I feel like this just way too adorable starter comic set might’ve been one of the best purchases I’ve made of late I mean going from the first issue into this one, you just have to love and appreciate the friendly messaging and tone mixed with appearances of still some of the best in my opinion of the old school sesame crew. I mean I can’t remember the last time Bert, Ernie, and ducky graced me and my sons eyes together in modern stuff and aside from wanting to sing him the tub song afterwards, I found myself ready to read this one all over again
The neighborhood swap meet is coming up on Sesame Street, and Ernie is having trouble parting with objects that still spark joy in him. Bert helps Ernie realize that Marie Kondo isn't the be-all end-all on the matter and introduces to him the concept of Swedish death cleaning.
Rest assured, Rubber Duckie is never a candidate for the discard pile, but we do get legacy roller skates!
Being a homemaker and creature of order, I sort of like how I've described the story above, but I do have to remind myself that it is poorly written and drawn, and it was painfully embarrassing to read aloud to my family knowing I had been the one who selected it from the library.
12/19/2025 - The explanation of what a swap meet was got to be very repetitive. It really had more to do with that than spring cleaning. I think of airing out the house and cleaning windows when I think about spring cleaning.
What even is this? Bert and Ernie don't show up at all until several pages in and no one does any Spring Cleaning. Instead they explain what a Swap Meet is four or five times, misleadingly making it sound much more charitable than it is in practice, and then peer pressure Ernie into giving up things he wants to keep for sentimental reasons. And it's a comic book masquerading as a picture book on top of all that. Truly awful.
