Four and a half stars.

With quirky, collage-like, grunge-style illustrations, dab rhyme and deft rhythm, this is a great picture book about...

Three reviews from our CALEB reviewers:

(1) Children’s author, Kirrily Lowe has written another brightly illustrated rhyming verse hard cover book in the Invisible Tree Series – Patience.

Sammy receives a note from his Nanna to say she has posted him a parcel full of surprises from Egypt. Day after day Sammy waits for his parcel and day after day the post man fails to bring the parcel. Eventually Sammy discovers that waiting had helped him develop patience and that was a good thing.

Patience joins three previous Invisible Tree Series books Love; Joy; and Peace. All Invisible Tree Books have special appeal for pre-schoolers. DS

The books in this series are illustrating the Fruits of the Spirit. Sammy gets a letter from his Nanna promising him a parcel of surprises that should come soon. But it doesn’t come soon enough for Sammy. He tries all sorts of behaviour to help the parcel come quickly; asking nicely, stomping and even waiting. At last his patience grows enough and he can wait. And then the parcel comes!

It’s hard for children to wait, and Sammy had a hard time trying. I think that this little book illustrates the problems and rewards of trying to be patient very well.

The illustrations by Henry Smith are the hero of the story with the quirky materials and lovely details in collage. Very special. LS

Each title from The Invisible Tree series is a hard cover picture book that introduces young children to the fruits of the spirit. Patience is just one example and other titles in the series include; Joy, Peace, and Love.

A young boy waits for a parcel and struggles to learn patience – a virtue that finally arrives along with the post. KL

Patience is a children's picture book and is the fourth in The Invisible Tree series by Kirrily Lowe. The series is based on the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) and has the theme: "There is an invisible tree that lives inside of me. It wants to grow big and tall even though I am very small."

In this book, Sam has received a letter from his Nanna who is on holidays in Egypt. She tells him she has sent a parcel "full of lots of surprises" but now Sam has to be patient and wait for the parcel to arrive. Through the story Sam learns the value of patience.

It has a gentle rhyming style, like the others and doesn't actually mention God though on the back page lists the fruit of the Spirit.

Henry Smith has again done a great job of designing pictures and fonts to fit the message and style of the book.

A lovely read.

This is a delightful picture book by Kirrily Lowe and illustrated by Henry Smith. Patience is part of the Invisible Tree series which all start with "There is an Invisible Tree That lives inside of Me, It wants to grow Big and Tall, Even though I am very small." And each deals with a different aspect of the fruit of the Spirit.

Patience is first person, in the voice of the child. It starts "There is one thing that I need the most" 7 with a letter - Nanna is sending Sam a special parcel. He can't wait for it to arrive and in the process learns something about patience. While this one didn't catch my imagination as much as Love and Joy - it was still a lot of fun to read. And as with all these series, the book is delightfully illustrated. Henry Smith uses recycled materials to give a textured and layered look.
