Franklin's Day with Dad
Franklin gets a great idea when he hears that Fox and his dad are spending the day doing "special stuff". "Coolio!" he says. "I'm going to have a Day with Dad today, too!" His dad, Mr. Turtle, thinks this is a splendid idea, but first they have to get to the store to replace their broken rain barrel. Once at the store, they help Mr. Mole hang a sign, and on the way home, Mr. Groundhog needs help fixing the hole in his roof. Franklin starts to get worried. When will they ever get on with their fun day together? Eventually, Franklin realizes this is their fun day together! He has learned an important lesson about time spent with his dad: ?It doesn't matter what we do, as long as we're together.?
The stories in this series resonate with young children because Franklin and his animal friends consistently face problems and difficulties much like those in children's own day-to-day lives. And Franklin always finds a solution that is easy to understand, realistic and fair. With characters that are well-known to young children through the successful, 3D-animated television show Franklin and Friends, this bright and vivid book would make a wonderful read-aloud for storytime. It offers an excellent opportunity for a tie-in with a character education class about adaptability, kindness or teamwork.

Franklin books are every bit as good as the television cartoons. he shares some great ideas & examples for all young children.
in this book Franklin decides he is going to spend his day with dad, & they will do all kinds of fun activities together. however, they end up spending most of the day helping other people & Franklin begins to worry that he won't get to have his day with dad. that is until, with a little help from friends, he realises that it doesn't matter what they do on his day with dad, what matters is that they are together.
A great way to help children understand that it's not always all about what you do, but who you do it with.

Franklin loved to skateboard and went to see if his friend Fox wanted to join him. Fox said that he would be spending time with his dad because it was his “Day with Dad” day. “What’s that?” Franklin asked. “It’s where I get to do special stuff with my day all day,” said Fox. Franklin wanted to have that same kind of day with his own Dad. Franklin’s Dad said that it sounded like a fun day, but first he needed to go to Mr. Mole’s store and get another rain barrel because the one they had had burst apart. After the store, there was yet another item that needed his Dad’s attention. It wasn’t long before the entire day was almost over and Franklin and his Dad spent every minute helping other people, not enjoying a special day doing fun things together. When Franklin saw Fox a little later on, Fox asked how the special day was going. Franklin replied that it hadn’t started yet, but would “once my dad finishes helping everyone.” Fox replied, “It doesn’t matter what we do, as long as we’re together.” Franklin then realized that he HAD been having a special day with his own Dad, he just didn’t realize it!

I loved Franklin when I was a kid! And now, my kids love him too. Franklin's Day with Dad is a tie in to one of the Franklin TV episodes. In the story, Franklin wants to spend a day hanging out with his dad, doing all sorts of fun things. Franklin gets frustrated when his plans keep getting put on hold as he and his dad help out their neighbors with various projects. Finally, Franklin realizes that even though he didn't get to fly his kite or go fishing with his dad, they spent the entire day together and that is what really mattered.
I don't always like these TV tie-in books. In general they tend to be generic, preachy, and long, but this one was pretty good. It wasn't too lengthy and it had a nice message to it. It was a good reminder that quality time together can happen almost anytime. The important thing is to spend time together, no matter what you are doing.
The illustrations are not the watercolor paintings that the old Franklin books used to have, but have been digitally rendered instead. While I prefer the watercolor art, these new illustrations manage to maintain the general look and feel of the old Franklin books.

Franklin's Day With Dad
Franklin wants to spend a day hanging out with just his dad. He had lots of plans of all the fun things they can do but plans never work out the way we want. Franklin learned that he is spending time with his dad no matter what they do, even if that means helping other people, rather than fishing or playing.
This book has some great life skills that all children need to learn. Helping other people is very important, you do not have to be playing with your parents to be spending quality time with them, ect. I did not let Max read this book since he does not have a dad and that is a sensitive subject for him but I did want to read it for myself. As a teacher, I am always looking for books on specific themes. I can use this book in the classroom for Father's Day and for themes about helping other people! Perfect! I enjoyed it alot!
This book is a typical Franklin book. You see a few of the popular characters and all the bright and fun colors you expect from this series!

Franklin is a perennial favorite in my library, so I know we'll be adding this title to our collection. Franklin hears about his friend Fox's "Day with Dad" and decides that he wants to have a special day with his own father. He plans bumpy buggies, kite flying, and fishing. When the two of them keep being asked to help friends and family with tasks, Franklin is sure the Day with Dad will never happen. As usual in a Franklin story, he learns an important lesson (and still fits in some fun with his dad).
I know that one of the reasons for Franklin's success is the TV show that many kids have seen. But the vibrant colors used in the illustrations help capture the attention of younger readers in the same way the animated show does. It's nice to see a story where fathers are taking the time to share activities with their children, whether it's fishing or helping a neighbor repair a leaky roof. Positive role models and family relationships are an important thing for young readers to see.

I grew up with Franklin. Maybe I am old school, as I prefer the old drawings to the cg ones, and the standard opening about Franklin counting by twos and tieing his shoes. That being said I am glad that this book still taught a lesson like the old ones did, in this case that it doesn't matter what Franklin and his dad were doing, so long as it was together. I do like Aunt T though, so seeing her was a pleasant surprise.
However, the book was a total hit with the target audience...my 3 year old son. He was excited from the moment we opened the package and has asked to read it a few times already. He liked the pictures and listed off the characters, and has since had an afternoon of just Dex and daddy time thannks to the book and him bugging daddy ;). If your little ones like Franklin, this book is probably a safe bet. Overall, Dex liked it and it was a positive learning experince with a valuable lesson. 3.5 stars

Don’t you just love Franklin books? If you haven’t yet met this young turtle, trust me, your child (and you) will love him. The illustrations in this book are absolutely beautiful, they are big, colorful, and really enhance the happy mood of the story.
The theme of this story is absolutely perfect for young children. So often it seems that children have one idea in there head of how things need to go, and it is hard for them to realize that, with the right attitude, any activity can be pleasurable. Quality time together is the focus here, and helping friends is rewarded both extrinsically and intrinsically.
My four-year-old daughter loved this story (we had to read it three times in the first day!), and she has already started asking for her very own “day with dad.”

This book shows how great it can be to be distracted by helping others and cherishing the time we have with one another despite what we thought we wanted to do.
It was in perfect accord with the spirit of Franklin, and I quite enjoyed it.
I rated this book 5/5 stars and highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed reading this with my 5 year old daughter. It was a short and sweet story about Franklin's day with his dad. There is a nice moral to the story - that any time spent together can be quality time. The story was well written and the illustrations were nice and colorful.
I would recommend this story to other families, especially those that enjoy the Franklin television show.

Franklin's Day with Dad was such a treat! It taught many valuable lessons, but the two most prominent ones, in my opinion, dealt with selfless compassion and unconditional love.
This Franklin book was more mature in terms of what Franklin had to deal with. I loved that he had to delve into self-examination. I also really liked how both he and his dad came to a point where they understood the value of quality time and how it may look different than what they might have expected.
Great story!

Franklin's Day With Dad is a delightful children's book. Lot's of bright colored illustrations will help to hold the young child's attention.
This story does a good job of showing that what kids really want is to spend time with their parents. The fun and good memories can be made doing all the things that have to be done. Young Franklin starts out with quite a list, in the end he realizes that anything he and his dad do is special.

I've always loved Franklin books; I even have a puppet somewhere! Anyway, Franklin's Day With Dad didn't disappoint. It is a very sweet story that teaches children that it doesn't matter WHAT you do, it is the time together that counts!
