BRIANNE AND SLOAN FACE THEIR PURSUERS AND RIDE TO A LONG-AWAITED CONFRONTATION WITH WES McCORD. BUT WILL THEIR REVENGE BE SWEET...
OR DEADLY?

Wes McCord had charmed, cheated and lied his way through life, and nothing but blackmail would have drawn fragile, beautiful Anna Nilsen into his arms -- and into his bed. She fought him, rebelled against her own furious longing for this unprincipled empire builder but the treacherous ecstasy he taught her was unbearably exciting. She was silk and heat, he was thunder and lightning in this stormiest of passions, but when their bodies cooled, Wes was shocked to recognize his own surrender to a primal hunger Anna had awakened in him. Ravished in a moonlit forest by a destroyer who'd never known gentleness, Anna felt the seed of unexpected love blossoming within her. She doubted Wes would ever share her feelings. He was not a good man or a safe man, but he was hers -- and once he'd branded her flesh with the flames of his desire, could this impossible love endure the sunlight of all the days to come?

"Silken Thunder" is the end to Sloan and Brianna's tale, as well as Wes and Anna.
When we last left, the rivalry between Sloan and Wes had left the former to be shot by Dan, and Sloan was left almost mortally wounded with Brianna on his lookout.
We find Brianna saving a delirious Sloan and saving his life, her finding Patrick and finally a HEA between the two after much angst and struggles. We also finally have resolution between Kam and the missionaries, Phineas and his venomous tonic, and Henrietta and her husband.
The second story is between Wes and Anna, whom we know is the daughter of the dressmaker. We know from the previous books that they have been copulating in the dark, but when she misses her monthly flux after a night of brutal passion, things start to change..
Loads of angst and revelations in this one- Im glad Wes finally found peace in Anna but again tragedy befalls them when things were finally starting to come around. I wish we had seen more of the repentance/groveling from Wes instead of OTT gestures.
I really want to ask the authors what is up with all the men in this series pussyfooting and running away from the women?!
Another group of letters between the characters of the first books finish this saga.

P.S. Love the old school cover. Does silken thunder refer to her thighs? I wonder..

This follows the story of two couples really. We finally get the conclusion to Brianne and Sloan's story, as Brianne continues to nurse Sloan back to health, get him back to civilization and learn that he deceived her about (or at least omitted) his knowledge of her brother's whereabouts and wellbeing. Unsurprisingly, that gets wrapped up pretty quickly since Brianne is too in love with him to stay mad at him and the focus of this story is mostly on Wes and Anna. Wes is the "villain" of the previous story that Sloan wants revenge with. It's established pretty early on that he's an asshole who grew up going after what he wants without any regard for who gets hurt. That's how Anna gets involved. He saw her and blackmailed her into sleeping with him...which is why Anna hates him...but she does enjoy the physical aspect of their relationship, which gives her even more reason to hate him. She finds out she's preggers, as does Wes, and thus begins his rise to decency. He starts to realize, pretty gradually, just how he's hurt Anna and others with his actions.

And yet, even until the crucial moment, he's still a pretty cold and ruthless guy. I did like that, in the end, he's determined to start out again and to it right this time. It's unfortunate that I didn't feel like Anna had any good reason for sticking by him. She was a bit too doormat for me through this. Don't get me wrong, the angst and tension between Wes and Anna is off the charts awesome, but she looked past years of blackmail and basically being raped, all the dastardly things he'd done in the name of ambition and she just forgave him without making him really work for it. And she was totally ready to accept a life with him without the love she wanted. That felt wrong to me. For that matter, Brianne was of a similar character, just forgiving Sloan without making him work for it or even admit to the error of his ways. I was also pretty disappointed that there wasn't any closure for Anna regarding her father, even so much as an epilogue telling us what had happened there (maybe that despite his efforts, Anna chose never to forgive him?). None of the stories in this series had epilogues about the main characters (only about present-day Delaneys) which was kind of disappointing. Great story for the angst factor, not so much for strong heroines with back-bone.
