Ruin #2.5

Fearless

Rate this book
When I met Kiersten, time stood still. It was as if every cell in my body screamed HER. I couldn't look away, I couldn't walk away, I couldn't even move. My other half, my soul mate, was staring right at me. I had to have her. I had to make her mine. But I felt selfish doing that--knowing that I may not have endless amounts of time to give her...and even now that every things' over with and I've been given that time back.

Nothing is ever certain in this life.

Which is why I'm about to do something crazy, impulsive, daring.
After all, what type of person would I be if I didn't take my own advice?
I'm jumping off the cliff, I'm living fearlessly.

This is the continuation of Wes and Kiersten's story.

Love in its definition isn’t about a strong feeling towards someone, but an action. If people truly understood what it was—our world would be changed. Love is sacrifice, it’s holding someone’s hand even though you know they can’t feel it.

Fearless is an epilogue novella for Ruin, and should be read after Toxic.

Very sweet and much less emotional than the first two. Once again, I should have learned my lesson and read instead of listened because the narrator that voices Wes gives me the blues!

I would recommend this to all fans of the series!

This book it’s like a big epilogue that show us what happens after the end of Ruin. If you remember the first book (and you probably do), you know what problems Wes went through and how Kiersten was there for him during all of it.
But even after all of it is the past, when you touched death so closely, some fears don’t just go away.
Hoping to put an end on all of the ghosts, Wes make a decision that will change their lives and guarantee that everything that can come of the future, they will face them together… and with no fear.

description

Okay, if I had to describe this book with just one word would be “cheesy”. And that’s pretty much it.

description

Rating: 3,5 Stars.
Storyline: Cute and nice to read but painfully cheesy and with to much philosophical sayings from the main characters. (Believe me, even the supportive characters say it!). It kind of ruined the book a little for me.
Writing Style: First person, dual POV. If it could cut the cheesy catch phrases a bit it would be an awesomely written.
Character Development: They’re both likeable characters but not “oh-my-God-I-Just-Love-Them” kind. They’re easy enough to like but nothing extreme. The supportive characters were good and I’m now pretty curious to read Lisa’s story.
Steam: Meh.

When I finished Ruin, I was happy with the book but not totally satisfied and that's when I knew I had to read this novella about the continuing story of Wes and Kiersten.

But let me tell you one thing, this book is sickening sweet...seriously. Wes has some tricks up his sleeve and performs a little magic on Kiersten...okay, a whole lotta magic. And it was sweet and romantic but just a "tad" overkill.

description

I did like how everything wrapped up and now I am satisfied...thankfully. ;)

I do have to admit that I didn't read Gabe's book, Toxic, so I did get a few spoilers but I knew I probably would. It does make me curious about his story.

And there is a lot of set up for Lisa's book, Shame, and I am curious enough to put it on my to-read list.

3.5--Mushy--Stars!!

Well that was a big ole fat mush fest....full of hearts and rainbows and unicorns.

Definitely a bit OTT and kind of reminds me of my co-worker who thought as married women we sat around in our husband's laps while they fed us strawberries and gave us foot massages.

Needless to say, it doesn't exactly realistically depict life but whatever...it's a book. We can all dream right?

So if you're a fan of Wes and Kiersten and the over abundance of love in the air, then I definitely recommend giving this "extended epilogue" a go.

I also thought it kind of served to set things up for Lisa's book.

MUSH TO THE MAX!

Odes of love in this novella just went on and on. I usually do complain about unnecessary drama but this was one big “I love you feast” and I have be honest, it’s a short story and I skimmed.

How many ways can the author describe how these two love each other?

Small Fact:
This story was 100 pages and the word HEART was used 77 times!

description

So Wes and Kirsten get their hea and I can confirm they are happy and in love. Wes’ surprises were great but the one big one as to location I have to be honest I didn’t love.

Gabe played a small role in this story but his present was so sweet. Lisa has a few random chapters and light is shed on what her story will be about.

”How easily we give our heart away even with the knowledge that in another person’s hands you are the most vulnerable you will ever be.”Wes Michels

Even though I didn't love this story, I did love Ruin and Toxic and am anxiously awaiting Lisa's story.

I absolutely loved the parts with Wes and Kiersten. Wes is such a romantic and their love is epic. I could have done without the snippets of Lisa. It messed up the flow for me.

An extended epilogue to Wes and Kiersten's story.

My 3 star rating is not to say it was bad. It was okay, but a bit sickenly toothache sweet. It was one of those "feel, touching, life" type books which sadly isnt my favourite to read seeing I dont have much of a heart. I liked that we got a bit of Lisa in preparation for her book.

I wasnt a huge Wes and Kiersten fan in book 1 so if you are, Wes in this novella will have you swooning. If you got an hour to spare I would recommend you give this book a go.

... And they lived happily ever after.

Fearless gives us the epilogue that we desperately needed, Wes & Kiersten have had their share of doom & gloom laced with miracles and finally they get to close the chapter on the heartache and start their story.

For those of us that fell in love with these two, that cried and laughed with them - this is also our story; our new beginning. The start of this story had me remembering every moment that occurred in Ruin, just having those thoughts still roaming around in my head had me on the verge of crying all over again. I love this couple and their story.

This was a very sugary-sweet novella; I didn't expect it to be more than that. I expected that after all the tears we shed during Ruin that this would be our gift for surviving it, and it was.

But what I really enjoyed was getting the glimpse into Lisa's story. With Shame due to be released June 2014 we get a small taste of what secrets lurk in her past. With the twist of events that took place during Gabe's story in Toxic (Ruin Book 2), I need Lisa's story even more than ever before.

This is a must-read for fans of Ruin, and more specifically – fans of Wes and Kiersten. I found Ruin to be a little overly intense with the emotion, and that same feeling is picked up here, but it’s angst-free and all about the love, and it’s all very blissful and romantic.

“Every day that goes by when I don’t get to share every single moment with you…is like waiting to die all over again”.

I did have one massive moment of WTF - . But other than that, it is beautiful (probably leaning towards excessively mushy), and Wes proves that he is pretty much a perfect man with all that he does for Kiersten – all the while constantly spouting swoony lines of love before FINALLY giving us a bit of steamy time.

“We don’t know what’s going to happen, but I can make a promise to you right now. Your hand’s going to be in mine the entire time. Kiersten, I swear to never let you go … I’m yours.”

Told in dual POV, we get both Wes and Kiersten’s take on this next stage in their relationship. There is even a couple of chapters from Lisa’s POV, providing us with a somewhat scary intro to her story in the next book, and make sure you read Toxic first, in order to avoid spoilers for Gabe’s story.

A really sweet one for the fans – 3 stars.

Why do authors think it’s a thing now to kill me with novellas? They shouldn’t be as beautiful and breathtaking and awesome as normal length books people! But they are. They really are. I’m in love with this novella. It’s Rachel Van Dyken’s writing for one. Then it’s a continuation of Wes and Kiersten’s story, one of my all-time favorite book couples.

“I want you. I want you right now. I want you in every way a man could want a woman. I want you every second of every day. I want to give you my name. I want to live with you. I want to take care of you.., I want to hold you in my arms and never let go—even waking up in the morning with our bodies intertwined, won’t be enough for me.”

So, basically this review is going to be impossible to write. I pretty much highlighted the entire novella. I don’t think you guys understand how impossibly in love I am with Wes Michels. He says the most insightful, philosophical, ROMANTIC things. Ever. He’s all alpha male and he’s all in love with Kiersten. And I’m just freaking in love with him, okay? Rereading Ruin and Fearless put me in book hangovers each time. Just because it’s Wes. And he and Kiersten have one of the most beautiful, adorable, heart-melting love stories ever.

“He’d given me his heart a long time ago—and now I was giving it back, not because I didn’t want it. But because I wanted to share it. With him. Forever.”

We didn’t get a really big epilogue at the end of Ruin. Honestly, I was okay with that. Wes beat the cancer and then he proposed to Kiersten in front of who knows how many people. But, then THIS. My life wasn’t complete without this novella. Seriously. Even if this isn’t the end of the series, I was so happy to be inside Wes and Kiersten’s heads again. And I would definitely read this after Toxic. It has some of Gabe, Saylor, and Lisa. Oh, and it’s a hugeee set up for Lisa’s story. Which is next. And I already know it’s going to be killer.

“I love you. Just in case you weren’t aware.”
“I’m aware. With every word that comes out of your month. Damn Kiersten, if all you did was say nonsense all freaking day. If you talked gibberish but still looked at me the way you’re looking at me now—I’d know. I’d know without a shadow of a doubt that you were mine.”

Wes and Kiersten are more adorable than ever. I don’t want to spoil what happens in the novella, but prepare to bawl your eyes out. I was tearlessly sobbing again. They’ve ruined me! They just get each other, you know? Even if it’s been awhile and Wes is totally in the clear, they still appreciate every day they have together. They are still thankful that they are together.
They don’t even have to really communicate, at least with words. They’re perfectly in tune with each other. They have the hottest intimate moments (which is a bonus since we didn’t get much in Ruin). They say the sweetest things to each other. And you know they’ll be together forever and ever. And really, what more could you ask for in a love story?

“Girl runs into boy... Girl feels up boy. Boy chases girl. Girl—decides she wants to be chased. Boy gets very sick. Girl—sticks by his side. Boy and girl…fall asleep holding hands, and he tells her that even death couldn’t keep him from a lifetime of her smiles. Boy lives. Girl lives. They lived. So LIVE.”

This was a novella about Wes and Kiersten. I first met Wes and Kiersten in TOXIC which is Gabe and Saylor’s story. Both, Wes and Kiersten are very likable characters. They were just easy to love. No drama, just love. We saw some of Gabe and Saylor. However, what I really like were the scenes with Lisa. See we get Wes, Kiersten, and Lisa’s POV in this book. Lisa’s story, I cannot wait to read. I love the whole mystery behind her story and who this mystery man was and “is” in her life.
You can read this book in one sitting. Very romantic and very sweet. Wes goes out of his way to make the love of his life happy and Kiersten is surprised that he has captured the heart and soul of Wes who she thinks is the most beautiful man she ever laid eyes on.

There are these beautiful verses before each chapter. Rachel Van Dyken did a great job writing this book about two very lovable characters. I know this is short, I just wish there was a little bit more to the story. Otherwise, nice job.

After reading the first book in this series, I just had to read this one to catch up with Wes and Kiersten.

It's very short, and essentially just covers their wedding but I loved it. I am also totally intrigued now about Gabe and Saylor (really should have read that book before this one but I'll backtrack) and dying to uncover the mystery that is Lisa and her dark past.

My only complaint is that the language Wes uses is a bit unbelievable for a bloke - way too flowery and emotional. He was like that in the first book to a certain extent, but it was overdone here. Still, it's only a minor point.

Great series. Great author.

I didn't think I could love Wes any more than I already did. BUT OMG!!! So loved this book. It fills in some of the gaps that were left for Wes and Kiersten that take place during Toxic. You don't have to read Toxic to know what is going on but it helps.

SERE RUIN n. 2.5

"Fearless" was a beautiful, heat warming novella that gave us the next chapter in Wes and Kiersten,'s story. I fell in love with this couple at the start of this series and couldn't wait to see what was in store for them:
"He'd given me his heart a long time ago-and now I was giving it back,
not because I didn't want it. But because I wanted to share it with him. Forever. "

Wes and Kiersten had already been through so much together, more then most couple's go through in a lifetime but the journey they had traveled had made their relationship stronger and had created a bond that was unbreakable. They were true soul mates. The obstacles they'd overcome to be together had taught them one thing: live for today because tomorrow was never a given and so that's what they intended to do.
"I've spent my entire life being patient, Kiersten. I've spent my life waiting. Waiting to live, waiting to die, waiting to hear good news, waiting to hear bad news. And for once, I really, really, want to be selfish and screw the whole waiting process."

The majority of this novella was told from either Wes or Kiersten's POV but I also got hear from Lisa. A few of the chapters were told from her perspective and I got to know a little bit more about her character and her past. This is one story I'm really looking forward to reading and will be the third book in the series entitled "Shame". Lisa is the only one who is yet to find her happy ever after and I'm hoping she gets one too!

Rachel Van Dyken sure can write a good love story. "Fearless" was romantic, sweet and made me giddy. It was filled with beautiful words that had me swooning at every page that I read.
"I can't explain. I wish I could. I wish there were words I could use, really big words, pretty words, words words that would make you swoon and cry all at once. But all I have is this...I am yours and you are mine."

I loved everything about this novella. It made my heart melt into a big puddle on the floor. If you have read "Ruin" and "Toxic" then this one is a must, if you haven't read "Ruin" then what the hell are you waiting for? Get clicking!! "Fearless" gets 4.5 dreamy hearts from me!

Who does not want a little more Kiersten, Wes, Gabe, Saylor, and Lisa? If you have not read Ruin and Toxic yet, stop now and yo read them!! Fearless is not a stand alone, it is a continuation of an amazing series.
"...I love you. My heart's been yours since the minute you needed it to beat for you..."
Wes Michels is ready to start really living life now that he has been granted a second chance at living. He is ready to be crazy, impulsive, and daring and he wants Kiersten to be right there with him.
"...You stopped my heart the day I met you - restarted it- and gave it a new rhythm. You are my heart..."
Kiersten loves Wes, he is her everything, her soulmate, her forever. But she is still struggling with the fact that she came close to losing him. It consumes her at times to the point of being rendered frozen.
"...I don't feel complete when I look at you but like a total mess of emotions, like I have no control over anything except for the fact that I know with a fierce determination that you were made for me and I was made for you..."
Can Wes surprise Kiersten and get her to agree to his impulsive and crazy idea? Can Wes help Kiersten come to terms and move past her fears of almost losing him forever? Can they both live and love each other together fearlessly?
"...You are more rare than the rarest of jewels. I'd search the world for you. If I lost you, if you lost me, I'd never stop searching. ..for the gift, for you, not the King, but the treasure is you..."
Rachel Van Dyken has completely done me in again. This novella is truly a beautiful, soul touching work of art. Wes is truly one of the most incredible male characters ever written. Not only does Wes make you love him but he makes you fall in love with the whole idea of love. This story also gives you more Gabe. Wes may make you feel the truest most beautiful side of love but Gabe makes you laugh and enjoy the flirty side. Rachel also gives you more of a glimpse into Lisa's life and story and she leaves you in anticipation for the next book coming this summer. This is truly one of the best series ever written and I give it a Nerd Alert A++ or 5 stars!

Elena's review:

“You stopped my heart the day I met you, re-started it, and gave it a new rhythm. You are my heart.”

It’s no secret that Weston Michels is one of my favorite male characters ever. And his incredible love story with Kiersten, which is told in Ruin, is one that touches the soul.

Fearless is the continuation of Wes and Kiersten’s story. It’s a short, sweet and sexy novella that needs to be read after Toxic.

In Fearless the attention goes back to Weston and Kiersten. After Ruin, we saw them in Toxic, where they helped Gabe and Saylor deal with life changing experiences, and now they go back to being the protagonists. When I finished Ruin, I didn’t want to let Wes and Kiersten go, and I wanted to see how things between them would progress. This novella is exactly what I had hoped for.

“You stopped my heart the day I met you. You re-started it, and gave it a new rhythm. You are my heart.”

This book was so sweet and romantic, and a needed breather after Toxic and before shame. I needed a light novel to help me deal with the pain of those two. This book was also a nice, big epilogue of their story.

Storyline:I won’t spoil the story, but let me tell you that it’s light, and an easy read. So you won’t dislike this book. Because it was sweet, a nice ending and sooooo romantic. I really liked it!

Title: Their love showed me how fearless love can be, I think that this book fits this title perfectly!

Cover:The cover seems a bit dark, but it wasn’t like that, at all. I really think that their could’ve been a lighter one!

Ending:I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it!!! I really did!

I’m giving this book 5 stars!! I’m sure there won’t be a book that follows their story, but I did like this nice, big epilogue.

You know how I loved RUIN so much.
But this long epilogue, made wonder if my blood sugar would make me having Type 2 Diabetes...
Seriously, people...Wes and Kiersten just like those very happy - dreamy - too good to be true - couples all the time.
And all that monologue was just made me thinking, if Fearless longer than this, I think I'll have to puke.

And all those mushy mushy lovey dovey Wes and Kirsten, just...well...just an okay read to me. Not special and can't make me WOW!
And this short novella, even short, bored me. No offense.

The only part that was interesting was when Lisa met Taylor, that's it!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Fearless tells the story of Wes and Kiersten getting married. There's also little snippets of Lisa's upcoming story to get you hooked, like I had a chance, on it too.

This is such a sweet and heartwarming book that reminds me so much of Ruin and how much in love those two are. The book may be short but it definitely had me hooked from beginning to end. Rachel definitely has me hooked in this series and I am so anxious to read Lisa's story.

My favorite quote in the entire book:

'He held out his hands and whispered, "Where we thought we may see the end -"
"- we write 'The Beginning'." I finished.

I loved Ruin and was excited to read more about Wes and Kiersten. This novella is the story of their wedding as well as an introduciton to Lisa's character. The next book in this series will be about Lisa and I am looking forward to reading it.

This book is all about Wes' love for Kiersten. I will say this there is no way any real life man could beat Wes, he has got to be the most romantic man ever written. The words he speaks are amazing and you completely understand why his perfection drives his friends crazy sometimes. How do you compete with that.

This is the story of true love.

Another book with my man. What more can I ask? Of course the rest of the gang was present, but I will focus on my man. He is wise, smart, generous but most importantly, he is perfect for Kiersten (and for the rest of the female population, I might add). He and Lisa planned the most amazing wedding. Besides Kiersten and Wes's wedding there was a second sub storyline that is an intro to Lisa's story. We get her point of view and there is some info about her past. Her life reminds me of pretty little liars and I will be waiting (im)patiently for Shame to come.

Okay, even though Wes was a little mushy in this one, I loved it! Besides didn't he earn the right to be mushy after all he had been through..... so much to be thankful for and such a great love with Kiersten!

What I loved best though, Gabe's letter to them with "their story"...... that was fantastic!!! I cried like a baby!

And we get a little peek of Lisa, whom I am completely intrigued by.... and did you see that cover for Shame? She's gorgeous! Moving on to Shame now!
