A guilty conscience is holding him back, but how much longer can he resist her?
Two months ago, Carter made the decision to cut ties with Shayla Kline, a woman who he nursed back to health. A woman – the only woman – he’d ever fallen in love with. A woman whom he later found out was his brother, Jacob’s ex-fiancé. It was bad enough that Jacob had committed suicide, leaving a note written specifically for Carter to take care of Shayla. It was even worse when Carter felt himself longing to be with her. Deciding to be loyal to his brother and not his heart, he goes on to live his life without her but soon finds that his very soul aches for her closeness.
Shayla is convinced that Carter doesn’t love her. And there is no way she can force herself to stay where she’s not wanted, even after he makes a pop up visit to her job and takes her out to dinner. Having had enough of his mind games, she decides to leave Charlotte and move to Norfolk, Virginia where she has a new job lined up and ready to make a fresh start. With the help of her intelligent, debonair boss, Donovan Sharper, she just might have enough distractions to take her mind off Carter.
Carter worries constantly about Shayla being away. He knows if he’s going to win her back, he has to tell her about how he really feels for her. Still, he doesn’t have the courage to reveal that Jacob was his brother. He knows that sooner or later he would have to tell her, but he loves her too much to break her heart yet again. That is until his secret begins to eat away at him and makes him feel so horribly guilty, he can hardly function. Now he knows he must tell her about Jacob. The problem is, he doesn’t know if she’ll forgive him for keeping this secret.

I know Carter thinks his intentions are good regarding Shayla, but this web was a tangled mess. But, the ending was the ultimate plot twist. Now, I'm looking for the other show to drop in this story... Whew, I'm ready for part three.
Carter is still a bully and never takes in consideration how Shakya feels or the fact that in certain situations she can’t or just doesn’t want to share somethings. He takes advantage of her insecurities and forces her to talk or do/say what he wants her to do. At some point he finally dot what he should have done from the start and came clean. But book 3 will determine how things play out. Shayla’s old boss is sniffing around and I don’t like him either, so I hope that she doesn’t fall into his arms because Carter hurt her.
Shayla is convinced that Carter doesn't love her and does what she does best run. I tried to enjoy this book but there were a lot of unresolved issues between the characters and within themselves and it reflected in the way they interacted. I just became overwhelmed and wanted to quit reading but the book keeps ending on a cliffhanger and I just needed to know what happened next.
This story has lots of emotions and characters that are awesome with excellent chemistry. WOW this is a amazing story! One that you can definitely enjoy. There is so much emotions with these awesome characters, but they have great chemistry. It's funny, thrilling and sad with parts that will bring tears to your eyes along with their drama element, but there is a part that's so sad and it's the one thing that brought tears to my eyes I had to make myself finish that chapters but the most of what I enjoyed is the time spent with the couple their unique relationship is enjoyable I totally devoured this story and when I finished reading the last page, I wanted more! I was so absorbed into how their relationship would end, it wasn't what I expected and it's a story with a cliffhanger. The story just flows so smoothly until the ending. There are humorous parts in the story and their attraction is off-the-charts! Plus I wish that I had known this story was a cliffhanger that way I could have been prepared for this but I really enjoyed their journey.
Read but forgot to mark before returning to read other books. Carter still haven’t figured it all out, but he knows his heart and mind wants to protect Shayla, but at the same time he wants to respect the relationship his brother had with her. He is deeply conflicted, but he also doesn’t want anyone to have her either.
Ok…this story was frustrating me in the beginning. While I like Carter, he has manipulative tendencies and controlling behaviors. He’s a bit aggressive but I do love his love for Shayla. Shayla is a bit too trusting and gullible in my opinion. I’m glad he revealed his secret and now they can get on the path to healing. On to book 3.
Wow! The highs and lows in Carter and Shayla's relationship are a lot!! I don't trust Donavan and I hope Shayla doesn't either. Hold on Book 3 I'm coming!
Loved this story as much as the first. Glad to have an update on Shayla and Carter. I must admit I was hating Carter and his deception at first but in the end my feelings changed. I wanted Shayla to have more back bone and stand up to him.
All I can say is My,My,My what an ending. Truly don't know what to expect in book three. Carter reveals the truth to Shay. As he leave he receives a package. what the HE??.
I didn't think this book could be better than the first book, but it just gets better and better I throughly enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next one.
Lots and lots of drama and dysfunction. I’m glad n the middle of the series, so I am going to finish it. The story flows but seemed more impossible toward the middle.
This was a great and sad love story. Sha wanted love so bad. Carter never experienced love. These two poor souls just wanted someone to love them, with all their heart.
Please get Carter and Shayler back together . Help them heal. Seems like there was going to be something to break them up. I can't wait to read next book.
I read the first novel in the series, Accidental Deception and enjoyed it. So, I looked forward to reading this one. It did not disappoint. The action had me yelling in my head at Carter to stop being a Neanderthal and me thinking they both needed to work on their communication skills. That's the sign of a good story- to get emotionally invested in the characters as if they were real. Or in my case maybe it's a sign of delusion, I don't know. Anyhoo, the book was enjoyable and kept my attention. The one little problem I had was a few typos but they didn't distract me. The book cover also perfectly conveyed the plot. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
I thought Donovan was about to swoop in and give Carter a run for his money, he's still in the running after the ending I guess. Shayla has some serious issues, she really needed to keep seeing someone about them before she was married. Carter could've told her better because that was all just messed up on his part. The ending has me wanting to see what happens next, I have a feeling all the grabbing of the stomach by Shayla is more than just nerves.
This was a tiring read all the should or shouldn't I Shayla about the letter and being Jacob's brother when Carter knew it her it was hurting him. Carter should have listened to Aunt Jackie.
I am enjoying the dynamics between Shayla and Carter, there so many secrets. Is omissions a lie? Now Donovan is in the mix, and I had to run out and get book 3, because I am pulling for them to make it against the odds.
