The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 💙❤️💜 Steam: 🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙 World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌍 Character development: 🙃😊😘🥰 Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙 Narration Type: Solo Narration
The heroine:Olivia - she left her boyfriend Billy last year after spending a romantic Christmas together. He had a dangerous job and she gave him an ultimatum to choose between it and her. Though when he went on his next mission and said they would talk when he returned, she took that to mean he chose his job. So, Olivia took a job at Titan Technologies in Washington DC and left without saying anything to Billy. She has been the Public Relations director for the defense contracting firm ever since.
The Hero:Billy - He is in the military and works for HOT, a special ops Hostile Operations Team. He loves his job, but loved Olivia even more and was ready to give up his job to be with her when she gave him the ultimatum last year. But when she just left without a word, he was hurt and since then, that hurt has turned to anger.
The Story: After going to congress and detailing Titan Technologies breakthrough guidance systems, Olivia is certain that they will get the defense contract. Their tech is much better than any other on the market. However, after their Christmas party, she receives a disk which outlines the main developers notes that tell her the guidance system doesn’t work and the companies test results have been falsified. Olivia goes to her old boyfriend Billy for help.
I have to say, I hate it when the Hero is still using a childhood nickname like Billy. It makes him sound like a ten-year-old. By the time he is in the special ops in the military, he should be using Bill, Will or William. Though aside from that, the story isn’t bad, though this is a shorter book, so it is pretty quick. There isn’t any steam per se. The two main characters do hook up, but it isn’t explicit at all, just generalized. I did like both Characters, and Olivia was able to see that giving Billy the ultimatum she did was unfair to him and that she really wronged him when she left.
This audiobook was done in dual points of view via solo narration. It was narrated by Aiden Snow, who is one of my favorite male narrators. He has a terrific voice, which is deep and soft. He is a great narrator and is perfect for a strong military man. I like dual or duet narration a lot better, though if you are going to have only one narrator, Aiden Snow is the one to have!
This was quick and entertaining...the perfect in-betweener book.
The suspense plot was a bit thin and I wish the MC's didn't dance around the subject of their previous breakup (nothing frustrates me more than lack of communication), but overall I enjoyed the book.
The set up for the next one in the series has me really intrigued...
This novella is a great short read! I am only disappointed that it was so short. I read it in one short sitting & moved on to my next book forgetting to even review this one! LOL!!
Olivia is walking barefoot down the road after her car swerved into a ditch during a bout of winter weather... Billy happens by & rescues her. She was on her way to see him when her car went off the road. She has a disk saying her company's trying to defraud the gov't with their new technology.
Olivia & Billy had been together previously, but she made him choose between her and his job. He said they would talk when her returned & she left before they had the talk.
While solving the mystery of missing people & being chased by the people who knew she had the disk, Olivia & Billy work through their problem.
This was released right before Christmas, but it could have been anytime. It would even be a great beach read this summer!
This was one super hot novella in this kick ass series that is fast becoming one of my all time fave's. I love this genre of book and with so many great military style romance books out there, the competition is stiff...but with this author, these books are already top dog as far as am concerned.
This is the story of Olivia and Billy "the Kid" and it is indeed on Hot Package..... Billy and Olivia dated a few months back but when Olivia gave him a ultimatum of either her of his HOT team, he left to go on his mission and Olivia left him. Now months later she uncovers some stuff in her job where she works helping design military equipment. Realizing she is in over her head, she goes to the one person she knows will be able to help her out.
I chose to give this book three stars because it was better than a 2 star rating, but not by much. As a result of being a novella the action moved pretty quickly. However, that was one of the problems. We're supposed to believe that after months of being apart and sleeping with other people, they saw the light in two days. This book needed more book for it to be believable. I might read some of the other books in series, but then again I might not.
Livvy and Billy were in a serious relationship but her fear of his job tore them apart. He was sent on deployment while away she up and left. Now he is in a new job but still in what she would consider danger. But when she finds out that the company she works for is trying to win through deceit a contract with the government for protection. That does not work. They now have to work on finding the bad guys before the find them. Their romance is still hot but will their past keep them apart?
Hot package is another marvelous addition to Lynn Raye Harris' HOT Series. Romantic suspense in addition to second chance romance which the author excels in delivering. This is a win-win story you wouldn't want to miss!
These were two short, sweet novellas. Both are second chance romances, with the main couples having separated under angry conditions, so both sides of both couples have unresolved conflicts to deal with.
And that's really all there is to these two novellas.
Hot Mess
I'm not as content as everyone else seems to be about this short story. Granted, it was a bite-sized novella, with a good amount of story and action, even for something that wasn't quite novel-length. I've been conflicted about my rating, because the truth is, I DO like our female MC, Georgie. I love that she knows what she wants and she goes for what she wants, and screw the rest of the world.
But I also have a problem with romances where the heroine continually flings herself at the hero, and he all but tells her he can't, and won't commit to anything, and just keeps pushing her away. But because Sam has a pretty legit reason for pushing Georgie away, I can't be entirely too upset with him, or with the relationship. But that doesn't mean I didn't get frustrated, especially when he continually, in his own head, decided for Georgie what she should be doing: going home to Texas, marrying someone in the blue collar community, being in her junior league, raising kids...
Did he not think that maybe he should let Georgie decide what she wants with her life? It got really, really annoying that he kept going on about this, no matter that Georgie would remind him that she has a life in D.C., and she quite likes her life, and is quite happy not having to be in Texas, under her parent's thumb every minute of the day.
Anyway, this was short, but not quite sweet, as even the romance and the sex didn't feel like it salvaged anything--some of it just made me more frustrated. Of course, this story is so bite-sized, it's perfect for those times when you don't know what else to read before a big Halloween Bingo game coming up in less than a week.
Hot Package
Much like the previous book in this series, Hot Package was short and entertaining during the read. Unlike Hot Mess, I found this short romance a bit sweeter, and the couple only slightly more relatable.
Whatever it is, I'm thinking that both Hot Mess and Hot Package probably could have benefited from having a more fleshed out set of characters, as well as a more in depth story line.
Though the truth is, as I'd already said, both are nice enough reads for those times when you're between books, or between reading games, or at the end of a COYER readathon week and want to squeeze a couple more books in to feel like you've accomplished more than make a really big list of books that need to be read.
The main couple of Hot Package honestly didn't stand out much, and if I were to be honest, this book, while sweet, was less memorable than Hot Mess, if only because it didn't rile up any emotions in me at all. At least with Hot Mess, I got indignant and upset on the heroine's behalf--not that that's something to be proud of, really. But it gave me something to write about.
And now, I've stretched my thoughts as far as they will go without starting to ramble about nothing.
A bonus holiday novella in Lynn Raye Harris's HOT series. It takes place during the same time frame of DANGEROUSLY HOT, a full-length novel.
I loved it! Read it in one sitting. Billy Blake and Olivia Reese's story. Former lovers whose childhood traumas got in the way of a happily-ever-after the past Christmas are reunited by danger. When Livvie discovers something dangerous to the military being covered up at Titan Technology where she works, she turns to the only man she thinks can help--computer guru (and seriously hot nerd who can kick your butt with his Special Forces training) Billy "The Kid" Blake.
One Christmas later, it's a rocky reunion. But together they uncover the truth at Titan, round up the bad guys with the HOT team's help, and communicate their real feelings the way they should have a year ago. And this year, they celebrate Christmas with a HEA.
I enjoyed getting this short story of Billy and Olivia! The book itself was only 87 pgs, so a quick read, but full of action the entire time.
It’s mentioned in Kev’s story that Billy came back after Christmas in a sudden relationship with Olivia after being broken up, but we didn’t get any more info, so to have a short story about it was nice.
I would’ve liked to have known a little bit more and Billy and Olivia but we did get a lot of info in 87 pgs and Billy does not beat around the bush, let me tell ya. He was very vocal about his feelings towards Olivia and he knew his feelings.
It was nice to just jump straight in instead of having this back and forth game. Glad we got this little story on Billy’s relationship.
The entire H.O.T. series is flipping awesome. I have read and read the series numerous times. H.O.T. Package did not let me down. It's quite a bit shorter than some of the others in the series but wow it's a whole lot of story packed in. Billy "the kid" and Olivia must stay alive long enough to figure out the mysterious disk that was sent to Olivia by a co-worker. Oh and did I mention that they were exes that left the relationship on bad terms? Pssss it has a happily ever after!
Again, a lot of action took place off the page, and I would have liked it to be more in line with the first book in the series, which had a lot of action throughout. Still, a great series.
“I love you, Olivia. Everything about you. I have from almost the first moment we met.” - Billy Blake
See? I knew I just needed the right guy to really get into this series. Turns out Billy was just the man for it!
Billy "The Kid" Blake is the hacker of the HOT team, the one who is gifted in the computer and net field the most - yet even the smartest guys have their own secrets and people they couldn't get over. For Billy, the one person he just couldn't forget is Olivia Reese. And now the woman who once abandoned him needs his help - or she will be the victim of those who are trying to sell faulty weapons to the military. Can these two ex-lovers make it through the Christmas holiday, especially when they have to live in the same house? Or is their relationship too far gone to be salvaged?
I love military romances. But once in a while, I want the smart guy, too. And as far as I have seen, Billy's the one with the most brain in that team, no offense to all the fans of the other guys. So it was natural for me to like his story more than I did the other two.
But it wasn't just my own preference to men with a good head on their shoulders. It was also the explosive chemistry that threatened to go "BOOM!" at every single page. Because Olivia and Billy were so much hotter than the other two couples. They had been an item, so they knew they worked in that part, and they just needed to think some things through to realize they clicked in many other parts, too. And that was beautiful on top of hot. It wasn't just a matter of flesh, their love scenes were too damn emotional for my poor heart!
And if that wasn't enough, there was also the fact that Olivia was terrific as a main heroine. She was clever, and proved to love Billy a lot. She didn't try to convince him to leave the team out of childish stubborness, she genuinely cared and wanted him safe. Sure, she could have gone down a different path to achieve that, but we all make mistakes, and she was not only aware of hers, but also tried her hardest to protect the man she loved through her profession, even if she believed they could never be together.
The action was not as high, but I think the fact that the book was so short helped. It didn't drag out, and the length assisted in keeping the adrenaline high without getting boring.
Now I'm really looking forward to the next book. I can finally say I'm into this series, and I'm loving it!
***I was given an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The opinion stated in this review is solely mine, and no compensation was given or taken to alter it.***
HOT PACKAGE well heeellllo - indeedy doody - holey guacomole! Hot indeed!
There was a hot package in the way of a CD that Olivia knew was not good and it possibly held the top secret details of espionage so she took it to the only person she could trust - Billy Blake... new team member of HOT and under the command of Matt. Only problem is is that Billy was going out with Olivia 6 months ago for 6 months before she ran out an left him. Olivia couldnt handle the constant absences that came with Billy's job and asked him to choose. He didnt choose HOT, he said they'd talk but when he got back she'd gone.
This story is a lil heart wrenching because Billy's clearly been hurt and his pain is clearly detailed. His inner battle with what he wants to do with and to Olivia is also simmering.
Soon it's clear Olivia has uncovered something she shouldnt have and her life is in clear danger. Hiding out at Billy's at Christmas poses more problems than one, especially memories of last Christmas Eve. Billy is an IT Geek and with his skills and the team behind him they start to uncover the secrets but it's all on when both are kidnapped.
I'm again amazed at the amount of information packed into a novella, I feel like I've read an entire full length novel.
I loved Billy, he's the new kid on the block in the team and finding his way there but as a person he's all heart (and muscle) and he's 100% in love with Olivia and he wears his heart on his sleeve. I loved the action and I loved the plot.
' I received a complimentary copy of this book through Netgalley by the publisher in exchange for an honest review '
Olivia is a PR specialist for Titan. When a co worker sends her a disk that shows that the weapons they are making may not work she does not know what to do. The only thing that she can think of is to go to her ex lover Billy “The Kid” Blake for help.
Billy has never been able to get Olivia out of his head. It was never just about sex with Olivia. He will keep her safe no matter what. But can they work together without the old feelings getting in the way?
I realized after I started reading this that I had already read this book in a Christmas box set. This was the first book that I had read from this author and it made me a huge fan. I can not wait to read more. It was definitely a HOT book. The first time I read it my husband eventually gave up trying to talk to me as I heard nothing. The second time reading it was no different. This time he was in bed though so I got to read it with no interruptions. I definitely recommend reading. Can be read as a stand alone.
As you can probably tell by the cover this is a holiday story. I know we aren't quite into the holiday season yet, but this was the next book in the series and I wasn't willing to wait another two months to get to it.
This story has a little more suspense than the last one, but not as much as the first in the series. In my opinion there was enough to keep things interesting, but not so much that I found myself wanting to skip pages to get back to the romance.
Olivia and Billy's backstory was an interesting one. As with the H and h in the previous two books, they have a history. I've liked that about these stories as the characters already have something to build on.
The editing was on point, the story flowed well, and the evolution of the relationship was believable. Just like with the previous book this was a novella and if I had to complain about one thing is was that I wanted it to be longer.
I can't wait to read more in this series.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves military romance with a touch of mystery/suspense.
Olivia stumbles upon a secret and she fears for her life. There is only one person she trusts with this information and her life. Billy, but would he help her?
Billy is just a wonderful hero. He has just the right amount of hunk and tenderness. Olivia is scared she will be like her mother and thought she needed to leave Billy a year ago or become her. They still love each other and there are sparks the minute they see each other again.
The plot is quick and just like all HOT books full of action. Even though it is short there are plenty of steamy scenes too.
This is a great addition to the series and a definite must read no matter the season!
I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley for my honest review - but I bought a copy of the anthology it is in too!
PR Rep Olivia Reese has been sent evidence of a conspiracy between Titan Technology and certain members of the United States Government. She’s scared and the only thing she can think of doing is asking the one man that probably hates her for help; her ex Billy “The Kid” Blake.
Billy is a member of the Hostile Operations Team, and he’s never forgotten Olivia. He’ll do whatever he can to protect her. However, can he protect his heart at the same time?
This novella in Lynn Raye Harris’ HOT series provided just what I needed; a quick, entertaining read! It was just the perfect thing to tide me over until Dangerously Hot is released. Which “YAY” will be soon!
I am so looking forward to reading Lucky and Kevin’s story!
I loved this installment into the HOT series! I've loved Billy since the first book and was excited for him to get his story. I loved that you could still feel how much both Billy and Olivia loved one another after being apart for a year. I was a little mad that Olivia didn't trust in Billy enough when she left him a year ago, but totally understood her thinking once I knew more about her past.
I love spending time with the guys from the HOT series and have never been disappointed with any of the books. There is always some action and really hot romance. I'm super excited about this series and can't wait to read the next book in the series, Dangerously Hot!
It may be April for me but Hot Package by Lynn Raye Harris sure puts one in the holiday mood. While part of a series I have not read yet, this is a stand-alone story. It is heavier on the suspense and intrigue than on the sight and sounds of Christmas. It was like reading one of the military shows on TV but so much better since the author allowed the reader to see into both Billy’s and Olivia’s thoughts. Very well done in giving their POVs over the “break up” after their last Christmas together. The suspense carried the story along but what kept me reading? The interesting characters. Copy provided by NetGalley for an honest review.
Billy is a real Jason Bourne but with a team to back him up. The story has action, intrigue, and hot sex. I was anxious to see what would happen, although not anxious enough to keep reading in spite of other responsibilities. We got a decent amount of back story for both of these characters and this story can easily stand on its own. My issues are that the conflict resolution was very rushed and I would have liked a stronger build up for Olivia and Billy's relationship. I would definitely recommend this book to action romance fans.
In this Hostile Operations Team (HOT) book we get to meet Billy and the woman he never forgot. From beginning to end this story was a page turner. The scenes in the book was explosive and action packed and it leaves you wanting to become a member of the team. Olivia was a strong and perfect counterpart to the delicious Billy. I for one can't wait to see what the awesome Lynn Raye Harris has in store for the HOT men next!!!
I just love these HOT guys. Hot package delivers a great story in a short book. Olivia searches out her ex-lover when she needs help after receiving a disc with evidence that would rock the Pentagon. Soldiers lives were at risk. It had to be stopped. She had no-one else to turn to but Billy *the kid* Blake, the man she had walked out on. It is emotional rollercoaster with danger and suspense thrown in. Most enjoyable. Short but full of punch. Loved it.
Fantastic addition to the HOT series. Olivia has evidence that's worth killing her for. She turns to Billy, an ex lover who has never forgotten her. Being a novella, I did read it quite quickly. Loved both characters. Perfect combination of suspense and romance
Second chances are wonderful and Olivia wants hers. She left Billy when she was scared of losing him to the Army. Now she needs his help when she suspects her employer of wrong doing. Quick and steamy with the last chapters full of military moves.
