I found this series many years ago back in ye olde Shojo Beat days and was frustrated to learn it was permanently shelved so the author could focus on the more popular Ouran Host Club. Which, okay, yeah, I get, and I was okay with that.....until I saw the Millennium Snow Easter egg in the anime. Then I burned with fiery rage and forever refused to read the Ouran manga!!
Then a week ago, I decided to bury the hatchet and be the bigger person (it had NOTHING to do with needing a pallet cleanser after watching Goblin Slayer, I swear). And as I was reading, I decided to check and see if maybe, just maybe, the series had been revisited in the 10+ years since I last checked. Oh man, I was so excited when I saw it had been finished! My husband warned me I was overhyping it and it could only disappoint me at this time.
So, did I overhype it too much? Was it a disappointment?
NOPE!!! I LOVED IT!!!!! *squeeeeeeeeeee* XD
Chiyuki’s little evil side was absolutely precious and how she kept saying “OMG isn’t this cute when Touya does this?” and everyone around her was all “uhhhhh, no, not in the slightest, WTF is wrong with you”.
I will say there were times when it felt like the author forgot about Satsuki entirely—pretty sure he was absent for half if not all of an entire volume—and I thought the introduction of Kaede was going to be more significant then it ended up being. I’m assuming the author originally planned for a longer series akin to Ouran, but because they’d been gone from this story for so long, probably just couldn’t get fully back into their original vision. So parts of the story do feel a little rushed and/or half-finished.
All that being said and setting my obvious fan-girl bias aside, this is a short read with good characters and a nice blend between drama, comedy, and romance. The ending is... forgivable, is the best way to put it without spoiling anything.
Anyway, back to my pallet cleanser....
