My (Un)Lucky Charm: The Boys of Summer: Book One

Rate this book

The last thing I needed was another disastrous date orchestrated by my mom, destined for epic failure. So, before she could plan another disaster, I bailed out of the country without a plan.

Things started looking up when I sat next to a handsome man with dirty blond hair on a 15-hour flight. But it was short-lived when a series of unfortunate events was thrown our way, derailing our adventure.

My five-year relationship was in a rut, and despite my efforts to reignite the spark, it ended in a colossal disaster when I discovered my boyfriend cheating with not one, but two men. So what did I do? I ran as far away as I could and found myself on a 15-hour flight.

Things started looking up when I sat next to a charmer who had a smile that could melt even the most cynical man—me. But it was short-lived because he wanted something I couldn’t offer.

Fun and sweet!

I didn't realize how much I needed this book. I was in a reading slump but I think Yoshi and Cahill have pulled me out of it. Once I picked this up I couldn't put it down. I loved Yoshi's enthusiasm for life it definitely made a difference in Cahill's life as the calm and heartbroken man was looking for alone time but instead found love on the sea. I really did love these two.

A Real Feel good Book

It was so good to catch up with the lovely Yoshi and Cahill again. Garry first wrote their story as part of the Cruising Anthology but he has brought them back and the story is now almost double the size of the original.

Yoshi first appeared in Garry’s series From The Ashes, book two All The White Lies We Tell, where he was a young rookie in the Japanese Olympic skiing team fighting for a medal and making firm friends with Isaac and Foster.

This story picks up when Yoshi is in down time and back home with his overly protective and funny mom who only wants him to be happy and keeps setting him up with dates, some very undesirable! To get out of her latest set-up Yoshi lies and then has to follow through so as not to upset his mom and so we find him spending a fortune on a cruise around the Philippine islands.

Cahill is unhappy and lonely, surprising as he has been with his partner for eight years. He decides to try and reignite the romance and spend more time with his workaholic boyfriend but this backfires spectacularly when he finds out what his boyfriend really gets up to at “work”.

Cahill flees and finds himself booking a cruise around the Philippine islands and whilst trying to get a plane ticket to Manila sees a gorgeous man eying him up in the queue.

This is the start of a funny story full of disasters as well as good times and chemistry off the charts. Yoshi is a sunny, glass half full guy who makes it his mission to get Cahill to smile more.

The addition of the epilogue was fitting and heartwarming, this lovely couple deserved their HEA.

The trip they both ended up taking on a whim to get away from reality got them the best outcome they could possibly hope for.

Beautiful MM love story and I would definitely highly recommend it!!!

My (Un)Lucky Charm was the sunny escape I needed!
Yoshi and Cahill both have their reasons for needing to get away, each impulsively booking an intraisland cruise to the Philippines.
Of course, spontaneity has a high pricetag as they find out - only business class available for their last minute flights. As they bond during their 14-hour flight, you’re going to fall in love with these darling men as they fall for each other.
Yoshi won bronze skiing at the last Olympics, but still lives at home. On a training break, he told his mom he’d booked this cruise to get out of another disastrous set up. (The last one may have had a few felonies to his name.) He’s 19, horny, and absolutely adorable.
Cahill finds out his longtime boyfriend (who is a freeloading POS) is also a lying liar who cheats in the most awful, public way. He impulsively books the cruise to escape. He’s 28, successful, and unsettled.
So begins Yoshi and Cahill’s Epic Vacation.
This book was such a delight. A fast friendship turned vacation romance, it’s sweet, sunny, and very sexy. (Note to self: look for VRBOs with outdoor showers.)
Garry packs so much heart into this novella. The vivid descriptions of the Philippines make it sound like heaven on earth. Even as they miss their ship and have a series of misadventures, both take time to appreciate the beauty around them.
Yoshi’s optimistic enthusiasm and Cahill’s strong, steady calmness are the perfect combination.
There’s a HEA and a swoony epilogue that was just **chef’s kiss***

A ray of sunshine

💕 I’m so in love with the Asian representation. Yoshi is a fun and carefree character, yet at the same time, he has these little moments when circumstances just seem too big for him to handle. They are brilliant and give us a glimpse of the vulnerability of this strong, confident young man.

They also allow us to see Cahill as the protector and caregiver that he truly is. I love it. After years with his ex left him as a man he no longer recognized, this was a beautiful revival of his spirit. From Hawaii to San Francisco to the Philippines, we were lucky to travel with him. From places of sorrow to places of immense joy.

Together, Yoshi and Cahill show us what it is like to cherish and to be adored. Their smiles and laughter spill out without thought. It’s gorgeous. It’s contagious. The whole book paints a vivid sight to behold. From the landscape to the blossoming love between them. A ray of sunshine.

Yoshi and Cahill are just perfect

If you need a quick read to take your mind off real life then this book will be perfect. Yoshi and Cahill both needed to escape and a chance meeting was just the start of their adventure. Cahill was such a sweetheart and Yoshi, young and vibrant, was just the distraction he needed to forget his ex. No nonsense tip toeing around, they get straight to it. I loved the lucky charm story and I hope we get a story from the person who finds it! A gorgeous epilogue, gives us a glimpse a year later and a HEA is on the horizon.

Cahill & Yoshi

What with his mother trying to set him up again and Yoshi suffering a dry spell the cruise he decided to go on on a whim was sounding more inviting. Cahill wanted to get away from his cheating ex and he booked the cruise in a whim as well but either expected to find each other .

It was a fun treat to join Cahill and Yoshi on their summer adventure. The story is sweet and spicy and perfect for a quick fluffy low angst HEA. I was hooked from beginning to end easily getting swept away into their world.

TW/CW : There is cheating but not between our MC's and there is mention of death of family members.

This is the perfect feel-good read! It made me smile so many times. Yoshi and Cahill are adorable, and they are proof that love doesn't always have to be extremely complicated and angsty. Sometimes, it just clicks, and it's beautiful.
