A Great Hunt has been called, and Kor’sarro Khan, Master of the Hunt, gathers the White Scars for war. They shall track their prey across the galaxy, never resting until his head is taken to be displayed in the Chapter’s fortress-monastery on distant Chogoris. But this prey will be a challenge, for he is as fast and as cunning as the sons of Jaghatai, and as deadly a foe as the khan has ever faced. For on this Great Hunt, the White Scars seek the daemon prince known only as Doomrider.

A pretty good White Scars story, the first one I read and while it didn’t impress me all that much, I am now more interested in reading future white scars stories. I am surprised at how much I liked Doomrider though, I expected him to be a basic and while he wasn’t particularly special, he was pretty cool and charismatic.
The 40k universe is all about suspension of disbelief, and perhaps the Space Marine Battles series especially so. After all, genetically engineered giants who can spit acid, absorb memories through eating their enemies. survive the loss of limbs and internal organs…and still prefer fighting with swords? It’s not exactly grounded in realism. Which is why it’s perfectly acceptable for the series to include Josh Reynolds’ audio drama Master of the Hunt, which follows Kor’sarro Khan of the White Scars as he pursues the daemon prince Doombreed – let’s face it, a story about a 10,000 year old, motorbike-riding daemon is unlikely to be very realistic.
This audiobook is awesome, but not perfect. How it's awesome: 1) DOOMRIDER IS BACK 2) DOOMRIDER IS AWESOME 3) Good sound design and voice acting. 4) It's all very well-written, and the fight scenes are certainly entertaining (and grimdark).
Why it can suck: (SPOILERS DOWN HERE) Doomrider dies. I get that it couldn't have ended any other way, and his head is still alive, but he still got his head ripped off during his return.
(SPOILERS OVER)
Overall, this audiobook's definitely worth a listen. If you're an old fan or a newbie, as long as you like doomrider, you'll want to hear this.
