From the world of Dirty Bertie comes a new star! A brand new series from David Roberts, creator of Dirty Bertie, Angela Nicely is already well known to Bertie's fans. Angela might look like she's made of sugar and spice and all things nice, but nothing could be further from the truth! Angela knows best! Whether it's trying to succeed as a top model, proving that her head teacher wears a wig, or finding herself out of her depth on a spa weekend, she's determined to make a splash! Angela Nicely is the first book in this fantastically mischievous series. Perfect for little girls who are fans of Dirty Bertie.
It seems that Angela always has been a bit naughty, and apparently doesn't learn a lesson from what happens in her life. :P Though I guess her plans to sabotage her nemesis Tiffany are working quite fine for her (as seen in this book, and the other book as well). They do backfire, but then something happens that makes everything even better.
This time we have 3 new stories. The first one is about Angela thinking her teacher is wearing a wig (and all her plans to find out), then we have a story about modelling (and the hilarious events that happen there), and lastly Angela's mom feels fat so she goes to a resort and takes Angela with her. My favourite would be the last one, as I loved how Angela and her mom got along, and how Angela helped out her mom.
I felt a bit sorry for Angela's friends, as she kept dragging them with her into trouble. Though then again, I am sure the girls could have said no. But I guess that way they won't know who was right in the end.
Of course the book has illustrations (still my main reason to read this book) by David Roberts, and I really loved seeing them pop up at regular intervals in the book.
All in all, this was yet another delightful, laugh-out-loud Angela book, and I hope I can find the others someday too.
I read this book with my 7-year-old daughter over three bedtimes.
The book includes three separate Angela Nicely stories, each four short chapters in length.
Angela Nicely is a girl dressed in a pink dress and a massive pink bow upon her head. She has the look of an innocent little girl, like butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth. But really she is a mischief maker. Sometimes this lands her in trouble, and at other times it works out well for her.
The three stories in the book are:
* Miss Skinner’s Wig! * Supermodel! * Healthy Holiday!
The first story sees Angela transfixed by the head teacher Miss Skinner’s new hairstyle. She is sure it is a wig. “Prove it” says her friend Maisie. “Maisie always thought she knew best, but this time Angela would prove her wrong.” And so Angela goes about making mischief, with a little help from a Super Suction Arm.
The second story sees Angela trying to become a model ahead of “goody-goody Tiffany.” Again Angela makes mischief to try and ruin Tiffany’s photoshoot, except things don’t go to plan, although Angela does get her wish at the end.
And the third story sees Angela being honest with her mum (“you’re not fat, just a bit squidgy”), but still getting told off for it. This leads to the two of them going on a healthy holiday (“Are you flabby? Saggy? Baggy as an elephant’s bottom?” reads the promotional material for the health place) where Angela thinks she’ll be able to use the swimming pool all day. Except it isn’t like that, with things not being to Angela’s liking. Again Angela gets her own back at the end.
So you get three self-contained stories, in an easy-to-read format that suits the 7-year-old reading level. There are black-and-white pictures along the way too and the stories all have satisfying conclusions to them. It is worth getting. My daughter said it was good and fun and she liked it how sometimes Angela got it wrong.
Not age appropriate for a 6 years old at all! My daughter has brought the queen bee book from school , we’re trying to read it as a bed time story then I was shocked! totally disappointed .. it is about helping the teacher to find a new boyfriend as she was “dumped” by her boyfriend .. first my daughter was asking what does “dumped” mean! Then the story about the girl herself who is a kid breaking up with her boyfriend for hundred tinned! And the way describing the teachers as ugly, bold and looking bad is not something to accept too! And that’s all in the first couple of pages.. I reported it to school and they apologized and confirmed to remove all the series from the library thankfully!
Büyükler bazen çok alıngan olabiliyordu. Her zaman ona doğruyu söylemesi gerektiğini tekrarlayıp duruyorlardı ama söylediğinde de bundan hoşlanmıyorlardı.
Angela Nicely is a feisty young woman who might look like she is all sugar and spice and everything nice but nothing could be further from the truth! The book is split into three different Angela Nicely stories, each of which brilliantly showcases how much she gets into mischief.
I read this book to a Year 4 class over the course of two weeks and even though it is mainly directed at young girls, all of the children seemed to enjoy it thoroughly. It is perfect for modelling how to read with great intonation because of all the characters and voices you can do.
What a fun read. Three short stories about Angela Nicely who tries to be so good but really falls far short of the mark. She also happens to be Bertie's neighbour - from the Dirty Bertie series. Each story is just 4 chapters long. Accompanied by black & white illustrations.
