About the author

I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There's no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.


I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).

So far, I've worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer's mill.

Walker prepares pancakes for Lara and the children.

“Banana and walnut, as ordered.”
Blowing him a kiss, she doused the pancakes in syrup, added some strawberries, and stood to top up everyone’s drinks as Walker sat down with his toast. She tempted him into trying a bite of her pancake, but he wasn’t impressed.
“It tastes like chocolate syrup.”
“Your palate is obviously unrefined.”

I love Lara, Walker & their little family so even though this is a really short little snippet it was perfect seeing them all spending the morning together just doing something normal like having breakfast!

Free short story from the Newsletter Collection, about wolf changeling Lara and her Psy mate Walker. They’re about the longest running couple in this series to never get their own book; I think there was a novella, but they’ve always been around in the background. I love the lack of drama and angst in their relationship - probably the reason they never got a whole book, sigh!

This short vignette is one of the free stories that Singh provides for fans of the Psy Changeling series. The stories show the lighter, more normal side of characters from the series. PANCAKES features Lara and Walker Lauren. In this story, breakfast with Lara and Walker and their children is depicted. It is a cute domestic scene that shows the new family bonding together. Cute and sweet and so normal!

“Pancakes” is a short story of only about three pages that takes place sometime after Kiss of Snow in the Psy-Changeling series chronology and is an expanded version of a scene that was originally included in the novella “Texture of Intimacy” that features Walker and Lara. Lara awakens to the smell of breakfast cooking and finds her new mate, Walker, in the kitchen making pancakes for their kids, Toby and Marlee, after which a family breakfast ensues. This was a super-sweet, slice-of-life story for Walker and Lara that shows how well they’ve assimilated to family life together. The kids are adorable, having their own little personalities, while Walker and Lara prove they’re not only the perfect parents, but also the perfect mates. Nalini Singh manages to infuse a decent amount of sweet romance into this brief story, too, making it chef’s kiss perfection.

First there were banana chocolate chip pancakes and now it’s banana walnut? With strawberries? And chocolate sauce? AND syrup (although I’m suspicious about the kind used in this story because the genuine maple juice that us Canucks use generally doesn’t come in a squeeze bottle)?
