Heartbroken, angry, and hurting, warlock Finn de Morisco can feel darkness growing inside, altering every aspect of his life. There are moments when the man he used to be seems to have been devoured completely. Retreating from his family and everything he once held dear, Finn attempts to escape the despair left in the wake of Brett’s rejection—only to find dangers he never knew existed.
Still struggling with the decision to leave everything he knew behind, Brett Wright is swept into a maelstrom as he searches for his place within his newly discovered family. Life beneath the surface of the ocean should have been unlike anything he’s ever known, yet prejudice over his demon ancestry and homosexuality follows him. Even the existence he begins to build may not last as those he is learning to love face extinction.
Brandon Witt's outlook on life is greatly impacted by his first eighteen years of growing up gay in a small town in the Ozarks, as well as fifteen years as a counselor and special education teacher for students with severe emotional disabilities. Add to that his obsession with corgis and mermaids, then factor in an unhealthy love affair with cheeseburgers, and you realize that with all those issues, he's got plenty to write about....
Where I thought that book #1 Submerging Inferno was a solid book, but a bit more New Adult, Rising Frenzy was anything but. This is a grown ups book.
I'm not always good with series, my personality is such that I am easily bored. Even though I love paranormal writing, for a book within a series to get 5 stars it has to meet the following criteria -
1) Characters who I am totally, utterly and thoroughly invested in because they are going to be taking me on a journey and I need to be on board with them to keep going. I also need great secondary characters because they help to stop the series from going stale - Check
2) Great world building without boring the crap out of me. I want to be in awe of where I am, contemporary or not - Check
3) Once again, in order for me not to get bored easily, I need to see that the series is going somewhere really interesting - Check
4) I want good, strong passionate writing. I want to fall in love, I want to hate people, I want to be uncertain exactly what might be going to happen so I can freak out along the way - Check
5) I need the books to get better as they progress. Book #1 does have to have a hook, but from there they darned well better to grab me and drag me kicking and screaming into the next book - Check
6) I want them to make me forget I have people in my life who actually want to talk to me and also about 10 other ARC's sitting on my Kindle because all I can think about is getting to the end of this series because nothing else freaking matters! - Check
There are other criteria, but these will do as The Men of Myth series meets these and then some. I now love Schwint and I still like Brett a real lot. And...Finn. They make me feel like I am a teenager wanting to see my favourite couple get together, but not sure that will happen. I currently feel like team Adrian in a grown up Vampire Academy, that kind of sucks. I love Schwint, I'm interested in Tribe Chromis - I want to know more about the mer. The flipping Vampire Cathedral, bastards. The fairy world and moon party was beyond fabulous - I want to eat mushrooms. I love the world on land and like the world under the ocean, although I can't see myself lasting there. Yes, I picture that.
I love Finn de Morisco (every time he is on page I am gone, yes, I know I am repetitive), and his lovely family, and I am in love with Lelas as well.
I want to know what the fuck is going to happen next!! So, with that last eloquent phrase out, here is the longer review with NSFW pictures http://ontopdownunderbookreviews.com/...
This entire list of things I loved about Rising Frenzy includes spoilers for its predecessor, Submerging Inferno.
- I love Schwint so, so much.
- I love the underwater world Brett inhabits. Brandon Witt's writing comes alive in the most wonderful ways when he is writing these scenes. Every color, every image, every nuance is perfectly articulated.
- Overall, actually, the writing in Rising Frenzy is on a much higher level than Submerging Inferno. A quick glance at the author's note reveals that this was the first book Witt wrote after being published, and the confidence that gave him really comes through in the writing. Right off the bat, the descriptive language is noticeably heightened (I'm thinking specifically of chapter 2 when Finn is tripping on Spor), and that carries throughout the novel.
- Brandon Witt is using familiar creatures and mythological beings (vampires, witches, werewolves, mers, fairies, demons, etc), but he's creating his own rules for how they act and interact. His vampires are both traditional and not (and a lot more frightening than the romanticized mainstream view of vampires that has proliferated following the success of Twilight); his witches are based very much in the ancient Pagan religions with their connections to/powers over the elements; etc. These are all paranormal creatures we've encountered before, but they feel like they are part of a new world Witt has constructed
- The correlation between being demonic and being gay comes across very strong in this book, and I think it's a very smart way of relating the two things. Brett's fire is the physical manifestation of his homosexuality, in a way, and how those around him react to it (including Brett, himself) is one of the more interesting parts of both this and the first book. There are strong themes of acceptance and belonging in Brett's story, and I think that's something most of us can identify with, gay or not.
- Finn's characterization after Brett leaves him is both annoying and totally realistic. Whereas I wanted to figuratively slap him across the face, Moonstruck style, I know that the way he deals with the heartbreak of being left alone is how many would react: melodramatically and promiscuously. But that also leads to the introduction of Schwint, so I'm okay with it.
I'm ready for Clashing Tempest... I'm really curious to see where this ends up.
I remember my friend's sister loved The Little Mermaid and I liked watching the movie too. This book is not The Little Mermaid but it looks like my mermaid love has stayed with me. I liked reading about Brett's new life in the ocean. It's not so easy for him but he is hanging in there. I love the tribe and their descriptions.
On the land Finn is all kinds of messed up and sleeping with everyone he can. There is a voice inside his head which is driving him crazy. I'd do spor too if I was him. But I did want to tell him to get his head together. He's hurting. Schwindt is pretty awesome and he is so patient.
I've always liked fantasy and these are my first MM fantasy books. I like that. But now I don't know who I want Finn to be with. I have to say book 2 is even better than book 1 so I will read book 3.
This is Book two in this series. It’s probably best to read in order as this one picks up where the other left off. This book is sort of like getting three books in one. We get Finn’s side and also more on what’s going on with Brett, plus a bonus. Rising Frenzy picks up where the Submerging Inferno ended. We begin with Finn after Brett left. Finn isn’t dealing well with the heartbreak. Finn searches for Brett at first, and then tries to get over him in some not so great attempts. Finn has a voice in his head that is pressuring him to be in the square, a seedy supernatural community and he gets involved in Spor, a sex drug, and meets Shwint a fairy. There is a lot going on in Finn’s story, some highs and lows, its dark and sad. My heart broke for Finn. I will say there were times I wanted to shake him or just slap the crap out of him. Brett’s story wasn’t as sad as Finn’s, as Brett found his father and is trying life in the ocean with his newfound Mer family. This story dealt with acceptance, and Brett still dealing with all that is going on in his life, loss, what he is, his new life, and having to accept the rules of the tribe of Mers he has joined. There is lots of action in this part of the story and as in Finn’s story its emotionally deep, yet not as dark. The third story was quite a surprise. I loved how the Author brought this character in with a story of its own. It’s briefer but quite intriguing. I will not tell you who it is you will have to buy the book and find out There were several new characters introduced, as well as some of the ones from the other book such as all of Finn’s family. All of the characters are so well done and intriguing. Some you will love, some you may hate . There are also two new worlds in this book. You have the square; a dark, seedy supernatural community with drugs, sex, danger and all sorts of strange characters. I loved it, though it’s not for the faint of heart. There was also a peek at a fairy community that was so much fun with its lights, sounds, the food and drink; it also added a little light to balance out some of the darkness. Then there was the underwater world. It was so intriguing. The entire journey was beautiful; the colours, the sea life. I felt like I was under there and a mermaid in the journey with Brett and his newfound family. I loved all of these new characters. I cannot wait to see where the next book takes us and how these character’s lives may entwine once again or even if they do. I highly recommend this if you like paranormal (vampires witches, werewolves fairies),Fantasy (mermaids, demons, nymphs )New worlds both supernatural and fantasy and underwater-worlds, dark, deep, emotional stories, and some fairly hot mansex. If you’re looking for something new and different, but dark and deep this series is fantastic.
Where to start. It took me a little while to get into this book, but once I did I couldn't stop reading it. I didn't think anything could top SUBMERGING INFERNO ( BOOK 1). I was wrong. It was just as intriguing and a little more. I loved how Finn's and Brett's characters grew. I was sad when I realized that they wouldn't be getting back together, and their lives went different ways. But I loved the new character Shwint, who enters after Brett's departure. Finn finds his life spiraling out of control, leading him to places he would never of dreamed of going. Self doubt that leads to sex, drugs and strange voices in his head, and Schwint. Together they seek to find what is pulling Finn down other than the loss of Brett. Meanwhile Brett has left to fulfill his yearning of the sea. What he discovers is that he has a father and that he is part mer. From here you are going to have to find out the mysteries that unveil for both Finn and Brett. I Guarantee you will be spell bound at what unfolds! I hate giving away a books content, but I can't even begin to put words to this 2nd book of a triology. Brandon Witt has a way of making you feel like you are right their in the story. I loved how I could picture the ocean below, the characters, sex and the Square. Again I think this series is way better than any vampire etc. stories out there. I have already started the 3rd book of the series, Clashing Tempest. And also his titles suit the books well.
Another evil cliffhanger that only fuels my curiosity and impatience. Faced with a challenge to deliver a book as good as Submerging Inferno, Brandon Witt actually delivers an even better, more complex story.
The alternate universe built by the author has so much detail, you can’t miss a thing. The creatures, the tribes, nothing is left out. They have traditions and legends within the legends. An Amazing job at world building, I can not imagine the planning and research he invested in it.
I must confess this is my first time reading mermen, and if you are a fan, well you are in for a treat. Some mermen we have here. A tribe ruled by a woman, and innocent mermaid that turns into a BFF by being patient and helping Brett understand the new ways, his new life. And some very hot mermen, still ambiguous about their sexuality but I have my eyes set on Wrell. ;)
Brett’s discovery of his family and the legacy, proves to be painful and just as hurtful as the coming of age he faced among his human family. His tribe does not understand his tendencies, blaming his demonic heritage. He has to come out again, face rejection again.
Out, on the surface, still trying to survive is poor lost, lonely, heartbroken Finn. This was the worst part of the story for me, seeing him hurting. And seeing him not coping with it. Drugs, anonymous sex, danger, he doesn't care about himself or his family, he is just gone. He feels broken, not whole and doesn't know how to put the pieces back together. He feels he is not strong enough.
Insert one cute Fairy, OMG. Funny, beautiful, patient. His jokes, his way of seeing life makes all the difference to Finn. He finds someone that has a very light view of life, and that is exactly what Finn needs, a breath of fresh air. New eyes, to see his reality in a new light and maybe found a reason for all the madness that surrounds him.
Definitely a very engaging read. I love all the detail Brandon Witt puts into the story telling, the descriptions, the relationships, the connections. Everything is slowly developed, the thickness of the plot is shown to us chapter after chapter and HONESTLY I didn't know what was coming next. And the funny/weird thing was that I didn't have expectations, like I wasn't thinking this is what I want to happen next; NO I was all for wherever Brandon was leading me, I just wanted to read and enjoy the ride.
Mr. Witt’s evil ways had me shipping the demon and the warlock from the first time they meet, can I call them Brinn? Yes, great. So I was a shipper, and now I have a fairy that I absolutely love and a merman that is OH! so gorgeous, what am I supposed to do here, Mr. Witt? Of course I want Brett to come back to Finn but I don’t want to cause Schwint or Wrell any heartache.
And we are left in the middle of a quest to find the truth about the mers disappearing. Another quest into the Vampire Cathedral to rescue a sister and finally figure out what do the Royals want.
All things considered I think the key, one that will surprise us all, is going to be Sonia.
Definitely a must read for all of you paranormal lovers. Go read, and then come back and tell me what you think. Am I right in my conspiracy theory?
Wow. This was a great continuation of what is proving to be an epic story.
Taking us to the journey of Brett to understand his roots, sending Finn off to "lose himself" in the square, confirming my suspicion of what happened with Sonia...this was an intense read. I love Schwint's playfulness and passion for being. I can't wait to learn more about Lelas and her role in this story.
I feel the stories converging on Costa Rica and taking us to a crazy, epic (I already used that word) battle.
Thank you, Brandon, for letting us play in these worlds. Great job. My only critiques are some nitpicky typos, but with a story like this, who cares.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Not many sequels can match their predecessor or even surpass them. But I think Rising Frenzy might have done the job! Rising Frenzy is everything that a sequel should be: exciting, engrossing, sexy and most of all, really good! Brandon Witt hit this one out of the park. Loved this book!
Another evil cliffhanger that only fuels my curiosity and impatience. Faced with a challenge to deliver a book as good as Submerging Inferno , Brandon Witt actually delivers an even better, more complex story.
This is the second novel in the series. It continues to build a mystery as the plot thickens. You see new sides to the characters, and a few new (and colorful) ones are added. I'm still hooked on the series. If anything, there's more sexual content in this volume, whether that excites you or worries you.
I have to admit, I didn't like this one as much as I do the first, but it's still an engaging read, and I will continue with the series. I do wonder if the 3rd book is the last or if it still has to continue though.. as I know I'm not patient enough to wait it out.
My rating on this book is purely personal preference. The story is well written and the characters enjoyable. But I don't personally like the choices the author made and the direction he's sent the characters in. It made reading every page of this book a chore. I kept having to force myself to go back and finish it. It's clear though that the ultimate direction he intends to take Finn and Brett in isn't going to be one I like.
There's a lot of about the story I like and if it was meant to bring Finn and Brett back together no matter how long it took I'd be fine. But the introduction of Schwint and this successive interactions with Finn make it clear that's not the route the writer is likely to take. I am not enjoying reading a serious that puts to people so desperately in love for the entirety of one book and then does a complete 180 in the next to put them on opposite paths.
Ultimately I will read the third book at some point to give myself the closure, knowing I'm unlikely to really like the choices made. I will try other books by this author as I do enjoy the writing style for the most part. I'm just hoping for different choices the next time around.
This second book has a different feel than the first, it's a bit darker in parts. Brett and Finn are separated and have many changes in their lives. Brett is now with his father and other mermaids, while Finn is a mess with drugs and sex.
I feel like book 1 was a Urban Fantasy book with a pretty strong romantic story line throughout. The MCs fall hard and fast in the face of danger. I was intrigued to read more about what Brett’s lineage was and why he was so powerful. Why a fire demon felt so at home in the water? I understood why this vampire wanted him so bad. Brett always seemed more screwed up to me. Finn seemed like he had it together. He was raised with full knowledge of his power. Has a family that fully supports him. Brett had no one but Sonia. Finn was just a good guy. He helped Brett with his new found powers. Never wavered from supporting the stranger that brought so much danger into their lives. I thought they were pretty sound as a couple. They professed love and risked their lives for each other. Guess I was wrong. This book was basically told from both Finn and Brett’s POV after the split and ended up feeling like two different stories. 400 pages later and the guys never spoke a word to each other. Both men have resolved to just go on about their lives. I did find this rather disappointing. So to be fair I’ll review both of their POVs differently.
Brett’s POV
Book 1 of this series ended with a cliff hanger. Which I don’t mind. Brett ran off half crazed to find a demon. Well he finds him and then he finds his daddy. Which answers the question of why Brett has always loved the ocean. I knew when Brett ran off he had some things to learn about himself and I get that. Some self discovery was probably needed considering his entire world was turned upside down. I did not however think Brett would hide away in the sea with homophobic mermen for the rest of his life. Brett had some daddy issues to work out I guess. And once again he’s a disappointment to the man in his family because he’s attracted to men. Brett feels he has nowhere else to go. He thinks he has to escape his former life because his presence means putting Finn and his family in danger. However he doesn’t really know that the vampire will leave them alone. He just heads off on his quest without much thought of those he left behind. I wasn’t as intrigued by Brett and the Mer people as I thought I’d be. Probably because it didn’t seem at all connected to the previous book. More like another separate story about a character from book one. I realize events in this book will come into play later but this portion of the book felt overly long and didn’t really add much to the story IMO. The only connection I could make to the life Brett left behind is the Mer disappearing which is obviously going to come up again later.
Finn’s POV
Oh boy did Brett break Finn. Finn seemed to have a complete personality change. From nice guy and having his shit together. To having orgies in public while doing a drug called SPOR. Ignoring his family and acting reckless. I get he was hurt and wallowing but I just didn’t see Finn from book 1 falling this far. He also didn’t really seem all that worried about it or anyone. He just had to be at the Square acting like all those supes he used to look down on. Even after he’s come to his senses, the voice from the Square is still talking to him. Telling him how pathetic he is but drawing him into the nastiness that is the Square. While I didn’t really get the why Finn needed to go off the deep end, this part of the story felt much more connected to book 1 for me. Probably because it was set in the same places with the same characters. It also brought us the slutty but fun fairy Schwint. While I do like him, book 1 made me believe it should be Brett and Finn together so I never really warmed to the idea of Finn screwing Schwint while pining for Brett. Probably my issue but my brain just doesn’t work that way. And I certainly didn’t see Finn falling in love with him that quickly. Finn’s confusion in the love department aside, I did enjoy the return of the vampires in this portion of the story. They’re what gives it that scary vibe that I missed so much in Brett’s POV.
I didn’t love this one. Best part of the story were the parts about Sonia for me and those were pretty brief. I’m really hoping after reading book 3 more of book 2 will piece together because I ended this book feeling like I didn’t know much more than I did at the beginning of the book. Which was pretty frustrating considering how long this book is. I know Rising Frenzy isn’t considered a romance but book one had a pretty strong romance going on that was absent in this one. The story just didn’t feel cohesive. I noticed this was a second edition release of this story. Looks like they added 60 plus pages to the book so I don’t know what was added from the first edition or how that effects my take on the book. I just know this one didn’t work for me. Too long and too much of the story felt disconnected from book 1. :( If I had felt some grand web was being woven for me I’d feel better about it but I just got the feeling this was more about exploring sides of the characters vs moving the story along.
Oh no…. Why oh why did I not care for this book? I feel so bad, I wanted to, I like Urban Fantasy, but I just didn’t get what I was wanting out of it. Dammit!
Rising Frenzy is a continuation of the story started in Submerging Inferno, it follows the story of Finn de Morisco and Brett Wright, who we meet in the first book. Here’s a spoiler! Finn and Brett are not together any more. They part at the end of the first book and don’t reunite in this one. This book follows their individual stories.
Finn’s story is about his struggle with a voice he hears in his head, his drug and sex addiction, and his budding relationship with Schwint, a fairy he meets in The Square. I kind of liked Finn’s story, the basic plot anyway, but it took so damn long for anything to happen. I found myself skipping ahead through conversations and descriptions to get to the interesting stuff. I like the relationship between Finn and Schwint, I think there is the possiblity for them to be a good couple. I was ready to scream from Finn whining about Brett leaving him however. So glad when that stopped! Finn’s story did have some action, both of the sex variety and some drama, if it was shortened up a bit I probably would have really enjoyed it.
Then we have Brett. He took off at the end of the last book on a quest to find his parentage. Here’s another spoiler. He’s half merman, and is found by his father. He goes off under the ocean to learn about his mer heritage. Then we have chapter after chapter of him swimming around with a bunch of boring merfolk. I am sorry, I did not care at all about any of it! I must confess to skipping through it as well, trying to find some action…. there was an interesting fight with a group of sharks, but mostly it was internal politics within the group of mer folks. Who are a nasty bunch of bigots. They don’t like Brett because he’s part demon and gay. That got old really quick. I have no idea why he didn’t just tell them all to fuck off and leave. But he doesn’t and it continued…
So I guess I misunderstood what this series was. It is urban fantasy with gay characters. It is not really a romance. I thought it would be about Brett and Finn as a couple, but it’s Brett and Finn as individual characters, having two seperate stories. There is nothing wrong with that. If you want an urban fantasy story, with lots of detail and creative characters you’ll probably like these books just fine. The writing is good, the characters are interesting, and the world building is very creative. I don’t have an issue with any of that. I was expecting more romance, and a connection between the main characters. That is what is missing for me.
I’m not going to give this book a low rating because I had a different expectation. The book is good, it’s just not what I was expecting. I hope that makes sense! I will be reading the next one, I am curious to see how it all ends now, so off we go to book three!

Rising Frenzy picks up where the Submerging Inferno ended so I do suggest you read this series in order. This book is sort of like getting three books in one. We get Finn’s side and also more on what’s going on with Brett, plus a bonus. We begin with Finn after Brett left. Finn isn’t dealing well with the heartbreak. Finn searches for Brett at first, and then tries to get over him in some not so great attempts. Brett’s story isn’t as sad as Finn’s, as Brett found his father and is trying life in the ocean with his newfound Mer family. This story dealt with acceptance, and Brett still dealing with all that is going on in his life, loss, what he is, his new life, and having to accept the rules of the tribe of Mers he has joined. There is lots of action in this part of the story and as in Finn’s story it’s emotionally deep, yet not as dark. The third story was quite a surprise. I loved how the Author brought this character in with a story of its own. It’s briefer but quite intriguing. I will not tell you who it is you will have to buy the book and find out. I highly recommend this if you like paranormal (vampires witches, werewolves, fairies), Fantasy (mermaids, demons, nymphs) New worlds, both supernatural and fantasy and underwater-worlds, dark, deep, emotional stories, and some fairly hot man-sex. If you’re looking for something new and different, but dark and deep this series is fantastic. It will make you angry at times and happy at others. I absolutely love everything about this series.
“Marina whirled. “Shut up! Both of you. We get it. Werewolves and fairies don’t mix. Must you two reenact this every time you see each other? Get a room already, and either kill each other or fuck, one or the other!”
Rising Frenzy is the second book in Brandon Witt’s gripping new series Men of Myth. It starts right after Brett Wright walks away from Finn de Morisco, leaving him hurting, angry, and heartbroken. Finn withdraws from his family and his former life, and spends his time visiting The Square-a secret place where the vampires, witches, werewolves, and other supernatural beings go to indulge their darker sides-Finn starts to hear a voice in his head, belittling him and leaving Finn wondering if he’s going insane. He becomes addicted to Spor-a drug made by the fairies-because it helps him cope with the pain of Brett’s rejection. He realizes that there’s a lot more to the voice than what he thinks, and that what he finds out will change the future for him and his family in ways yet unknown. Brett tries to find a place with his new family, but finds out that prejudice over his demon ancestry and homosexuality have followed him under the ocean. The obstacles that he overcomes to fit into his new exsistance may not matter, because his new family is facing possible extinction.
This is a complex character and plot driven tale that pulls you into a fascinatingly well built world where vampires, witches, werewolves, warlocks, and many other supernatural races exist unknown to the human world. The characters are vivid, three dimensional, and have the same hopes, dreams, faults, and foibles as anyone in the “real” world. The backstory fills in any gaps, and answers the question of how and why the characters are the way they are now. With a smooth plot flow, this tale pulls you in from the beginning and leaves you quickly turning the page to find out what happens next. The men are hot, the emotions hotter, and the sex is literally out of this world! The author’s writing style is eloquent, concise, and highly original. Brendan Witt takes the “good vs evil” concept and gives it a very unique and highly original twist. I loved how the author builds a world that is so vivid and complex that I actually wish that I could visit there. The story has a bittersweet ending, and you get the sense of even more heartache and danger down the road. If you want to read a wickedly entertaining book that is ANYTHING but ordinary, then definitely check this one out.
Book: Rising Frenzy Series: Men of Myths Book 2 Author: Brandon Witt Publisher: Dreamspinner Press Genre: Psy Fi Fantasy Rated M/M Mature
This second book in the Men of Myth Series makes me squeal with joy!!! This author has raised the bar for the second book, getting into his groove now, bringing more characters into the story for us to love. We still having the POV of the two young me Brett and Finn. Now separated, each going on their own life’s path. It is imperative for the reader to read this story in order to understand the flow. Finn the Warlock suffers tremendously through the loss of Brett, his confidence at its lowest and finds solace at The Square. That is a one block area of town which houses bars and clubs frequented by the paranormal. Finn uses his time to drown himself in Spor, an drug that numbs his mind to use the backrooms of these places for indiscriminant sex. This is where Finn and the reader are introduced to Schwindt, a beautiful Fairy. Brett is under the sea, in a land of Mermen and Mermaids. From the moment he left Brett he went to the ocean, and here the reader is introduced to life under the waves. We first meet his father Theirn and now we learn and Brett learns the story of his past. We watch as Brett is painfully alone with only his own thoughts, ostracized by this group for his Demon/Human/Mer makeup. It is here with great difficulty he has to learn how to speak without using his voice to communicate, to slowly making a life for himself with members of the group, and friends who eventually will respect him. It is here we meet Lelas a Mermaid who reminds him of Sonia who he has lost. Mr Witt has so much to tell of this underwater life and I loved it. I loved the world of the Mers who can travel at will from one location to another, how they feed, how their world works. I loved seeing the growth of Brett and Finn being separate. I also loved to hear from Sonia and read thru her POV and what happened to her. Uggh worse than you could imagine…. I like this second book more than the first meeting many new characters. I do believe that the third book, the next story is going to have a big fat giant meeting of all the characters meeting up for a Big Show Down !!! So Mr. Witt, Bring it!!!
Review by Gloria Lakritz Sr Reviewer and Review Chair for the Paranormal Romance Guild
If your reading book two then you already know this series is for adults. There is even more adult content (sex, violence, drugs, ect.)in this story- just a warning for those who do not enjoy those type of things in their reading. There is a dark paranormal side. I felt this book was different than the first by the default of being a middle book. The first book sets us up, the second gives us tons of info, and then the third delivers the conclusion. We got to know the characters a lot more in this book and also learned about more types of creatures the world holds. I liked lots of parts but some parts were too much for me. I recommend sticking it out because it does get better (book three needs this stuff.) It was also hard for me to keep reminding myself which characters point of view I was reading. I'm not use to books that change them up but it works well with these books. I really did want to know what was going on with other characters. On to book three...
Another cliffhanger of sorts with a definite lead into the next book in the series. A lot of thought and imagination went into these books. I'm afraid I did set it aside towards the middle for a while. Brett's life is a bit dull under the water. Regardless, I'm sure I'll read the next in the series.
The rating is base on what and how the book is written. Story-wise - it is just ok for me but it's a personal thing where I wanted more romance in a book.
I`m not very fond of Brett and I found the parts of the story about him not that interesting. However, I liked Finn and Schwint. I really hope these two get their HEA.
