This was the first book/novella I've ever read by Joan Swan, but after this delicious morsel, I want more. So much more.

Zoe Brooks was one kick a$$ heroine. As a Border Patrol Agent she was out in the field taking down bad guys left and right. She was tough, efficient, focused and definitely had the respect and backup of her team. It took courage for her to admit that the field work was getting to her in ways that could put her life and that of her team on the line if she got reckless. During her “interview” with Rio Cordova, the director of ICE and her soon to be partner in an undercover operation, Taft Walker, we got a glimpse that there was definitely more to Zoe than her tough girl exterior. That first meeting was kind of hilarious. Zoe's no sex with co-workers policy was definitely warranted, but I liked that she wasn't closed off to men and sex because of her past bad experience.

Taft Walker was a wonderful hero. Funny, flirtatious, protective, charming, and HOT! He didn't try to hide the fact that he desperately wanted to bed Zoe. Seeing him realize that there was more to life than a loose lifestyle was the fun part of his world getting knocked off its axis.

First Temptation was wicked, from the characters to the sex scenes to the humor laced throughout the story. The opening scene captivated me from the first page; I could feel the heroine's adrenaline rush leap off the page. The chemistry between those two was hot enough to burn up my Kindle in the best possible way. The dialogue was full of witty banter, sexy innuendos and my absolute favorite, these characters didn't fear communicating with one another. I always felt that they knew exactly where they stood with one another, and any decisions they made in terms of mixing business with pleasure was always done with the consequences in mind. I loved the lack of unnecessary or forced drama during their quasi relationship. I also understood what attracted her to him and vice versa. The sex scenes were HOT, and one particular scene was unlike any I'd ever read before! It involved sex toys, but oh my, I want to know what pleasure device Taft was using!

I loved this novella for all the reasons above, even if I had to suspend disbelief that two agents were forced to work in a sex shop and act like lovers; it just made this story more titillating. The suspense portion wasn't the main focus of this story, but it served it's purpose in forcing the main characters together. I definitely recommend this. I will definitely go back and read book one, and will be continuing on with this series.

My Review:
What a fabulous book. This is the second series I've begun that features ICE agents and I'm sold...I want more books featuring these incredible guys/girls.

This book starts off with an incredible, adrenaline-infused scene and I loved the fact that it was a scene featuring Zoe to show just how tough this girl is on the job. Wow! She's incredible. But then immediately, she is thrown into a situation with Taft and her boss, Rio, where she has to prove just how feminine and alluring she can be which is a little more intimidating to her. But this girl does NOT back down....ever! Between the two scenes I was sold. Joan Swan created an amazing character with Zoe....the perfect balance between the two sides. Ultra tough and self-reliant, but with just enough self-doubt to make it where you have to love her for her vulnerability even when (especially when) she's trying to hide it.

Then there's Taft...the undercover agent who's not afraid to admit when he's wrong. Most alpha males in the opening scenes would get defensive or offensive, but he does neither. He backs down from Zoe with his hands in the air and admits he misjudged her. I loved that! Seriously, give this book one or two chapters and I promise you, you will not set it down again unless you have to. Joan Swan just set up the book perfectly so that it was entertaining and riveting. And that's before we even get to the fun part...the smexy part.

Did you catch that part above in the description that said these two agents are undercover as a couple running an adult toy shop? Yep, before they even got to the store, they had incredible chemistry, but once they were surrounded by erotic and sexual devices....OMG, this book SIZZLES!

Honestly, this book just has the best of all worlds. It's incredibly hot, has a fabulous suspense story line, you can't help but love the hero/heroine, and the story was fun and completely entertaining. I loved this book and cannot wait for more to come out in this series!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

The cover alone caught my attention. Sexy and eye catching. First Temptation starts off with great action with a kick butt heroine Zoe. Loved how it started and how her and Taft first meet. I was not big on the insta-love but like a lot of novella's that is what happens sometimes. It is a hot fan your self and enjoyable read. I did like Joan Swan writing voice and writing style but I was hoping to be more wowed with Zoe and Taft relationship. I do already have a few of her other novels that I will be trying.

As a big Joan Swan fan I'm a little mad at myself for putting off reading this series for so long. Joan Swan's writing is always great and both novellas from this series I have read haven been both sexy and fun. I loved that the heroine in this one was strong and capable but also was vulnerable. The chemistry between these two characters was great. I look forward to reading more in this series. For readers that haven't checked this author out yet, she is definitely one to put at the top of the TBR list. Joan Swan always delivers a sexy solid read!

NOTE: this book was part of the Wicked First anthology

What do you get when you mix a tough border control agent and a Counterterrorist agent who have to go undercover in a sex shop to catch someone who’s helping terrorist? An extremely funny and very hot and steamy read. Oh there is plenty of action too to get your heart pumping along with the all the sex toys  And as a added bonus Rio from Intimate Enemies is Taft’s boss and running the op. I loved all the stories in this book and didn’t have a favorite until I read the last one – First Temptations. Looking forward to more in the Covert Affairs series.

3.5 stars. I enjoyed this quick read, but this is one that could've really used a longer treatment. I understand this is a novella, but this story has great bones and I really wanted to know more about the characters. Moreover, Taft really starts off as a douche and could use more time to redeem himself. He eventually does, but barely. I really liked the first book in this series, Intimate Enemies and am thrilled to get an "appearance" by Rio. I look forward to the next book in the series, but I wish this one didn't leave me wanting more.

This book was fun but far too short to justify the deep love the h/h feel for each other. They've known each other less than a week--and been working a very dangerous undercover--and yet they become soul mates instantly. I also found the heroine to be portrayed primarily through her looks. She's supposed to be a top notch Border Patrol Agent and yet she's the hottest pole dancer ever, every man wants her, yadda yadda yadda.

Zoe Brooks is a hard as nails Border Patrol Agent looking for a change of pace within law enforcement after some rough take downs and the death of her partner. When an opportunity to go undercover with ICE to bring down a new cross-border transportation mode for the powerful Mexican cartel drops in her lap she is ready to jump right in. The first speed bump is that Counterterrorist agent Taft Walker will be her partner and they have to go under cover as new sex shop owners.

I listened to the audible version so I can not attest to editing, but the narrator did a good job. I was drawn in immediately with the hardcore badass that Zoe is. Taft's cocky, yet serious and smart attitude had my attention. The sex shop details were perfect and I am definitely looking up a couple things to see if they actually exist! Taft and Zoe's chemistry is explosive and definitely caused some bellow the belt stirrings.

I will definitely be looking up more of this series!

The second book in this series keeps some of the same threats that the first one mentioned but if you haven't read it, you will still be able to follow the story. We get a glimpse of the first book main characters which is nice but they are not the stars of this book. Tate and Zoe are hot together and the difficulties they face as a couple falling in love while undercover is well written.

This was so good for how short it is!!

I was so pleasantly surprised with this story. I Liked the 1st book, but I loved this one. The characters were great and the story wasn't unbelievable or over dramatized like a lot of short stories are. I couldn't put it down!

My rating: 4.5 of 5⭐

Zoe Brooks is a tough and determined Border Patrol Agent, but since the death of her partner Cody, she has been looking to move into a different direction of law enforcement. When an opportunity to go undercover with ICE to bring down a new cross-border transportation mode for the powerful Mexican cartel, she is ready and eager to jump in!
Counterterrorist agent Taft Walker is not happy being partnered with the rookie undercover agent, who looks like she is better suited to working in the dark, instead of playing the part of his hot lover. Mind you, playing part owner of an adult toy store is new to him to, but he is accustomed to doing what it takes to get the job done, especially if it means shutting down the newest tunnel into the US.
Zoe Brooks is up for the challenge and in quick order manages to show her new boss and her new partner that she is quite capable of becoming a sultry, sexy seductress, in a matter of seconds. The only thing she will need to work on is her knowledge of sex toys, in that area she is sadly under educated. Now that the initial ice is broken, the newly forged partnership quickly sparks up into a dangerously passionate zone. Staying professional while posing as lovers will not be an easy task.
Before long Taft starts to see a different, softer and passionate Zoe through the layers of hardened veneer and his normal callous attitude turns into caring. And Zoe is feels exposed by Taft's instinctive grasp of her most intimate needs and desires. Keeping their distance in order to stay focused on the case may prove to be too much of a challenge.

*****
Yowza!!! Kick-ass independent heroine, meet yummy alpha hero!!!
Now here is a series I wanna put my teeth into! A novella, an 'in-between' in the series, with characters from the first book reappearing, but an independent story.
The story starts off with a bang, a great first chapter with some serious action and an introduction to Zoe that doesn't leave any doubt as to her capabilities. Second chapter comes with an introduction of humour, sarcastic dialogue with an undertone of attraction that sets up the chemistry between Taft and Zoe.....and the hook is set for the book. Very well done!!!
Each of the characters provides a bit of insight into their history and it always helps to create a better context. Not too much, but just enough 'fleshing out' for this type of story. I loved the directness between the two, when it came to desires, maybe not emotions immediately, but at least desires where met head on. Very sexy. Made you fall, right along with them.
I was a Joan Swan virgin, but as with all things delicious, after a little taste of this novella, I'm craving a full length novel next!!!
A definite recommended read!!!

I admit, I was a little nervous to read First Temptation. Not because author Joan Swan doesn't deliver, she always does. No, I was nervous because of, get this, the blurb.

Why? Because it is a contemporary romance that used the dreaded "V" word. The heroine, Zoe Brooks, is a sex toy virgin and I was afraid that meant a boring, saintly, "innocent" little fool. I was nervous because I thought "What if Joan is crossing over into what's 'popular' in romance right now? I'm not a fan of the latest trends!" Before I knew it my mind was racing and I was imagining all sorts of disasters for myself as a reader. I had to calm myself down long enough to start reading First Temptation.

I'm breathing a sigh of relief right now. I should know better than to doubt Joan's ability to tell a story.

First Temptation definitely shows a steamier side to Joan Swan. Yay! There's more sexual tension between her main characters than in her other books and I loved it! Please keep up the level of sexy Joan, it really works!!! Taft and Zoe really burn up the pages, even when they're just talking to one another! Their banter and chemistry is entertaining and helps balance out the more serious issue of the drug cartel.

I am Hispanic, so I did look at First Temptation a little differently than other romance novellas because it does take place along the US/Mexico border (I live in a border city). So naturally I wanted to make sure that people and situations were as realistic as possible, or at least sounded realistic, since I have absolutely no knowledge of what happens within the border patrol or any of the involved agencies.

For a novella, it seemed longer and didn't shy away from details which enriched the overall reading experience. The characters Taft and Zoe were fun, they didn't take themselves too seriously and while Zoe had relationship hangups, she didn't drone on and on about them, she focused on getting her job done right and as safely as possible.

Taft was an interesting mixture of alpha male and juvenile playboy. He loves the ladies and they love him. He never stays too long with one woman but Zoe has him thinking long term. I loved him because as much as he wants to play the "man" and protect Zoe from harm, he steps back and Zoe is able to do the job she was trained for. He's a partner and a friend to Zoe and that was something I really liked.

If you haven't given Joan Swan's books a try, First Temptations. Though it's a part of the Covert Affairs series (and part of the Wicked Firsts anthology along with Laura Wright, Alexandra Ivy, Elisabeth Naughton and more), it can be read as a stand alone without any fear of major spoilers.

Okay…let me just say “HELL YEAH!” “First Temptation” is a novella from her series “Covert Affairs”

This book was everything I love to see in romance stories. A tough woman, who can kick drug cartel ass, yet who oozes so much sex appeal she could be a stripper. A hot sexy guy who tries to be an overbearing Alpha, but then realizes he can stand with her or against her.

Zoe is trying to get away from her current job as a Border Patrol Agent. She wants to try something different and if she’s honest with herself, she wants to run from the guilt she has after one of her teammates is killed. She goes to a meeting after a rough night of chasing down drug runners, to discuss a possible undercover job and it’s there she meets Taft.

“Hey, boss.” The man’s voice vibrated in a smooth, rich timbre that made Zoe want to close her eyes. “Looking good. How’s your girl?”

No, Zoe definitely didn’t know this man. She would never forget a voice like that. It curled through her body like the first sip of her hot coffee, tingling down her chest and spreading through her belly.

She was either really, really tired or this guy was really, really yummy.

As Mr. Yum talked to Rio, Zoe glanced up, appreciating an overall build as delicious as his abs and his voice put together, but his face was blocked by the brim of her uniform ball cap. Just as well. This was not the day to meet a hot guy—

The undercover job requires them to pretend to be a couple who run a sex shop. When Taft gives her the once over, all he sees is a tomboyish looking woman, with no curves, bad attitude and no sex appeal. He refuses to work with her. Zoe takes it upon herself to change his mind.

He was going to send Brooks over the edge . Then maybe he’d get a hot partner he could authentically get it on with.

He leaned over and glanced beneath the table, then sat up with a heavy sigh. “Baby, you couldn’t sex yourself up enough to fit into a store like that if you worked at it for a month.”

Her fork hit the plate again . But this time it hadn’t fallen. She’d thrown it. “Oh, you don’t think so?”

“Okay,” Rio broke in, “hold on—”

“Nope,” Taft said to Zoe, ignoring Rio. He shoved the rest of the muffin into his mouth. “I know so.”

She slid sideways out of her chair and stood. Instead of storming out like he expected, she held his gaze and rolled her shoulders in a slow shrug. The oddly sensual move made her jacket fall off her shoulders. But the look in her eyes was what hinted that Taft was about to eat his words.

And boy does he! I loved seeing Zoe bounce between both sides of her personality, from kick your ass to grab your ass. And the sex…omg…the sex. One word. Stairs. That’s just a few of the reasons I give “First Temptation” by Joan Swan 5 Sizzling Stars!

Zoe has been ready to move on from her job as a Border Patrol Agent ever since the death of one of her partners, Cody. When a risqué undercover position with ICE comes up, Zoe jumps at the chance to be part of it. Her experience and knowledge will give her the edge she needs...even if it means having to work with Taft. Taft initially doesn't think Zoe has what it takes professionally or personally to get the job done, but Zoe soon proves him wrong!

Working together as a married couple running their adults only shop, Zoe and Taft are trying to bring down a notorious Mexican drug dealer. Between learning about various sex toys and the dangers of finding the players in the drug ring, Zoe and Taft soon find they are very compatible...but Zoe has a rule about having relationships with people she works with. When Zoe almost walks away from the job thinking her identity has been discovered, her and Taft soon find out they know just what the other needs and they don't need sex toys to do what they do so well together!

Zoe stays on the job though, and her and Taft put on one big show, hoping to draw the players out. It works better than either of them anticipated, both professionally as well as personally...and when the investigation cumulates, both will have to trust the other if they are to survive.

In First Temptation, Joan gives us a fast paced, suspenseful romance in which the main characters really are meant for each other. Taft challenges Zoe and makes her bring out her feminine, senuous side that is usually well hidden. He is not afraid to admit when he's wrong, he's honest, and protective of not only Zoe, but any colleague. He is hot and knows how to please Zoe! Zoe has lived a lot of her life being one of the guys, not openly embracing the woman in her. We are given enough background to understand why, so it makes it even better when Zoe and Taft embrace who she is! I loved both Zoe and Taft...they were able to easily move past their initial annoyance with each other, they worked well together and they played very well together! Their relationship moved fast, but it was believable...sometimes you just know.

The pace of First Temptation was perfect, Joan kept me very interested in both the romance and the suspense, I really loved how the story played out...sometimes unexpectedly!

First Temptation by Joan Swan is one very hot romantic suspense story. It is the second book in Joan's Covert Affairs Series and much steamier than the first one, Intimate Enemies.

In First Temptation, we follow the story of Taft (Counterterrorism Agent) and Zoe (Border Patrol Agent) and their assignment to go undercover by posing as a couple that owns an adult store next to suspected Mexican cartel smugglers. It was quite entertaining to read about because Zoe knows nothing about the adult "toys" and Taft has a good time teasing her about many of the products they sell. Taft and Zoe are well developed and such fun characters. The dialogue and chemistry between Taft and Zoe is so perfect, even when they have doubts about one another. The plot fits right in line with the series and from the opening scene to the ending scene, I was all in.

As mentioned above, First Temptation is pretty hot on the romance and intimacy and lighter on the suspense. I wasn't sure if I would like this series going too hot because I loved Intimate Enemies with the balance that it had, but this novella turned out great. I felt just as satisfied with the surprising and awesome ending.

Joan's writing is so full of emotion in general. Her characters are tough and strong but can be so romantic and passionate with each other. I love that. If you follow my reviews much you know that I am a very picky about intimate scenes in books. I don't want them to be rough and raw with no feeling. I don't really like to read about sex. I want to read about the emotions that go into it. I want to feel that the characters are in love (or soon to be) even if they don't know it yet. Joan accomplishes this for me. She doesn't use foul words or descriptions in her writing and I think that is what makes it more sensual and passionate.

First Temptation is a really fun read. Some undercover assignments don't last weeks, months or years, so this story worked well for the series and wasn't too deep or heavy, but overall entertaining. If you are looking for a hot, sexy, novella with a suspenseful plot, I think you should give First Temptation a try. You will want to read all of Joan Swan's books after it.

(SEX) TOYS-R-US !!
Edit

Normally I like to start my postings off with a link to the book on Amazon, but as of this writing, there ISN’T a link up yet – boo :( !! This novella also has some name flip-flopping, because the cover on my ARC shows the title as “First Addiction”, but NetGalley & Joan Swan’s website show it as “First Temptation”. I’m mentioning BOTH names so that you can more easily find it when it reaches its release date of 8/19/13. (Of course, you can always just run a search by her name.)

“First _____” is a Covert Affairs novella, to go along with her other book in the series, “Intimate Enemies (Covert Affairs Series)“. (Which I’m now going to have to go read, because this novella was such a great read!) The story starts with Zoe, from Border Patrol, and Taft, from DHS, being paired up in order to go undercover — as sex toy store owners. Okay, OBVIOUSLY, this book has sex in it. Hot sex. Fun sex. Toy sex. And the most fun part about it? The comments ABOUT the toys, especially since Zoe has NEVER used a toy – whereas Taft seems intimately knowledgeable. LOL! Despite the toys, there’s nothing too wild about the book – and in & of themselves, the toys they “test drive” aren’t anything that would make you think, “EWWWWW!” But ya gotta love it when the female character does things like try to stand a certain way in order to block her view of the “dildo mecca” or wonders out loud, while looking through a toy catalog, why anyone would want that to do that. But fun with toys aside… First and foremost, this is a romantic suspense novella and there is lots of suspense & action! The book opens with Zoe out on patrol at night taking down illegals / drug runners on ATV and foot. The story is very good; character development is believable; and there are enough twists, turns & surprises to keep a reader entertained!

Not sure yet what this will be priced; but Intimate Enemies (Covert Affairs Series), is a 362 novel priced at $1.99 (YAY! Awesome price!). I can only hope that as a shorter-length novella, First _______ will also be appropriately priced. THUMBS UP for this book!

Wow!! That was a seriously hot little read!!!! The chemistry was off the charts and scrumptious!! I need to fan my face for a bit!

Zoe is more than a little bit awesome! She rocks and owns her sensuality. I love that she doesn't let Walker treat her like a helpless little lady. The way she schooled him in the cafe was priceless.

Taft Walker has his moments where he is a total ass. Fortunately, Zoe is fabulous at putting him in his place and showing the error of his ways. They have fabulous banter and a delightful dynamic throughout the book.

Lord have mercy, those smexy scenes were hot! Pantie drenching steam that was uber smexy. This is pretty close to erotic detail in a fairly mainstream read. Rough play with sex toys thrown in as a bonus! I was saying yes, yes, oh Gawd yes!!!

The book is a mixed narrative, popping between the two leads POV. I prefer this style because you really get to see the relationship from both angles. It makes for a more well rounded love story. Or lust story in this case. I am sure they are headed to the HEA, but I think feelings are a little early to solid.

The story was great and I kind of wished it had been longer. There was so much more that could have happened in the investigation and the romance. I love a quickie, but this was such a delight I was sad to see it end.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Amanda Leigh Cobb, who was fabulous!! Her voice has a perfect rasp to fit the sassy leading lady. She puts such delicious energy into the smexy scenes, a girl could embarrass her self listening in public! I found myself looking around and blushing! Great pace in the read kept the movement of the story flowing. I will definitely look for more of her work!

Overall, this was a terrific extension of the series. It connects nicely to the first book with a little update on Cassie and Rio. I am eager to see more of this series and really hope there are plans to continue in audio! Ms. Swan is going on my stalking...um following lists!

I am really starting to wonder why in the hell I haven't heard of some of these authors that I'm reading lately!! Why have I never heard of Joan Swan?!? I'm just not understanding. Great authors should NEVER be kept secret! Who is it I need to be stalking in order to find out about these writers? All this lost time!! I could have been reading her books since last year!! Ugh. So frustrating.

Well, at least I've found her now because DAMN. Swan is an amazing writer! This novella had me hooked from the first sentence. I love how you're just thrown into the excitement from the very first sentence. Being that captivating from the get-go must be difficult or all writers would have the same thing going on.

I immediately fell in love with the main character, Zoe Brooks. This character absolutely commands your attention. It's great seeing such a strong female character. She's a strong, willful woman in a mans world and she fits right in. On the flip-side, she's sexy and funny and sassy. I just loved her. She was a perfectly messed-up character (the flawed kind that I adore).

I really liked the interaction between Taft and Zoe. The verbal sparring between the two was awesome. It reminded me of my husband and I.

The story was very well written. I was left with absolutely no questions or doubts about anything. The novella flowed so well ... this author is just amazing! I'll definitely be picking up some more of her books. Well, once I'm done with the pile that I have to get through. But Swan is on my radar and she should be on yours as well. If you like romantic-suspense books, you just have to pick this up when it becomes available ... which is soon ... right?!? (Nudge, nudge to the powers that be ...)

This is a super short review but I really don't have anything else to say ... I loved the book. I love the characters. I love the storyline. I love the cover. I love the author. Sigh. I really wish I didn't have other things lined up to read ...

Wowza!

What a fantastic novella to accompany the Covert Affairs series by Joan Swan! After reading Intimate Enemies, which is one of my faves, I wanted more! I love these characters and was delighted that Rio is in First Temptation, too.

There were so many things I loved about First Temptation. Right away there is action and danger. Zoe Brooks is a border patrol agent who is ready to change jobs. Her first assignment working undercover with ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) pairs her with agent Taft Walker. They butt heads for a bit, but soon there's a lot of fiery chemistry igniting between them as they pretend to be a couple running a shop...a sex toy shop! Oh boy...does it get delicious with sex toys, poles and some very sexy dirty dancing!

One of the things I love about Joan Swan's romantic suspense is that her heroines are just as swoon-worthy as her heroes. Being a woman in this line of work is not easy. Zoe is strong-minded and can get the job done even in heels. She's such a sensual tease! For the first time in his life, Taft, a non-commitment type of guy, wants something more!

I thought this novella was very fun and exciting. It had a great balance of action, suspense, sexy times, and romance with heart. I giggled, I swooned, I was kept at the edge of my seat. If you're looking for something quick to read in the romantic-suspense genre that is also erotic and thrilling, you may want to try this one out.

First Temptation can be read as a stand-alone. It's also part of the anthology, Wicked Firsts Wicked Firsts by Elisabeth Naughton .

First Temptation is a novella following after Intimate Enemies of the Covert Affairs series by Joan Swan. I was a bit surprised that there was a novella for this series. Being that I enjoyed Intimate Enemies, I just had to jump at the chance to read this book. Well, I’m glad I didn’t miss it because Ms. Swan wrote another hot and engaging read.

Zoe was a Border Patrol Agent who is ready to do some undercover work. Unfortunately, in this line of work, women do not get the same credibility as men do. Especially when her colleagues, won’t give her the benefit of the doubt. She will need to work hard to earn respect…oddly, as a cop and as a seductive woman. Well, she would have to as her assignment is to go undercover with Agent Taft as a couple who are very, very active and comfortable in their sexual activities.

I have to tell you that I truly enjoyed this novella. It had a good suspenseful story line and most definitely great in the sexy department. The tension between Zoe and Taft were palpable, and their banter made me laugh-out-loud. I can’t help but wonder if Zoe or her previous partner was mentioned in Intimate Enemies as that book focused on Mexico’s gangs and border issues. I actually tried to look, but my lendable copy had expired.=( On that note, I love seeing a bit of Rio. He still exudes confidence and still has the I’m-the-big-shot persona. Ms. Joan definitely knows how to create sexy heroes.

What do you get when you mix Covert Affairs and Sex Toys? One GREAT book!

Zoe is a border patrol agent that is excellent at her job. But she's done it for a long time and recently lost her partner and is looking for a change. As she is beginning a meeting about a possible future position Taft shows up. He is in Covert Affairs. He is arrogant and condescending and tries to dismiss Zoe as he thinks his time is more important than hers. She doesn't let him get away with it and puts him in his place. They don't like one another but their but there is definitely chemistry between them. When they discover that they have to work together on an undercover operation as the owners of a sex toy shop things get really good. Taft doesn't think that Zoe can pull it off by looking at her in her uniform. Once again she puts him in his place when she slowly strips out of her uniform in the middle of a diner and shows him just what she can pull off. Taft finds out that uniforms can hide alot of sexy underneath.

When they get to the store, Taft is familiar with alot of the toys. Zoe isn't. Taft feels that sex needs toys to spice it up. Zoe feels that toys aren't needed if the sex is done correctly. I refuse to give away the details but lets just say they come to an interesting compromise on this subject.

This book is excellent. The back and forth banter between Taft and Zoe is great. Neither are sure they want to get involved because they each have personal issues that they need to overcome. They both learn that trust is an important part of any relationship.

I highly recommend that you read this series!First Temptation

It's been quite a while since I read the first book in the Covert Affairs series, INTIMATE ENEMIES. In fact it's been almost 2 years!! When an opportunity to read and review the third book presented itself I grabbed it, knowing I'd have this second book to read too first.

The chemistry and banter between Zoe and Taft was off the charts from the very first meeting. I really loved how sassy Zoe didn't take crap from Taft. And let's face it: an undercover operation in an adult store? Isn't that the perfect premise for a scorching hot suspense book? I can definitely confirm this. FIRST TEMPTATION was witty, exciting and really hot! The sex scenes were intenseand hot, the plot was exciting and well done with an unexpected twist and I liked the characters a lot.

Memorable Scenes:
- the one at Zoe's dining room table and later on the stairs > redhot!!
- the one with the pole dancing > djeezzzz, I want pole dancing lessons now!

Favorite Quotes:
No, Zoe definitely didn’t know this man. She would never forget a voice like that. It curled through her body like the first sip of her hot coffee, tingling down her chest and spreading through her belly.

“You’re fired. Now we don’t work together anymore.” He moved the hand at the middle of her abdomen to the side of her face and turned her head so she was looking up at him over her shoulder. “Because I have to have you. I have to touch you everywhere. I have to taste you. I have to be inside you. Explore you. It’s not a want anymore, Zoe. It’s what I need. And if you can’t mix guys and work, then fine, you’re fired.”

This sexy action packed novella is the story of Zoe and Taft. Pretending to be a couple while working undercover as managers of a sex shop, Zoe and Taft are really after the drug cartel members using a neighboring shop as a front. But while their intense attraction for each other makes their cover look good, is it possible that it will lead them to a real relationship?

I loved this story! Joan Swan is very adept at combining an intriguing story line with sexy love scenes and fast paced action. Zoe was presented as a strong confident woman working in the man's world of border security. Dealing with chauvinistic attitudes, she knows she has to work harder than her male counterparts to prove that she can do the job. At the same time, she is very feminine and secure in her desirability. These features attract Taft to her. Taft is equally personable as a tough determined man with a sweet side to his nature. Together they are dynamite, whether on the job or in bed. The sexual attraction between them sizzles and the love scenes are intense and well written. Alternating the points of view between them also adds an interesting dynamic as their emotions and thoughts are revealed to the reader. I also found the setting of the book very interesting - both the border security background as well as the adult shop - an intriguing mix!

This isn't the first book in the covert affairs series, and I'm delighted to have a backlist to go to for more intense heat and action. 5 stars!

This book started out with action and with a woman in charge, so it could only go up from there, but this woman had to deal with the dangers that were in the her field of work, along with the danger of overbearing men who didn't trust her ability... At First!

Zoe spent her life trying to be something she wasn't. Her father wanted a son, so she was raised to do all the things a boy would do, and became just as tough. This toughness gave her an edge, but also made her vulnerable in some ways.

When she looks for a job change, she goes to Rio, who teams her with Taft on an undercover job. Taft teases her and doubts her ability, so Zoe is more determined to prove her skills, even if it puts her in danger.

The two have to work together and the closeness bring out a chemistry that neither of them can't deny, but they both try to fight for their own reasons. Unfortunately, the nature of the assignment makes the chemistry that much better and the story that much hotter!

This segment of the Covert Affairs Series was a steamy addition. If you read Intimate Enemies (Rio & Cassie's story) that is great, but it was not necessary to truly understand this addition to the series. Rio added some humor to the story & pushed together two hot new characters.

I truly hope to see them in later books. I loved them together.

When Zoe Brooks gets her transfer from working the Border Patrol front lines to working investigations for ICE, her first assignment is working with Counterterrorist agent Taft Walker to put the stop to a new tunnel which will be used to smuggle drugs, weapons, and terrorists into the US from Mexico. Posing undercover as owners of an adult store which is located next door to the cigar shop which is the front for the local cartel, Zoe and Taft are confronted with a mutual attraction that goes deeper than physical and must work through personal issues while using their cover to take down the bad guys.

This was another great entry in the Covert Affairs series by Joan Swan. Both Zoe and Taft are great characters. Zoe is a strong, capable and competent agent who has been hurt in her past so she has both trust issues and a need to be seen for who she really is. Taft has avoided relationships, not being able to deal with "clingy" and "needy" women, always opting for one-night stands.

It was refreshing to read a story where the characters kept the emotional angst level down and allowed themselves to be happy. This story was packed with action, suspense, romance, heat, and humor. From the action packed opening right through the end, this story kept a fast pace and the only thing it left you wanting more from at the end was additional stories from this series.
