Rating: 5 Stars!! Review: This was my first time reading The Washington Series by Wanda so i wasnt sure what to expect even tho i seem to enjoy all her other books so i thought "why no try this one out?!".
The Characters were fun and interesting to read about. Tabby was definately my favorite since i felt bad for her and her stuttering but was glad that she took up a hobby to help with her confidence.
The Setting was beautifully described which made me feel like i was actually in Washington State while reading especially when the scenery was described.
Can't wait to read more books in this series soon!!
Talking For Two by Wanda E Brunstetter is a delightful contemporary Christian novel that warmed my soul. It is the third book in the Washington series and also part of A Heart Warming Romance Collection. The tone is light-hearted and highly amusing at times. The book revolves around the theme of voice – a characters stutters unless she is operating a ventriloquist dummy. We all need to find our voices, if we cannot do it in our strength we can lean on God and do it in His. Trust is a major theme. We need to trust God because He will never let us down. We need to believe the words He speaks over us and not the words we hear in our heads that put us down. We witness a character with little self-esteem. Her earthly parents have broken her spirit. In contrast, God will always build us up as He calls us beloved. I really enjoyed Talking For Two. It is positively charming. I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
I have come across these stories, non Amish as the books Mrs. Wanda has written more of. But I might say, I loved them. They are sweet, full of God's scripture and Unconditional Love. They truly have you hooked and enjoy.
This story is about Ventriloquist. Seth has a business fixing up puppets. He is outgoing and loves to share the message of God through his Ventriloquist routines he does at church. And Tabby is a shy, timid young lady that works for the church day care. She has so much hurt inside that she stutters too much. But together they find a way to focus on what's really important a heart full of God's love rather than the outside. And to move forward and use God's talents given to us can also shed away even the thing that we most think will never go away.
It is a story that I really enjoyed reading about Ventriloquist, and wonderful characters.
I have enjoyed other Brunstetter titles in the past so I thought I would give this a go, but I probably should have passed when I saw what it was about. I have always found ventriloquist dummies creepy and off-putting, which might be why I did not find any of the routines in the book to be particularly funny or clever. Tabby's family dynamic was sad and bizarre and I could see why it would lead to her anxiety, but I admit to becoming impatient with her for resisting and even resenting her good friend's efforts to help. I also found the turn-around at the end to be a little too abrupt to be believable, but I applauded her decision not to estrange herself from her family although she had every right to do so.
Absolutely a delightful story, with many messages in it. One wonders if puppets, and dummies were used today to help kids overcome problems such as shyness if it would help. With love helped restored a courage to be herself. Recommitting to God, that she was worthy. Beautiful told story and of a friend who was her Earth angel to push and help her as needed.
I really enjoyed this book! I'd never read a non-Amish book by the author, but I think I actually liked it better than her Amish stories! The plot was rather unique and engaging, though very religious in nature. I liked connecting with both of the main characters and could definitely understand some of Tabby's insecurities regarding her family. With how well I enjoyed this, despite its brevity, I'll be looking for others of this type by the author!
I enjoyed parts of this book and definitely enjoyed the ventriloquism aspect much more than I anticipated but beyond that, it simply wasn’t my favorite. I related immensely with Tabitha and was disappointed by some of the thoughts and views the male lead had toward her and her personality and struggles. He did learn otherwise in the end but I would love for her to have been more embraced as she was throughout.
I had no idea this book was even available or written. I found it when searching the public library for books by Wanda Brunstetter. It was written in 2002 about two unlikely people who fall in love because of a shared interest in ventriloquism. One is very shy and stutters; the other owns a repair shop for "dummies". A good read with Christian values throughout.
It's a very simple story, propably you've read something like this because it is like the basic love story plot. Nothing spectacular about the way it is written but I honestly enjoyed it.
