Hissa Warrior #9

Trusting Warik

Rate this book
Nisha is a human woman full of secrets. Warik is a Hissa warrior skilled at uncovering them. With many innocent lives at stake, they're going to need to trust each other with more than the truth. NishaNisha was tasked with protecting the Decanting technology her mother had developed as a young, eager scientist back on Earth. When her mother realized her knowledge and life’s work was being used to create slaves, she left Earth far behind and took all her secrets with her. Decades later and years after her mother’s death, Nisha has a new mission. A heartless Earth corporation has set up shop far from Earth’s solar system. They are getting ready to Decant their first round of human-hybrid babies to sell off as slaves to anyone with the money to buy them. Her mother might be gone, but Nisha is determined her legacy won’t be used for evil again. She’s only one woman. How can she stop a powerful corporation? There are rumors that a species called the Hissa buy Decanted humans and set them free. If that’s true she might be able to convince these Hissa to help. Past betrayals and disappointments make Nisha wary, but she doesn’t have much of a choice. WarikWith over two hundred thousand Hissa males left alive and only handfuls of Decanted women being found every year, Warik is under no illusion that he’ll ever have a mate. As a skilled investigator, he’s prepared to spend his life tracing the sales of Decanted women so the Hissa military can rescue them and bring them back to Hissa. It’s a lonely life, but the work is important. He’s given an assignment to meet with a mysterious human. This woman claims to have information on an illegal Decanting lab and he needs to assess the validity of her claims. He expects to meet a greedy, self-centered human. What he gets is a woman desperate to save innocent lives and unsure whom she can trust. He’s determined to be the Hissa she decides to trust.

Trusting Warik

The Hissa are not my favorite alien savior dudes. But I'll read almost anything by this author. Their masculinity is just so fragile. I think part of this is just a personality trait of these guys and part of it is that they are living through a species wide trauma. Plus the whole fated mates thing makes them desperate, irrational, and temperamental.

The MFC is the grounded one in this relationship. She spends most of the book trying to get him to use his words like an adult. At one point, she says,

“I promise, the last time I deliberately attempted to hurt someone’s feelings was back when I was ten. Dorfen said I was stupid for tripping, and I told him his family hoped he was infertile because then they wouldn’t have to worry about him having children and insulting their lineage with inferior genetics.”

She is the one with the emotional intelligence to speak grown up distinctions. It's really a little difficult to understand what she sees in him.

I loved the AI character and the addition of Malk. His quote about his family and his people totally resonated with the modern day U.S.,

“Your people are like mine,” Malk said softly to Nisha. “I love my family, but I don’t trust my people."

Loved it!

I've binged through this series pretty quickly. It's been very good thus far! I love that the last few books are providing some unique main characters and we get to delve more into the overall story arc without it being the same ole drama. I do wish that the author would attempt to build out our future main characters prior to their story. I have absolutely no interest in Nova's story...I don't know her. But I'm dying to read about Gilor since we've gotten to know him through the other books. It makes a difference in longer book series and gives you investment in the next part of the tale.

I loved Shift as a character and hope she gets more time on the pages (not sure about her as a FMC since that's not really my trope) but she's funny and a good comic relief in the stories!

As lastly, I do wish we saw a little more interaction between some of our favorite previous main characters. I want some guest appearances that aren't just a passing mention. Especially if it would allow me to see more about the world development on Bicoma or Hissa. We spent so much time fighting for the council in the earlier books.....what does society look like now? Do we have human representation on the council, are we building schools, what are these human women doing beyond their HEA to make this world their home.

It's a lot of asks for a book, but if the author wants the series to continue I think these are fulfilling for longer book series.

Anyways great series! Well worth the read!

Spicy, male female, 3rd person dual point of view, paranormal romance. This was a fun adventure and I loved all of the characters (there was a really entertaining side character). The main couple were lovely and really I enjoyed watching their relationship grow. I haven't read the others in the series (yet) and wasn't lost, but I could tell this is an interconnected series. I plan on starting on the first book right now as I found the worldbuilding and premise engaging. ❤️

This is my first by this author and I have to say I enjoyed it! I have not read the rest in the series yet, but you didn't have to to understand what's doing on on the book. The relationship between our main character's is sweet. I can't wait to read the rest of this series!

I really didn’t enjoy the male in this book at all. He was sullen and uncommunicative. If you wanted a man like this, you would have picked a human, one to ignore you and put his own needs first. Did not enjoy this at all.

Good read❤💞

Nisha and her AI Shift are found out by Warik. (AI's are illegal). But three form a family and then add Malk. There is a wonderful dynamic to the story so buckle up and enjoy the ride. Enjoy

Warik is a sweet character but has a hard time showing emotion. He's lost a lot and found that shutting down his feelings helped him cope. Then he met Nisha. Nisha is smart, kind, and is attracted to Warik. Together they are going to rescue more decanted humans. Their story is made all the better by the fact Nisha has an ai (sister) named Shift. There is intrigue, and adventure. I loved the story, the characters, and that this is a continuation of another Hissa Warrior finding his fated mate.

These books just keep getting better and better. I love Warik and Nisha but I have to say Shift took the book. They were just so original, funny, and in everyone's ear. And I really enjoyed how we came back around to Raleen. That was a little end that left me wondering in previous books and to have that sweet conclusion to how she ended up where she did was just genius. Cannot wait for the next book in this wonderful series.
