He wants my sister...but his family wants me as his bride.
The whole world knows that powerful billionaire mafia boss Massimo Marchetti is dating my perfect younger sister Ynez. But what nobody knows is that I met him first...and we both wanted each other then.
My terrifyingly cruel and irresistibly gorgeous husband clearly hates me. But I don't care. I'll do everything except give up on us without a fight.
I want Massimo to believe in me despite all of Ynez's lies. I want my husband to realize we're meant to be. I want my mafia boss to choose me over my sister...but he doesn't.
This is a fast-paced, instalove standalone romance. HEA guaranteed.
I’m not going to rate this because I knew better. I just can’t do this author’s writing style, BUT, she keeps pulling me back because her blurbs sound like magic to my soapy-lovin soul… but it never works out.
In a nutshell, Massimo has been dating Ynez for several years when his g-ma informs him he’s to marry her older sister Ysabel. This sounded promising because the plot is almost identical to THIS which was a fun read… but it ended up being closer to THIS with the TSTL wimpy h and dummy H which wasn’t as fun. Made more annoying because we’re constantly told that she’s feisty and he’s a smart businessman.
Simply put, Ysabel is a limp noodle with no fight in her that got old rather quickly, and Massimo was a moron that made it hard to respect. Making things worse, unlike ⬆️ those books, this H wasn’t hung up on the dumped sister, so there wasn’t any angst or drama. It was sort of lame… the sister lies her ass off and the h is too wimpy and the H too dumb to do anything about it.
Bottom Line- I love the plot, but the execution was too ridiculous and not enough fun for me.
2 ⭐⭐ - Meh ============== I don't see much of a future for the hero in the mafia because he is easily tricked by his ex and is also full of mommy issues. Full of guilt and even though he was cheated by his ex, he continues to feel sorry for her and run when she calls. Classic case of too stupid to live.
Silly! Although bits of angst do manage to slide in, now and then. But mostly a silly premise. Laughable almost. Giving 3* because it kept me invested enough - to read on.
The h is a next level self-sacrificing doormat - why though? And if we were to asess the H's IQ level by his actions in the book, then well, good luck to the famiglia. Why does he let the ow making him a laughing stock with her cheating - ofc we are to believe he doesn't care for her etc. But isn't a mafia guy supposed to portray complete power and a unforgiving nature. The h first letting her sister take away her life, and then easily stepping back in - 5 years alter - when the a-h asks her to, does not elevate her.
I am really enjoying this series and I absolutely loved our main characters. This was a fast paced story but it has everything from angst, drama, romance, comedy and love.
A great book to read and since it’s a standalone you don’t have to read the series in order!
As with most female leads in Marian’s books, Ysabel bears most of the burden leaving you feeling angry on her behalf as she encounters such jealousy from her sister throughout the years only to still love and adore a sibling who is never appreciative and always tries to hurt her. I wish a more severe punishment was served to Ynez but I love the HEA. The angst is the most heartbreaking but worth the outcome.
3 stars.. although the sister drama wasn't confronted by the rightful sister or parents, the story itself wasn't too long, so it was OK . Ysabel was featured as a balanced person who answered back and took actions, yet she didn't really play a role in revealing the truth, which was annoying 🙄. Something was missing but I am not sure what.
Love her books but there was a lot of errors. Saying Ynez when it was suppose to be Yasbel, for example. Had to reread several times to make sure it was not me reading it wrong. Other then that, another good read. Just expected an author to know what character is what…
Who made this stupid guy a mafia boss?? He is more of a beta than alpha! The way they meet for the first time is cringe worthy! They meet at the mmc's house, a masked ball event . He is having sex with another woman in a fun house setup and the fmc walks in and sees them. He too looks up and sees her... and they fall in love 🤮 she runs away and he follows her and they talk she denies that she wants him but he knows she wants him. She is wearing mask so he doesn't see her face but he wants her as she does. She does a Cinderella on him and runs away when someone calls out her slutty sister's name. He thinks it's her name so he finds the slutty sis and they start an affair. The slutty doesn't tell him that it was not her who met him at the ball. They enjoy the affair for 5 years and the mmc is has lost all his delusions about his love. The witch granny tells him he has to marry his gf's sister. And this guy agrees and breaks off with his gf. The slutty has been filling his head with all kinds of bullshit for 5 years about her sister and makes out like she is the victim and he believes her. So he is already prejudiced about her. The fmc agrees to the marriage because the witch granny says she is giving her a chance to have her love back. She tries to tell the jerk mmc that it was her he met that night but he doesn't believe her and goes running to slutty sis when she calls. The fmc leaves him and granny helps her in getting away from all the drama. Mmc realises too late that the fmc was right and tries to find her unsuccessfully for 3 months. Later he finds her and they patch up. No grovel just I love yous and it's done.
The book is low on angst and sometimes disjointed. It's just surface level. I didn't feel the emotions from the main characters.

Never again. Badly performed. The heroine meets the hero at a party where he plays Master with a willing girl. He sees her and he’s intrigued her. She has a mask on so he thinks she’s her sister. Five years he dates her sister, and has sex with her. At first I thought he had not been seeing the heroine during those years but he had, and still he preferred the sister who was feeding him lies. His granny asks him to marry the heroine and he accepts. Don’t know in what kind of culture it is, whatever. He never believes the heroine until the very end. He goes back to the ex fiancé bar sister who is a rotten bitch, and he even leaves the heroine alone during their engagement party. Not enough groveling. She disappeared after his last act but that was not enough. He says sex with the sister was ott the first time, then it was good, I’m going to bleach my brain and pray I will forget this book soon. Oh, the master / sub is never addressed again. So what was? And the heroine had to see him doing her sister for years. But please. This level of doormatness is unsustainable.
This is a literal train wreck. The FMC walks in on the MC literally boinking what appears to be a lady of the night in a semi-public location. He weirdly attempts to get her to be with him, she flips him off, but supposedly falls in love with him then and there….? But he ends up with her psycho conniving sister for five years before his GRANDMA steps in? What? This is an ever loving mess of a story, it is in deep need of an editor, and the story line is just gross. Who the heck gives their v-card to someone they’ve watched be with someone else AND who has slept with your own sister for half a decade? Just, ew. The whole thing is gross.
This story absolutely did nothing for me. The younger sister is a total b!tch and has lied about her sister for five years. Because she’s jealous and wants the guy for herself, even though he actually fell in love with the older sister. And he bought the lies. He never figured out that the younger one was lying. He was totally unaware.
The most important reason why I didn’t care for this one is because of the way they meet. It is not cute. He’s banging a naked girl. I found that appalling. It was all downhill from there…
KU read, and I don’t think I’ll reread this one ever.
This was a great read with an original plot involving sisters over a span of years. The author did a good job in giving background in regards to their relationship as far back as high school.
There were times I wanted to smack Massimo upside the head but I guess after being lied to for years it would be difficult to determine truth vs fiction.
I really recommend this book. There's not a lot of mafia action like wars, blood and guts. It's more a history of 'famiglia' in Boston and the tradition of arranged marriages.
This is one of those books with a good premise, but the execution of the story wasn't great. Ysabel and Massimo fall in love instantly upon meeting, but she's in a mask, and he mistakes her jealous younger sister, Ynez, for her. He embarks on a relationship that only ends when he finds out she's having an affair. A marriage is arranged with Ysabel, but he doesn't realize that she was the one he really wanted as Ynez keeps interfering. The writing wasn't terrific, however, with a lot of jumping around and many editing errors.
This book was not only boring but I found the hero a bit thick. He believed without question every lie the younger sister told him about her older sibling, when the truth was staring him right in the face the whole time. The fact that he had been dating the heroines sister for some time, should have made him a no go for her after he’d been with her sister in any way. He became off limits IMO. I did not enjoy this one much by this author.
This was an entertaining, quick read. The story and characters were easy to enjoy. The writing itself is a bit clunky - I would like it if one POV was selected for a section, rather than bouncing between the thoughts of different characters. I also desperately want to reformat this manuscript. Overall, I don’t regret reading the book - it only took a bit over an hour, was a perfect standalone and wrapped everything up nicely in a HEA.
I loved the book but sometimes men are so dumb. Why, would a man believe everything his girlfriend said when the truth was not just staring him in the face but shouting at him in both ears . .Again, I say enjoy the book I did because I can see the book just like it was outside of my window and I watching it all happen.
Serious lies is what make if by a family member most of your life was terrible, but for them to take the man you love by lying about you about everything was more hurtful. This is what Yea dealt with. But when he was told he would be marrying Yea instead of her sister, who he has been dating for several years. He was devastated.
I couldn’t even make it half way, this book is all over the place with the author using the wrong names at times. Seems more like this book was a first draft, after reading the first chapter you’re left not understanding what happened, the author needs to go back and fix the gramatical errors.
Once I began to read, I could stop. I had to finish it. Wish there was more towards the ending, but enjoyed it and look forward to reading the rest of the books in series.
Marian Tee always delivers on the drama and I love it! I'm trying to figure out which book is which so I can read about the other couples too. I'm so glad I'm out of my book slump now.
An arranged marriage with a twist I didn't see coming, but the outcome was the best loved all the characters, and the book kept me glued till the end couldn't put it down. 😃
*warnings/tags: mafia; arranged marriages; sister’s ex-boyfriend (still in the picture); mistaken identity; love at first sight; unrequited love; virgin h; Boston; time skip (at end); H hurts h emotionally
