This was a nice read, with fun characters Lola and Willow. Who meet somewhat by chance, feel an unexpected connection, and both keep important-feeling secrets. Lola’s is never really revealed? That feels like a missed opportunity. Willow’s comes back to bite them (at that point the surprise is more in the how than in the fact that it happens at all), and it’s largely instigated by one person.
I guess the reason I’m not going with five stars is that I’d have liked this to be a bit longer. That one person caused a lot of angst, and I really wanted to see them get their comeuppance. But it never happened? The whole story moved pretty quickly into wrap-up mode and they were barely mentioned again and it was pretty much only to say things worked out OK. Sorry/not sorry for the schadenfreude, but I needed that person to feel a bit of the pain they caused! Also, with a bit more run time maybe we could have dived into Lola’s background a bit more. Some more depth would have made her feel more real, I guess.
Still, for a relatively short work, this was fun, and I’d be happy to read another.
