Mantiene el surrealismo y la incongruencia de la serie de Netflix. Pero mientras la adaptación fílmica es capaz de hacerte quererla a pesar de sus defectos, gracias a la empatia de sus personajes, el cómic no tiene ningún punto de redención. Los personajes aquí no sólo son personas marcadas por una infancia terrible, son idiotas.
Tampoco estoy muy segura de que me guste la implícita importancia de los aliens, ni la idea de supervillanos zombies o robots, pero tratado de manera inteligente puede que funcione. Sólo los siguientes números lo dirán.

2/6 The Umbrella Academy
There is still a lot of mystery but I finally got to meet a more mature and representative version of the main characters. Here's an introduction for whoever may be curious or confused:

The following is a review for the six parts that make up the first volume, as it is difficult to review each individual part alone.
I’ve heard a lot about The Umbrella Academy, so I decided it was finally time to dive into the first volume – Apocalypse Suite – and give it a try. I’ll be honest and say that I’m not the biggest fan of graphic novels, in fact I’m super picky, but I was curious enough to dive in.
Apocalypse Suite was an interesting introduction to The Umbrella Academy world, and I happily devoured this in no time. Although it was an easy read that had me curious about how things would play out, it did not wow me quite as much as I had hoped it would. There were quite a few things that were never quite as clear as I had hoped, and this stopped me from being fully invested.
All in all, interesting but not quite for me.

Delving in deeper
I have continued to give the umbrella academy comics a decent try and I am coming to like and enjoy them. However, I must say that the comics and the Netflix show are showing some differences (as expected).
Nonetheless, I am enjoying having a read of the original comics to deepen my understanding of the umbrella academy as a whole, I look forward to reading the remaining 4 parts of the apocalypse suite.

The art is a bit quirkier than I expected, and this issue reveals very little except the premise for the series, but it's fun and I can already see differences from the TV series.

Wow. Now I understand the saying that goes with "Don't judge a book by its movie". Both had their own appeal but it kinda threw me off about how some details can alter my opinions on certain characters. I think I have to continue to read this and stop comparing with the adaptation. I can only find the Easter eggs from both. It's still interesting. And very entertaining.

Always seems that funerals bring this family together, because the weddings only seem to last so long. At least that’s what number 1 found out as he woke up to his sister’s arrival. He found her standing next to Ben’s (number 6) memorial. Turns out her husband filed for divorce 8 months ago and got custody of her daughter Claire…someone spaceboy wasn’t even away existed. One thing I love about their dynamic is that spaceboy focuses fully on their code names and masks, while Allison (Rumor) focuses on everyone’s real names, their human side. The next to arrive, and fly in, is number 4 (aka Séance). Lucidly everything they own is black, perfect for a funeral. But they absolutely cannot get started until he takes a crack at the old corpse for cutting off his allowance, lol.
Elsewhere it’s a very nice morning in the city as a group of killer robots suddenly manifest in a fair. They were setup to cause maximum fatalities under the event the umbrella academy reformed…and if they think it’s happening, then it most definitely is.
But what about 5? With so many of the family here it’s time to learn about what he’s experienced. Turns out their father was right to tell him not to go too far into the future, because there’s a high chance he can’t come back. Five spent the next 50 years in a post apocalyptic wasteland trying to prove him wrong. He learned about how bad everything got through Vanya’s book, and one day the answer (after talking to his mannequin girlfriend, Dolores) came to him! And he was able to jump back in time to his previous teen body. But something went wrong and he got pulled out to the time stream here, way too soon. It could be in connection to Reginald’s death, but he way dead before 5 arrived. Or was he? Number 2, aka Kraken aka Diego, isn’t so sure, and thinks it’s all mighty convenient. He of course made sure to use his vigilante skills to break in to the morgue and perform his own autopsy to verify Reginald died of a heart attack. One thing I’m not a huge fan of, compared to the characterization in the tv show, is Diego’s outright malice towards the rest of his family. He treats everyone like an enemy, even their own mother. Although she isn’t technically their real mother, and actually a high complex robot Reginald setup for them…it was still entirely disrespectful for Diego to rip off he jacket to show that she doesn’t have any real limbs. I can’t exactly remember if this is something that develops for the better throughout the series, so I’m glad I am rereading this. But as expected the funeral ends in disaster, and Vanya is no where in sight.
That’s because Vanya is at the boarded up Icarus theater for her audition. She stepped on stage to be blasted with light, only to be asked to play anything. Once she did the world lights up with the notes coming from her own violin. As her cord snaps, the lights come down and an entire room full of people in fancy suits and masks stand there clapping…all with the conductor sitting front row and center asking if she would like to destroy the world with them. He introduces them as the orchestra verdammten, a collection of madmen and murderesses as black as the instruments they play. He has written a new piece, the apocalypse suite, and with its exact combination, and Vanya, they can destroy the world. Finally he believes she can prove her father wrong and be capable of something great. Vanya storms out of the theater, never wanting to see them again. But the conductor knows her well, he knows she will turn to her family for comfort…only to come right back to them.
Back at the academy a fight has broken out between spaceboy and kraken…only for five to get in the middle of them before spaceboy can use a space gun. They don’t understand, with him being pulled out of the time stream they only have three days after Reginald’s death before the end of the world! Suddenly they look toward the city and notice the fair on fire! Spaceboy immediately realizes it’s dr terminus back to fight them as they have been programmed to if they ever reform. Even though they are at their most disorganized, with kraken even running down and jumping into the water to get to the fair before them, it seems someone thinks they are a team again.

Ooooh. Now we're getting away from the numbers and into names: Spaceboy, Rumor, Séance, Kraken, Boy, Vanya...
Yeah. These are really cool.
This issue was all about the team--or at least part of it--meeting up again to pay respects to Hargreeves. The Boy reveals what happened when he travelled through time, there's some bickering, their freaky mother makes an appearance and Vanya auditions for some really creepy people.
The artwork is really awesome in this series. And the story just gets better. I'm SO intrigued by these characters.
I'm really enjoying this. I can see there's going to be a lot of trouble and plenty of twisted surprises along the way.
Can't wait to read more.
PS. I hate to say it, but the super cool title totally sounds like an MCR song. ;)

Los cómics son entretenidos, pero las escenas son demasiado cortas y cambian de repente, sin dejar que termines de procesar la escena. Hay algunas escenas innecesarias como cuando uno de los hermanos ve el beso entre Luther y Allison, estaba bien si se iba a hablar sobre eso, pero lo pusieron para ocupar espacio y nada más.
En mi opinión, la serie hace sentir más emoción y engancha más que los cómics, una de las pocas veces en la que la adaptación supera al libro.

Sigo inconforme con el estilo de dibujo y el diseño de personajes. Creo que lo puedo entender por la época y contexto, pero para ser honesta creo que se pudo haber desarrollado mejor.
En cuanto a la historia, explican un pedazo que la adaptación de Netfliz omite, sin embargo los números no se me hacen tan interesantes como aparentan.

Great so far!
Started the comic series because I loved the show so much (until season 4) and I'm not disappointed so far. The artwork is stunning, dialogue engaging, and I just hope I don't speed through it too quickly.

On page 19, there's a frame of Vanya (where she says "what?") that is so beautifully rendered that for a second, I thought it was moving.
