3.5/5 - FINALLY, the interhigh has come to an end! I love sports manga but no way am I a connoisseur when it comes to it, however, so far, bicycle racing has been the most intense sport I've read about especially considering that these are just highschool students!
The interhigh spans 3 days but manga-wise, it spanned over 15o chapters, lol! That number is actually pretty average compared to other sports series but this is bike racing where all participants race in one go. It's not a competition where a team goes one-on-one with another team in a single elimination way like in basketball, volleyball or baseball. That said, if you think about it, Yowamushi Pedal has one heck of a dragging story. I felt like I was still in chapter 50's, but I was actually already approaching 200's and that's because there's rarely any remarkable event in each chapters.
Looking back, this has so many internal monologues and flashbacks, most aren't even necessary.
YowaPeda has been in my TBR for a couple of years, but I'm glad that I only read this now when the interhigh has already ended because like I said, this has a really slow plot and I probably would've dropped it out of frustration because the interhigh takes so long to finish.
I don't think I'll continue on with the series right now after volume 27. I think I'll wait another 2 or 3 years before reading again, or at least if I resume reading now, I'll stop at the beginning of the next competition. I don't think I can handle waiting weekly to read uneventful chapters.
