Sweet story about Mother's Day that celebrates the diversity of families. All families don't look the same--and this one gives nods to a variety of families--included ones headed by a single dad--who get their due on Mom's Day!

This book, in my opinion, did not touch on Mother’s Day despite it’s title. Each crayon did say how it loved it’s mom/parent, which is to theme, but I was looking for something that more talked about the holiday or preparing for it. I did like how inclusive the spectrum of mother figures were but was confused by how some crayons had a parent that was a crayon & others had glue or paint as their parent. Though I’m sure that is not something that my toddlers got hung up on, it seemed inconsistent & was distracting for me as the reader. Also, I may not know the lore, but “Barfy Crayon” was tacky. It was a fine book, if you can look past all of this & you are just want something showcasing different crayons loving their mother figures, but I would not check out again.

A nice way to celebrate Mother’s Day within a child’s favorite universe of characters. Drew Daywapt threw in some crayons we haven’t seen before. He also makes sure to creatively add diversity, acknowledging stepmothers, grandmothers, two mothers, and single fathers. It retains some of the humor from the original, though it’s more downplayed just from the nature of the story here.

This is a clever concept, using crayons to help visualize diverse families. I liked the wide variety of qualities the young crayons adore about their parent(s). I was confused by the maroon crayon who has a beard, which implies he's an adult. So I guess mama glue is holding onto her grandchildren? Or she has like 20-year spacing of children. Barf crayon is whatever.

I absolutely adore the Crayon books and this one hits especially close to home for me! I love that the author was inclusive of all moms and even the dad's pulling double duty! Well Done Drew!

It was ok. Kinda cute but not as silly as some of the other crayon books.
