Superman...dead? What is the secret behind the Daily Planet's ominous headline from the future? And what does Clark Kent have to say about it? All the pieces of Lex Luthor's master plan to kill Superman begin to come together, building up to the big bang next issue!
Grant Morrison has been working with DC Comics for twenty five years, after beginning their American comics career with acclaimed runs on ANIMAL MAN and DOOM PATROL. Since then they have written such best-selling series as JLA, BATMAN and New X-Men, as well as such creator-owned works as THE INVISIBLES, SEAGUY, THE FILTH, WE3 and JOE THE BARBARIAN. In addition to expanding the DC Universe through titles ranging from the Eisner Award-winning SEVEN SOLDIERS and ALL-STAR SUPERMAN to the reality-shattering epic of FINAL CRISIS, they have also reinvented the worlds of the Dark Knight Detective in BATMAN AND ROBIN and BATMAN, INCORPORATED and the Man of Steel in The New 52 ACTION COMICS.
In their secret identity, Morrison is a "counterculture" spokesperson, a musician, an award-winning playwright and a chaos magician. They are also the author of the New York Times bestseller Supergods, a groundbreaking psycho-historic mapping of the superhero as a cultural organism. They divide their time between their homes in Los Angeles and Scotland.
Whole lot of setup for the last volume but after the high of the last volume it felt lacking. Let's find out how it ends and then keep on reading.
I have always loved comics, and I have I can. I love comics to bits, may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and hope always to love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I just want to Keep on Reading.
Issue #11 Godhood means nothing without compassion. Luthor finally gets what he wants: Superman’s power. But he still doesn’t understand it. While Luthor rants about domination, Superman still fights to save — despite dying. It's a contrast between ego and selflessness, brilliance and blindness.
The setup for the final issue as expected has a lot happening, all of it interesting but at the end of the day it felt like it lacked some weight at times. The sun-eating plant, while constantly mentioned since issue 2 didn't really have a character, so its sacrifice comes up as just another event to add drama to an already dramatic moment. Lex having powers happens almost out of nowhere and I wish to have seen more development of his escape, but once again his ego is fun to read about. Other characters outside of Superman don't seem too invested or affected by the events of the issue, so the sense of urgency and how much it matters is strongly diminished. What saves this from being the first bad All-Star Superman issue is Superman himself and his struggle, his reflections and actions in the issue. The artwork by Quitely and coloring by Grant continues to amaze and inject lots of gravitas which the writing couldn't do this time around, but it's there in a way. And the whole sequence of events certainly fits for an epilogue to the end, so it's still a high quality comic, just not as good as some of the previous issues, specially the fantastic 10th issue.
We start this day with an execution, Luthor’s time on death row has come to an end. It’s time for his final meal and cocktail before they zap him to death, and they are not wasting any time. Except as everyone gets ready to leave his steaming corpse…Lex wakes up. That cocktail that allowed him to drink wasn’t just any cocktail, but a special formula that just granted him super powers for 24 hours! Welcome to the new society Lex had been talking about! It’s time for a prison break!
Meanwhile Superman is completely unaware of these actions, spending his last fleeting moments making final preparations. Cleaning up the pit where the sun eater once resided and ordering his robots on all their tasks. Using the information he received from the message from the future, he is finally ready to face his next challenge.
As Superman meets up with his favorite niece, Nasthalthia, he lets her have whatever super world ending equipment she desires…he doesn’t need any of it with his current powers. But even so he would be crazy to face Superman head on…but that’s okay, because he still has friends in very high places. Namely the solar system, as Solaris the tyrant sun has finally come for Superman and now basks the entire world in red solar energy. But Superman’s message from the future has prepared him for this, and now equipped with a fully white suit to reflect the solar energy…he can take Solaris on directly. But he won’t be alone, all of the robots, except one to stay back and mind the fortress, stand by his side ready to aid him in this fight. Superman is able to use his new powers and new suit to get close to the robotic sun. As it turns out one robot in particular, 7, is more keen on helping Superman rip the Sun apart as it feels like it failed Superman. It turns o it the sun, and Luthor, hacked into its systems to steal a formula. Which explains how Luthor was able to make that super cocktail. Superman was able to get pretty far, ripping the Sun open at one of its spikes before his robot compatriots finally went down. But then something miraculous happened as Superman was then joined and aided by his per Sun eater! Unfortunately in a tragic turn of events, Solaris is able to destroy the sun eater! And through his rage, Superman delivered the final punches necessary to dismantle Solaris and bring it back down to earth. Based on the message he got from the future, he knows at one point Solaris will be a force for good and that rehabilitation starts now. As the issue comes to a close we see as Clark rushes into the daily planet to write one final article as his heartbeat gives way. The final article about Superman being dead is written, as Lois rushes in she can’t believe what she is seeing. For a moment it almost seems like she is finally willing to accept and admit who Clark is…but her thoughts are cut short as the wall explodes…and flying there stands Lex Luthor with his signature green and purple colors and red glowing eyes!

Never heard of the Tyrant sun. Weird yet interesting villain for Superman. Very convenient that it’s a red sun and the weakness of Superman. Was cool to see Superman use his robots as battle bots. The fight was very unfulfilling and quick though.
Could have had a lot more depth to this issue. The ending was the real star of this issue and progresses the story and true threat.
The beginning of the end? Indeed. Everything is moving at great speed now, and Superman may struggle to keep everyone safe and protected as his personal life guage continues to move towards zero.
