If you consider the character of Superman to be boring or lack depth, then I implore you to please read some of his books to obtain a better understanding of his nature.

To me, there is nothing more beautiful than seeing someone so wholly good and loving in a world that doesn’t thrive or churn forward on those qualities. Someone who believes that everyone can love and in turn deserves love.

Kal-El of Kypton, Clark Kent of Earth, is both an alien being AND the ultimate potential of humanity. The latter not found in his admirable ability to fly but in his limitless capacity to love. This here is a man harboring powers many would consider to qualify him as a god. He can have everything, he can rule everyone, and he can silence anything that would say otherwise. And yet, he chooses to love; to walk amongst those he could soar above.

Issue #9
Legacy isn't what you leave behind — it's what continues without you.
Superman sees the future — literally. His successors, those who come to carry his name, remind us that Superman is an idea more than a man. But even so, his personal touch remains: the strength of character, not just strength of body, that defines the S.

So there's this group of people (very loud people) who think someone like Superman is too much of a good guy, as in its lame to be such a boy scout. Someone like Superman apparently needs to be an asshole and take decisions for the human race, take over and rule, only because the power allows him/her to. Well, Morrison also takes that unfortunate trope and, similarly to another great Superman story "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?", this ninth issue shows why power like Superman's is better used in service of human kind rather than to rule mankind (you know, the one thing people have forgotten it's a SUPER VILLAIN trope, as if real life events haven't made that clear enough).
Two kryptonians have become the super-powered beings that patrol the Earth while Superman was away surviving in Bizarro World, and they are quite the jackasses. Kryptonian technology has improved Earth and people die less frequently, but it's for the kryptonians benefit instead of mankind's, and the safety of Earth's people is nowhere near the kryptonians' interests. Superman tries and fails to explain his ways, but the super couple are the annoying "might makes right" kind and they proceed to kick Kal-El's alien butt, to the point they end up cracking the freakin' moon! However, their powers fade later on due to some toxic cloud that have pretty much became kryptonite to them, so they're slowly dying. Superman ends up saving them and the lesson is learned. See, the kryptonians want to take over Earth and make it a new krypton since, well, they have the power, they can so why not. Superman, on the other hand, does not which to impose his will over the people that is actually native to Earth, the people that embraced him and gave him his values and humanity, a home. And what does he do? He cures the kryptonians and promises them a better life if he finds a way, because he can, so why not. Two sides of maximum capabilities correctly showcased, and the compassionate side is the right answer. Superman truly is the maximum potential of the best of human kind and how to use it: to help, not to impose. The kryptonians are a great example of how people want to see Superman and why it just wouldn't work (also the recent DCEU movies have shown that too, although in the pretense that it "works") and why Superman being, well Superman is how he has persevered all these decades later. The artwork keeps on giving a very cinematic feeling to the story and the coloring is just fantastic. Another great accomplishment by Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely and Jamie Grant.

Written in the best tradition of short form of science fiction, just as this whole extraordinary series...

I really liked how in this we got to see Clark’s altruism, and the themes of power in Lilo and Bar-el, showing what Clark could’ve been without humanity.

It’s been two months since Superman’s narrow escape from bizarro world and he has finally returned home and is ready to start rebuilding…only to find it has already happened, and it has taken on some…Kryptonian architecture techniques? Well if you need to find something out, where is the best place to go? The daily planet of course, it’s time for Clark Kent to show up for work and scare the hell out of Perry and everyone else who thought he was dead. But it doesn’t take long for Clark to see the headlines…and find out about his replacements.

A man and a woman, both wearing Kryptonian outfits. Clark found them stopping a Volcano from erupting by digging around to and sinking it. Clark immediately recognizes them from stories from Krypton, they are also from the house of El and are the first space explorers from Krypton who were thought to be lost. They have now found there way here, but they do not show Superman the same level of respect and admiration he has for them. Immediately they are cold and disheartening, looking for ways to impose their will and the ideologies of Krypton onto this world. They have even taken up shop in the fortress, taking down the statues of Clark’s parents and replacing them with their own. Under the reasoning that they are embracing the life of krypton instead of its death. They see Superman as a sniveling scientists son with no ambition, why else would the bottle city of Kandor still be shrunk down. Or why would all the Kryptonians stuck in the phantom zone, even one of them worth more than the greatest of “human apes.” As Superman realizes they don’t seem to have the best intentions for this world and would not be suited to ever replace him. But they see his defiance as betrayal of his heritage, and the two of them decide to attack Superman. Throwing him into the moon, and even causing it to crack open! After throwing him back to Earth, they decided to repair the moon by taking bridges from Earth and using them as staples. Just another gross example of their disregard for human ingenuity.

As Clark returns to his normal life, even with a nosebleed leftover from the fight…the two Kryptonian decide to fly by and see how he continues to make a mockery of them by blending in with the humans. As Clark slinks off before his identity can be revealed, suddenly Lilo falls from her flight. Luckily Superman is there waiting to catch her, but just as suddenly Bar-El looses all the strength in his body as well. Suddenly the two of them are experiencing great pain, and after a quick examination Superman realizes that they must have passed through a radioactive cloud on through their journeys and it has turned their bodies toxic. Even after everything they have done to him, Superman still shows them mercy and shows them hope for finding a way to help them. As the issue comes to a close Superman nurses the two, using a thought screen to communicate with the two of them. They thank him for everything he has done, expressing how proud they are to be related and finally seeing that Krypton’s great heart lives on through him. He has a chance for them but they have to accept it themselves, he can put them in the phantom zone and they may stay there forever unless he is able to find a cure. What’s one more adventure? What’s important is the two are going together. At the very least, the phantom zone will have some law and order at last.

Another amazing story that has nothing to do with the overall plot.

Superman returns from Bizarro’s world after 2 months to find that two kryptonian’s fixed Metropolis after the attack and have been safeguarding earth. The two Kryptonian’s were ancient space travelers who were lost before the planet has exploded years ago. Now, they carry their home planets mission with them to Earth.

Great stuff. I’m not sure if these characters have existed before, but the movie Man of Steel has touched upon the ancient explorers - all assumed to be dead. I loved the story and what they did with everything but it’s another larger than life story put into a couple page issue.

The fight was fast. The dialogue was short. Multiple alien attacks happen so fast in Metropolis to where they don’t care that two randoms are rebuilding their city. This amazing story should have been a standalone. We’ll see if they do anything with these characters next.

As Superman comes back from his adventure/misadventure of the last two issues and finds that something has changed, it was nice and of course I am going to finish the series and keep on reading.

I have always loved comics, and I have I can. I love comics to bits, may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and hope always to love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I just want to Keep on Reading.

Superman goes missing for two months, but returns to earth to see Kryptonian space travelers have taken his place in Metropolis. They even gained access to the Fortress of Solitude. Even after all of the shitty treatment they give Superman, he still treats them with kindness, and even saves their lives.

After finally escaping the Bizarros, Superman gets back to Earth to find another bizarre scenario unfolding. An interesting look at how things could have been very different for people under the "protection" of super-powered beings, this is a really good exploration of what Superman stands for, and what he does for the human race.

Day 9 - All Star Superman No. 9

Superman escapes Bizarro World to find other Kryptonians taking his place in the world. Can't help but feel Supes was a little manipulative in getting the outcome he wanted in this one.

Excellent story about Kryptonians visiting earth and the interaction between them and Superman is interesting for the cultural differences and how they both bond and differ.

Good enough - and the series continues pulling out all the story standards from Supes' history. Here we have other Kryptonians and Kryptonite. Loving this series!

The whole thing fell apart when the evil Kryptonian’s suddenly lost their powers from some random bullshit. That was a super lame ending to a storyline I was actually really interested in.

Empty backgrounds. The art is kind of hindering my enjoyment of the storyline, though I guess the storyline isn't captivating me as much either.
