Joseph "Jeph" Loeb III is an Emmy and WGA nominated American film and television writer, producer and award-winning comic book writer. Loeb was a Co-Executive Producer on the NBC hit show Heroes, and formerly a producer/writer on the TV series Smallville and Lost.
A four-time Eisner Award winner and five-time Wizard Fan Awards winner (see below), Loeb's comic book career includes work on many major characters, including Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, Hulk, Captain America, Cable, Iron Man, Daredevil, Supergirl, the Avengers, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, much of which he has produced in collaboration with artist Tim Sale, who provides the comic art seen on Heroes.
Batman #617 is drenched in rain, fear, and betrayal—both literally and emotionally. Scarecrow unleashes chaos that pushes Bruce to his limits, while Catwoman blurs the line between ally and distraction in ways that cut deep. Loeb’s writing keeps the tension razor-sharp, and Jim Lee’s art delivers cinematic drama in every panel.
The pressure’s high, the punches land hard, and it all just works. Man, this is so good.
great dialogue in this one. selina tim and bruce all talking in the batcave was good but when catwoman is attacked by huntress that’s when we get to the real good stuff. and then jason appears.

Batman's latest Robin, Tim Drake, arrives to help the Caped Crusader solve the current phenomena of manipulated villains attacking him. The two in this issue are Scarecrow and Huntress, who go after Batman and Catwoman, respectively. The fight with the Scarecrow leads to a graveyard that holds sentimental value for Batman - it's where his former Robin, Jason Todd, lies. Turns out that the bandaged man stalking the Batman has been a lot more familiar than expected.
Honestly, the reveal is quite cheap and unearned, and the twist is immediately undone in the following issue, making it even more cheap and unearned.
Scarecrow gets added to the mix and Tim and Bruce follow Salina to see if she can be trusted. In what may be the biggest twist in the series so far, the mysterious bandage man seems to be none other than... The dead Robin, JASON TODD.
