Jasmine Young is the nobledark fantasy author of over 15 titles to date.
When she was thirteen, she first dreamed of becoming published after devouring Eragon in a few days on Grandma's couch. As a once painfully anxious introvert, her exposure to fantasy started with hiding out in the library with a great book.
Thirteen years later, her tomboy dreams came true.
Today, she is known worldwide as a part time hermit and a full time rebel. She is also the proud mother of birds. The family currently lounges in Florida.
When she’s not reminiscing about her gaming days or getting lost in old epics like LOTR, Jasmine writes a blend of epic, romantic, and dark fantasy to entertain and empower, especially the underdogs.

This is a prequel novella that runs parallel to a Breaking of Realms. While it isn't necessary to that book, it provides another layer from another perspective and really adds to the dragon lore of this world. Jasmine is creating a Game of Thrones level world with the magic system and the dragons.
This is a great prequel, it has actually made so interested into reading the series. I think the only downside of this series will be that I can’t wrap my head around the names of the characters and world. This book overall is interesting and peculiar.
Love the writing style that Ms. Young employs for this new series. It borrows from the old Viking tales in rhythm and words in a wonderfully entertaining way.
The Bael that falls, careening out of control, screaming for help will most certainly be found. We just don't know by who in this preliminary short story. It certainly whets the appetite for more and while we are given the first chapter of the next book in the series, we still don't know who finds him. But we are given some clues.
I can't wait to read the next (full-length) book from Ms. Young, sure to be out before Christmas this year.
A Descent of Dragons is that tasty tease of a novella that whets your appetite for the main course which will be A Breaking of Realms. I already can't wait!! You're getting a book steeped with vikings and perfectly balanced together with dwarves, dragons, and more! You will be devouring this book and holding out your hands to the author saying "please, may I have some more?" Yes, you're getting a taste of the first chapter of the new book, but it only leaves you wanting more and with a high sense of anticipation. I can't wait to find out what happens next! This novella is a great introduction to a new series and one not to be missed.
I did like this overall. The premise captivated me and has me wanting to read the first book in the series. My struggle was trying to grasp the Viking style names and world. I’m hoping each book has a glossary or something that helps with hour to outline the names.
You’re thrown right in with this prequel short story with no background or buildup, which I thought was nice. You’re getting little birds of information and world building as the short story progresses. It was a bit confusing trying picture in my mind how things were supposed to be.
I wanted it to be longer, but understandable why it was the length it is.
What a wonderous joyous prequel her writing style is written in that of the old Vikings. She carries that rhythm along almost as if she is reading the story in your ear - you can just hear it. I fell in love with this work. This is the first novel I have read written by Jasmine Young, and I was totally engaged. Her writing is excellent. The plot line well defined. Her characters are well developed and strong. What a delightful introduction to the new series. I recommend this novel. You will not be disappointed with this electrifying adventure. This is my true and honest opinion.
This is a short story about a dragon hatchling but it is no ordinary dragon, it is a realm breaker and the last of its kind. It is forced to hatch by those who want to harness its power for themselves however the hatchling fears to hatch and cries desperately for help but no one answers. He fears he would be forced to do what his ancestors had done and despairs. This story is very touching, I felt so sad reading it and just wanted to save the hatchling who just might be the realm breaker. I love dragon tales so look forward to reading the series.
A wonderful introduction to Young's new epic fantasy tale. After his traumatic hatching, you already want the Bael to live, no matter what history says. And Skaldar, gutsy and determined, must be the perfect match for him, if only they can find each other. Can't wait for Realm Breaker to release. I just love the covers, the Bael looks gorgeous and suitably dangerous. If you're not signed up to Young's newsletter, then you should sign up now!
So, picture this: someone’s trying to find a dragon egg, and bonded dragons have been used for terrible things (I guess like weapons of mass destruction). Welcome to A Descent of Dragons.
The world-building here is strong, the kind that makes you sit up and think, yeah, I want to see where this goes. Elves, dwarves, there’re all mentioned here and best of all dragons.
It reads like a trailer to the main book. Designed to get you invested. And it works. I’m ready for the main course.
Yes yes yes. Finally an epic dragon book! 10 out 5 stars! I only learnt of this series today, signed up for the newsletter and the author sent me this as a free download. The writing is magnificent. I felt the terror. I feared for his life. My heart broke with his grief. After 2 x DNFs and 3 x 1 to 2 stars to start off the year this short story utterly blew me away and I want more. Book one has been bought. It can't get here quick enough!
A Descent of Dragons is a novella from the point of view of Atallgaard. It opens up the world and you get to see few events through his eyes. Atallgaard is resting in his egg; when he is forced to hatch and he is also forced to bond but he has memories of his parents flying and he flies away breaking through the Realms.

Listen! It's an everyday problem. Can we open up and listen? How can we leave a positive mark? I like how the author describes the conflict, the longing to learn from history, avoid the same mistakes, and find a better way. A great introduction to the main story. I recommend this book to any fantasy lover who appreciates a bit of truth.
A fast-paced story that provides a sneak speak into the World this author has created. It made me feel the fear, anxiety and helplessness that hatchling felt during these moments.
A must read before starting this series. The Author provided the story for free after signing up for her mailing list.
This is a quick prequel that sets the scene for the Realm Breaker series. I actually read Book 1 before I read this one but it gave the dragon/Bael side of the beginning of the story which was wonderful! It would definitely whet your appetite and leave you needing to read the rest of the series!
This was a super short and sweet prequel. If you loved the main book this is a great way to get some insight into the realms and see a bit of what happened before.
It’s baby Bale’s time to shine and shine he did in this short story! This prequel novella lets us follow Bale’s journey from when he was hatched to how he got to Midgaard (it’s happening simultaneously as A Breaking of Realms’). Poor little guy had it rough from the start, but it explains a whole lot of things that I, for one, had questions about. We’re still left with a few questions about The Fallen and such, but this story is starting to fill in some missing pieces for us. Once again, there’s such a seamless flow between books/stories which really makes me appreciate Jasmine’s writing style. You can’t skip over this one, be sure to pick it up!
[Also to note: I read this after I read A Breaking of Realms, so I already understood the foundation of the world building, characters, etc., which is why this novella actually filled in a couple of blanks for me. With that being said, with the books running parallel in time, I don’t feel as though I missed out on anything by not reading A Descent of Dragons before A Breaking of Realms.]
A Bael falls through the realms of Dwarves, Elves, Dragons, and human realm. He senses a Realm-Breaker not sure what to think. He is hoping someone will hear his call for help. This a short story that will keep you reading and wondering what to expect next. Looking forward to book 1 in the series.
