Handa is summoned back to Tokyo. Hiroshi is also looking for a job elsewhere after high school. (But the series continues so I assume nothing comes of these moves.)
The art and characterization continue to be phenomenal and the author continues in his author notes to sound like a complete dork.
World: The art is beautiful, I love how simple it is but how it is able to capture the tone and the feel of the world. Maybe the simple art is also indicative of the simplicity of the Island and how free and light it is. The world building is also solid with little bits and pieces of everyday small town life that is soaked into the panels and Sensei is a part of it, the world building is so character based I love it.
Story: The story is beautiful, with the art and also the questioning of oneself inside the art that really brings the journey of Sensei into focuse. Add to that the beautiful character moments and interaction with Naru and the rest of the town and you have some beautiful slice of life stories. There is a lot of payoff to the interaction and we see Naru and Sensei really paying off, I can't wait for the next book.
Characters: Naru is wonderful, she's over the top but she's a great foil for the growth of Sensei. It's really beautiful and well earned. I love the journey so far and how the different events and growth interacts with the rest of the town with Sensei. It's really good.
This series is such a fun read. It depicts country life in Japan very well. There are many characters, but they are all developed and different and fun. I especially loved the friendship between Hina and Naru in this volume. The first chapter was absolutely adorable. I also really love how this series tackles heavy problems lightheartedly, but not in a way that diminishes them. Naru's loneliness. Handa's lack of confidence/anxiety. Hina's extreme shyness. etc. This volume had a lot of introspection on Handa's part, and it ended on a cliffhanger. I don't like the ending of this volume, but it is totally in character, and not surprising. The art is really good as well, the style is quite different from both shoujo and shounen manga, but I really like it and it works super well for this series.
This volume was very cute and the ending left me intrigued to find out where the series goes next. I was going to give up on this series after only mildly enjoying the previous volume but I guess I'll read on.
...the volume is totally winding up for a big feels-punch "end of summer" thing... and since I find half the cast infuriatingly annoying just cannot get into that melancholy mood
There's another half-chapter SD-styled 4-koma... about a mosquito... That was a thing
Held my breath there hoping Sei san wouldn't leave the island forever! Plus he has to be there for Haru's party right??
I love this manga. Its so cute and calm, relaxing, silly and hilarious!! I hope they animate the rest of it. The animation of the first few volumes was just amazing!! Which ended up bringing me here to read it!
This volume was full of adorable moment between Handa and the cast of characters. From flower braiding, to bug hunting to enjoying the festival. It was wonderful to read about. Of course his decision at the end of the volume is absolutely going to bring about chaos in the next one and I for one can't wait to see it!
Nice art as always and fun characters, I’ve been away from the manga for a while so I enjoyed the slices of life more than I sometimes have in the past, plus there were hints of an overarching plot with the upcoming exhibit and the impending return to Tokyo.
NOooo. Not the cliffhanger I wanted. I saw someone else's review of this book and mentioned that it reminded them of !Ytosuba! and I must say I am thinking to myself that this could be Ytosuba and daddy's life before they came to Japan.
Funny as usual - “usual” being relevant because the humor is kind of in the same tone/pattern as has been set up in the last few volumes. It’s well done, however, and the volumes are nice to read. The manga tries to shake things up a bit on the last chapter, though.
I rate this 3.5 stars. I don't know why I didn't enjoy this volume as much as the previous ones, it might be because of my mood at the time while reading? I don't know.
Our hero enjoys (?) nature (for a lot longer than he intended to,) Naru has a birthday, and the final festival of summer! Wait, is he really leaving the island for good?!
More and more chapters are filler which deviated from calligraphy. The rating saved by at the end of this book he came back to Tokyo. It's time to get serious again!
