"I have to quiet the voices in my head somehow." She says with a laugh. Many a night she has been awakened by those voices, only to feverishly write down the gist of their clammering so she can flesh out (sometimes literally lol) the story later at a more respectable hour.

**2.5 stars**

Sometimes the Goodreads ratings are a tricky thing because, while 2.5 might look bad to some people, I'm really and truly saying that this book was somewhere between "It was okay" and "I liked it". It was pleasant enough and, though I had some issues with it, I think many readers would enjoy this story.

This book has a few positives that are worth mentioning (aside from that dedication to Eric Arvin and T.J. Klune that just tugged on my heartstrings). I think the premise is a good one- A closeted guy fighting his own fear of coming out versus his boyfriend's need for a relationship in the open. I liked the bones of the story, if that makes sense. However, the execution was a bit... distracting.

I'm not a fan of time jumps in my stories. I much prefer things to play out in a linear fashion and for events to unravel over time. This book jumps back and forth between various points of the past and the present, along with switching POVs from time to time. I find this method of storytelling to be a bit disconcerting and it makes it more difficult for me to get into the narrative. In addition, I thought the the writing style veered towards formal or stilted at times. I can't pinpoint exactly what about the language that bothered me, but it wasn't an easy story to sink into.

On a personal taste note, I tend to prefer stories that show the relationship as it is beginning and seeing a slow-burn romance developing. I'm not one for established couple stories (unless it is part of a series) and this is definitely an established couple story (except for one scene in the beginning). I also had some issues with the ending. I wanted more emotion, more apologies or something out of Jeremy. He caused years of pain for Graham and I think the conflict was resolved too easily.

Like I said, I think this was a decent story but it just wasn't memorable or special for me in particular.

When I first read this blurb I thought it would be a very emotional story. Two men in love and committed to each other but torn by irreconcilable differences.
I was also hoping for some major groveling, because I am a huge fan of a good grovel.

It's told in flashbacks between four years prior and two years prior, one year prior and present day.
So we start the story pretty much at the end of their relationship and see how it slowly disintegrated.
We get both Jeremy's and Graham's POV, which I always like. It helps me understand both of these men and I could see they were both really suffering because of the end of their relationship.
Graham is out and has been since he was a teen, but Jeremy isn't and really doesn't see anyway he can be. He fears for his job, his family's reaction and other consequences.
It causes more and more friction between the men, despite them being very much in love.
“Graham had never thought he’d find the man he was destined to spend the rest of his life with, but he had and he couldn’t be happier. He quickly pushed the dissatisfaction that Jeremy wouldn’t come out of the closet to the back of his mind, something he did every time the thought crept up on him.”

I felt for both men, I completely understood Graham, he couldn't keep pretending Jeremy is nothing more than a friend and Jeremy refuses to even talk about why he isn't going to change the situation. I also felt for Jeremy, he's afraid, he won't even think about the possibility of coming out, he's almost paralyzed by the fear of the unknown consequences.
“He loved Jeremy more than anything, but how were they to live happily together if the only place they could be themselves was behind closed doors?”

Unfortunately the way the story was told, with the flashbacks and the somewhat formal language, the lack of contractions (“I have something I need to tell you, and it cannot wait.” “He’d taken a taxi over so his car would not give away he was here.”)kept me at a distance.
Also the couple was apart for most of the story, suffering and bemoaning the loss of the other but again I just didn't feel as much as I had been hoping to. Then the resolution was actually a little anticlimactic and there was no groveling, all that left me feeling a little let down.

Yes, it was an ok-read. The story itself would have been very interesting and enjoyable, only the writing style didn't really work. For me it was rather irritating. I have no problem with flashbacks, but here they jumped around and on top of that the POVs with them.

Topics where scratched on, then stuff was left out (do we learn about the profession of Graham? Besides that he got fired and needed a new job? What's with Susan's husband? She was pregnant again with her 3rd child and hubby was just mentioned in passing that as he married into the family he wasn't as open to them being gay? WTH??? Did I miss something? Does this even make sense?) The more I think about it, the more harebrained it gets.

Thankfully it was a rather short story, only that made each chapter that much shorter and the jumps that much more irritating. Add to that a rather detached writing style, so for me the whole thing felt rather lifeless.

Angsty, but fluffy too, this is a short novella about a man fearing coming out of the closet and losing his lover because of it. While the story itself rang true, the timeline had some issues, and the resolution was a bit too easy for my taste. Also, where did the roommate go? Nice writing though, and I loved the dedication!

When Jeremy and Graham first meet the sparks fly and they begin a passionate and loving relationship. Graham is out and proud but Jeremy is deep in the closet, their relationship suffers as the strain on Graham hiding his love becomes too much and after three years together he can no longer take it. Jeremy knows that the only way to get Graham back is to come out of the closet but his fears holds him tight, can Jeremy face his fears and admit his true self to his friends and family or is the fear he feels stronger than his love for Graham?

This is a great story of two men finding a perfect love but who are driven apart by the fears of one of them. The story switches from the past to the recent past and the present; it also switches perspectives between Graham and Jeremy so we can see both sides of the story clearly. Graham is a wonderful man who is out and proud, he is loving and affectionate and knew getting involved with a closet case might be a mistake but he can’t resist the sexy man. Jeremy is sweet and gentle and deeply in the closet, growing up with a bigoted family has him fearing coming out and when you add in that he teaches first grade he is terrified of losing his job. Their relationship suffers as Jeremy refuses to even acknowledge Graham in the outside world and won’t even consider relaxing around Graham’s family, but Graham’s had enough and Jeremy has some serious soul searching to do.

This really is a lovely story of true love, acceptance and conquering fears. We feel for both Jeremy and Graham as we see the full story unfold before us, we understand Graham’s frustration and hopelessness and we sympathise with Jeremy’s fears. You have to admire a man who won’t let go of his convictions no matter how hard and painful it is and Graham is such a man, walking away from Jeremy and trying to get on with his life was admirable but you know his heart shattered every day. Jeremy let his fear rule him and even though it broke his heart when Graham left him he couldn’t overcome the fear, but taking a chance might just lead to many surprises.

Seeing Jeremy and Graham together and finally getting their happy ever after was wonderful but it was the love they had for each other even while going through the hard times that shines through. They never gave up on their love or became resentful; they really hoped that the other would find the love they deserved even while it tore them to pieces. When Jeremy finally weighs up his love against the fears you breathe a sigh of relief and when he forces himself past those fears it is brilliant. I really loved Graham because he never threw it in Jeremy’s face; he just let it go and moved on accepting the second chance they got.

I recommend this to those who love contemporary romance, an intense love that won’t be forgotten, understanding and forgiveness, overcoming fears for love and a very happy ending.

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

This short story was hovering between 4 and 5 stars for me but it such a poignant read I am giving it the full 5.
The dedication in this book is to TJ and Eric and is beautifully written. I think we are all aware what a tough time their love story has taken recently.
For You is a story about two men with a love so
deep and real that they fight the worry, the fear, the
unknown, the anger, and the obstacles to be together. Just
as TJ and Eric fight.
This dedication is for them…
When Jeremy and Graham meet briefly on a sports field the chemistry is instant. This is the story of their love over a 4 year period. I’m not always a fan of books that jump from one time period to another but in this story it really works well and leaves us with a clear insight into how a relationship can break down.
Jeremy is very deeply closeted when they first meet which is the polar opposite of Graham. Even knowing this Graham is enamoured with the other man. Within 6 months they are living together. Behind closed doors their life is full of passion but outside Jeremy acts as though they are barely friends. All the time Graham is convinced that Jeremy will take that last important step in recognising him.
Jeremys situation will wrench your heart. To have to live in fear of your sexuality and how people will see you or leave your life is heart breaking. He builds it up inside his head so that is all encompassing and slowly destroying his relationship. Graham who is initially supportive finds it more and more difficult to live this secret life. The longer it goes on the worse the arguements are and the deeper the hurt.
It finally comes to a point where Graham can’t stand it anymore and just walks away. Only it is never just walking away when you love someone so deeply. Even with the two men living separate lives the same demons and doubts still haunt them. Jeremy knows in his heart there is only one way to get his lover back but the perceived ‘ wrong’ of his relationship is so deeply ingrained that he doesn’t know if he has the strength required to fix things. The only problem with that is the thought of life without Graham scares him even more.
This story is a tough lesson in why we should live and let live and be more accepting of people.

The first thing, in my opinion, that’s really important to know when you decide to read this story is that it is told with the use of flashbacks. The reader gets transported between moments from three years back to one year back to two years back and the present moments.

It didn’t really work for me, I’m afraid. Why? Because the story is being told in a very businesslike manner. There’s not much conversation and it\s like the things happening between main characters Jeremy and Graham are being summed up.

That being said, the premise of the story is very nice. When I read the blurb it really caught my interest and I honestly believe there could have been much more to this story. There are some missed opportunities and things not being said or used, especially the interaction between Jeremy ( JJ ) and Graham.

The main characters are there and even the side characters are there to be used to help make the story go more smoothly and more compelling.

Let me make clear though this story has definitely attractive things in it. The characters are clear and they could be called likable. The romance is there in little pieces and even the hotness is there especially in the end.

The end is what made me rate this story at an even 3 stars.

I liked how the author brought the main characters together, the way they made amends with their lives, with what happened and how the deal was made.

If you are looking for a nice story with a spot of drama and a nice HEA . You will appreciate this one.

TJ and Eric... this dedication is For You.

Short, Sexy and Steamy. My three favourite colors! Add to that the heart warming dedication to TJ Klune and Eric Arvine and how can you loose with this short story?!

Jeremy is a teacher and the softball coach for Graham’s nephews little league team. Graham is taken with Jeremy from the second he lays eyes on him, and judging by the smile that lights up his green eyes and makes those dimples appear, Jeremy is just as taken with Graham. But Jeremy is in the closet, deep in the closet. And Graham recently ended a relationship because his lover refused to acknowledge him publically. Can he go through that again? Is the electric and immediate connection he and JJ share enough to stay hidden?

JJ is fearful of what will happen if he comes out. The response from his ultra conservative family and the people at the school he teaches at. So he continues to convince Graham they have to keep their relationship a secret. But secrecy has a price. Soon they go from a loving, caring, happy couple to fighting and arguing almost daily because JJ refuses to show any type of feeling when they are in public. Then the unthinkable, Graham moves out, leaving JJ heartbroken and confused.

This really was a heartfelt story about being true to ones self, and remembering that your actions have consequences that affect not only you, but the people around you as well. Especially those that love you. What is that old saying, “we always hurt the ones we love.” That is assuredly fitting for this story. My only complaint is that the story itself was way too short, I wanted more details on some things that were glossed over. But overall the story was a well written, fast, fun read about just being who you are.

True love means cooperation and compromise, not just saying "I love you" over and over.

When Graham Hamlin and Jeremy Jarrelle meet at Graham's nephew's Little League game, they immediately feel a bond. But Graham also realizes that Jeremy hasn't come out yet and after having one disastrous relationship with a closeted man, he doesn't particularly want to pursue another one.

However, when Jeremy asks Graham to go out for coffee after the next baseball game, Graham decides to give him the benefit of the doubt. So begins their three-year relationship.

The story jumps from vignette to vignette in the past until finally ending in the present and future. Along the way, readers will become annoyed at how two seemingly adult men can ignore the obvious in order to wallow in their self-pity, self-righteousness and self-doubt for a year before one of them capitulates and does what the other demands.

Graham gets so sick of being Jeremy's little secret that he eventually moves out of the house they rent together. Instead of treating Graham as a good buddy when they're together in public, Jeremy shuns him, pretending he doesn't even know Graham because Jeremy thinks he will break down and inadvertently show affection for his lover. Instead of working together for a solution so they can be happy and stay together, they are too busy airing their own sides of the argument.

Readers will immediately recognize that this is a situation that calls for cooperation and compromise, and maybe just a little counseling, too

This book is told switching between past and present time as well as changing point of views of the main characters. Nothing to worry about here I could easily follow the story.

It´s a short story so you can´t expect a full account of what happened between the main characters, but I think the author did a good job with telling it through the switching of time periods and you get a good overview of what went wrong. As Graham and Jeremy lost each other and had to piece themselves together again I suffered with them. The pain they felt was palpable and they had to endure a lot of it.

The only thing that really bothered me was the solution. It was too rushed and I felt like I missed some important parts of it. On the other hand the epilogue was a nice addition to the story and tied loose ends together.

If you like to read about an established couple who loses each other and have to overcome a few obstacles before they get their HEA this story may be for you.

While the story was good and the characters likable and relatable, the execution sometimes fell a little flat for my tastes. That said, Jeremy's struggle with being deeply closeted is a real one that a lot of people face in today's intolerant society. Graham's decision to eventually leave is also a real one, one that takes guts to make.

A sweet, sad, and sometimes aching story, For You is a nice, short read.

A nice story, but I thought it could have had a little more towards the ending, with the characters getting together again. It just seemed to be ahh.. they've met again and there back together and that's it, no talking about the year/s apart etc.

Great short

This was a great short story. It definitely packed a punch, I caught myself choking up several times and hope that there will be more about this couple. I would recommend this book.

The dedication was the best part of this book. It did pull on my heartstrings a little with the angst but the resolution...to fast, too cheesy. Maybe it's just me?!?
