Emmett McElroy is the cowboy horses hate. When his heir apparent brother dies and his father has a heart attack, he does his duty and steps up as head of the family ranch, but he wishes things were different and his life choices were his own. Just when he begins to get his legs under him, he arrives home to find his high school crush has been hired as ranch foreman. Ex-rodeo cowboy Nathaniel Zachary desperately needs work. When Mrs. McElroy offers him a job while her husband recovers, he jumps at it. The only issue is Emmett… because Nathaniel has never been able to get his best friend’s brother out of his mind. Tensions only increase when, after drowning his sorrows, Emmett foolishly agrees to enter a bucking bronc contest at the local rodeo. The attraction that grows as Nathaniel helps prepare Emmett for the contest is something neither of them expected, but as Emmett's father's health improves, the happiness they've built may break faster than a cowboy thrown from the meanest bronc.

A wonderful storyline with heart !

We have a wonderful cowboy ranching story that has trouble, romance, a bet, and grouch, too. Emmett is the rancher’s son, but the old coot favored his other son who died. Emmett is a dedicated cowboy who is overlooked.
Nate is hired when the old rancher is ill.
Nate and Emmett know each other from the past.
We watch the simmering relationship, as they get acquainted again, as now they are men.
We see the damage someone is causing, the father who fights his son, and the remarkable fellow Emmett really is. He and Nate could turn the ranch forward moving and more successful.
These guys are good men, with only good intentions.
The bad guys are still trouble, but a secret is told and everything changes after the bet.
The wrap up is exciting !
ENJOY !

It is always nice to pick up a new book from author Andrew Grey. Over the years I have been reading so many and it gives me a warm feeling inside. He was one of the first authors that I found when I started reading MM Romance. And one of the first authors I had the pleasure to meet and gush over 😀 but that being said back to this release.

For me it felt a bit like Andrew Grey was going back to his roots with this cowboy romance. It was good to be back on a ranch/ farm again!

As a reader you can feel Emmett’s struggle in keeping up appereances and standing up to his father and the memory of his brother.

Bringing (back) Nate into the mix, you feel the tension between them within seconds. As a reader you are waiting for what is going to happen and who is going “to give” so to speak.

I loved the connection between both men. The way they handle things and how they came together to fight for what is right.

I would lie if I said that I didn’t have a problem with Emmett’s father Dustin to a part that it even really began to irritate me, the way he was acting and the longer it continuid.

A special mention to Martha because she and her daughter Marianne are hilarious, they made me smile and I loved the camaderie and easyness between all of them, especially Emmett.

The end and the epilogue was nice and gave us as readers a nice look into their future and how things were going, a very welcome edition to this book for sure.

One thing made me wonder though are we going to see Reid turn up somewhere in a future book? I for sure would love to read his story 😉

Overall this is a nice read, the writing is flawless as expected by Andrew Grey and it will bring you a nice couple of hours of reading.

Emmett lost his brother five years before the book started. Now his dad has had a heart attack and instead of trusting that Emmett can do the job he hires Nate who was his oldest son's best friend.

Nate needed a job after his rodeo career ended. He used to be at the ranch all the time. He remembered things being different than it is. He didn't want to take what Emmett was going to prove he could do. After all Emmett's dad needs to see he gas another son who wants to make the place successful but doesn't.

It's like fighting tooth and nail but before the end Emmett's dad sees him for who he never did before. His mom also stops trying to shove Emmett towards women. What Emmett did to show how series he is about Nate was perfect.

We also had side drama with some one from past coming back causing problems. Plus there is this guy who use to be rivals with Emmett's brother on the rodeo circuit and riding too. He's put in his place and thankfully Emmett comes out on top.

I loved the side characters like Reid amd Sara Beth. The epilogue was awesome too. Another excellent book.

This was a good read. There are numerous moments (the horses constantly biting Emmet), tense ones, romantic ones, and more. The setting is well-done and the characters realistic. The author puts me right there, on the ranch, with Emmet. His frustration with his family comes across perfectly and I love the way he finally sends a very strong message to his mother that he is gay and will not have her continue to throw women at him. The relationship between Emmet and Nate grows through their continued working together and blossoms into real romance. There is some heat, but not over the top for this story.

Recommendation: Recommended.

Good. Cute. Spoiler sort of! I just think Dustin was a bit too homophobic and a bit too bad of a dad to Emmet for him to just have a magical character arc in the last 10% of the book. Emmet is an angel. I liked Nate but feel he definitely could’ve stood up for Emmet a lot more. His character felt a little too shallow for me but at the same time, the book was short and I’m glad it focused more on Emmet. I just wish Nate actually helped with Emmet’s confidence rather than just thinking about it in his head.

Sigh. I think I’m maybe just too jaded from today’s political climate because I like living in a world where I would immediately cut off family like Dustin if I could, but I get that it’s not that easy for everyone in real life. Unfortunately. But like seriously. I mean the man not only didn’t have a picture of his youngest son in his wallet with his other kids, but he THOUGHT he did and it wasn’t even a picture of him like wtf I feel like that’s worse. Not even a baby picture, mind you, that could maybe be mistaken. Anyways. Whatever.

In a sea of holiday reading, it was so nice to swing back to a straight up cowboy story with Buck Me. The hurt/comfort, opposites attract, brother's best friend storyline was cheeky, steamy and sweet. I love that Nate and Emmett work on becoming partners, both in the ranch and in their relationship. Nate helps Emmett to realize the man he wants to be and also helps him solve the long time issue that horses have around Emmett...

There's a little friction between the men in the beginning, but the angst shifts quickly to solving the problems of sabotage on the ranch and dealing with Emmett's difficult father. This book packed a lot into a short novel and there was something around every page...

It was such a fun and engaging read, with just enough swoon, a touch of sadness and lots of feisty horses!

I really enjoyed this but I'm a big cowboy fan. It's also second chance, brother's best friend and a little age gap. So I was in heaven.
There is some angst, a little suspense, very low heat though there is plenty sexual tension.
It's kinda witty because poor Emmett keeps getting bit on butt by horses yet takes a challenge to ride a bronc in a rodeo when he's never been on one.
I loved both Emmett and Randy.
Highly recommend this.

That was fun. The rancher has three children but when he described them, he only remembers the two oldest. He doesn't trust the youngest, but at the start of the book, the oldest son has died, He hires his oldest son's best friend as a foreman, and his youngest and the foreman start an affair. He only takes the youngest seriously when he lasts for 10 seconds on a bronco. The guy who challenged him wiped out after 3 seconds. And yes, marriage is in the cards for the young couple.

Ranch life can be like riding a bronc…

It’s not always smooth sailing running a ranch. Mother Nature, bad neighbors, even mean horses make life tough. But when the love of your life turns out to be right there all along, things brighten up.

Cute and low angst. I wish there was a little more relationship development with Emmett and Nate, but I guess we’re just supposed to assume the foundation is there because they had crushes on each other years ago. Also, everyone in Emmett’s family sucks, and I wish we’d gotten a little more Reid.

Sweet story but also a story of self affirmation by Emmet, who however never lost his nerve and enthusiasm.

Satisfying

At least for everyone but the villains. And the bitey horse still gets in her last poke. Well done, Virginia.

DNF. I absolutely can't stomach parents like Emmet's dad here, favoring the perfect son (meaning the one similar to him) and riding hard the ass of the other one who dares to be different. It was painful to see Emmet working like crazy to earn not only his respect, but at least basic decency, and I didn't feel like dealing with whole book full of this shit. So I took a quick peak at the end to see if there's some sort of reckoning for that asswipe, and guess what?! I found Em busy jumping through another loop to prove he's the right cowboy for his dad. So, just no. Fuck them both and good riddance!

Sorry for the language - I consider this behavior to be really abusive, another example how bad parent can destroy sense of self-worth of his/her kid and make their life needlessly harder. And I am only willing to waste time on similar story when I'm provided with that satisfying moment in which said kid finds their backbone and shake off all expectations except their own, reading a riot act to their parents.

Good Cowboy Romance

Another well crafted story from Andrew, with good character development and a plot with a couple of interesting twists. The relationship between Emmett and Nate is an enjoyable blend of second chances and unrequited love. While there is some tragedy initially, it was out of scene. The family dynamics and the resulting tensions are rough but do eventually diminish and mellow. Ends with a smile and a promise.
