In the first book of her exciting new series, Rebecca Royce invites you to a world where the death of the Alpha Prime has left a vacuum in the power structure binding the packs together and the alphas of each werewolf pack are on the brink of war. Negotiations will take skillful handling, dominant strength, and the discovery of old bonds long forgotten. A mechanic, the Philadelphia Alpha Travis Michaels understands how to keep his pack together and running smoothly despite the upheaval caused by the death of Lucian, the Alpha Prime. To that end, he makes regular visits to a little diner in New Jersey—a neutral ground where he and the Manhattan Alpha try to negotiate a peace. But the last thing Travis expected to find in the diner was a latent werewolf and his true mate… Cursed with the worst luck when it came to men, Liliana Rouse is less than thrilled by Travis’ obvious interest even if he heats her blood and turns her inside out with lust. Her body, she’d long since learned, was not the best judge of character. But Travis awakens a longing in her she can’t deny, and when her apartment is firebombed and a second alpha sweeps her away, Liliana discovers a whole new world of danger and passion…
This is a prequel to the Fallen Alpha series. The plot is well written and the back story tells enough to let the reader know what has happened and where things are now.
Lilliana is a smart, funny woman. Being adopted she is unaware of what she is.
Travis....Travis is an Alpha male through and through. The tough guy, with a gentle side, where Lily is concerned anyway. Then you have Cyrus. Another Alpha male who just wants what is best for his pack.
Can two Alpha's work together to make things better for both of their packs? They better hope so. They are going to need as much help as they can get in the days to come.
I'm hoping this series is as good as the Westervelt Wolves. This was a good prequel with enough info to let the reader know the background without being too heavy.
This is a really great start to a new series. It has a terrific heroine and a hero who'll do anything for her. And oh, yeah, someone is trying to start a war...
Alpha Rising is the first book in the Fallen Alpha series by Rebecca Royce and I got this copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I really loved this action packed paranormal romance, set in the here and now, and shortly after someone decapitated the North American Alpha Prime before he could name his successor. It has left a power vacuum behind and someone is trying very hard to start a war between the various packs by using what can only be described as evil tactics. But you'll find out about those as you read.
Without giving away too many spoilers, this book is about Travis Michaels, mechanic and Alpha of the Philadelphia pack, his latent werewolf mate Lilliana, a poverty stricken waitress who's just started working at the New Jersey diner where Travis regularly meets, or hopes to meet, Cyrus Fennell, the angry and difficult New Jersey Pack Alpha, in the hopes of negotiating peace between their packs. Cyrus doesn't turn up for their meeting, but Travis finds Lilliana instead, much to the amusement of the diner's owner, Matilda. When events take a turn for the worse and Lilliana winds up at the New Jersey pack house, Travis is on the war path, but Lilliana provides the voice of reason and both he and Cyrus discover they've been played.
There's a whole lot more to the story in this really great read. Parts had me in tears, some of it had my heart pumping hoping someone would get there in time and some parts made me laugh, but things are not always what they seem to be and I came away from book wanting more. As well as the HEA for Travis and Lilliana, the scene has been set for finding out who is playing dangerous games with the lives of others and trying to play the packs off against one another.
Rebecca Royce tends to writes books as series', with each book building on the one before but having it's own complete paranormal romance with HEA, so I'm fairly sure that over the course of the following books, there will be battles to fight and allies to gain, as well as a good paranormal romance with HEA in each book, before the whole story is revealed. I wonder who will be next to find their mate? I can't wait ... bring on book 2.
The Prime Alpha is dead, murdered, and the other alphas are on their own. Fighting has become rampant and wars seems eminent, a war someone really seems to want to get started! Travis, alpha of Philadelphia, and Cyrus, alpha of Manhattan, dislike and distrust each other greatly and both feel the other is responsible for attacks on the other. They will often meet in a diner in New Jersey (neutral ground) to try and make a peace pact; on one such meeting where Cyrus doesn’t show, Travis meets a new waitress, Lillianna. He is first surprised that she doesn’t listen to him and in talking to her he realizes that she has no idea she is a latent werewolf or his mate! More than a little off set at this new state of affairs he retreats to rethink his battle strategy and now how to convince Lilliana is his mate. He comes to meet her every day and just as he has convinced her to visit Philadelphia Cyrus comes into the diner at the end of her shift and stirs up trouble, he follows her home and it’s a good thing too because her apartment is fire bombed and he ends up saving her, unfortunately, when Travis comes to pick her up he finds her blood and Cyrus scent and declares war! Great story and I love the characters! There is a lot of emotion in the storyline and a few twists too. I highly recommend reading it and I look forward to future installments...maybe a mate for Cyrus who I think is not as big an A#S as he comes off to be!
I am always pleased and excited when I see another book coming out for this author. As a reader that is one of the pleasures we have with our favorites or ones we know will give a great escape. This is a double pleasure because it is also the start of a new series so it also gets my curiosity going on high. This has some great elements for a paranormal romance and she delivers some strong and interesting characters. One is the Philadelphia Alpha Travis whom is also a mechanic. While trying to negotiate peace with another Alpha he interest is taken by Liliana who has a goal of no men right now but she herself will betray that goal. She also has no clue on just how special she is. As they make headway with each other a event happens that causes things to escalate and her true nature will be revealed. But on the other hand it will also be the opening for Travis to work together with the one he was pitted against with suspenseful circumstances that occurred that will have different results than what the enemy probably originally intended. Geesh this is good stuff that keeps a reader nose to the print but then again be careful of the heat that burns between two that belong together in the process. A bit of humor in spots that will be the like the cherry on top. Received a copy for a honest review.
I have become a lover of Rebecca Royce's books it seems that I start reading and can't stop. But hey what's so good about sleeping anyway. I started this new series for me "A Fallen Alpha". The first book is "Alpha Rising" Travis the Alpha from the Philadelphia Pack went to a dinner to meet Cyrus the Alpha of the Manhattan Pack. Travis wanted peace no war. And since someone killed the Alpha Prime who kept peace on all the packs it the country was dead, packs were all fighting for domination of other packs. But Cyrus wasn't at the diner and all of a sudden Travis sniffs the air and realizes the waitress Lilliana was his mate. Just great Cyrus is not at the diner which probably means war and what happens he finds his mate now. Which is something he does not need as the Alpha's Mate she will be a sitting target and in heat too. Now what is Travis going to do? If you read this book , you won't be disappointed. I was gifted this ARC for a honest and truthful review.
I read this one after Westervelt Wolves and I was a bit disappointed 😞 It feels like this is a cheap version of werewolves because I loved the dialogue between the 🐺 and the man, the fact that they could shift whatever they want and even the story was better!
Clunky and disjointed prose made worse by a droningly monosyllabic narration, with zero emotion or inflection and terrible pacing. A “story” (air quotes, because I use the term ‘story’ loosely) with barely any plot, simplistic and ultra-lite character development and almost non-existent world building. If the listening length hadn’t been so short and/or I was actually reading the text, this diabolically bad novella would have gone onto my DNF shelf within 5 minutes.
‘Alpha Rising’ is a prequel novella to Rebecca Royce’s Fallen Alpha series. As I haven’t read any of the main series I can only assume it contains a few spoilers for characters that appear in the main series. There is an attempt to set up a major plot arc that again I assume is fleshed out more and revealed through the main series. So, if you are planning to read the entire series this might be a good place to start...However, based on the exceptionally poor quality of the writing I don’t plan on reading or listening to any other works by Rebecca Royce.
Those that know me are aware that I’m not a great fan of the novella format in general and only great authors can pull it off. However, almost anyone could do better than this. In terms of writing, the chapter breaks made no sense and there were great leaps in time that were not sign-posted, making the reader/listener have to take a beat to work out that the story had moved on from the previous scene that didn’t seem to have a proper ending. The narrator seemed not to be able to take a breath between chapters either, which only exacerbated the problem.
The audio quality was exceptionally poor, with an echo chamber effect, which only added to the annoyingly monosyllabic and badly pace narration. The narrator a ‘Mark Smith’ made zero effort to convey any emotion or inflection in his narration and seemed to barely take a breath between sentences, let alone paragraphs or chapters. If felt very much like an uncomfortable experience he was just trying to get through as quickly as possible with the least amount of effort. I certainly won’t be listening to anything narrated by ‘Mark Smith’ in the future.
All round one to not bother spending your hard earned pennies on!
I loved this author and this book. I have no doubt I will love the series as well. It has romance/love but there's also a mystery that has to be solved. I love Liliana's personality, she's not afraid to stand up/speak up to Alpha Travis. You get dropped into the story by Alpha Travis trying to get with Alpha Cyrus to discuss their packs and a truce. It seems the Alpha Prime (Lucien) who was over all Werewolves was killed (how you ask? You'll need to read the series) and did not name a successor. While at the restaurant Travis comes across his mate (Lilianna) who does NOT know she is a shifter (she is a latent) and was adopted, so knows NOTHING about the shifter world.
It is a short book (6 chapters) but it was originally in an anthology I believe and is considered 0.5 instead of book 1. Book one is Cyrus book, Alphas Strength, and I can't wait to read it as well. So in short, I loved the characters, the mystery that's going on (someone is messing with both packs), and though you get your HEA for Lilianna and Travis, it leaves just enough questions that need answering to go into the next book in the series.
Travis and Liliana are made for each other. They are meant to be mates and he knows it from their first meeting. As the alpha wolf for his area, he has a lot of responsibilities. The power struggles with other alphas have gotten worse since the Prime died. Finding his mate it something he never expected. The problem is she doesn't know she is a werewolf too. He has to take it slowly or he might lose her.
I really enjoyed this introduction to the new series. It is a pretty quick read but has a lot of action. I really liked Travis. He is a good guy who really cares about the members of his pack. He is not trying to dominate them but keep them safe. Liliana has always struggled with feeling like she is different. Her sexual urges shamed her. Travis works hard to romance her and show her that she is exactly who she should be. I am looking forward to reading more books in the series.
I am a huge fan of Rebecca Royce and shifters so I was excited to get my grubby paws on this story. This is an introduction to a new world of shifters. The packs Alpha Prime is dead and there are two schools of thought among the Alphas those that want to just hold the territories they now hold and those that would take over all of the packs and declare themselves Alpha Prime. In Alpha Rising we meet the Alphas of Manhattan and Philadelphia. Someone is trying to cause strife between them and to top it off the Philadelphia Alpha Travis Michaels finally meets his mate in the form of latent werewolf Liliana Rouse who thinks she is human. Can love bloom on the eve of war? As always Rebecca Royce has built a world filled with colorful characters, magic and mayhem. This is going to be a great series.
This is a previously published novella from the Ever After anthology originally released in November of 2013. This story only has 20,000 words so it is definitely a quick read. Because of that there was not a whole lot of world developing or any in depth history on the main characters. Having said that it was a very enjoyable read.
Travis and Liliana were very sweet together, and while I liked how they discovered each other, it's really the Alpha of Manhattan, Cyrus that I am looking forward to reading about in his book 'Alpha Strength.' That book has over 70,000 words so it certainly will not be a quick read. Hopefully Rebecca will have been able to take the time to expand upon this new world that she just touched upon in this book.
*A complimentary copy of this book was given to me by the author for a fair and honest review.
With the vacuum created by the loss the Alpha Prime, the lower Alphas are usurping the power that has fallen to them. Most are happy to rule themselves, some want more power and are willing to war with neighbouring packs to get it.
Lilliana was adopted and really doesn't know why she gets weird feeling at times. Like the one she gets when a certain tall, hunky man enters the diner she works in. She gets embroiled with Travis but he doesn't want to alert her to his own shifter status quite yet...then he needs to break her own status to her!
Travis is a mechanic and so very talented with his hands! Cyrus..well I wanted to hate him but it soon becomes apparent that there is way more going on than first thought. His sister is a calming influence it seems!
Great start and can't wait to get stuck in to the others in the series!
I was given a copy of this ARC for my honest review.
I am usually not a huge fan of novellas. I find that they tend to have little to no depth to them and the characters and story line are lacking. However Alpha Rising completely worked for me as a novella. The characterization of Lilliana and Travis was spot on without being too little or too much. The story held enough intrigue to keep me turning the pages, had enough action to fulfill the need of an adversary (who was not named), left room to expand into other books and had a little bit of spice. What I really enjoyed most was Lilliana’s thoughts about Travis in the very beginning of the book. In fact the line “Yep, her initial impressions had been correct. Sex on a stick. Yum.” had me hooked. I really can’t wait for more!
What a great way to start a series. Lilliana is a very strong girl. Her life isn't perfect, in fact far from it. She had to work hard for every little thing. She felt different from others, her mom called it hormonal. When Travis came into the diner she just instantly wanted him. He felt right. Travis was in town for peace talks. The diner was their meeting space. He found much more, his mate. He felt she was different so he decided with some human courting she would come to him. He knew she had no ideal what she was and wanted to ease her into werewolf life. I loved this book. Lilliana had a rough life but she was smart and didn't let it keep her down. Travis was just plain sexy and they fit together. I voluntarily agreed to review this book. My review is my own honest opinion.

Liliana finds herself alone in the world. Both parents now dead, and she's also left with immense debt thanks to her mother forging her name on loans. Because of this she lives in a rundown part of town and busts her butt working at a diner run by a kind woman. Having purposefully given up men for a minimum of a year, the last think liliana expected was a good looking man to come into the diner making her rethink her vow of abstinence. Meeting Travis shocks her in other ways too as she can't get over just how fast and deep her feelings came to being. Lil doesnt even know the half of it....about herself, or this amazing new man in her life. Werewolves are real, and she is about to learn more about herself and their world. Enjoy diving into this new realm.
Great beginning !! A review for the gift of the book... Liliana doesn't know she's a wolf, but Travis knows...right away. They are just getting to know each other when Cyrus kidnaps her. Cyrus, Alpha of Manhattan has a sister who "gifts" Lily with her first change. Travis comes to rescue her, only to find out Cyrus helped her escape the fire, he didn't start it. Travis and Cyrus realize someone else is causing the problems between their packs. Travis and his Liliana sizzle up the sheets , and he thinks she's perfect, strong, sexy, and wonderful. Cyrus and Travis make a pact to protect each others NY and Philly packs. Looking forward to what happens next. ENJOY !!!
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Alpha Rising is an amazing read ,its well written with wonderful characters you immediately are drawn to. This story grabbed me and wouldn't let go Liliana has sworn off men and sex and,has no clue about what she is.Travis the Philly Alpha knows as soon as he lays eyes on her what she is and more importantly who she is to him .The chemistry between these two is scorching .Throw in a rival Alpha ,a fire ,and some magic and this was one heck of a ride I loved every minute of it and cant wait for more .This is definitely a must read for 2015 . Shifter lovers out there trust me you have to read this .
Alpha Rising is the first story in the Fallen Alpha series. If the rest of the series is anywhere near this good, I'll be reading it. The story starts off with Liliana Rouse, who has perpetual bad luck with men, and Travis Michaels, the Philadelphia Alpha. Travis becomes extremely interested in Liliana because he finds that she is his true mate, however, she doesn't know she is a werewolf. Liliana realizes Travis has awakened something in her. When someone blows her apartment up and a second alpha takes her to safety, Liliana is taught what she is and the danger that comes along with it.
No spoilers included! This book was freaking amazing, it dragged me in before I had even finished the first chapter and I couldn’t climb out until I got to the very end. The only thing I didn’t care for was the female MC it just seemed that she lacked the fire and backbone that all the other female MC’s had in all of Rebecca Royce’s other books. But other than that I thought this book was awesome. So yep you got it I definitely do recommend this book because I thought it was a fantastic story to climb into and get completely lost within its pages.
Alpha Rising: Lilliana has no idea she is a she-wolf. Has decided to not have any relationship with the opposite sex for a year. Travis the alpha wolf in Philly. He makes a trip to New Jersey to the diner that Lilliana works at and realizes that she is his mate and she is latent. The story is fast pace and a great introduction into the Rebecca Royce's new series Fallen Alpha. There are several twists, the characters are well developed and I can't wait for more in this series.
Received the book for an honest review. Alpha Rising is the first book in the Fallen Alpha series and what an introduction. Liliana has sworn off men until sexy alpha male Travis walks into her place of employment. Travis is instantly attracted to Liliana and is surprised when he realizes she's his mate. There is adventure, male posturing and romance. Well written and can't wait for the next book.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily decided to review it
This is a beautiful story about Lilliana who always felt like something was missing and Travis who found his mate, his latent mate, when he least expected to. All he wants to do is protect and love her, when she is kidnapped by his enemy he will do anything to get her back
Well written with excitement drama and an alpha wolf this is a great read and I highly recommend this book
This was the first non RH book I've read by Rebecca. I was a little skeptical at first that I would like it. I really enjoyed it though. It started off just a little slow for me but picked up in action and intensity. It did a good job of setting up the series and introducing the characters. Had some pretty steamy moments in there as well. Overall I think it was good and I will continue with the series.
Dang nab it! This book had me crying. I read it all in one stretch and wish I had more. Even the ending left me wanting the next book. It's a good think this story is just the beginning.
Lilly and Travis were perfect – you could just feel it. Travis has no reason to trust Cyrus and vice versa. There's the mystery of Cyrus who seems a lot nicer than he should be. I can just feel his story wanting to come out.
