Phoebe Sinclair combines her love of flowers and teaching to nurture a cut flower business on her grandfather’s land. She’s got her hands full growing the farm, growing her customer base, and dealing with her growing attraction to the aloof man who’s volunteered to help make her farming dream come true.

Can she focus on her main job, or will a pair of yearning eyes and a hurting heart divert her worthy goals?

Heath Daniels has resigned himself to a life of singleness as he watches his siblings couple up and set wedding dates. Tracking their happiness, however, is more difficult than he expected. A real struggle, in fact.

Feeling the old troubles creep back to tempt him—troubles from the bad time when he dropped out of college to explore less-than-noble pursuits—propels him to volunteer for manual labor that leaves him exhausted at the end of every day and out of trouble.

His additional hours of agri-business, however, lead to more struggles with an intriguing farmer. Does he have the strength to resist old temptations as well as a beautiful new one, too?

This entire series was so good!  I think Phoebe and Heath are my favorite two characters of the series (Chas was great too).  All of these siblings and their mates feel like real people living out real life issues.

Phoebe just wants to make a successful business of her parents farm.  She struggles to put the past behind her and make a new path.  Love is the last thing she expected to find on the farm.

Meanwhile, Heath is just trying to get through the days without seeing his siblings who have found mates.  One by one he watches them marry and find happiness.  But that is not the life he feels he needs to have.  So, head down, he focuses on work and volunteering at the new farm.  Keeping his head down and eyes averted from love proves a difficult task with Phoebe around!

This story shows that sometimes when we people aren't looking for love, they find it right under their nose!

A heartwarming story of learning how to let go of the past in order to live a fulfilling, joy-filled life . . .

There are many things I enjoyed about this story, but the first thing that comes to mind is how much the author's warm and welcoming writing style appeals to me. She infuses the story with wit when it is warranted, emotion when it is appropriate, and real-life tragedy and trauma when it is necessary. She doesn't back away from tough subjects such as debilitating grief, addiction, and fear.

Phoebe Sinclair is a young woman who left behind a career she loved to embark on a new venture growing flowers on her grandfather's farm. She has dreams and business goals for the new business, and readers are treated to insight into her creative mind.

Heath Daniels is suffering in a world of hurt, but is desperately searching for a purpose in life that will help him overcome his personal traumas from the past. He is intelligent, helpful, and willing to work hard. His yearning to be accepted by others was heartbreaking at times.

The author has gifted readers a beautiful story filled with honesty, faith, and many examples of God's love in action. The book is completely clean in language and content.

Thank you in advance to the author, Hope Toler Dougherty, for providing a complimentary review copy through JustRead Publicity Tours. A positive review was not required or requested, and all words are my own.

Believe it or not, I’d been asked to review the first three books in the series, which I’d HOPED to do before now. They still need to be read. And, I say this also because the books are connected by the siblings and how they meet spouses, fiancées/fiancés.

So, this is the first book I’ve read by the author.

The books, in order:

#1 – Forever Music (Josie and Ches; 2020)

#2 – A Hatteras Surprise (Ben and Ginny; 2022 – Novella)

#3 – Forever Home (Sam and Merritt; 2022)

And, this one Forever Free, features Heath Daniels and Phoebe.

Returning from the series, if only briefly:

🏫 Josie

⚖️ Ches

🏦 Ben

🏖️ Ginny

📻 Sam

🎤 Merritt

This also has some potentially heavy themes – DUI (only inferred), alcohol addiction (Heath), drowsy driving fatality (Dayna’s death). These might be difficult for some readers.

Phoebe is at the hardware store and runs into Heath – he helps her load her truck, and remembers her as the bossy person at his sister Josie’s wedding. As it turns out, Phoebe was in charge of the flower arrangements. They accuse the other of making Josie cry, and Heath didn’t make a good impression on Phoebe.

Heath needs to be “doing” something outside of his work – and calls up the woman over a charity he has signed on with. She finds him a place at Honeysuckle Farms. He’s been sober for 5 years, proud of it, but is still tormented by guilt over a high school girlfriend’s death.

And, it is there he runs into Phoebe again. While her grandfather (Dempsey) owns it, Phoebe runs the farm and wants it. Dempsey realizes everyone has history, and accepts Heath.

It isn’t long until Heath starts offering some business suggestions to Phoebe – namely using social media to promote the business, as well as other fun events.

Despite his overbearing manner, Phoebe immediately likes Heath. But, he has no room for a relationship in his life. As soon as Josie sees Phoebe with Heath, she thinks he needs someone.

Even Phoebe’s grandfather is trying to tell Heath that perhaps God has something better in mind, or someone better. Heath denies it.

Starting to feel those old emotions, Heath asks the head of the charity to find something else, he cites personality conflicts. But, he decides to continue to honor the contract. He opts to keep distant with Phoebe.

Phoebe knows there is something going on, and wants to be his friend.

She soon learns, upon seeing him in a panic attack, that it is connected to a tragedy. He blames himself for the girl’s death. To honor her – he always has her favorite breakfast. This year, he forgot and feels horrible. He then tells Phoebe about his own accident and what followed.

Despite Phoebe’s good intentions in comforting her, Heath is angry at her. But, he apologizes. He also asks her to come with him to a dinner at his parents’ place.

Even though there are moments of his compassion, and his offers to help the business, Phoebe thinks he isn’t interested and tries to keep from being around him, although they work together for an event.

His business ideas are certainly helping the farm become profitable. While he is quick to anger, he does apologize. There are several incidents of will they/won’t they.

When Phoebe is successful with an event, she is quick to thank him. Only the incident pushes him over the edge and he chastises her.

He then finds his way to a place that he didn’t want to be in – but needs to be.

With everyone telling him to forgive himself and encouraging him to move on – he wonders if it is possible. And, if he deserves it.

Dougherty kept the romantic tension going until nearly the end which had me on the edge of my seat in this beautiful, inspiring, emotional, tragic, and realistic story. One that was gripping and even, at times, difficult to read.

This absolutely drew me right in and definitely held my attention. It wasn’t like those “just can’t stop” reading books, but it was one that I wanted to read through. The short chapters helped. But, also Dougherty didn’t lag the book along. It didn’t speed up either.

To be honest, I really didn’t like Heath throughout most of the book. Yes, he had his demons – but, he truly wasn’t responsible for Dayna’s death. She made a bad judgment call. It is something many of us DON’T think about. But, something I am only too keenly aware of. Being a single caregiver to my mother, I rarely get any sleep for any length of time.

So, I am VERY aware of the moments where I simply don’t feel safe enough to drive. Yet, there is not enough information out there about it. It’s interesting that even some health care professionals have snickered when I said something about being so tired that I didn’t feel safe behind the wheel.

I absolutely adored Phoebe and her compassion towards Heath. And, so many times I wanted to scream – “he isn’t worth it”. I swear that man frustrated me. There was one moment, towards the last third of the book that I completely despised him. His hot/cold routine with Phoebe did little to make me like him. I honestly felt Phoebe would be better off with someone else.

Overall, I did enjoy the book even when I was frustrated. It is a second-chance, friends-to-more, slow burn romance. Most of the real progress for the romance happens about 6% towards the end. And, like Phoebe, some readers might be shocked about Heath’s 180° turn.

This does have some elements of the Christian faith, but they are subtle and some readers may not notice these. Those who need the message contained in will no doubt find it.

As there has been some confusion over “clean” reads and “sweet” reads with regard to language, intimacy, and affection – I personally consider this a clean, no-spice read. Affection is merely limited to a kiss. There is no foul language either.

I am definitely going to be reading the other three books quite soon.

Those who’ve read the other books in this series won’t want to miss this one. And, those who enjoy clean, wholesome reads won’t want to miss it either.

I’d like to know if there is another book in the series so I can see how everyone else turned out. I’m definitely interested in reading her other work as well.

Hope Dougherty has written a great Christian romance novel that takes readers through realistic scenarios. The main male character, Heath, has had a tough life. A tragic event in his earlier years has sent him on a roller coaster of emotional turmoil, leading him to turn to alcohol for relief. Although he grew up attending church with his family, his relationship with God has been strained. Phoebe, the primary female character, is a brilliant woman with a college degree and aspirations of doing something great. However, she ends up scaling back her ambitions to help her grandpa on the farm. While she seems content with her decision, there may be something else she needs.

Heath and Phoebe know each other from high school but haven't seen each other in a while. When they reunite, they both feel a strong attraction to each other. However, they try to deny their feelings. Heath doesn't want to forgive himself for not getting involved with a woman in the past, and he tells himself that being single is God's plan for his life. He believes this because there are instances in scripture that show people who remain single, and God blesses them for it. Even the apostle Paul states that he wishes every Christian could remain single as he was, but he also acknowledges that most people will not be able to do so.

Phoebe also desires a relationship, but she dismisses the idea with Heath because it seems he doesn't want anything. It can be hard when we crave romantic relationships, yet others push us away. This reminds us that God has a plan for our romantic relationships, and we cannot force things that are not there. Instead, we must wait for His timing to push forward.
Dougherty has written an excellent novel based on faith, truthfulness, and the many facets of God’s love and how He interacts with His creations.

Heath and Phoebe are acquaintances that end up working together and it’s a slow burn romance that I wish was a little quicker. Though I have read other books in this series, this novel took me a bit to get into. I didn’t immediately feel vested in Phoebe and her big plans for the farm, though I did like the overall premise, which is what kept me reading on.

Though the character development was mostly there, there was nothing that kept me truly tethered to these characters. The plot felt too predictable and sadly I didn’t care enough about these characters to care about their plight for the majority of the novel. Both Heath and Phoebe’s stubbornness and emotions are all over the place, taking the reader on quite the emotional rollercoaster, almost to the point of me getting sentimental whiplash. I would’ve liked to have seen more focus on the events that happened at the farm as well as the world they inhabited, and a little less on Heath and Phoebe’s relationship, though I will say that the imagery was amazing and took me to a world that I have never had the opportunity to experience first-hand.

I loved seeing a happily ever after, but I do feel like the ending was rushed, which was disappointing, especially since there were several slower parts in the novel that needed a little extra oomph. After all we’ve went through with these two, I was craving more than a few brief paragraphs, but I will say it was still a satisfying conclusion, nonetheless.

All in all, this was a heartwarming story that takes you on quite the emotional journey, and it was a nice literary escape. The characters did eventually win me over and it was great to be in their world.

This is a beautiful story of redemption and forgiveness . I adored learning more about running a farm filled with flowers that bring beauty to the world. The characters oh my are they good. Phoebe and Heath are dynamic together. The author is very well versed in creating depth to her characters.

Phoebe has this dream to make Honeysuckle Farm a place to teach about flowers as well as sell them. It is hard work but she gets joy from hard work and being around her grandpa. I liked how she is persistent in making the farm a success yet she has flaws of being a bit unsure of herself. Her confidence is lacking but along the way maybe someone will be able to help her out.

Heath is not really a complicated character just has this guilt he carries around. An accident that happened years ago still affects him even today. He refuses to allow anyone to get close to him for fear of losing them. As he volunteers at Phoebe’s grandpa’s farm, they start to build a friendship. Heath needs to keep busy so he won’t slip back into drinking again.

I liked how Heath used his business background to help Phoebe develop programs to bring people to the farm. I would love to be there as the food truck set up and feel the excitement from the families as they get ready to watch fireflies dance in the sky.

What I like best about this story is how the author illustrates how our guilt can keep us locked up in depression, being alone and bottling up anger. Heath is harsh towards Phoebe at times which causes friction between the two. Surrendering to God is the only way to be free. The ending is sweet and shares how God can heal a broken heart while allowing forgiveness to happen.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Hope Dougherty has crafted a delightful romance in Forever Free. It is the fourth book in the series but I have not read all of the previous books. If you have read the previous books, you will probably recognize characters and have a little more prior information than I did. I appreciated the fact that I didn’t feel like I was missing any information - Dougherty includes everything the reader needs to know.
Since I love flowers I was really drawn in by the setting of this story - a farm where they raise flowers to sell. The characters are very real with very real problems that some readers will be able to relate to. Phoebe left a job she loved because of an unfortunate event. Heath has his own set of issues based on an event that happened years ago when he was in college. The story includes a lot of give and take between these characters, and angry words, as they get to know each other. The story is ultimately about forgiveness - forgiving ourselves and forgiving others.
Forever Free was written for the adult audience. There is at least one scene that has a description of some pretty passionate kissing. For this reason I recommend that K-12 Christian school librarians read the book themselves and decide if the book is appropriate for their audience. I did enjoy the book and may just go back and read the ones I haven’t read yet.
I received a complimentary copy of Forever Free. This is my honest review.

This story hit all the notes of a good old fashion love story with a bit of reluctance on the guy's part, until there isn't. Phoebe Sinclair is starting her business of a flower farm on her grandfather's farm. She has a lot of ideas that are great, she just doesn't have all the business issues worked out yet. She gets a little ahead of herself sometimes.

Heath Daniels is running from his demons, so he likes to work and work hard. Paid work or volunteer work doesn't matter to him. Just needs to work to keep his mind off of his past and stoically keeping what he believes his future should be. Singlehood. Until he and Phoebe not only butt heads, but she begins stirring unwanted feelings in his heart too.

Heath has a head for business and even though he can be a bit overbearing and a take control kind of guy, Phoebe needs him. Not only that, but she kind of wants something more from him. Both Heath and Phoebe try really hard to hide their attraction and just remain as friends. Good friends they are becoming too, but those pesky hearts and feelings of love keep popping up.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

Heath Daniels considers himself the black sheep of his family for several reasons. As a recovering alcoholic, he volunteers through Healing Steps to work at Honeysuckle Farm. The problem is, he’ll be working for Phoebe Sinclair on her cut flower farm. He first meets Phoebe at his sister’s wedding and considers her a control freak. She in turn pegs him as a grouch and spoiler and hesitates to trust him. But first impressions are often not correct. Once they get a peek beneath one another’s surface, they set aside their differences and work together. Phoebe is determined to make her flower farm a success. Heath has the business know-how and a strong back to help her. I imagined myself at Honeysuckle Farm watching Phoebe’s dream become a reality. I witnessed the growing attraction between Phoebe and Heath as they work together and grow in understanding of each other. But it isn’t a fairy tale romance. Heath is ensnared by past poor decisions, and Phoebe wants so badly to succeed that she doesn’t like to yield control to anyone. I love Phoebe’s match-making grandpa, Dempsey Stewart, who believes in true love and assists Phoebe in her flower farm dream. Forever Free is a sweet story with a strong faith and family message.

Christian Contempory Romance novels are one of my favorite genres. I have really come to enjoy books by Author Hope Toler Dougherty. Forever FREE is Book 4 in the Forever Series. I have read a couple of the other books in this series.

I dove right into this book and it truly is a wonderful and heartwarming story. I recognized some of the characters from previous books. This book was Phoebe and Heath's story. Phoebe Sinclair loves FLOWERS and Teaching and therefore her Flower Business is a perfect job for her. Heath Daniels is a friend of Phoebe's and he agrees to help her and volunteer at the Flower Business. The "budding" romance between the pair is not what either anticipated, but they can see how they make a good couple. Heath has always thought he would be single forever, he does welcome the relationship with Phoebe. Heath and Phoebe do have a battle to keep their relationship good, but they also rely on their Faith and God to help them overcome hurdles. The book is about Faith, LOVE and Healing, and so much MORE! I highly recommend to this to anyone who enjoys Christian Romance! BEAUTIFUL BOOK!

Forever Free is a heartwarming story that centers around Heath Daniels and his attempts to atone for the mistakes from his past. Working hard and staying busy seem the place to start but choosing to work with Phoebe Sinclair may not be his best choice. She also has issues, she needs to be in control, and it doesn't take long for the two of them to clash!

Honeysuckle Farm is a lovely setting and Phoebe and Heath are both great characters but the most endearing character for me has to be Phoebe's grandfather. Dempsey Stewart is a romance-loving, piano-playing optimist who isn't above matchmaking!

Guilt, grief, a return to faith, and the power of healing are just a few of the powerful topics in this inspiring story. This has been a wonderful series and I can't think of a better way for Hope Toler Dougherty to end it! I recommend Forever Free to all who enjoy contemporary Christian romance.

I have enjoyed reading the previous books from the Forever series from Hope Toler Dougherty and was looking forward to see what would be within the pages of the fourth installment, Forever Free. Even though it is part of a series, it can easily be read as a stand alone. It was a pleasure getting to know the main characters, Heath and Phoebe. I thought their story was sweet, fun and entertaining. A delight to read.
I am giving Forever Free four and a half stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean romantic fiction. I am curious to see if there will be more to come from the Forever series from Hope Toler Dougherty in the future.

Although I haven't read the entire series I did read book 3 so I was familiar with the characters and was glad to "see" them again. This book is heartwarming and deals with two characters that have very strong personalities. Heath is our leading man and is trying to atone for his past mistakes. Phoebe is a florist and a needs to be in control at all times. They both clash but are willing to put that aside in order to work together.

I absolutely loved Phoebe's grandfather and the way he tries to play matchmaker. This story deals with a lot of different things. Guilt, grief, faith and healing are a few of the topics that make this a wonderful inspiring story. If you enjoy Contemporary Christian Romances I would definitely add this author to your reading lists the way she integrates God throughout her stories is definitely faith building for the reader

Love blooms on a flower farm!

I was gifted a copy of this book, and I am thankful I had the opportunity to enjoy it. The synopsis was intriguing to me. It was my first read by this author, and it won’t be my last.

That it is set primarily at a flower farm was delightful and unique. I love flowers and could imagine the beauty of such a location. I enjoyed my visit at the Honeysuckle Farm!

The love story is a sweet, slow burn between two wonderful main characters who both lean on their faith to get through present and past challenges. My favorite secondary character was Grandpa Dempsey. What a sweetheart!

This book can be read as a stand alone although it is the 4th book in a series. I have not read the first 3 books. I will have to go back and do that.

I recommend this story!

Forever Free by Hope Toler Dougherty is a Contemporary Romance. This book is the fourth book in the Forever series. It centers around Heath Daniels and Phoebe Sinclair. He volunteers for manual labor to battle issues from his past. She works to combine her love of flowers with her love of teaching. When their worlds collide, their lives become interesting.

I love how the author develops both the characters and the storyline. While you could read this book independently, I recommend reading the books in order, so you appreciate how the characters develop throughout the stories.

So, watch Forever Free by Hope Toler Dougherty if you want a Contemporary Romance.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this one. I liked that Phoebe was able to set aside her pride and take Heath's help with her farm. The changes and improvements to the farm kept the story interesting! It was fun to have some scenes with both of their families, too. I did think the end needed more, like Heath starting therapy and working to repair relationships with his family. And Phoebe should have taken more time before trusting him (he yelled at her and stormed off and ignored her so many times!). But other than that, it was a heartfelt, touching story, with well developed characters. A nice end to the series.

Content: clean.

I absolutely loved the characters, especially Grandpa! Great characters that make you feel a part of their world. Their hardship and successes feel like your own. I loved the farm and all the activities Heath and Phoebe planned. I could see myself enjoying time at this venue. The romance between Heath and Phoebe has so much working against them but God has a bigger plan. The author does a beautiful job of weaving God's love, His healing, and goodness into the story. This is a beautifully written story and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Dougherty had me at "ranunculus." As a flower lover, I thoroughly enjoyed the wealth of accurate detail regarding flower raising in sequences--also the brainy seasonal gardening income possibilities. I marvel at the story's well-developed, realistic relationship choreography. I applaud Phoebe's spunky character depth and patience. She was no pushover, a fish not easily hooked. And Heath anguished through very relatable recovery steps to healing. Grandpa was also delightful. This book is a beautifully crafted masterpiece.

Forever Free is a delightful romance with compelling characters. Heath and Phoebe, each deal with challenges from the past, yet have a common goal to build a successful flower business at Phoebe’s grandfather’s farm. They don’t always agree, but discover along the journey that trials are easier to bear when shared and trust is the building block for friendship and love. Dougherty pulled me into the story and I felt their joy as, together, Phoebe and Heath successfully navigate the challenges of the flower business and recognize the power of forgiveness.

I was hopelessly enthralled by this book! Everything from the cut-flower farm, Heath and Phoebe's love story, his energetic family, to Grandpa and his love of Oreos. I looked forward to reading it like indulging in a favorite dessert. Every. Bite. Delicious. So sad when it ended. Turned the page, hoping for more, but no. Endearingly sweet. By turns flirty and intense. Hats off, Ms. Dougherty. Forever Free is the perfect story bouquet!

Loved this story. It is well written with wonderfully developed characters. It’s a beautiful love story about faith, trust, forgiveness and love. I loved seeing Phoebe and Heath’s relationship develop as they each battled their own personal issues. I loved see Grandpa helping them along the way. Seeing the characters work intensely for their dreams but also together was a joy to see and be a part. Definitely a must read!

The Forever series has been wonderful. I love following a family story!! Finally we got to hear Heath's story and it did not disappoint. Who doesn't want to love the "bad" boy. Although Heath doesn't really fall into that label, he does give the reader the excitement of seeing that sibling who isn't perfectly following the good son role. Everyone cheers for him!! Read it! You'll love it!!

Wonderful love story—unique and compelling plot

I read dozens of books each year, so it’s always a treat to read a unique plot. The hero is such a complex character, and readers will be rooting for him to be “Forever Free” from the chains of his past.

Dougherty does an excellent job with character development!

I really enjoyed Phoebe and Heath's story. The charachters were relatable and funny. There may have been a few tears as well as they worked towards sharing their feelings. Recommend to anyone that loves romance, or gardening, or the south, or faith based stories. The author keeps you wanting more. And I do! I want the Daniels family story to go on.
