Nothing screams chaos more than a witch whose magic is on the fritz.

Windy has always had control of her powers. She was top of her class and destined to be the next High Priestess, then suddenly her magic is going wonky: Spells go haywire, backfire on her, or completely dissipate.

Knowing her dreams are about to fade away, Windy journeys through the strangely deserted town of Spell’s Hollow with a wish and a prayer to try and find a cure.

Along the way she meets three unlikely companions that just might be the keys to her problem. Warrick, a panther shifter, who brings out her animalistic side. Willow, the handsome warlock, who might just have a spell to help bring Windy’s magic back. And Wallace, who seems to be human…but is he really?

Will the joining of these four bring the balance needed to Windy’s powers to make her the strongest High Priestess that Spell’s Hollow has ever seen? Or is she doomed to be a failure?

Wishful Witch is a standalone novel as part of The Cursed Coven of Spells Hollow shared universe series.

I am rounding up with my review, this story has such potential to be a 5 star but i feel like I’m only getting like 65%-70% of the book.

I love the characters and the story is a great start but there a places that jump from scene to scene without proper flow and it caused me some confusion throughout the majority of the book. Some of the characters seem to switch personalities and it had me checking to make sure I hadn’t missed a chapter or going back to read a few pages to see if i had missed an important detail somewhere. With just a few tweaks and a little more detail of the journey and the MCs budding relationship, this story could have easily been my favorite of the entire series. Windy is a fantastic character but her guys just seem a little lacking. I expected more banter between Warrick and Windy with how they met and it just seemed to be a forgotten detail.

I liked the book and I don’t regret the read, I just wish it had a little more, the potential was huge but it just missed the mark a little bit for me.

It reads juvenile and when you're reading it, it feels like you skipped a few chapters.

Wishful Witch is the sixth book in the The Cursed Coven of Spells Hollow series. This is a standalone and ends in a HEA.

This was so cute. This book focuses on Windy and her guys, Watcher, Wallace, Warrick, and Willow. Wishful witch was a unique blend of, not just humorous, but also seriously intense moments. It was beautifully detailed and the world building is wonderfully done. Another fantastic addition to this series!

Spells Hollow continues with the ninth book, Wishful Witch By Maya Black.

Winifred "Windy" comes across as fairly normal for a cursed witch. I like that her positive outlook was paired with a bit of caution and lots of determination. As for her harem, I wouldn't say I liked two of the three, their personalities were too close together and at times things got a little confusing. Now the third, Wallace, wasn't too bad. I did enjoy that the three of them are lesser talked supernaturals, which brings something different into the mix.

I did have a few issues. The story didn't really fit in with the rest of the series, some of the details don't quite fit what I've read. For example, Spells Hollow itself went from a ghost town to a hidden magical village. It's fine if you didn't read the other books but if you have it's a little disjointed. Also, some things could have been explained earlier or better so that later events make sense. Somehow the story goes from an Urban Fantasy to a full fantasy read. Does it make a lick of sense? No. Do I like the change? Sure. Why not? However, the overall story was entertaining and I'm glad there was a HEA.

This book is part of the Spells Hollow universe but most of it takes place in an alternate universe. Windy is quirky and fun. She has a huge heart and is willing to help anyone she can. I love how she is able to deal with all her mates issues and still stay upbeat. Her mates are all different and full of arrogance. I enjoyed the story. There is no steam in this book but it still kept you interested.

Windy’s was a grand, sweeping journey, I just wasn’t able to sink into this book like I wanted to. All the ‘W’ names were a fun way to show who belonged to the core group, yet I found that I sometimes got characters confused with each other because of that naming convention. Now, I very much want to know what else is going to happen in Spells Hollow.
I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author.

Unfortunately, I had a hard time with this latest release in the Cursed Coven of Spells Hollow series. It felt as if the author simply wanted to do too much in one pretty short story, which resulted in something that became too complicated at times. Characters are introduced without background, which is okay, but not when some of these characters already seem to know each other while it's never explained how or why. Others in the story also don't seem to have questions about this, and just go with the flow.

On the other hand, I can't pinpoint the atmosphere of this story either. It starts off like a YA story with a naïve fmc, who out of the blue turns into some badass witch destined to save the world (although nobody explains how everyone seems to know this). From a focus on breaking the curse, it switches to a prophecy about the most powerful witch destined to rule, to a battle to destroy some blood mages who kidnap people. And even though our fmc needs true love times three to destroy the curse, there is practically no relationship building to be found. If the author would have just gone with one or two ideas, I believe this could have been a great addition to the series. But now, it feels like she just wanted to do too much.

Wishful Witch:The Cursed Coven Of Spells Hollow by Maya Black is a paranormal romance. Windy's magic is cursed. In order to break the curse she must find her 3 mates and a magical flower. However chaos seems to follow Windy, will she be able to complete her tasks before she loses her powers forever?
This story goes in a very different direction than the rest of this series. The setting is different instead of Spells Hollow Windy ends up in an alternate realm like olden day with magic and creatures. It was more like a quest.
I was a little confused as I read there were times things changed but there was no real transition leaving me questioning how or why things changed. I bsee plenty have read and loved this story. I just came into this book with the expectation it would be similar to the rest of the series and it is not.
If you're into books with magical quests, hidden realms, mutiple men, no spice, and good versus evil you'll enjoy Wishful Witch.

Flower Power!

Wishful Witch with Windy, Watcher, Wallace, Warrick, and Willow. Try saying that three time fast. I had a love hate relationship with this book. There was a bit of confusion throughout the book but not too bad that I couldn’t keep up. Just left me with some unanswered questions. The book had a good plot. Maya Black is a relatively new author and has a lot of potential, just needs to smooth out the rough edges. My favorite part was her descriptive ability, this really brought the book alive. For example, when describing the burned forest. “…Trees that stood tall and proud are now nothing more than charred skeletons, their branches reaching out like twisted blackened fingers…” There were several times in the book I paused to appreciate her descriptive talent. Overall, an enjoyable read.

Favorite Quote: “I’d rather rise and whine.”

This story has so much potential but I was left in a constant state of confusion, wondering if I had missed bits of the book. For example, at the end of a chapter she's arguing with one of the guys and then at the start of the next she's leaving with him and leaving the others behind... But only mention leaving one of the other two guys and not the other even though all three were in the previous chapter. No explanation? A magical fog appears that makes you remember the past and nothing happens...
And the ending was a bit anticlimactic and rushed?

I was left further confused by this Spells Hollow being so different from the ine in the other books of the series. But maybe it's just developing and it'll make sense with the next book?

Good story but could really do with some good editing.

Loved Farren (FMC from book 5) popping up in this book!

For starters, I did like this book. I did have a few issues with the way it fell into the series because it doesn’t follow the other stories premises. The book alone, was pretty good (although I hate when authors have so many characters with the same first initial because I lose track of who’s who) with a mixture of humor and very serious action.

Also, I’m not sure I loved how the harem aspect was set up in this book. I read a lot of RH books and it’s pretty universal that good communication is key, but the FMC really seemed to pick one over the others at times and would do her own thing even though she knew she needed the kiss from love so it didn’t fit the plot.

I did love how fast paced the story seemed to be, I loved (if you took this as its own book and not as part of a series) the way the fantasy world was set up. Very fae like almost.

This felt a bit different from the other books in the series. It just had that feel of being disconnected in a way.
The over all story of Wendy and her band of Wild men, was a little bit confusing, but still entertaining. The choice of using mainly names with an W, made it harder to follow who was who and did what.
Warrick, Willow and Wallace. I had to use more energy on keeping names/actions straight than what really allowed me to dive completely into the story.
I loved the idea of using names all with the same starting letter, but this was too close for me.
The story was full of action and exciting plot twists. It had me guessing the whole way through.
Over all, I landed on an 3,5 average - always rounding up.
I would not have passed it over in the series, but it did feel more of a complete stand-alone, than a part of a shared-world series.

Wishful

Wishful Witch is another witchy RH that is part of this collection from different authors.

Windy thought she was lucky when her magic didn't disappear on her thirteenth birthday like the others in her family. But her magic isn't stable and she'll have to figure out the family curse or she'll keep blowing up things. A vision, along with her grandmother's words, will have her going to Spells Hollow.

I liked the old world feel that came from this story but it really didn't seem to connect back to Spells Hollow. There was also a disconnect with the main characters at different times. I didn't understand when Windy would play peacemaker but then would be super angry out of the blue. It felt like the characters were a little out of sync.

Such a great story!

Wishful witch is part of the Cursed Coven of Spells Hollow series which is quickly sucking me in! Winifred, aka Windy, had thought she had already broken the family curse since she made if further than her mother and grandmother who both lost their magic at a younger age. But, alas, she also lost her magic, but realized later that she really wanted it back!

She starts researching ways to get her magic back and it starts her on a quest which then leads her to meet 3 men who end up being her fated mates – Warrick, Wallace and Willow. LOL I loved all the W names btw. They all have to work together to get through her quest in order to get back the magic.

Loved this story!!

Winifred aka Windy thought she had broken her family's curse, keeping her powers past the age of 13 when everyone else had lost them. But then her's starts going haywire and she knows she must go on a journey to Spells Hallow in an effort to fix the curse that has been plaguing her family. Along the way she meets three men who will help her along her way, and help her finally break the curse that plagued her for generations.

This book was a great addition and fell in between serious and fun, having a great balance of both and giving the reader a break from the book taking on one tone. I would've liked to see a little more chemistry between Windy and the guys, since it felt like it was rushed and almost forced?

The book is more like 3.5 for me. Interesting start, with the curse kicking off in Windy's family at the age of 13 and seeing her react differently with her magic going into full chaos mode; and then with the mysterious Watcher observing her from the young age. I also like her sarcasm and upbeat personality, trying to focus on breaking the curse while being hesitant at being called the hero. The book itself is relatively slow, with no steam, and I had some issues with the attitude of the men in Windy's harem, as well as some really confusing parts. All the W's also did not help at occasion :) I am also wondering how Spells Hollow always look and works differently in the books, but at least it keeps reading interesting. Not a bad book, but also not the best in this collection.

I did find this book quite enjoyable. Going in it wasn't quite as I expected as it wasn't quite like the previous books in this series as it didn't seem to follow the same formula. I do actually think though that when you get different authors each writing stories for a shared world there are going to be differences and it's the authors prerogative to take the storyline and see were it leads, it won't always be in the same direction!
The story itself was good. It didn't really come across as a romance as although fated mates were mentioned I felt they came across more as friends than anything deeper, but it came across really well as a paranormal, fantasy novel. It kept my attention and I would recommend it

Confusing

This story is engaging, but doesn't conform with the other books in the series. It's supposed to be the real world with a secret warded town and witch families that were cursed. But they didn't spend much there at all and suddenly it's like the middle ages or Lord of the Rings with elves, sword fights, and no technology. One MMC has a mission that keeps changing, and his name goes from Watcher to Willow. He disparages the FMC in his head for several chapters then does an about face. And all the W names are like a tongue twister. You have Winifred who is Windy, watcher who becomes Willow, Wallace, and Warrick. It could have been great but I was confused and disappointed.

Maya gives us the next great book in the shared world of The Cursed Coven of Spells Hollow! The story of Windy begins at 14 when we see the family curse short out her powers. We next see her as an adult when she gets a vision that sets her on the way to Spells Hollow. Along the way she collects Warren, Willow and Warrick, her mates and goes on a wild adventure on the way to a hard earned HEA. What happens along the way and how they get there, you ask? Dive into this well written book with complex characters and plot twists that you don't see coming! I loved reading this story and highly recommend the series. Don't miss out on this book!!

Great characters

This was a bit slower for me than some of the other stories. But it had this feeling like you had travelled into a world of magic with an old-time feel. With Windy, who had this impossible challenge of finding a magic flower and kissing times three. She'll meet her three mates, Willow, Wallace, and Warwick, who will all face difficult challenges along the way with a sinister twist thrown into the Mix. And of cause, there's always the bad guy who will do anything to stop windy from breaking the cures. But through all their challenges, I'm glad they got their happy endings.

Wishful Witch introduces readers to Windy and her wonky magic. Her family curse is that at age 13 they lose their power. Although this didn't happen to Windy, she did lose the inability to control it, which is extremely dangerous. On a mission to find a cure, she meets three people who completely change her life, Warrick, Willow and Wallace. Each have their own uniqueness that help Windy through some tough times. With a lot of twists and turns for Windy and her mates, there were a lot of questions throughout this story, which will keep readers at the edge of their seat. I look forward to more adventures set in this world!

When Windy suddenly has problems with her magic, she journeys through the strangely deserted town of Spell’s Hollow hoping to find a cure. There she meets three men who just might be the answer to her troubles. There is Wallace who seems to be human, a panther shifter named Warrick and a warlock named Willow. Yep, alliteration with names! They should definitely connect...right? Will they, together, be able to break the curse and allow Windy to regain her powers and fulfill her destiny of becoming the High Priestess of Spell's Hallow? No spoilers here...read and you'll find out!

Another standalone installment of the Spells Hollow world takes you on an adventure that you really weren't expecting. This book takes a completely different route from the other Spells Hollow stories.

Windy is most definitely an interesting character and the MMC's seem to have a history with each other. It is definitely an action-packed book but I found that it didn't explain enough of the back story for the characters. The setting for Windy's story seems to take a different direction from the others, which is interesting.

I recommend reading it so that you get a good feel for all of our FMC's and their parts to play in this story arc.

Windy is an interesting story with her almost mates. I felt like I knew where the story was going, but at some point, we ran off the rails. In the beginning, Windy googled about Spells Hollow and decided to go there with Wallace. Shortly after arriving in SH, is when I lost track of everything. The group starts walking into another story. It seems google, cars, cellphones all get forgotten and we are now in an 19th century village with a strange creature that gets mentioned once, main characters that go unmentioned for entire chapters, sword fighting, and lots of hiking up and down the same mountain. Lots of loose ends in this book.

This one was a longer one, but filled with action, magic, and fated mates. We have forces behind the scenes that are more current than the usuals of Spells Hollow that we have learned about in other books in the series.

Another curse, another witch that lost control of her magic a year later than all her previous ancestors, but can she get the control back? Will three men be what she needs? What other forces are fighting against her?

This one will keep you guessing, you'll never know where the twists and turns out, where all hope is lost, but somehow deep down, solutions are found. Another great installment in the series. Love conquers all, right?

Oh Boy, I absolutely love going to Spells Hollow! Wendy, the FMC, seems to have lost her magic and finds she needs to find a way to break her family's curse. She also seems to have lost her magic and must go on this adventure to try to get it back.
She comes across some exceptional men that are actually her fated mates and with their help the adventure starts to really heat up. Once again we have absolutely everything that a book should be.
Author Maya Black really brings it with this one and I am all for it! Fantastically Fabulous read! I highly recommend it if you want a book that you will not want to put down and you do not want it to end!

'Wishful Witch’ is about a young woman who has trouble harnessing her magic properly because of family curse – all witches lose their magic in their teens. Windy needs her magic, so she goes to Spells Hollow and she meets several beings along the way.

I love Windy. She shines light wherever she goes and that's what attracts her mates. But she also has to balance the light with her dark within, as the dark tries to take over… She has to overcome so much grief to find her true spirit within. I love the suspense throughout as well!!

‘Wishful Witch' is an excellent why choose read and ideal for the season. Phenomenal!!

I loved the beginning of this story, and fell in love with Windy, and her roommate. They were quirky, and I liked their relationship. I also really liked Warren and Warrick, but I feel like the guys could be fleshed out a little more, like with their past together. Towards the end, it did get a little confusing. I did not get the vibe that this book was in a set like the other Spells Hollow books, but I still enjoyed the story overall, and I loved the paranormal, magic and shape-shifting aspects. Great read!

While this book is part of the Spells Hollow series, they were in Spells Hollow for a very brief time and, unlike the other books in the series, Windy's curse doesn't seem to be linked to the town.
I liked Windy, she was a strong character and spent most of her time being a peacemaker between the guys in the story. I did find the story a little hard to follow in places as things got a bit mixed up and there was so much conflict between the guys you never knew who was get along and who was arguing!
I also got a bit confused with Windy's quest, her magic was supposed to be twisted and never work but sometimes, like when she was healing someone, it worked perfectly!

This was a chaotic story about Windy and the journey she took to defeat the curse that plagued her family. Along the way we meet three guys, Wallace, Warrick, and Willow, who are complex in their motivations to stay and confusing in some of their decisions. There's a lot of 'will they, won't they' in the story which makes the characters a bit more realistic. I think watching Windy sort through the curse issues towards the end was actually my favorite part of the book. It's like she became who she was meant to be in a 'girl power' kind of way, which I really appreciated.
