Was the explosion that took the lives of Sarah Russell's parents an act of murder? Her teenage daughter thinks so and is determined to seek answers in the sleepy small town where Sarah grew up. Sarah fears the teen will uncover a secret she's not ready to share: everyone, including Sarah's daughter, believes the girl is Sarah's kid sister. Even the child's father doesn't know the truth. But as Sarah reunites with Nick Tyler to look into the mysterious deaths, she knows she'll have to tell him—and their daughter—the truth. Yet someone wants to ensure that no one uncovers any long-buried secrets.

STILL LOOKING FOR STOCKING STUFFERS?
Know some family or friends for whom a book would be just perfect but paperback is too expensive or they prefer ebook? Amazon now has a new feature called Send as Gift that is apparently only for ebooks. Go to the product page for the ebook you want to gift and select the Send as Gift button. It will open a new window with an easy-to-fill-out form that will allow you to send an ebook as a gift to anyone in the U.S. with an email address. You can even include an optional message if you want.
Speaking of ebooks as stocking stuffers, Hannah Alexander is happy to announce that Sacred Trust, Solemn Oath, and Second Opinion have all been chosen as Amazon Limited Time deals. These ebooks are now half-price at only $2.49 each.
To go to Sacred Trust, click bit.ly/3VlifSE; for Solemn Oath, click bit.ly/4p8yHC1; and for Second Opinion, click bit.ly/4bhCvKo. But don't wait, because, as Amazon states, this is a limited time deal.
Loved this book. The premise was engaging and the characters multi-faceted. I actually rated this book 3.5 stars. Sarah’s parents have been murdered. Her younger sister, actually her own daughter, has run away from home. Emma has run to the town where Sarah had grown up and meets her father, Nick. She is unaware of their connection and so is he. Nick recognizes his high school sweetheart’s features in Emma and starts putting things together. I really loved this story and would highly recommend it.
The book does start out a bit slow in my opinion, but I still think Hannah Alexander has a beautiful way with words. By the end, I couldn't put it down. I'm not religious, but I do believe in God, and I think the way she ties everything back to sin and seeking God to face those sins is the most powerful part of the story.
While I liked Nick and Sarah as reunited childhood best friends, the plot as a whole was a bit convoluted and the number of minor characters made it hard to follow. The fact that both Nick and Sarah were pastors' kids made her pregnancy after a spiked soda logical, as did her parents adopting their granddaughter.

I normally don’t finish books and give two star reviews, but I did finish this one and I called the ending. About a quarter into it I saw an agenda which was reiterated throughout. I an NOT recommending this book!
3 1/2 to 4. Better than average, though the beginning was a little confusing. Two mothers and one father died, and, with all the "moms" and "dads" mentioned, it was initially hard to keep the characters straight. I like a book where there is a strong female protagonist, one who does not sit passively waiting to be saved by a man, but I wish the author gave her more to do. For example, she had a gun, as was described as a good shot, but she never got to use it. All the real action at the end was with the males.
WARNING: A RANT - On page 111 of my edition, a person was described as having difficulties as he is a "war combat veteran." Well, so am I, twice, in Viet Nam. This is too general. Not all who come back from war have PTSD (this man was said to, but he sure showed very mild symptoms, if any). I am reminded of what happened when we came home. We were not treated as now. We were cursed at, spit upon, and called "baby killers." Then, when a few with PTSD did have problems, we became "crazy." I wish the author had not implied a person had difficulties simply as he was a combat war veteran. That paints with too broad a brush.
I have enjoyed this author's Hideaway series and was eager to read this. This was fine as a standalone, but evidently Gerald and Megan starred in another book. I will browse the library's interlibrary loan offerings and see what more I can find. There has to be more to the story of Nick's past as a doctor.
This had all the right elements: likeable characters put in dangerous situations which require courage and faith to sort out. Sarah and Nick and Edward were all almost too nice and unselfish to be true. They work together with family and friends to solve the explosion deaths of her parents and his mother. Danger and the body count keep rising as they try to protect young, headstrong, enfuriating Emma. Emma was brat enough to try anyone's patience. Secrets from Sarah's past all come out for better or for worse as everyone tries to protect Emma from the truth. The town of Jolly Mill was full of warm and loving folks and a few really rotten apples. Enjoyable story, nice suspense and romance, a couple of the characters made some very silly decisions. I won this in a Goodreads Giveaway, but the opinions are mine.
After being drugged at her own going-away party, Sarah ends up pregnant. Her parents convinced her it was best to adopt the child and allow everyone to think Emma was their child – and her younger sister.
Now her parents were both gone – killed in an explosion. Was it an accident as reported, or was it murder?
Once again, Hannah writes a intriguing story of danger and excitement. Join me in the town of Jolly Mill as Nick, Sarah and Emma try to discover the truth behind the two explosions. The reality Hannah paints is so realistic, you’ll find yourself on the edge of your seat!
Hannah’s characters are very real, with real problems. Does everything work out? You’ll have to read Collateral Damage to find out… I’ve said too much already.
If you enjoy reading mysteries, don’t miss this exciting story!
If you are looking for a short suspenseful, mysterious, romance this one is for you.
Sarah Russell must face her home town, after the tragic death of her parents, in hopes of keeping her sister/teenage daughter safe. She is not sure how to handle the love and acceptance from her old family friends. While trying to keep on eye on her daughter can she keep her safe and keep her heart from being broken again? Will Nick understand and welcome the news that he is a father?
Nick Tyler is struggling with his past and the loss of his mother. When Sarah shows up in his life he realizes he has missed her more than he ever knew. However will he be able to keep her safe in this small town from a person unknown? And what is it about Emma, Sarah's sister, that he can't seem to put together.
Was the loss of the Tyler and Russell families an accident or something much more.
This book was a fun read. It was written well with likable characters.
What I liked: I enjoyed the suspense in this story, and I was not able to guess the murderer’s identity until the end of the book. I also liked the love and concern the characters and the town displayed for each other.
What I didn't like: Nick kept referring to his father, Edward, as “Dad” even when he was not talking to him, as if this were his father’s name. This was a little confusing since there were other men in the same scene. Referring to Edward as “Dad” in a scene written from a different person’s point of view, other than Nick's, made the story hard to follow.
This book wasn’t one of my most favorite books ever, but overall, it was an enjoyable read. So, I gave it a rating of four stars.
This was a very interesting story mixing romance and mystery in a nice blend. The author kept me guessing through most of the book about who was the killer. I enjoyed the wild goose chases that Emma took the hero and heroine on although I knew she was in danger and possibly endangering them as well. The ride from the hospital in Monett back to Jolly Mill was quite interesting to imagine as Edward got faster and faster while Sarah shared her story. Since I have his same first name and used to have a heavy foot, I can picture me reacting the same way he did. It was an entertaining book with a message of love and forgiveness.
Wow! Loved, Loved, Loved! This is a great mystery. A real page turner. I loved the way the characters sought out the Lord. I would love to hear more about Nick and Sarah. I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Another book that is well written by Hannah Alexander! I loved this book (as I do with all of her books). I was guessing who the killer was until the end! I can't wait for the next!
