I like leadership parables/fables/stories. I think they are a unique way to convey practical advice in a “non-academic” way. Patrick Lencioni and Mark Miller are gifted in that regard. So now is Kathy Stoddard Torrey with her book ELEVATE YOUR EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE. What I find unique in this concise, readable, book is that at the end of each chapter, Torrey moves from parable to practical, with steps that we can take to implement the concepts introduced in the parable. And at the end of the book, a QR Code directs the reader to more resources. Highly recommended!

I loved this easy-to-read parable. I found myself becoming vested in the family and I most certainly could identify with their various actions and reactions. The summaries at the end of the chapters proved to be an excellent way to apply the principals just learned. Kathy's ability to keep a group excited and engaged during a virtual training translates quite effectively to print. READ THIS BOOK! It is a wonderfully refreshing approach to learning about Emotional Intelligence. ELEVATE YOUR EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE does not disappoint!

I’ve read several business parables before so this book’s concept had me interested immediately. The content was as valuable as a counseling session but in a much more conversational style.

I’ll admit, the plot was a little bit cheesy at points but it actually helped reinforce the principles being taught. The story format made the content immediately applicable because I was able to easily associate characters in the book with people I interact with on a regular basis.

I would be very interested to see what is next for this author!!

Thank you Weaving Influence for the ARC!!

Kathy Torrey’s choice to present the fundamental principles of Emotional Intelligence in a memorable and easy to follow story prompts me to recall and put into action her 5 Steps. The vivid descriptions and details of her characters had me visualizing their every emotion and expression as Maria presented her husband with ways to create better relationships with his adult children and in his workplace. I highly recommend this book!

A quick read that gives you actions you can take to help teach you how to improve your emotional intelligence, all while entertaining you with a wonderful story of a husband and his dead wife. Each chapter ends with a summary and a section for you to give you things to ponder or do which you learned about in that chapter.

In this book, Kathy Stoddard Torrey maps out the terrain of emotional literacy with clarity and humor. She has turned it into a story between a widower and the ghost of his wife. It's poignant and at the same time funny. Learning was never easier or more fun.

If you read only one book on emotional intelligence, make it this one

Easy to read, simple concepts, and powerful results. That’s the best way to describe this book. I just finished it and already have a plan to read it again.

This is a unique book. I enjoy parables, but this is the first one where one of the main characters is dead. Once you get past the fact that Maria dies in the opening, then you can settle down and enjoy the journey she leads her husband John on to gain emotional intelligence. Torrey’s book is short and simply written; however, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot of meat to it. She outlines five steps that can help readers improve their emotional intelligence. Each step is carefully explained and modeled, so you can see how it should work. At the end of each chapter there is a summary of key points and exercises you can do to help you become aware of things like your frame of reference, triggers, reading the room, and creating a peaceful foundation.

This was an amazing book! There were several times it felt like the author was describing my own life and made it compelling to try out the activities at the end of each chapter. This is one of the most practical books on emotional intelligence I have ever read. I encourage everyone to read this book especially for those who need to make a change in their lives in how they relate to themselves and others.
