Being told that she was black and ugly was what Ciara was used to hearing. Growing up for seventeen year old Ciara was hard. Dealing with a alcoholic Mother who physically, mentally, and verbally abused her. Being sent to live in a group home was only the beginning of another nightmare. That is until she meets Eric aka Smooth and he turns her life from shit to sugar. It's all good until the sweet turns bitter. Growing up to fast and living in the streets was fine with Jasmine. She didn't want to listen to anyone and loved to break rules. She later found out in life that all rules aren't meant to be broken. Stick and stones don't break her bones. Kelly was a small girl from the block who wasn't to be played with. She did what she had to do to survive. She meets Ant and he chills her heart. Things get hot and heavy when she has to deal with the consequences that comes with the lifestyle.
Goodreads really need to go with no stars or negative star review, because giving it a one star is insulting to stars. This was bad all around, and what made it worst, i prepared myself to buy the others because it's very rare that i do not like a book from true glory publishing. I honestly do not know how it gotten all these great reviews, but they either got paid to make them or they are not reading it. One, too many errors. I usually don't grade on that, but come on. Two, try to be somewhat original. Good girl meet bad boy, man can't be faithful, blah blah blah. Really? Three, it just people talking about nothing. Nothing is happening. Just jealousy, talking, "living that life", i mean come on. It would've been better if they just sat in a room and started to think to themselves and reminisce. And four, it's so damn slow. Chapter after chapter. just talking about something that is not happening. If i wanted to waste my time with a soap opera, i would watch all my children. I would not recommend this, even if you paid me. Seriously, one star, Caryn Lee lucky that that the least she could get. Do not even waste your time with this book.
Gave this book an overall 3.5 stars there were a few errors but had a good storyline. Ciara was raised with an alcoholic mother that seems to have no love for her child whatsoever. In life sometimes there is nothing you can do to deter a child from having that love for a parent. As Ciara moves on in life love has found its way into her life no matter the color of her skin. She has gone through some drama in her life but has overcome so to speak. The love of her life has tons of secrets will Ciara forgive and forget. Who knows. Ends with a bang, so nosy me wants to know what is gonna happen next. Author Lee is part 2 dropping tomorrow? j/k Thanks for a good read.
This had the potential to be a very good book but there were a lot of errors throughout the book. I liked the relationship that Ciara, Kelly, and Jasmine all shared. In the beginning Smooth seemed like he would be the best thing for Ciara but as time passed he just showed he was the typical guy and regardless of who held his heart, he wasn't changing. As for Shawn, he could've just kept his relationship a secret because it was better then. Ant tells too many lies for no reason!!! I just hope all the girls are able to find the men that will actually have more respect for them. Aww I hope Ciara and the baby will be ok. Will she finally find out about little Erica?
This book kept me glued and I finished it in a few hours. I felt sorry for Ciara in the beginning but she kept it together. I really hope her and her mother find each other. I thought Smooth was going to wife her when she got pregnant but he didn't so now I'm waiting for all his mess to blow up in his face. The rest of the crew is typical men, gotta stick they pole wherever they can and side piece never measure up to main, wifey. Not surprised
This was an enjoyable read. I had to take off points for the numerous grammatical errors, but overall I enjoyed the storyline. I liked Ciara and her 2 best friends. They all had their issues growing up. They grew up and were looking forward to living out their dreams, but life kept getting in the way.I have to get part 2 to see how things turn out.
Brenda was a single mom angry at the world and especially to her daughter Ciara. When got busted Ciara was taken to a group home where she meets her bff’s Jasmine and Kelly. Jasmines parents died and Kelly’s parents were locked up leaving her brother Shawn to care for her . These bffs got goals and sticking to them. Smooth sees Jasmine as his beautiful black queen and he calls her “BLACKBONE’; but, SMOOTH also has a scraggler KAYLA who would rather die than to be without Smooth. Jasmine believes in her man and has no reason to trust him until…. Kelly is dating Anthony and he of course is doing his dirt so when she finds out , she will not give in easy to take him back. Jasmine has a lover but is waiting on the right time to announce it to her girls! Maybe they should have a get to get her with dinner? All these ladies are on they way up but the gold diggers, all the money and women throwing themselves….temptations are at every corner and these young ballers cannot resist. When someone from the past calls Smooth to advise she had a baby with him, he is floored and scared to tell Jas. Ebony hopes she is having Anthony’s baby and SHAWN IS NOT SOO INNOCENT EITHER! Part 2!
From the group home to their own homes, three young ladies are finding their way through the world. Money is good, family hasn't changed-except that they became family for one another, and men are...well, the men they chose. The drama is constant, the chaos is flowing, and these friends ride thick through it all.
The editing here is, at times, poor. That's the biggest issue with this book. Otherwise, it's a good, easy read.
Great read. Hopefully I’ll find out if Ciara & her mom reunites. I also hope Smooth gets busted for hiding his daughter from Ciara. Looking forward to finding out what happens in part 2.
It was a really good book. I like the fact that it can be relatable to real life things that happen everyday. Only thing I didn’t like was a few grammatical errors.
Sorry to say this was the worst book I've read for quite some time. Clearly, trying to be black culture, but I'm pretty sure most black people aren't just money hungry, promiscuous, bad mouthed idiots. This is the impression that is strongly given throughout this story. This is unfortunate because the characters could have been really good, with interesting lives and back stories.
The grammar throughout is awful, and a lack of vocabulary makes the writing seem childish and only adds to the uneducated feel of the characters. The story is also lacking, as nothing of note happens. Seriously, this book could have been so much better.
This book was filled with errors. Auto correct is not editing. This was the typical story about dope boys, their "wifeys", and crazy side chicks. The story line also seemed rushed. The synopsis speaks of abuse the main character suffered but you only get a few flash backs of her past. I also would like to know why this book is titled BLACKBONE? There was a set up for an explanation as to why she was given that nickname but the author dropped the ball and didn't tell the story. Another typical poorly edited urban book...
This book was pretty good but the errors were very distracting and always takes away from a book in my opinion. I feel we pay good money for this entertainment and I know authors work very hard, but editing and grammar is VERY important too!! I normally buy every sequel to a book because I just have to know the ending...gonna pass on this one right now...
I enjoyed this story and will definitely read the other two. I probably would have given it five stars but the editing was that good. The characters were believable and made you wonder about their lives. Ms. Lee is definitely one to look out for.
The beginning to end I love it. A few misspelled words here and there. The editor missed a lot of flaws but overall great storyline and characters. I hate you for the ending but I'm definitely reading 2... I seriously felt like I was watching t.v. great job..caryn lee we should collaborate..
The book was good but there were so many grammatical errors that I just couldn't enjoy it like I wanted to. I seriously had to keep putting it down and coming back to it and I passed the time by highlighting all the errors as I went. Maybe it was intentional in order to tell it from the character's point of view but I just couldn't get over them.
Jasmine, Ciara, & Kelly bonded together through hard times. That is what I call a true friendship cause they are always there for one another. Now the men they picked need to realize the beautiful women they have before it's to late.
This was a good read. The plot was well laid out and the story was easy to follow. However, there were too many run on sentences and typos for my liking. I plan to read the other series, but I am not in a hurry.
