The Bistro at Holiday Bay plays host to the Holiday Bay High School class of 2004 as they gather to celebrate their twentieth reunion. While every class seems to have its story to tell, this particular class is most famous for the murder of one of its most popular students shortly before graduation. The case was never solved, and the killer was never caught, but there is more than one alumnus who feels certain that the secret to finally bringing this cold case full circle is to take a hard look at a group of students who, on the surface, seem the least likely to have been involved in any sort of crime let alone murder. Meanwhile, Shelby is trying very hard not to commit her own act of violence when the reunion coordinator turns out to be ten times worse than the worse bridezilla she's ever worked with. It seems that no matter how hard Shelby and her staff try to please this woman there seems to be no way to please her.
Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

Homecoming and Homicide is the seventh book in Kathi Daley’s Bistro at Holiday Bay series. There are quite a few familiar characters, along with new ones, since this is the first spin-off series from Ms. Daley’s Inn at Holiday Bay series. The well-plotted storyline flows smoothly, the setting is charming, and the well-developed characters are three-dimensional, compassionate, and caring. The murder mysteries in this installment are intriguing and complex, with no shortage of twists, turns, or red herrings. I highly recommend this series to readers who enjoy well-crafted, cozy mysteries.
Shelby Morris learned that she not only had two half-sisters, Sage Wilson and Sierra Danielson, but that the grandmother they didn’t even know existed had passed away, leaving them cash, personal property, and a mansion and grounds worth millions of dollars. The sisters decided Shelby would move to Holiday Bay, Maine, to live in and care for the house and grounds. When Shelby Morris and her friend, talented chef, and business partner, Amy Hogan, discovered a local bar and restaurant, the Bistro at Holiday Bay, was for sale, the two friends decided to go into business together. Business at the Bistro has been booming since the completion of their remodeling project, opening up the Bistro’s first floor, adding additional seating, exposing previously hidden windows overlooking the harbor, moving the kitchen to the second floor, and opening a second bar and dining area on the rooftop.
In this installment, Shelby has agreed to host multiple events at the Bistro for the twentieth reunion of Holiday Bay High School’s class of two thousand four over three days. Had she known that the event coordinator, Sherrylee Renfro, would be demanding and request numerous changes right up to the last moment, she most likely wouldn’t have. After Lacy Parker shared that this particular class was known for one of its students, Trayler Erstwhile, being murdered shortly before graduation with Nikki Peyton, she couldn’t help but tell Shelby, who became intrigued and shared the story with Beck Cage and Dawson Westwood, both of whom agreed to help her look into the case.
The Bistro at Holiday Bay is hosting the twentieth reunion of Holiday Bay's Class of 2004. While every class has its own story, this class is best known for the murder of one of the most popular boys shortly before the school year ended. The murder became a cold case and the killer was never found. Shelby and her friends decide to investigate and discover that more than one alumnus has secrets to tell. Meanwhile, Shelby is keeping things together when the reunion coordinator is worse than any bridezilla as she makes changes upon changes and is proving to be difficult to please.
Kathi Daley is one of my favorite cozy mystery authors and her books are a definite can't-miss. I love all of her Holiday Bay series and this book is a prime example of why. It was well-written while the characters are well-developed and believable. This was a fun, fast-paced read that drew me in and kept me hooked. The mystery was intriguing and multifaceted with a surprising ending. I really enjoyed this book and am eager for the next one. I highly recommend both book and series which I think is best read in order although each book does have its own self-contained mystery.
This was a cold case based on a murder involving the participants in a 20th high school reunion taking place at the Bistro. Shelby and her buddies work out the puzzling details to expose the murderer - a surprise character!
Amazon synopsis: The Bistro at Holiday Bay plays host to the Holiday Bay High School class of 2004 as they gather to celebrate their twentieth reunion.
The Bistro is hosting a twenty year high school reunion which should be an easy three day event; but the coordinator keeps calling with changes and additions. Shelby and her staff cannot wait until it is over. Nikki, one of the employees tells Shelby that she was talking to their friend Lacy who graduated a year before this class and that she told of a star senior of this class being murdered just weeks before graduation and the case was closed without being solved. So of course Shelby, Nikki, Dawson and Beck dive in to try to solve this twenty year old mystery.
Shelby and her employees are preparing for a 20-year reunion weekend for the class of 2004. They learn of the murder of a boy from that class and decide to look into it. Tray had lots of friends, but also lots of enemies. For some reason, the cop who originally investigated the murder suddenly stopped. Several classmates have their own secrets that were not revealed at the time. Although this is an ongoing series and the characters continue, each story has an ending, which I find refreshing.
Another cold case mystery for Shelby and friends to solve in Holiday Bay. The story starts with a 20 year class reunion that has several events being held at the Bistro. This class has a tragedy occur a few weeks before graduation when a popular student was found beaten to death. This was an intriguing mystery with several suspects, more than a few red herrings, some deft twists and turns before the friends finally piece the puzzle together and turn it over to Alex. I always enjoy my visits to Holiday Bay.
Love all the Holiday Bay cozy mysteries. This one is about 2004 1o year reunion held at the Bistro. The amateur sleuths in this one is Lacy, Shelby, Dawson and Nancy . They are trying to solve the murder of Traylor right before graduation. The sleuths go head on and in the end they find out who the murderer is . There are a lot of people who knew things but at the age of 18 they really didn't know how to handle it.
While my favorite books are the Inn at Holiday Bay, these books at the Bistro are very close. In this book they manage to solve a 20 year old murder. So many people involved were still in high when the murder happened. A crooked cop, a high school athlete, a drug dealing store owner and a ton of secrets made this a very enjoyable book.
When I started reading this book, I thought the story wasn´t interesting, maybe a little boring. How wrong I was. The book is amazing and unpredictable. Trying to solve a crime that happened twenty years ago is not an easy task, but the sleuthing team at Holiday Bay Bistro never gives up. The "Welcome Class of 2004" is an event that will make people reveal some secrets and regrets from the past. The unsolved crime is the main point, but a lot of things can happen when Shelby and the guys decide to find the truth. It's an easy book to read and a good one, of course.
The Bistro at Holiday Bay: Homecoming and Homicide
Interesting cozy. A 20 year class reunion with a high strung organizer. As the staff gears up for this 3day event they find there was an unsolved murder during this class senior year. They start trying to figure this out with some surprising results.
A 20 year old murder is on the mind of the gang at the Bistro after being hired to host the 20 year class reunion. Turns out that there was a lot going on and several classmates along with the police officer and sports equipment store were all involved in the murder.
Fascinating story that begins with a rumor passed around and ends with the arrest of one of the students for 2 murders. The in-between part is quite interesting as clues are followed leading to more clues to follow.. Well written story by Kathi Dali. I really enjoy her many bookseries and how characters are woven between the pages.
Very interesting the murder, the High School reunion, and the ending. I just had my 60th High School reunion and can see the plot playing out. Can imagine the murder and all the suspects, the “I wonder who did it” talk at the reunion. I wouldn’t have had the patience with the organizer that was shown in the book.
I so enjoyed this book. Beck for uno has changed in my imagination he used to be a washed out, rather useless ex cop, now I imagine him as a good looking, smart and helpful part of the group. And I want Shelby and Dawson together, really together. I don’t remember this Sean person, if we ever met him but he can’t be better than Dawson.
I do like KD's books because they're uncomplicated and light read that can be read quickly. However, I had a little more problem getting into this story. I just couldn't figure out why Shelby latched onto this murder and wanted to investigate. I did finish, but it took me a while.
A 20-year reunion and unsolved murder make for an intriguing read. The characters are realistic, and the story flows from scene to scene. I highly recommend this book and the series.
I love it when characters in the books I like get to intersect, which happened several times in this book. Add in a complicated situation coming to a good resolution, and I found this book most enjoyable to read.
I continue to write that I love Kathi Daley books. Her cozy mysteries enthralling and allow the reader to feel part if a mystery while feeling part of a family as well. This series gets better with every book.
Interesting plot but too many names to follow. Some very similar to others eg Lucy and Lacy and some unfamiliar so confusing as I couldn't tell if they were males or females .
The series gets better with each story. This one makes you wonder why more mysteries don't use class reunions for the plot. It certainly allows for a myriad of believable red herrings!
