Me? In love with a fictional character? Of course not! So why was I coughing up flowers every time I thought about the fictional character from my favorite video game?
Areth was a sexy, badass monster and utterly perfect, but none of that mattered because he wasn’t real. If I really was in love with him, I was going die, and there was nothing I could do about it.
This story
Unrealistic size difference resolved by magic; Fated mates; A very small dog; Monster love; Dimension hopping; Wanton destruction of furniture; So very many flowers Fated is a ridiculous 16,000-word novella with super heckin' gay monster sexy times.
Very surprised by this novella, it was too adorable and funny, a bit ridiculous but very entertaining. Fun characters, plot is simple and cute. Got this on audio and Zachary Zaba did a wonderful job narrating both MCs.
3.5⭐ for this funny, short novella with an interesting premise.
It's about a gamer guy who's in love with the demon monster he's playing with and gets Hanahaki disease, which is a disease where the victim coughs up flower petals when they suffer from one-sided love. It can be cured through surgical removal, but when the infection is removed, the victim's romantic feelings for their love also disappear.
"If I was going to die, I’d far rather be it from choking on cock than on flowers." 👀
🟡 Unhinged asshole hot monster with horns/gamer twink 🔵 Size difference 🟢 Age gap - hundreds of years 🟠 Magic 🟣 Another realm 🔵 Fated mates 🌶️ Little smut and good, could be more; dick size difference; t/b
Max is a young nerdy gamer who's throwing up flowers and wilting away, hiding his enormous crush for Areth, the big blue monster from Hellwing game he's playing. Areth is fictional for Max, but as it turns out, he's very real and has been looking for Max for the last 25 years, he's been travelling the known worlds, through different dimensions starting wars and killing people because he can't find the guy.
When he finally does, he realises Max is sick and Areth takes him back to his realm to get better. Max gets treated and then gets intimate with his hot monster, happy to find out that Areth can also shrink to a much more manageable size.
"“Do not worry, I can get smaller.” “You can?…How much smaller?” This was vitally important information and pertinent to the security and well- being of my person."
"“So you can be indoor- sized?” My asshole suddenly stopped crying helpless tears and waving a white flag."
I absolutely loved the monster, loved his loud, loving - but - psycho personality and Max, damn, Max is a lucky guy, point blank. Max is fucking lucky. Getting his own fictional boyfriend and flying off to live in his castle, lying on his man boobs and decorating his horns, I mean...
The cover is so damn promising and begs for a lengthier story, because the ideas are pretty good, but they're just ideas, it's the potential - potential for a really good monster book and I'm really sad the story wasn't developed further.
I hope the author revisits this one and gives us another 200 pages one day. More smut, more of the palace life and definitely more of Areth. 😄
This was adorable. Max’s lungs are filled with flowers due to unrequited love, and that’s a problem, because the person he is in love with isn’t a person at all, but a fictional monster from a video game…or is he? This novella was filled with laughter and a very large monster love interest with an even bigger heart for his human mate. You may not like this if you’re not into massive size differences, but if you are, this is plenty charming and fun.
I’ve never read anything of this type before but this Novella was fun! It was a little ridiculous but was meant to be I think. It made me want to read more.
“Hanahaki: A fictional disease popular in the fanfiction community. According to the lore, a person develops Hanahaki when they fall in love with a person so deeply that they can’t live without them.”
Well, this was just adorable. From the cover to the predictably cute HEA ending, Fated was a quick fun fantasy short .
Zile Elliven is a new author for me and immediately introduced me to the fictional disease of Hanahaki. Lovesickness in all its floral glory. Or is it gory? Hmmm.
Anyway. Max and his gamer friends are instantly recognizable, cheerful and funny. Max’s fated mate? A glorious fantasy that has been waiting for him.
And it’s even got a cute dog too.
I’m definitely seeking out more from this author and recommending this for all lovers of fantasy fiction.
Adorable short story about Max who comes down with ‘Hanahaki’, a condition that causes someone to cough up flowers until the one they love loves them back. The problem? Max is in love with an NPC from his favorite game. He is resigned to his inevitable demise when he meets the object of his affections. Areth is blue, about 20 feet tall, with horns and a tail. Areth brings Max back to his world so his medic can cure Max. They are so adorable together and magic is involved during their sexy times.
I've never heard of Hanahaki or come across it in the fanfiction that I read, but if it's really a thing then I could be into it. I am definitely into the size difference kink here! Max is adorable and Areth is so fun. I feel like Max has a little more depth and development as a character, but, as short as the story is, I'm impressed there's any depth to this. Calling it plot might be a slight stretch, but it's definitely a good story that introduced me to this whole Hanahaki thing with cute characters and world description. It was a very fun and fast read. It definitely puts this author on my radar.
Had to look up what thew fuck Hanahaki is, but his was pretty cute and funny. Wished it was longer and we see more of their relationship and how they act after spending more time together.

Yes! What an adorable and sexy little story! I can absolutely relate to this story as well because there is a game character I am infatuated with. I loved this story and would love if the author added new chapters of the character’s adventures together!
This story is totally ridiculous. If you're not into that, move along. A human falls in love with a video game NPC. He comes down with a fantasy illness. There's interdimentional travel and magic. Somehow, these guys are fated mates.
This was a wonderfully quirky funny quick read. It kept me laughing till the end. Max and Wrath were so cute funny, and I loved how Mitzy wasn't scared of him at all. The author should totally make this a series; I'd read every book.
This book was amazing. It was funny, it was hot, it was perfect. It sat on my TBR for entirely too long. I loved the way it happened. I only wish it had been longer to get more of these two. They were so good together. A gamers dream come true!!
What a bizarrely wonderful idea...I have not heard of Hanahaki before but it is an interesting premise for sure. This short story featuring a gamer and the game character he falls in love with is certainly far fetched, but that is a big part of what makes it so fun. I loved seeing the wall between reality and fantasy disappear in order for the HEA to happen. I would not mind if the author continued writing these stories.
A super sweet and fun short novella. What if we really could get to be with the fictional characters of our obsession? Max is lucky that he gets to find out!
Pretty sure I mostly downloaded this so I could figure out that cover. Oh sure, the short bit of book was also delightful enough for what it was. (Mostly I'm still eying that cover)
