Vladimir Sorokin (Владимир Сорокин, Vlagyimir Szorokin) was born in a small town outside of Moscow in 1955. He trained as an engineer at the Moscow Institute of Oil and Gas, but turned to art and writing, becoming a major presence in the Moscow underground of the 1980s. His work was banned in the Soviet Union, and his first novel, The Queue, was published by the famed émigré dissident Andrei Sinyavsky in France in 1983. In 1992, Sorokin’s Collected Stories was nominated for the Russian Booker Prize; in 1999, the publication of the controversial novel Blue Lard, which included a sex scene between clones of Stalin and Khrushchev, led to public demonstrations against the book and to demands that Sorokin be prosecuted as a pornographer; in 2001, he received the Andrei Biely Award for outstanding contributions to Russian literature. Sorokin is also the author of the screenplays for the movies Moscow, The Kopeck, and 4, and of the libretto for Leonid Desyatnikov’s Rosenthal’s Children, the first new opera to be commissioned by the Bolshoi Theater since the 1970s. He has written numerous plays and short stories, and his work has been translated throughout the world. Among his most recent books are Sugar Kremlin and Day of the Oprichnik. He lives in Moscow.

Steven King fumează nervos într-un colț!

Vladimir Sorokin 5/5⭐

- pentru cei lipsiți de prejudecăți;
- pentru cei cu gustul universal în toate;
- pentru cei care nu se lasă impresionați ușor;
- pentru cei care nu plâng când privesc filmul "Titanic" sau "A walk to remember";
- pentru cei care pot mânca fructe cu lapte;
- pentru oamenii care iubesc filmul "Saw";

You can consider me sick indeed, but I'll write it as it is. Put 3 stars for the overall content of the text. Scooped the other 2 for that:

1) Sadism for the sake of sadism. Even if it's fairly well-described, but he did not lead to anything. The process of rebirth within a single text ... and? Maybe there is a second / third / fifth part and I missed something? Or is this episode - is the whole story itself?
2) Filthy language in the text. Just personal, I do not really like that. In particular - "a piece * of the penis * and * vagina *" or whatever it was.
3) Unclear images and comparisons. Just no.
4) The shock, as for me, is below zero. To shock, there was a too short road to ensure that it had at least some effect of surprise.
5) Urinary juices, boiling and bubbling - this is just something xD.
6) The text itself is about nothing. He tells just a rather grim story, but which, again, does not lead anywhere. And it is unclear why it even exists.
7) Well, the technical design of the story telling as well. Scary.

Also bustings with praise Nietzsche (apparently, the author wanted to write something like that, but it turned out more from the Kafka category than Nietzsche). Descriptions cause disgust not by created images, namely the technical side. And so on.

About the wasted time - I can argue though. Three stars - not one, but "three times better" ;D. In short, screw it, together with the author, let him go reborn xD.

No stars solely because this was a reading I had to do for class and I avoid giving ratings for assigned readings. However, I still felt compelled to leave a review.

As others have mentioned, this is the only story that has ever made me physically ill. It’s not so much the body horror and torture, but the grotesque nature of the characters (which is very impressive). As a former 16 year old girl, I can definitely confirm that you do get roasted alive and eaten in your birthday. Jokes aside, this is a harrowing yet compelling story about the “consumption” of girls and women as well as how disgusting and harmful it is.

I loved this book. it had a really good description of an action. I have bought many metaphors that we can use in a world we live in right now. Author described the whole desire of people in the society, only eating, drinking, and having pleasure. Personally, I could also compare it to my own life, knowing that people talk about each other just like the whole family was eating the girl in the book. however it also presented to me the fact that Nastya was scared ro go into the "big world"(oven) knowing that people will be speaking about her (eating her). The book overall is great.

I get the metaphor, thanks. However, I still think that this kind of literature is sick and can do only bad to your soul. Not the way to go, in my opinion.

So the book is like a very ill trolling about understanding Nietzsche literally and (I guess) the decaying Russia in the name of some vague ideas that look disgusting in real life.

The style is by the way absolutely beautiful. I loved the "Blizzard" by Sorokin and I recommend it to everyone. But this - no :).
