Charlaine Harris has been a published writer for over forty years. Her first two books were standalones, followed by a long sabbatical when she was having children. Then she began the Aurora Teagarden book, mysteries featuring a short librarian (eventually adapted for Hallmark movies). The darker Lily Bard books came next, about a house cleaner with a dark past and considerable fighting skills.
Tired of abiding by the mystery rules, Harris wrote a novel about a telepathic barmaid that took at least two years to sell. When the book was published, it turned into a best seller, and DEAD UNTIL DARK and the subsequent Sookie books were adapted in Alan Ball's "True Blood" series. At the same time, Harris began the Harper Connelly books. Harper can find the bones of the dead and see their last minute.
When those two series wound to a close, the next three books were about a mysterious town in Texas, called Midnight.
A change in publisher and editor led to Harris's novels about a female gunslinger in an alternate America, Lizbeth Rose. The Gunnie Rose books concluded with the sixth novel.
A Very Vampire Christmas is a (very) short story by popular American author Charlaine Harris. Vampires Dahlia and Taffy are Christmas shopping at the Rhodes Marketplace Mall. Dahlia finds the whole Christmas thing annoying, but the firefighter crew of Engine 34 did save her life during the bombing of the Pyramid of Gizeh hotel the year before, and she wanted to show her appreciation. But then, just as their friend Matsudo Katamori arrives, they become aware of a potentially dangerous situation.
Their new sheriff, Joaquin has issued orders for his nest vampires to remain inconspicuous in situations such as these, but Dahlia can’t stand by and see human children suffering. And Taffy and Katamori can’t let Dahlia handle this alone. This is billed as Sookie Stackhouse 10.1, but is better described as a story set in the Sookieverse, as Sookie herself never makes an appearance. After this tale, you’ll see Christmas elves in a whole new light…. Shopping, sex and blood and gore.
Great fun- still have a few left to read. The books are not the same as the TV series so it’s fun to read how these characters change or come to their end.
Very cute vampire Christmas story. I don't remember Dahila and Taffy from the Sookie books but enjoyed the story quite a bit. Would have liked to know who they were related to the vampires in the books we do know, but the story did establish they had their own sheriff a group of them lived with. Was originally published in Glamour magazine (that figures with vampires) in 2010. Link to story is on the story page.
Loved this original short by Charlaine Harris! "A Very Vampire Christmas" features Dahlia Linley-Chivers and her pursuit to shop at the local mall for some Christmas gifts for her "friends." Of course, the store elves surrounding the mall Santa are more than anyone bargained for...
I have read literally every Sookie Stackhouse book in the series....and I cannot fathom why I did. After reading the books AND watching the TV show I thoroughly don't like these books. Sookie is kind of a Mary Sue in the beginning, with her falling for every vampire just because she can't read their minds and vampires are cool. She seems to constantly be getting into situations that she should just run screaming from, dates Bill until she learns he was spying on her for the Queen, dates Eric for most of the books but then they break up because of some dumb reason, and then ends up with Sam who she should've just picked in the first book. The author has so many Southern euphemisms I had to Google every few pages just to make it through, and the idea of Sookie being this irresistible being had me going full on Pam at one point. I am so sick of Sookie Stackhouse and her magical fairy vagina.

Read the first book. It's great fun. I like these adult vampire stories written by female Autors, but this Series seems like the Mother of them all. It is funny, a little bit creepy and actually quite sad, when You think about, what kind of life is this girl living. But the feeling of the South makes it all kind of wild and crazy. Still have the rest of the box to read.
Honestly I loved the book series at first interesting plot, sexy characters and a main character I didn't wanna choke out every time she talked. The quality went down as the books went on and by the 10th and final book you were left feeling empty by the ending. I'd say pick these up if you want a good quick read but don't get too invested or just stop after book 5 and make your own ending.
Long time fan of both the book series and the television series (both for different reasons). If you like the thrill of the supernatural in a more elevated setting than Twilight, this is a good series.
A super fun series with supernatural characters and their multiple interpersonal conflicts. Starts out very exciting and romantic but the end of the series kind of seems like it should have ended sooner.
Didn't see any of the expected characters. In fact, I didn't recognize anyone, so I'm not sure how this very short story can even be considered in the Sookie series.
Was a fan of the TV show, decided to check out the books. Loved them, loved to read more detail than on the show. Recommend for those who are in to the supernatural.
Read this. This series gets reread by me once or twice a year. It has been my friend through so many dark periods of my life, so many happy. I don't know what it is about Charlaine's writing that speaks to me, but she's a story teller. It's especially great in the dead of winter, when you're cold, and can curl up and read about the warm little corners of Louisiana. By the end, you will be invested in these characters. It was so heartbreaking to me when I reached the final one, but the good news is she's given us a gift of thirteen books! You can revisit your friends at any time. They'll always be down at Merlotte's, where Andy will always be in the corner giving vampire Bill a suspicion frown.
A series that started off amazingly and then quickly declined. Could have been so much more. I feel that the last 4 books were written in a rush. I think the author fell out of love with the story.
#10 Read from October 22 to 23, 2014 Format ebook Review 1 star took a long break after the first 9 books -- I guess I am missing the fun and novelty from the earlier books ... the humor seems to be long gone and, at this point, I just want to get to the end of the Sookie series ------------------ #9 Read from November 24 to 25, 2013 Format ebook Review 2 stars no individual review ------------------ #1-8 Sookie Stackhouse 8 Volume Set (Sookie Stackhouse, #1-8) Read from September 23 - October 4, 2013 Format ebook I found this book bundle on my library's ebook service and went on a binge read then I saw the first season of "Trueblood" and stopped right there ...
I haven't read that much about Dalia but this story was fun to read. I never imagined that some things which are so cute and Christmas like can be so evil. I like Dalia and her two vampire friends and I wouldn't mind reading more about her, hopefully she will appear in one of the Sookie Stackhouse novels (while writing this I have read the first 8 Sookie Stackhouse novels). I'm hoping for it and otherwise another extra bonus story with Dalia would be nice too.
Dahlia!!! Loved the Prada purse...Christmas shopping with friend...gifts for the human firefighters...hunk of a lover...evil Santa elves... heart to save the children... what more could I ask?!
Taffy...vampire with werewolf husband...can back to assist friend in heroic deed
Katamori...hunk, heroic and sensual vampire lover
