Gav spent 14 years as a developer for Games Workshop, and started writing novels and short stories in the worlds of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 when the Black Library imprint was launched in 1997.
He continues to write for Black Library, and his first 'homegrown' novel series The Crown of the Blood has been released via Angry Robot.
Currently living in Nottingham, Gav shares his home with his loving and very understanding partner - Kez, and their beautiful little boy - Sammy.
A good short tale about the Mor Deythan, a small elite cadre of Raven Guard infiltration squads sharing their Primarch gift of "Shadow-Walking". If you liked Corax: Soulforge, this is a great "deleted scene" from that novella.
April 2024 Re-Read using the Horus Heresy Omnibus Project Reading Order Omnibus XVII Shadow of the Warmaster III Jaws of Defeat (https://www.heresyomnibus.com/omnibus...) as part of my Oath of Moment to complete the Horus Heresy series and extras.
Truly the apotheosis of fluff you might find in a codex (complimentary).
Not much more to add not covered below, beyond remembering that, as is shown by the image on here, that this story was in the dust jacket of the limited edition of Corax: Soulforge and just how vividly I recall being decidedly nonplussed by the novella, but really impressed with the short story.
Through using the Horus Heresy Omnibus Project (www.heresyomnibus.com) and my own choices, I have currently read 32 Horus Heresy novels (including a repeat), 19 novellas (including 2 repeats), 109 short stories/ audio dramas (including 6 repeats), as well as the Macragge's Honour graphic novel, 15 Primarchs novels, 4 Primarchs short stories/ audio dramas, and 2 Warhammer 40K further reading novels and a short story...this run. I can't say enough good about the way the Horus Heresy Omnibus Project suggestions. I'm loving it! Especially after originally reading to the releases and being so frustrated at having to wait so long for a narrative to continue.

Initial Review
A short and sweet story of the sneakiest sneaks of the Primarch Sneaky Beak that was originally a companion story, literally printed in the dust jacket, to the limited edition version of the novella, Corax: Soulforge.
Just a really tight story that focuses on one member of a Mor Deythan, Shadowstalkers, as they use their power of seeming invisibility to get in position to support the frontal assault of their battle bothers. Brother-Sergeant Chamell, reflects on his life, Primarch, Legion, and special unit.
A very effective way to explore the fluff of and show a legion specific unit in action. Honestly, it would be pretty awesome to see these for all the legions, which would be pretty easy as they barely have to be pertinent to the Heresy, but there are also countless works with potential to work this kind of narrative into.
Only loses a mark because, while it's wonderful at what it does, it didn't have a significant or lasting effect on me beyond the enjoyment of listening in the moment.
An interesting.... side story to Corax: Soulforge, featuring the Shadowmasters. It seems that Corax and Sharrowkyn are not only gifted ones left alive in the Raven Guard! It was interesting getting to see a key part of the battle from a different view, and I hope we see more of the Shadowmasters in the future! Also, hiding the Shadowmasters on the inside of the dust jacket, as opposed to having it as a little chapbook, was a wonderful idea!
A short but sweet exploration of the Mor Deythan, those Raven Guard able to tap into Corax’s gift and become one with the shadows, it sees Sergeant Chamell leading his fellow Shadowmasters behind enemy lines to sow fear and confusion as part of the wider Raven Guard assault on Atlas.
The prose version is a satisfying quick read, but the audio drama is just that little bit more powerful, and well worth a listen.
