romance to make it possible for to me overlook bad writing. Not great, but a pleasant way to pass the time if you're in the mood for some sappy m/m shifter fun. Be warned that Richards sucks at dirty talk. The sex scenes can be a little awkward at times.

This is a great book, I loved reading Valarius and Brice's story. Valarius is a Loin shifter who'd been sent to represent them at a meeting held at the Stone Ridge Pack. He'd headed to a club for a drink and some company after the long meeting.
Brice was at the club and things were getting out of hand. Cornered in the bathroom with 3 men he'd hoped for someone to rescue him.
As soon as Valarius entered the bathroom he knew his mate was in there and in trouble. Brice knew of Shifters and did his best to try and avoid them when he could due to a bad experience in the past also being human too didn't help.
What happens when Brice finds out Valarius is a shifter and there's also danger headed for Valarius..
This is fantastic, thank goodness for the Fates stepping in, in time and right place. A beautifully written story. I love reading this series..

I once picked up a random book from the Stone Ridge universe, and I liked it. Now I’m going through the whole universe and completing the whole list on the author's website.

(trope spoilers below)

There is a lot of insta-love and soulmate/beloved stuff and I love it. In the background there is a continuous bigger plot and the series are all interconnected. Some books I like more than others, but in general it’s a great adventure, and I do not regret starting all those books at all.

If you'd like to read about more books I liked, check out my Goodreads profile. I also sometimes post reviews on Instagram and talk about bookish stuff on Threads.

Not all Shifters are Monsters

After being in horrible situations involving shifters, Brice has a very real fear of them. Even though his best friend Vee is mated to a Wolf shifter, who treats him like a prince, and Brice is a protected member of the Stone Ridge pack. Cognizant of his terrors they treat him accordingly. So when he is taken against his will while out clubbing - his savior, though just as big and intimidating as his captors, there's still something different & amazing about this man. Why does he feel Safe in his arms? All he wanted is a simple Hookup and it seems that it is all he's going to get, with this big gorgeous out of towner who rescues him. Why does that make him upset?

Valarius never expected to encounter his mate - Human mate under such unusual circumstances. Then just when he's ready to claim his sweet young man and reveal his shifter status he is warned not to do so because of Brice's aversion to shifters. Damn#t! But to win his mate, "Val" is willing to do whatever is necessary especially after receiving some sweet kisses, tender moments, and thunderous passion. Too bad not everyone is on the same page as he is.

What I really liked about this book is that there are so many old characters and new ones introduced or reintroduced. Since I've been jumping around the Stone Ridge series over the past several days. The storylines of these various characters intrigue me and I am looking forward to going back to some of the earlier books in the series to read how they found their mates. Or were rescued.

Initially I meant to go back to the first in the series 're-reading and going right through to the most recently released. But I am having more fun this way. I've already read several of the books in this series, as well as many of Charlie Richards three other paranormal books so I am familiar with quite a few of the characters. It would be more confusing for someone who isn't as familiar as I am. All I know is that I am having a good time enjoying these stories. Ms. Richards really has a great imagination!

I have her nonshifter books in my Kindle Cloud awaiting my wanting to read contemporary stories again. Until then thanks Charlie.

Oh bad editing. "The first man appeared to be divulging the clothes of the slender twink in the second man's arms." Huh?

I don't like Valariys at all. He let these guys continue to mistreat him and made lewd comments to play along but he didn't have to. They were pulling Brice's clothes off. He's an extra string shifter. He could have taken them out easily not let it go so far. Then he didn't apologize or explain.

The whole thing scared Brice and then Brice goes home with him anyway and all Valariys can think about is sex.

I really want to read a sweet book right now. That's why I chose a fated mates book. But this sucks.

They have sex before Brice even knows Val's name. And he had just almost been raped?

His lover has a long name starting am with V and calling him Vee is so logical that I almost did it in this review. But now we find that his best friend is named Vee. Why do authors do that?

Just because Bruce knows shifters doesn't mean he pick shifters out of a crowd.

Way too much sex. This is mostly (boring) sex.

One of the wolves is named Rayban. Seriously.

This is a different group, with a different alpha. Yet another spinoff?

At least during the plot parts there was good amount of stupid action.

Oh yes of course. Val loved him so quickly because Bruce woke him up with a blow job.

These characters were really generic although Val was a little more of an asshole than is usual and Brice slightly less twinky but not by a lot. They were still very run of the mill.

This series has been going downhill fast. There used to be a unifying plot about some evil scientist but it's barely mentioned in passing. ?? I expect better from this author.

I wasn't fair to this book. Right now I'm in my obsessive gotta read phase, which has resulted in sleep deprivation and I really felt it as I was reading this, but of course I just kept going, not able to stop even if I had no idea what I was reading after a while.

Still I did notice somethings that made me happy. One, this was a quick read but the characters did at least one character experianced some development. Two, V held Brice to his crap unlike Adalric did with Seth in A Bite of Fulfillment. Three, it's always nice when a character tries to be considerate and compromise for his mate rather then trying to force the situation. Four, there was a side couple, I love side couples.

Honestly this book was a blur, but that was more my fault than the authors, and I do remember liking what I was reading even though I just wanted to sleep.

This is definitely NOT a standalone book. I regard the books in this series more like chapters in a long novel.

UNLIKE A LOT OF REVIEWS, I didn't have a problem with Brice having comfort sex with his rescuer Val after the attempted gang rape in the bathroom.

It was good to see the character development in Brice and the loving patience provided by Val. I really liked their romantic relationship.

The fight scene at the end was great.

The lion shifters with their group pride lifestyle was a nice change.

3.5 stars even with the cheesy line at the end of the story.

Valarius finds his mate in Brice who is leary of shifters. The path taken to overcome Brice's issues mixed with the threat from Val's previous pride must be overcome before they can move on with their lives.

A lovely romp through relationship difficulties.

Ah. That was indeed a very bad joke. Not the novel but the title. Can't say I'm happy with the cover as well but I've seen worse. Now the story...It was okayish. I didn't exactly expect a master piece so I was able to keep myself entertained and enjoying the characters and their dramas. It still lacks something I can't name but it served its purpose. Also, I liked Val.

Human mates

Brice new about shifters and even lived with his best friend and his shifter mate. He was kidnapped by shifters, not fun, he tolerated them. Val a lion shifter had to convince Brice to give their mating a chance. Things really get interesting in Kansas. Liam and Ravens story continues. Samson and Helena's story starts.
