I now have come to realize, Ms Megan Hart, one of my all time favourite writer, writes 2 different kind of books. She wrote the gut wrenching, soul searching, emotional books that left me gasping for air and sob OR what I called Bread & Butter books. Bread & Butter books are easier to write and stir less emotions and pays the bill, so to speak.

This book, "Crossing the line", is what I considered the Bread & Butter books.

I felt the disconnect from the start and was unable to form any attachment to the characters. It was a struggle finishing this book.

This book was provided by the publisher in the print form of 'Tangled Up' in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a perfect example of how you can think you don’t like a plot, but as it turns out, you just needed someone to do it right.

A submissive man in the bedroom hasn’t worked for me in the past, but it worked for me here. I loved this short story from Megan Hart.

Both of the characters in this book were likable. I felt like, outside of the bedroom, they were perfectly matched. (They were inside, too, but in a different way.) He might have been her boss, but Caite was an exemplary employee who was very take charge of her career and was doing almost as much for Jamison’s business as he was.

Jamison was an interesting character. We didn’t get much of his past, but that worked for me with this book. There was an aura of mystery about Jamison that really fit this story, and I think one of the reasons it worked was because he was still figuring things out about himself. He was tense and intense, but luckily he had Caite to help him with that.

The sex in this one was hot. What I really enjoyed about it was that Jamison and Caite were exploring things together. They were doing things neither one of them had ever done before, and I really liked Jamison’s hesitancy to delve into this part of himself. He was a manly man, and I think his reactions to what was developing between them made the story more realistic.

Highly recommended if you are looking for a quick, steamy read on just the other side of vanilla!

Quick review for a quick read. So disclaimer before I go too deeply in this review - I'm not really into interoffice romances/erotic romance and so I'm probably not the audience for this particular novella for spice or appeal. Still, I figured I'd give this a try. Considering I typically enjoy seeing what Megan Hart does even in her short fiction, I'd picked this up to see what she would do with the characters and relationship building. I find that even for stories where I can't really get into the scenario, such would still vibe with me with the attention to detail and steady burn.

I wasn't disappointed in the least for this novella; it was decent for a quick read, though not as deeply intimate and spicy as some of her other short works of fiction. Caite and Jamison work in the same office, Caite having worked for the company for eight months with Jamison being her co-boss with Elise. I enjoyed being able to see their day to day and the attention to the larger cast of characters alongside the main ones. I thought that it would be far more contentious for drama than it actually was, but the establishment of the characters, the clientele they worked with, and their steadily building relationship was organic and well fleshed-out for the short read. The intimacy scenes were brief and hot, though it was waiting for the other shoe to drop to show them in a compromising position that tested whether or not their relationship would continue after. I liked it for what it offered in the brief read. I also liked that the pearls showcased on the cover actually play a part in the story too. (I'm a pearl woman, myself.)

Overall score: 3/5 stars.

Note: I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, from the publisher Harlequin.

When I first started reading the Cosmo Red-Hot reads last year I was a big fan. They were fun, sexy, smart, and quick. But for the last few months I just have not been impressed by the offerings and Crossing the Line is another disappointment.

The thing about Crossing the Line is that nothing really happens. I guess that isn't true, things happen: Caite's female boss has complications with her pregnancy and has to work from home which leaves Caite and her male boss, Jamison, as the only two people in the office aside from the receptionist. That leaves Caite and Jamison pretty much alone and they start in on a boring, ambiguous office romance.

This might sound silly but in my mind the story would have worked better if this was a bigger office. With really only the two of them in there all day there wasn't really anything illicit about their relationship, no risk of getting caught or anything.

On the night they first get together Caite kind of seduces Jackson, but it was one of the strangest, not really hot seduction scenes I've ever read. In their tryst Caite is the more dominant one, which is fine, I don't have a problem with that, my problem was how ambiguous it was in the story. I get that this is the first time either Caite or Jamison has really played these roles so there's some self-discovery happening, but the book never went into much detail on it. I don't know if that was because of the length or just because of poor story and character development, but it wasn't there.

In the end it comes down to the fact that I didn't know these characters at all, I didn't know their histories or thoughts or motivations and I just didn't care care what happened to them. Nothing about this book held my interest, made me laugh, or excited me in any way.

I received an electronic review copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are obviously my own.

Caite Fox is a junior account manager at Wolfe and Baron and has been working there for 8 months. In the 8 months she has barely spoken to her boss, Jamison Wolfe.

Jamison Wolfe is always in control. He never loosens up or lets go. When Caite and Jamison work together on a project, Caite seduces Wolfe and takes control from him. A whirlwind of emotion and dominance take over as they are thrust into a relationship neither of them realized they needed.

I love Megan Hart and her books. I think she is such a unique writer and creates amazing characters and stories. But this one I just wasn’t feeling it, I didn’t connect with the characters or care what happened to them. I liked the story line but since it was a novella I feel like a lot was rushed and brushed over. I would have loved to read a full-length novel about Wolfe and Caite. I think a story where the male is the "submissive" and female the "dominant" is really interesting and extremely unique.

This was a quick, short read that I found entertaining. Typical for a Megan Hart book, you never know what to expect, which I love.

Caite has watched her boss, Jamison, from afar for the last 8 months. He's gruff, short tempered and always has to be in control. But when Caite pushes him to the edge, they both discover he might actually enjoy giving up some of that control. I don't usually enjoy the man being the submissive one in the relationship, but it didn't bother me as much in this story. I think it was because it wasn't total domination. They still had a cute, flirty relationship aside from her bossing him around a little. I liked the lists she left for him, they were cute.

I've been enjoying the Cosmo reads. They are short, sexy and have a happy ending. This was a little out of the ordinary because Caite is the dominant one in the relationship and Jamieson is the one obeying. It's not all leather whips and madam lash however. It's about them meeting a need neither of them had explored before.

The relationship is really rather sweet and when things went wrong I did get quite emotional. Which kind of surprised me because generally this isn't my thing and some of the language was a little more explicit than I liked which had kept me disengaged because I was uncomfortable.

Overall I enjoyed the story but because of those issues I couldn't give it five stars which I normally would for a story that squeezed out a tear or two.

Did not finish
November 10, 2014
I gave up on this when I hit the 50% mark. The heroine drove me crazy. What woman, who wants to keep her job, talks to her boss like she does the hero? I think it was supposed to be "light, fluffy and fun" but she grated on my nerves the minute her and the hero got on page together. He's OK, but not particularly memorable. This is only 80 pages, and really I can't believe I didn't finish it - but when I got to 50% read and realized I flat-out didn't care about anything going on? I quit.

I normally really like Megan Hart's fiction, and if you're looking for something short to read by her I would recommend her Every Part of You serial.

I feel like this could have been really great had it been longer. This is the second Cosmo Red Hot I've read recently where 80 pages just doesn't do the characters justice. I needed more all around. But the female dom and the submissive boss worked fairly well for me in this one.

Loved this.
A real cute and sensual soft femdom novella 🫦
Two people trying it and discovering interesting sides about themselves... loved the idea. As a person who can't seem to find soft/gentle dominant female FMCS by all means, I'm really glad i found this little gem, although i have to admet that the begging was boring until it wasn't 👀
The way she gently orders him to sit down, and he does so while pulling her on his lap got me every time ❤️‍🔥

What an unexpected delight, a twist on the usual office shenanigans. I've never been interested in male subs, and certainly didn't realize where things were going with Wolfe when I picked up this story, but such a perfect chemistry.

I adore all of Megan's books but this one fell short for me. The concept and characters, their dynamic, are all great. I just wanted a bit more from the plot like many of her other titles. Still, I enjoyed it in one sitting.

Not long enough!!!!

Very good though. I love that she was the one in control. You don't see that very often in erotic fiction.

Megan nos cuenta una historia (muy corta a mi gusto) en la que toda mujer desea ser Caite.

I reviewed this at MustReadBooksOrDie with my friend Shelley!

Shel: This latest offering for Megan Hart is something you can read in one sitting; it'll hook you in within the first pages and you won't want to put it down until you've reached the end. Court: AKA, it was soooooo goooooooood!

Shel: Here's what you need to know:

Shel: **the steam generated from these two characters will fog up the glass on your Kindle/Nook/ipad..but really is that a surprise? This woman can write some hot scenes..and the anticipation she creates....wowzer. Court: I admit wishing I had a fan. It was that ridiculously hot. Not to be read in the presence of others, as I was, having to find a way to not be affected. It was so steamy, I think even my phone was blushing. No. Okay, so, I wasn't all that embarrassed, but I can say that it was too hot to put down, and ended much too soon.

Shel: **Caite, our protagonist, is wonderfully strong..commanding, even. I wish this weren't so remarkable in this day and age, but it is, and I love Megan Hart for persistently giving us these strong women; women who don't question or doubt or dislike who they are. It's not that Caite is without flaws, but it's how she accepts herself and others that I deeply appreciate. Court: She dominated this story, and her very own outcome. I was in awe of Caite, and did not expect that in the least when it came to how this story would play out. Shel and I have talked a lot about how Megan Hart has an infallible ability to give us what we want, but didn't expect. Caite is that character.

Shel: **Jamison, our male lead, is also interesting. He's strong in so many facets of his life and yet when it comes to Caite, he's more conflicted, hesitant. To read some of the parts where he struggles with decisions and surprises himself with his actions/reactions is refreshing; it's nice to see a man be more than one thing in a novel--he's hard and soft...demanding and giving. Court: They're a great duo, and first, I love his name. He commands his board room, and for once, is hard pressed to find the energy to command everything else. I loved this story for that, as we have said earlier, and how he is able to let go of the things that *control* him and experience new things for a change.

Shel: **I love what she did with Elise--again, it shouldn't be something I even have to praise because having gays and lesbians in books shouldn't be a thing, it should just be. And I love that Elise ...just is, as it should be. Court:I loved her character too. And it was yet another spin from the usual *when present, a gay person must be this flamboyant best friend*. NO. That is a stereotype in books that I am not a great fan of, and I felt that Megan Hart took this in a beautiful direction. Go Megan.

Shel: Another fantastic offering by Megan Hart. She managed to give us a well rounded story in a very short number of pages..not an easy feat. Court: I'll say it. I want more. Yep. Lol! It was so very good, and so very well written that the words flew off the pages, made a movie in my mind, and had us looking up ALL of Megan Hart's titles while leaving us wondering why we hadn't done that already...

Shelley: 4 Stars
Courtney: 5 Stars

Crossing the Line by Megan Hart
Source: Author/Publisher
Rating: 4/5 stars

Caite Fox has her dream job: she works for a PR firm that almost exclusively handles nothing but high end clients, her immediate supervisor allows her to work independently and develop her own client list and, she has a full access view of the scariest and most beautiful man on earth, Jamison Wolfe. Jamison Wolfe is driven: his PR firm has a healthy and growing reputation for stellar work, his negotiation tactics are generally loud but effective and, he does NOT do relationships. I guess it’s a damn good thing Caite knows Jamison is off the table, not even and option and, only a beautiful man to be admired from afar.

Though they rarely work together, Caite and Jamison are suddenly thrown together after circumstances beyond their control force them into a closer working relationship. Caite knows she shouldn’t lust after her boss the way she does but she can’t help it – he is just so damn sexy. Though Jamison is hesitant about working with Caite and allowing her even a small measure of control, he hates the people/celebrities she is working with even more. For Jamison to give over any control at all is astonishing and Caite knows this is her chance to impress Jamison and maybe solidify her future with the company. Now all she has to do is reign in three reality stars and make them look good in the world of social media.

Almost immediately, disaster strikes when one of the “stars” gets herself arrested and creates a media frenzy. Jumping into action Caite smoothes over the story, makes the “star” look like a victim and, has Jamison’s firm coming out on top of it all. Impressed with her abilities, Jamison gives into his own desire for Caite and most interestingly, the control freak also allows Caite to take total control of the situation. Their first few encounters are intense, hot, and totally out of Jamison’s comfort zone but totally in Caite’s. For years Caite has denied her own desire for control in favor of making a relationship work but with Jamison, she is free to be herself in the bedroom if not in the boardroom. For Jamison, the lack of control is both completely freeing and completely terrifying and just as he becomes comfortable with his situation, disaster once again strikes and tears the couple apart.

The Bottom Line: Crossing the Line is a short and easy read packed full of naughty encounters and somewhat interesting characters. For the most part, I like Caite and her confidence and the fact that she has finally learned to accept she can never make a relationship work if she is denying her own desires. Caite is coming into her own and with Jamison by her side, she is flourishing. Jamison is a bit harder for me to like because of his general attitude – he is hard and controlling and completely disappointing when he breaks Caite’s heart. Though I understand the reasons behind his actions, he is still a butthole for hurting Caite. The plot is full of drama and sexual tension and in the end, the differences between Caite and Jamison are not insurmountable and they are able to come together to create a HEA worth reading about.

Crossing the Line: In which a young account manager at some sort of PR firm puts the gears to her older, grumpy boss, and he gloriously submits.

That's right, he submits, and it's awesome.

I'm always on the lookout for this kind of book, because I'm intrigued by the idea of a submissive guy but can't quite imagine for myself how I would find it hot. Fortunately I have excellent authors who will do that for me -- for one, Tiffany Reisz with The Last Good Knight, and now Megan Hart with her tortured Jamison.

Jamison comes across as an alpha male, so he seems as surprised as anyone when he willingly obeys Caite's impetuously given orders. He's normally a pretty growly guy, but being involved in an ill-advised and rather troubling workplace romance only makes him more so. Fortunately, Caite sees past his foul mood for the self-doubt it really is, and helps him understand that it's completely unwarranted. With some bumps along the way.

Caite's a strong character -- she would have to be -- who takes a pretty big risk on a hunch. Even when she's fairly confident, whether at work or when dealing with Jamison, she still can't quite believe she's on the right track. Which is kind of endearing and refreshingly believable. One of my favourite parts was when she told herself that what she was doing was stupid and dangerous and could cost her her job, even as she moved to blindfold her boss with unsteady hands. But she did it anyways. And my second favourite part was when Jamison resolved to make her pay and I thought, "Oooh, goody!" and then it went in another direction that was just as good because it wasn't a compromise: it was true to the story.

Crossing the Line is surprising and fun and sufficiently sexy. And, happily, uncompromising.

Review originally posted at Ramblings From This Chick

Crossing the Line by Megan Hart is a short and sexy Cosmo Red-Hot Reads novella and is intended to be a quick and hot romance read. I have to say that this one just didn't do anything for me. It was short and had promise of being a sexy story, but it just wasn't able to deliver. Caite has a thing for one of her bosses, but Jamison acts as though he doesn't know she exists. When her other boss Elise has complications with her pregnancy, Caite has to step up and interact with Jamison more. The attraction between them grows, but both are wary of starting anything because of their professional relationship. But Jamison is drawn to Caite and craves what only she can offer him, even if it confuses him.

I really felt like there wasn't anything that happened in this story. There just wasn't a lot going on, and I kept waiting for something that never came. There wasn't anything really forbidden about this, and there wasn't a chance for any office drama of them getting caught seeing each other. Jamison was used to being in control and struggled giving that up to Caite and not being ashamed about what they were doing. But really that was the extent of the story. I was pretty bored with this one and it didn't really hold my interest. If it wouldn't have been for the extremely short length, I would have given up on this one. I wish that I could say that the heat made up for the lack of story, but honestly there wasn't even that much steam to this one. I felt like we didn't really ever get to know the characters either, and that made it even harder for me to want to read this book. There was just nothing to capture and keep my attention. I feel like this story could have been so much more, and the idea of Caite being the one in control of Jamison definitely intrigued me. Unfortunately it just fell short on the delivery of what could have been a really hot and interesting story.

Caitlyn Fox is a dynamo publicist working at a boutique agency. She's noticed her boss, Jamison Wolfe, but has he noticed her? Nyet. But when he does, she's going to make sure she breaks all the rules.

Caitlyn's direct boss is pregnant, and on bed rest, leaving Caitlyn in charge of the firm's newest and most prominent clients--three reality stars from a show called Treasure House. Two of the trio are clearly a pair, but Tommy is interested in Caitlyn.

She knows she can't get involved with Tommy--much like she knows she can't get involved with Jamison. And yet, Jamison is her target. She's spent months learning his cues--from the other side of the office. Caitlyn's demeanor with Jamison is cool, yet compelling. She directs him when he didn't think he could take direction, and he finds he likes it very much. Yes, Jamison likes being subordinate. He revels in pleasing Caitlyn--in even the most simple ways.

What Jamison doesn't like? Tommy. There's no doubt that the man is interested. But, does Caitlyn return his ardor? Jamison is willing to step past the simple control games Caitlyn has established to ensure his suit, but, in the process, their tryst is discovered at a moment of complete vulnerability for Jamison. Can he get past his embarrassment? Can Caitlyn continue working with Jamison amid the tension?

Tommy, of course has some role to play here...but will it lead to reconnection, or severance?

This is a sensual, short read. It packs a whole lot of punch, both emotionally and sexually. I really enjoyed the play between Caitlyn and Jamison. They have a subtle Dom/sub dynamic that is really easy to imagine and involves no special training or implements, per se. Tommy is a nice foil--rounding out the story and providing a satisfactory third wheel to the romance. I enjoyed the resolution, and would read a sequel.

I rated Crossing the Line by Megan Hart FOUR LEAVES!!
Megan Hart does it again. I typically sit and count the days until the next Megan Hart novel releases. Let's just say it was worth the wait; this book did not disappoint!

Crossing the Line is another Megan Hart classic. In this she creates another set of memorable characters and a story that leaves you hanging on every word; loving it until it was over. This is the PERFECT book for reading at the pool or at the beach! This book was a great fun, light, sexy easy read. After reading two very intense novels, this was a great one to use as an in between when I just need a break from the thinking of other books.
Caite Fox has worked at Wolfe and Barron for 8 months. A job that she loves, more than just the job she also has been in lust with Jamison Wolfe, her hot boss, for as long as she has been working there. She has been swooning over him since the day he hired her and although he knows they make a great professional team she never ever thinks that he will ever reciprocate her feelings....until one day. Caite takes a leap.
Caite has pushed Jamison boundaries and they soon find out that Jamison enjoys being the submissive in the relationship. I'm not really fond on reading about men being the submissive in stories but for this book it worked.

The story is short, but just like all of Megan's books they are about realistic characters, wonderful dialogue, and steamy sex. I would without a doubt have enjoyed reading this as a full length novel. The book ended with no unanswered questions and thank goodness no cliffhanger!

A gifted copy was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review by Jodie Rae.

CROSSING THE LINE might be by far my favorite Cosmo Red Hot Read.  It was unexpected in many ways.  And yes, that usually happens when you don't even take a look at the blurb.  I just saw "Ohhh shiny new Megan Hart story!  Must read now!

As always this was unconventional, and it also features a strong heroine, daring in ways that might shock some people.  But unafraid to test the limits and the lines to see if she can get what she wants.

Caitlyn has been working at a celebrity PR firm for just a short while.  And that whole time she's had the hots for the owner of the firm, Jamison.  When the opportunity comes for her to work closely with her sexy boss, she takes full advantage of it and tries to cross lines.  Work lines and sexual lines.  Caitlyn likes control, and Jamison might just realize that he likes to give it up only when it comes to sex.

I love seeing a heroine taking control.  Caitlyn is not necessarily experienced but she's confident.  And that in and of itself is attractive. She demands attention.  And that was beyond sexy! Jamison on the other hand is all about alpha and dominant, and it was so enthralling to see him coming to his knees to fulfill Caitlyn's every desire.

CROSSING THE LINES is sizzling hot!  A quick read that will warm you up.  It's fun, sexy and fearless.  Just what I was expecting in a Cosmo Red Hot Read.  Megan Hart hit it perfectly!

CROSSING THE LINE might be by far my favorite Cosmo Red Hot Read. It was unexpected in many ways. And yes, that usually happens when you don’t even take a look at the blurb. I just saw “Ohhh shiny new Megan Hart story! Must read now!

As always this was unconventional, and it also features a strong heroine, daring in ways that might shock some people. But unafraid to test the limits and the lines to see if she can get what she wants.

Caitlyn has been working at a celebrity PR firm for just a short while. And that whole time she’s had the hots for the owner of the firm, Jamison.

Caitlyn is not necessarily experienced but she’s confident. And that in and of itself is attractive. She demands attention. And that was beyond sexy! Jamison on the other hand is all about alpha and dominant, and it was so enthralling to see him coming to his knees to fulfill Caitlyn’s every desire.

CROSSING THE LINES is sizzling hot! A quick read that will warm you up. It’s fun, sexy and fearless. Just what I was expecting in a Cosmo Red Hot Read. Megan Hart hit it perfectly!
