Award-winning USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brighton Walsh spent nearly a decade as a professional photographer before taking her storytelling in a different direction and reconnecting with her first love: writing. When she’s not lost in her own made up worlds, she’s probably either reading or shopping—maybe even both at once. She lives in the Midwest with her real life hero of a husband, her two kids—both taller than her—and her dog who thinks she’s a queen. Her boy-filled house is the setting for dirty socks galore, frequent dance parties (okay, so it's mostly her, by herself, while her children look on in horror), and more laughter than she thought possible. A fabulous short story! Brighton Walsh has packed an abundance of feel good reading into this second chance romance. It’s steamy, very well written, with a hero that’s sinfully sexy, and a heroine I loved.

Claire and Logan’s relationship fell apart two years earlier. Neither has moved on and now Claire finds herself stranded in Chicago. A chance meeting with the one man she hopes to avoid brings her face to face with her ex and soon he’s whisking her back to their old apartment. Their chemistry is off the charts and after a few glasses of wine; these two are burning the sheets.

Surrounded by memories as well as once again being with Logan and his young daughter has Claire tentatively believing they could try again. She loves this man, she always will, but he broke her heart and she’s worried history could repeat itself. Sometimes love just isn’t enough.

Logan has never stopped loving Claire. Being together again clarifies how much he’s missed her along with the mistakes he made. He’s determined to prove to Claire he’s changed if only she’ll give him another chance.

A raging snow storm is the setting for this very believable romance. I loved it, recommend it and I’m looking forward to more by this author.

Wow this was an excellent novella and did a really good job of doing a lot in a few words. This is a second chance at love story, where the h/H used to be engaged but haven't seen each other in two years when the heroine fed-up of being set aside for the hero's work broke it off. When a storm strands her at the airport where she runs into the hero and goes back the house that used to be theirs, a lot comes to the surface. There is a mention of heroine casually dating (not sure if that meant sex) and the hero's date that his daughter sabotages. The book showed that the h/H didn't have an absence of love but the hero really didn't see what mattered in life. It actually takes the heroine's sister to make the hero see what he needed to do to keep the heroine in his life. I liked the author's writing style and will definitely read more by her.

When I sat down to read Season of Second Chances by Brighton Walsh, I expected to enjoy it. Mostly because I love the author and her words, but also because we’re approaching the holidays, and from the description, it sounded like the perfect book to curl up with.

Well, it was.

And I loved it.

We meet Claire on Christmas Eve. She’s stranded in the airport in Chicago, trying to make it to her sister’s house for Christmas. But the snow is pouring, and all flights have been cancelled. This sucks for her. Under normal circumstances, this would suck for anyone. However, we learn that Claire needs to get the hell out of Chicago for other reasons – reasons far more pressing and personal than wanting to trim a tree with her family.

And that reason is Logan.

Logan…hnnnnggg. (More on him later.)

We find out that Claire actually used to live in Chicago, that she had a whole life there. A life filled with a man whom she loved, his daughter, and the promise of a future with a family she adored. Unfortunately for Claire, she always felt like she came in second place to Logan’s job. And for that reason, two years ago, she made the decision to walk away.

But she’s never forgotten him.

And beyond that – she still loves him.

Damn, I adore a good love story about reconnection. And when Logan happens upon the put-out Claire and offers her a place to stay to ride out the storm, it becomes clear that that’s where this story is headed.
Logan – by the way – is my actual dream man. I know I love to read about various different men with different traits and personalities. But what I fantasize about and what I actually want are, in reality, very different. He’s someone who has his shit together, he has a career, a home, and a daughter who he loves and cares for. Oh, and he’s hot…and swoony…and hot. (Please to be seeing what I will now refer to as the “sweater scene” because from now on, I will always be turned on by a man who fills out a sweater stretched across his chest and stomach muscles. Thank you very much for that visual, Brighton.)

These two definitely have a lot to work through – their past, their lingering feelings, and their palpable chemistry that jumps from the page. And if you know this author, you know she brings the swoons and the heat. And did I mention the Daddy swoons? Because that’s another thing that just killed me dead in this story. Because Logan’s daughter, Sophie, made me want a stepchild of my very own. (And I don’t even really like kids.)

This story is like a Peppermint Mocha on a cold night - rich and decadent and sweet. And steaming hot. It’s the perfect treat to curl up with. And fans of contemporary romance will adore it…just like I did. So, now I’ll be trolling airports looking for hot single dads. Thank you for that, Brighton.

Wonderful.

5 stars.

Ya’ll, it’s no secret if you know me that I’m a huge fan of Brighton’s. I have been for years. My fangirl for her is strong. I've loved everything she's written and I can't stress enough how much you're missing out if you haven't picked up one of her lovely stories yet!! You should give Plus One a shot right now now (seriously, right now), and later this week (Thursday *cough*), make sure you pick up this new Christmasy goodness, Season of Second Chances! It's the perfect short little sweet story you'll want to curl up with and enjoy while sipping hot chocolate and staying inside to avoid the cold weather!

Because this one definitely has the ability to warm you up. ;)

In Season of Second Chances, you'll meet Claire, who's just trying to get to her family in Colorado for the holidays. Unfortunately for her, an epic snowstorm has hit Chicago and she's stranded in the place where memories of a lost love are everywhere. After discovering she's not going to make it to her family on Christmas Eve, the last person she ever expects to come face to face with is that same man who broke her heart two years before, Logan Dawes. The workaholic overahiever with whom she didn't have the best of breakups.

Once Claire realizes that finding a hotel will be close to impossible, she decides to accept Logan's offer of a place to stay. And it's not long before she begins to realize that the man she lost two years ago has changed. What was once their shared condo is different; it's lived in. Not at all the picture of order it once was. She also begins to see that he's changed, too.

And that maybe she still has a major soft spot for him inside her heart...

And I mean really, who could blame her? Because Logan...sigh. I loved him. I loved them both, really. The chemistry, their dynamic...just everything. Plus, did I mention he's a daddy? To an adorable little girl who he's completely whipped by? Yep. Just the way a man should be. Reading them together had my swoonometer going off the charts.

So yes, once again, Brighton has done it right. If you want something sweet and sexy that will tug at your heartstrings, but leave you with a smile on your face in the end, you absolutely do not want to miss out on this story!

Second chance romances one of my top five story-lines in contemporary romances, I was looking forward to seeing how Claire and Logan dealt with the issues that separated them previously. How they would be able to forge a future from the remains of their past.

From their first meeting it's clear that the chemistry between the two of them is off the charts high. The sparks practically fly off of each other when Claire ends up at Logan's condo in the middle of a snowstorm that strands her in Chicago.

I really easily identified with both Claire and Logan - their feelings as they navigated through the feelings they're still dealing with. It felt so incredibly real, so understandable. Claire, hurt and determined not to let herself fall into it again; Logan regretting the decisions he'd made, wishing he could take them back and not lose the best thing that had ever happened to him. And then there were the little things: Claire thinking how much she missed the simple touches, when Logan finally apologizes it touched my heart with how sincere it was - how utterly unstoppable. This was doubly impressive considering this was a novella of only about 70 pages.

My only complaint is that the whole time they're falling in love, again, the issue that broke them up in the first place was never even a concern. The snowstorm discarded the possibility of it being a problem, and so they were stuck in a fairy-tale like situation where real life didn't intrude. Thus by the time they did have to deal with the reality of it, the only way to resolve it was through a grand gesture - which I'm just not a fan of. I'm never sure that the grand gesture translates into a life-long change, so I really, really appreciated the epilogue here. It cemented my surety in their happily-ever-after and simply made me happy for both Claire and Logan that they found a way to make it work - no matter how difficult it may have been.

Season of Second Chances is an incredibly sweet, sexy, real romance that touched my heart and made me sigh with happiness. This is the first thing I've read by Brighton Walsh, but I've already added some of her other books to my wishlist.

Season of Second Chances features a cute second chance romance set at Christmas.

Claire Hanlin hopes to get in and out of Chicago as quickly as possible as it reminds her too much of the man she almost married two years ago. But when a snowstorm strands Claire there on Christmas Eve, she unexpectedly finds herself staying with the man she left behind. Logan Dawes never got over Claire and her staying with him is the perfect opportunity to win her back. It doesn't take long for the pair to fall back into bed, but can Claire trust that Logan has really changed?

Claire and Logan were engaged two years ago before Claire ended things due to Logan's inability to prioritize anything over his work. I just want to comment that I liked that the couple broke up for an actual reason as opposed to some second chance romances I've read where they break up for seemingly no reason. The pair reconnect after they both have flights cancelled out of Chicago and Logan spots Claire in the airport as she unsuccessfully searches for a hotel. I liked the immediate connection between them despite the awkwardness of their broken engagement. Their chemistry is amazing and for such a short story, there were quite a few steamy scenes that were very well done. Initially the issues they had in the past get in the way of rekindling a relationship, which did make me frustrated with Logan, but I was happy with the way they resolved everything in the end.

Overall Season of Second Chances was a great read that's perfect for the holiday season.

This was lovely! Sometimes short and sweet are exactly what I need - and a healthy dose of sexy doesn't hurt either.

Claire and Logan broke off their engagement two years ago after he let her down at a time when she needed him the most. He put his work ahead of her again and again. Despite the time and distance, when the two reconnect unexpectedly it's obvious the chemistry is still very much alive between them. And the love.
But she didn't know how to give anything less than everything when it came to him.

As Logan works to regain Claire's trust and have a second chance with her, Claire slowly lets down her walls, believing Logan is not the workaholic he used to be. The ending... *swoon*... the ending, when he proves this to be true, is a-dor-a-ble.

If you're looking for a holiday romance with a swoon-worthy hero (BIG TIME), a novella that, despite its page length, packs an emotional punch, a couple you grow to love and genuinely root for, look no further! Grab a blanket and snuggle up to read Season of Second Chances.

I would have rated this higher for the first half...but then it was suddenly a bit well.. meh
I liked the chemistry between the MCs, I even enjoyed the smut. (I really did!! *SHOCK!!!*)
I absolutely loved how they ended up being thrown together again.
But I while I got the reasons the broke up. I found Claire quite bitchy and unreasonable, when she got upset. I mean, dude!, I get her - I am married to a workaholic- and sometimes I wanna choke him. But I believe there is a middle path and any successful relationship means to find that middle path. In my opinion a good relationship is a give and take, a continual re-negotiation of said middle path. Logan from being rather bossy and alpha goes to the total opposite, which put me off. I don't get why he had to sacrifice everything.
How about finding a solution together? Cause that works- trust me. And I did like mr. alpha way better than mr. let-me-do-whatever-you-want.
Well, don't like how Logan changed- it was too much IMO- but the smut makes this definitely read-worthy.

Okay it's Christmas and this year I really want to read fluffy and romantic stories and then I found a Harlequin Christmas Special bundle and omg it's just perfect.

This was a really cute story. Seeing as it's +/- a 100 pages long there is not much to tell. The characters were okay. I liked Claire and Logan, because they respect each other. The romance was perfect. I love these kind of stories (don't judge me). And ah. The ending.

Of course it's not a masterpiece but who cares. It's Harlequin. It's cute, light and sugar sweet.

Are you looking for a sweet, definitely sexy and absolutely wonderful holiday read?

You need to pick up this Novella by Brighton Walsh.

In Season of Second chances we meet Claire and Logan... exes who went their separate ways several years ago. Claire finds herself stranded in the airport and Logan just happens to come to her rescue offering her a place to wait out the storm... and spend her birthday.

Despite being apart for two years, their chemistry certainly hasn't diminished and spending time in the place they once called home together reminds Claire of all the reasons they worked ... but also all the reasons they didn't.

If you guys have read other stuff from Walsh, you know she can create a swoony guy... Logan is no exception to that. Do hot, single dads make you swoon? Because Logan has a 7 year old daughter and the interactions we see between them will have you swooning just as much as Claire was.

And despite what I felt was an over-reaction on Claire's part at one point, you can't help but identify with her and the way she feels about Logan. Does she love him? yes... but sometimes loving someone isn't enough to make a relationship work and that is the call she had to make years ago and the issue arises again, just when she thinks they will be able to make things work.

Realistic characters, a love story that will have you fanning yourself on one page and swooning over sweet stuff on the next, and excellent writing is what is in store for you when you pick up The Season of Second Chances! Get this one as soon as you can! It's the perfect holiday read!

So many happy feels after reading Season of Second Chances.

I truly loved this story, Logan will make your heart skip a beat.
Logan has such a way with words, he sure knows how to make a woman feel special and wanted, swoon...

The chemistry between Claire and Logan is off the charts. I could feel their strong connection from the first moment they see each other.

For a novella Brighton Walsh does such a great job of making the reader understand what they've been through in the past and how they feel in the present. I was very impressed with how much story we get without having to go into huge detail.

This story had it all, lot's of heartfelt moments, hot sexy times and an adorable little girl who has her daddy wrapped around her little finger.

I love second chance love stories and Season of Second Chances is up there with my favourites :)

Thank you Brighton Walsh for writing this sweet and heartwarming story, once again you made my heart smile with your beautiful words <3

Thank you NetGalley and Carina Press for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I have a confession. I've been waiting to read this guystory for a loonnngggg time. I've enjoyed Brighton Walsh's work for years, and let me tell you--the girl can write some super hot smut. She's not about PWP, though, and always has a compelling story to go with her sexy characters. So, I was already excited about this story before I really knew much about it. And ever since Walsh sent me her picspiration on twitter, well, let's just say I was super excited:
Logan Dawes Brighton Walsh Holy Hell

I know, I know. You want to stop reading this review and dive right into reading Season of Second Chances rtfn, right? I don't blame you. So go ahead.

Still here? Now I'll tell you why you shouldn't be (and why you should be reading the book instead).

I love reunion stories. I love that we can experience all the feelings that the characters go through without questioning why they're jumping into a relationship (even if it's just a physical one) so quickly. Even if we as readers don't know the characters very well yet, we know that they know each other and lived through whatever their history was, and that familiarity gives them liberties that strangers don't get.

Thirty-year old Claire Hanlin finds herself stranded at an airport in the city that she least wants to be in on Christmas Eve. Her search for an available hotel room is interrupted by her ex-fiancé, Logan Dawes. Claire goes through a myriad of emotions at seeing him and hearing his voice again.
His sea-glass eyes were boring into hers, the same heavy, intense stare she'd noticed when they'd met more than four years ago. And when she looked into them now, it was like no time had passed. Like they hadn't broken an engagement, hadn't been separated for two years, hadn't lived through the heartache of ending the best relationship either of them had ever had.

Logan insists that she come stay with him until the storm passes and she can get another flight. She reluctantly agrees, and you know what happens. Chemistry! Flails! Holy hotness, Batman!

Of course, with every good story, there's a dilemma, and Claire's is that even though it's hard to resist Logan's charms and the way he always made her feel, she can't help but forget how she felt when Logan constantly chose his job over her when they were together. Logan realizes that he made the biggest mistake of his life when he let her go the first time, but can he do what it takes to get a second chance with her?

Read it and find out!

You know I loved pretty much everything about this story. Obviously, my favorite part was Logan. This guy is hotness personified. Dark hair, light green eyes, sexy muscles. And he's a doting dad to a seven-year old girl who has him wrapped around his finger. *swoonysigh* He's sweet and determined, and he's hot as hell.
Her argument died in her throat when his tongue traced her pulse point and then his teeth bit into the juncture of her shoulder and neck and the scruff on his face brushed against her delicate skin, and oh God, he didn't play fair. "Logan."

He groaned, his hands covering the expanse of her lower back, his chest now pressed right up against her so she could feel the vibrations of his voice against her breasts. "Jesus, I've missed you saying my name like that."

I really liked Claire, too, and that sort of surprised me. It's not often that I actually love the heroine, but this time, I did. I was proud of her for standing up for herself and understood her. The perfect combination of kick-ass and vulnerable, she was a great character, and I'm sad that I won't get more of these two.

There were very few things that I didn't love, and I can honestly say both of those were totally because I'm a long-time reader of Walsh's work. I'm weird, I know, but I just didn't like Claire's name. And there are a few words that I was surprised that Walsh used. With that being said, who really cares about her name? Not me, and not you, either, once you start reading this fantastic story.

Want one more thing that I loved? This novella is short (less than 100 pages), and I can't even tell you how many times I have "perfect description" in my notes. Walsh portrays her characters' emotions with such authenticity, I felt like I was right there, feeling all the feelings with them.
The low, smooth rumble of his voice still managed to send chills down her spine, firing all the synapses in her body at once. She remembered that voice. How it washed over her like the rain when he was breathless and happy. How it crashed into her like a tidal wave when he was angry and frustrated. How it settled right into her bones when he whispered into her ear while aroused and overcome with need.

::flails:: There are several other instances, and the whole story is pretty damn close to perfect. Readers will share Claire's utter heartbreak as she contemplates the demise of her relationship with Logan, will experience the longing that Logan still feels for what might have been, and will feel their passion as they appreciate this second chance that fate has handed them.

It's the best holiday-pick-me-up if you need one, but whether you're looking for something to read to keep you warm in the winter, or if it's in the middle of the sweltering dog-days of summer, Season of Second Chances is the story for you. I can't express how much I enjoyed it--it's a must read!

Claire is stranded in Chicago due to a snowstorm on Christmas….on her birthday. Ever since she got to town, she has wanted to leave. Not because she has anything against the city but because it holds a lot of memories. Things she really doesn't want to remember. Claire is pretty sure things couldn't get any worse and as she is trying to figure out what to do, her past walks right up to her and says hi.

Logan is having a rough day. After getting a call that requires him to head out to a project and then having his flight get cancelled, all he wants is to make it home. To his surprise, he notices Claire and knows he should leave her alone but finds himself walking right up to her.

Logan ends up inviting Claire to stay with him until she can get home and this begins the rest of the story. These two characters still clearly love each other and regret the way things ended but they have been apart for two years. Things start out awkward and eventually they begin to see in each other just how much they still care and why they loved each other to begin with. They are also able to see just why they haven’t been able to get past it.

Claire wants to take a chance but remembers how much it hurt every time Logan would choose his work over her and that is something she isn't really sure she could handle again. She definitely sees some changes in him, especially around his daughter, Sophia. Logan lets her paint his nails and she has put her stamp on the condo. All things that never would have happened two years ago when she left.

Through the rest of the story, both Claire and Logan come to realize what they want and what is really important to them. They also have to determine what they will and won’t do to be happy. Walsh does something in this story that isn't always easy. She is able to bring the reader into the lives of these characters and over a fairly short period of time, gets you to care about what happens to them. I loved reading from both perspectives as it allowed me to see just how much the break up impacted them both as they came back together.

If you are looking for a quick holiday read, definitely check this one out. Logan definitely falls into the “hot, single dad” category and you don’t want to miss out! Another great story by Brighton Walsh!

Story could have been cute and I actually did skim to find out what happened, but it lost me at the point where he had sex with her even though he knew she was drunk. I mean, he literally says "You're drunk.". And then when she argued she wasn't (as drunk people often do) he listed every way he knew she was and THEN proceeded to have sex with her.

Started skimming at that point. A few scenes later he says they're adults, they can share a bed without having sex and "I promise I'll be a complete gentleman.". At which point I stormed over to my husband, read the dialogue out loud and then yelled "HE HAD SEX WITH HER WHEN SHE WAS DRUNK. THE COMPLETE GENTLEMAN BOAT HAS SAILED.".

Ugh. Drunk sex is fine if you both are ok with that and discuss it *while not drunk*, but this is a woman who dumped him 2 years ago and made it clear (when she was sober!) that she was only in his apartment because she didn't want to sleep in an airport during a snowstorm. Come on.

Add that to how forceful the guy was (kept insisting on things and "won't take no for an answer" - our heroine of course found that sexy) and the fact that they never really talked about what went wrong in their past relationship during the days she's stranded at his apartment (he says "I'm sorry" during sex when he's thinking of how he screwed things up, but they don't have an actual conversation!) and man, this was not the story for me.

In the end they do talk and honestly, if this story had not had any sex in it, it would have been sweet and enjoyable. I liked the writing too, so I'm going to check out another one of hers and cross my fingers the guy is better. Because taking physical advantage of an ex who's not only stranded because of a snow storm but is also drunk? Guess we have different definitions of "romance".

That was cute. I love second chance romances, especially if that includes the holidays and being snowed in together. I liked Logan and Claire. For a novella-length book, it felt like they were fully developed characters. It was definitely formulaic but sweet for the holiday. It happened on Christmas Eve/ Christmas but wasn't focused on that as much as I always hope ;)

I really liked the Chicago setting and second-chance romances are always one of my favorite type of storylines. However, the hero in this book felt like a copy of Jason in Tessa Ever After and I've never been a big fan of kids in books. All in all, a fun, short holiday read that will probably quickly be forgotten.

Christina and Ana's Review:

A joint actual rating of 4.5 stars!

**SPECIAL NOTE:** An eARC of this novella was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. However, that did not influence this review in any way. All thoughts, quotes, and opinions will be of this version and not of the published edition.

The Lowdown: Claire Hanlin hasn’t been back to Chicago in over two years and for good reason. It houses too many memories, a majority of them pleasant and others not so much, from a time that she was mostly happy and planning a future with a good man and his young daughter. But like any relationship, it didn’t come without its bumps in the road. When Claire had needed Logan the most, he hadn’t been there and it ultimately brought about the breaking of their engagement.

When a business trip that was supposed to have her in and out of the city before she could bat an eyelash leads to her being trapped there because of a snow storm, a chance encounter at the airport lands her face-to-face with the man that she’s tried to make her heart forget. With no hotel vacancies in the area, Claire reluctantly accepts Logan’s invitation to stay at the home they once shared together until the storm passes.

Claire’s heart stutter-steps its way through the next few days, spurred on by the longing of what could have been with all the reminders of her previous life with him surrounding her. Logan isn’t making it easier on her either. He’s not one to look a gift-horse in the mouth and turn away. He sees this opportunity for what it is, a second chance, and he’ll be damned if he lets Claire walk out of his life for a second time.

Christina: 5 stars from me! First, I would like to just take a moment to appreciate Brighton’s picspiration for Logan “Hot Single Dad” Dawes.

*appreciating…appreciating…still appreciating…still appreci–* Ahem. So, he’s pretty, right? If you’d like to see other pics that inspired her while she was writing this novella, you can find those on her HSD Pinterest Board here .

I was a pre-reader for this story, so admittedly, I have a strong connection to this novella and its characters; however, it is my complete, unbiased opinion that this is one of the best novellas that I’ve ever had the great pleasure of reading. Brighton Walsh definitely knows how to entice her readers with witty dialogue, emotional writing, vivid imagery, and exceptional characters development, even in a limited number of pages. It was easy to see how Claire never fell out of love with Logan and how being around him only made her yearn for the life that should have been hers all along. Logan was headstrong and determined in his career life, but easily swaps those traits for swoony, attentive, and passionate when it comes to interacting with Claire and his daughter. Not going to lie, my heart pitterpatted uncontrollably during all the scenes that we’re given with him and his adorable seven-year-old, Sophie.

Speaking of swoons, here’s a little excerpt to pique your interest further:

Despite his promises of no inappropriateness, he still pulled her to him, tucking his knees behind hers, her back to his chest. With his hand spread wide across her stomach, he whispered in her ear, “Just want to hold you.”
–quote taken from my eARC of Season of Second Chances, pg. 58

My only issue with this book is that I didn’t want it to end. With an epilogue that perfectly suited the conclusion to Claire and Logan’s tale, make sure you check out Season of Second Chances to bring a little seasonal joy to your life as it inspires you to believe in the possibility of second chances and an everlasting love.

Ana: 4 stars! This was a sweet and sexy, quick read. It’s a story that begs the reader to grab their favorite beverage and a cozy blanket, dive right in and forget about the world for a couple of hours. Of course, as a novella, it’s over way too soon! The characters are well written and even in such a short number of pages, I grew to love them… especially Logan. After all, what’s not to love about a hot single Dad?!? The plot of the story is not earth shattering, you’ve probably read something similar before. But that will definitely not curb your enjoyment…it didn’t for me anyway. The writing is smooth and the story packs an emotional punch. It’s all there…confusion, happiness, sadness, anger, love and lust and the reader is treated to it in a steady stream. This is a perfect read over the busy holiday season…it’s short and fun…I think you’ll enjoy it.

A very special thanks to Brighton Walsh for allowing us to preview an early copy of her novella in exchange for an honest review.

El primer capítulo me gustó mucho pero el resto me pareció bastante aburrido, por eso a pesar de que es un libro corto me llevó varios días poder terminarlo.

I loved that this explored a past relationship instead of a new one. This book was super hyped for me so I was a little underwhelmed but I really enjoyed this one.
