WARNING: This is not a traditional love story. This book does not end in the normal “happily ever after.” There are no wedding bells at the end, no love being professed, or long walks on the beach. If that is the type of story you want this book probably isn’t for you. This book is fiction and contains material that some readers may find offensive.

Bethany Sterling comes from a privileged family, one that believes in modern-day marriage arrangements. On the outside, she plays the part of the perfect daughter, but on the inside, she is looking for another way out. She hides what she really wants in life because showing her dreams and aspirations is a weakness she can’t afford to reveal.

As soon as Abe saw her he knew that he would go to any lengths to make her his. He is trained to be lethal, stealthy, and have no remorse in his actions. His needs take control of him until he is nothing more than a machine intent on following his plan.

Bethany finally gets her to wish for a new life, but it isn’t how she envisioned it. Now with Abe she realizes that his need for her runs deep. She shouldn't want him, but she is also compelled and attracted to him.

It is those turbulent emotions pulling her in different directions that will have Bethany deciding how far she is willing to go.

I love an obsessive, commanding, grumpy man and Abe was exactly that.

"He was arousing her by this peacock show of arrogance, and overall assholishness."

But parts of this were so frustrating; it got to the point were I wanted to scream FUCK ALREADY! Boy Abe was a wind-up, he wanted her to beg for it and how she lasted that long I don't know. Clearly I would have been a wanton hussy around that man.

Anyway I liked it.

I love reading dark romances, so when I saw this one at the top of Amazon’s charts, I had to pick it up. Sadly, I was beyond disappointed.
Bethany lives in a “prison.” This is really a loose term. She’s rich so she’s expected to dress and act a certain way. At this point I started to dislike her. She’s in this life, yet she judges her best friend for dressing the way her parents expect her to. Not a very good friend. Also, Bethany starts her whining at this point. She never stops.
Abe is a bodyguard for Bethany’s father. He calls himself sadistic, but really, I didn’t get it. Never once did I get an example of it. I mean really, just calling yourself something doesn’t make it true. In his first POV, we get told over and over about how he’s such a bastard, an asshole, and how he’s evil. But like I said, it never explains what he’s done.
Abe kidnaps Bethany because he’s in love with her and wants her to live her real life. When Bethany first wakes up, she thinks about Abe. She’s seen him around, but never thought much beyond that. And cue the insta-lust. Because, really, we all get kidnapped and can’t help thinking about how sexy our captors are. The relationship never gets any better. Beyond looks, Abe must have low standards when it comes to women because other than Bethany pouting, she has zero personality.
Can you tell I thought Bethany was awful yet?
As Bethany stays with Abe over the course of a week, she spends more time thinking about how horrible her and how sexy Abe is than actually trying to get out. I mean really, she gives him a blowjob willingly! Like the second day! Bite that dick off!
In the end Bethany realizes that living with a kidnapper is better than having your life dictated. While I can see this working, Bethany and Abe have zero chemistry. They never speak other than Abe repeating how Bethany is his and her denying it. The relationship is so forced and ridiculous. On top of that, the author tacked on an epilogue that was just laughable. No point, no depth. Just there to drag out the book some more.
There were enough typos too. Not every word, but enough to pull me out of the story. The second word is a typo. How much was this edited? And the sex scene was off too. I’m sorry but anal sex is painful without lube. This idea of using a woman’s fluids as lube is stupid. You need something or else it will hurt, and the fact that they sex rough anal sex without lube shows just how little the author knows about the subject. There is no BDSM either. Tying a girl to your bed is not BDSM. Kinky sex, maybe, but not BDSM.
The only positive I can say is that this book presents a good idea of what dark romances shouldn’t be. Shallow. Vacant. Boring. At times painful to read.
Math equations are more entertaining.

Very one dimensional in characterization and storyline. Man kidnaps women; essentially taking her from one prison and putting her in another. Titillating but not engaging in the least. I am pretty much over dark erotica and forced BDSM.

I've found myself on a bit of a reading slump lately so I'm on a mission to search lil old gems from my favorite authors to hopefully help it. And this was definitely the one!!!
Jenika Snow rarely disappoints 👏🏼
This was a novella with my absolute favorite tropes: a stoic, obsessed and demanding Hero, a sad and little lost but feisty nonetheless heroine, kidnapping, rough messy seggs and dubcon and some sweet endearing moments as well. Keep in mind this story was nothing new nor a super dark or shockingly harsh one whatsoever, for my standards at least, but it was delicious and exactly what I was in the mood for. Sigh... Captive romance really is my weakness.
My only wish is that this were a full-length book:( 1000% would recommend🔥

Well, that was quite.. thrilling!
It was unconventional. But they did fit in. Stockholm syndrome at it's best. :))

TENSE AND GRIPPING STORY

To the outside world Bethany lives a life of privlege, she's been to the best schools, wears designer clothes and has a handsome fiance. So you'd think she'd be happy, but she's not. Her clothes and fiancé have been picked out for her by her parents. She'd like to escape but she doesn't really have the courage to do so. But that decision is taken away from her when her father's personal bodyguard Abe kidnaps her. Abe has worked for Bethany's father for the past year, from the first moment he laid eyes on Bethany he knew she would be his. No one would prevent him from getting his way, he is a lethal killer.

This is a darker story than I'm used to reading from this author, but I have to say she did this really well. I liked how she didn't wimp out on making Abe become softer or vulnerable. He's a cold and calculating killer, and he stays that way. If he has a weakness it's Bethany, but even then he has complete control of himself and her. For her part Bethany is shocked as to why Abe has taken her, she has noticed during the past year while he worked for her father his eyes on her, watching her, she knows he's very dangerous a predator. There is lots of emotion between these two, Bethany is confused by her feelings towards Abe, she finds him attractive but is disgusted with herself for doing so. The authors warning that this is not a hearts and flowers romance is spot on. But it is a gripping and hard to put down book.

This novella consumed me right from the beginning until the very end. Although it wasn't as dark as I thought it would be, but hell, it was twisted as fuck. I love how the H was truly, madly, deeply, and insanely obsessed with h to the point of and to save her from the hell that her life once was. I especially love reading some parts of the story from his perspective. He wasn't the abusive type of hero to his heroine, although he But nonetheless, I find him more of a passionate yet dark lover who marks the heroine as his and would try to kill anyone who'd take her away from him. This story has no fairy tale ending or rainbows or flowers or unicorns or wedding bells or whatsoever but in a way, they end up Well damn. I am definitely looking forward to reading more of JS's novels :)

3.25 stars. Abe was a twisted man but yet so gentle too.I loved him.lol I'm glad this wasn't as dark as I thought. Yes he was possessive and maybe a little of a sicko but he wasn't going to let anyone take away what he wanted and he wanted the h no matter what!! He wasn't your usual abusive kidnapper( there where times I felt he got alittle rough but nothing too extreme). Bethany was great too . I liked her and the fact she never gave up :) enjoyable twisted read:)

Bethany Sterling is the controlled asset in her family's not so gentle care. Abe is the head of her father's security, that decides to steal her for his own, with, or without her consent. This is a dark read, with a forced seduction, Stockholm syndrome theme. It was a decent read, but could have been more fleshed out.

My review contains spoilers and they're mostly my thoughts as I went with the book... for more, visit Punya Reviews...

I’ve been treading the thready path of dark erotic romance for a while now, yet I don’t feel like reading every author out there, not knowing what kinda impact the story and it’s characters will have on me. I decided to read Jenika Snow’s HIS solely because the blurb interested me.

I shouldn’t have been so apprehensive about this one. I found nothing that dark in it, except for the fact that our ‘hero’, Abe, who was working as the head of the security of our heroine, Bethany’s super rich father when he decided to kidnap her to make her his.

Bethany has never wanted for things, material things to be precise. But it was real affections that she has always craved. Her parents are as rich as they’re cold, as if bloodless. Fighting with their disappointment to gain a bit of their acceptance has grown old. Bethany has long since resigned to the fact that someday she’d have to marry according to her father’s wishes, wherever his business transactions and profit lay, however it can ‘up’ the Sterling name in the eyes of the people. The same general public that Sterling and his wife look down upon. Until the day she’s kidnapped by Abe, Bethany didn’t have the courage to protest any of it. By that time, she was already engaged to an a$$hole, a young copycat of her father’s.

Abe was the mysterious figure, or so the author tried to made him look like. There weren’t enough background on him to judge anything, expect that he trained as a killer quite young. No more idea was given about his life prior to that. I’m not sure how he got hired by Sterling as his chief security guard but the moment Abe saw Bethany, he wanted her. And that sealed the deal. He planned everything very stealthily, and efficiently, the way he has been trained to eliminate a target.

Bethany never even had a clue about Abe, except that sometimes she’d find him staring at her intensely, and that his looks made her shiver with forbidden excitement and anticipation, not disgust. But she also knew she couldn’t risk an affair with him. For one, she’s not the type. And then, she can’t ruin her family’s ‘good name’. When she wakes up in a cabin hidden in the middle of a dense forest, Bethany is scared to death. Realizing who did it, she’s confused about it all. No matter what Bethany thought of Abe, this was not something that crossed her mind. Not even once.

Abe generally keeps her chained to a wall. I feel the need to mention it because from the narratives, it sounds so... inhumane? But I never felt anything like that. Bethany was never treated in any way other than a human. She had her own relatively comfy room and could move around the cabin, albeit with the chain. She was fed and treated as fairly as a twisted guy can. Abe didn’t want her to run away, yet he also wanted her to start trusting him gradually. I didn’t see anything ‘dark’ in this story per say to term it as such. Abe, though sexy, wasn’t even a true villain IMO, never really causing any knot of fear in my stomach. But I definitely won’t make the mistake of calling him ‘sweet’. Though his demonstration of it was rather strange, he loved Bethany in his own way. Or maybe because it was a novella, I never saw any glimpse of his complete loco side. Yes, the author tried to drum it throughout just how seriously f*cked up he is but those were only words. There was no action, expect for that said kidnapping, to back up the claim.

Then there were stuff that didn’t feel right. The apparent restrictive way Bethany was brought up didn’t match with the narratives of the glitzy socialite lifestyle she claimed to have had. One moment, it felt like she was living like an Amish, the next she’s talking about shopping and doing her fingernails! Her chemistry with Abe was lacking at first. Quite a lot. There was also a decided lack of twisty-dirty sex. I needed to feel the ‘animal’ in Abe that was so insane about Bethany. Unfortunately, there weren’t much of it.

What I truly liked was the last few chapters. That the author didn’t make Bethany out to be a complete pushover; be the martyr and take whatever she’s forced into. She fights Abe, tries to flee a few times, succeeding once, only to find that Abe’s ‘love’, or whatever one can term it, had been much more genuine than whatever her parents’ dished out all her life. She takes it as an eye-opener. Bethany cuts all ties with her parents, trying to build a life on her own. But she has already tasted ‘the forbidden’ that is Abe Sparrow. And the hard truth was, she craved him even more now that she’s not with him.

True to the blurb, the ending was ‘unconventional’, as in, you won’t find any traditional HEA here. But I liked whatever I saw in that relationship. Hell, I can even see them marrying some day and have a family. But that is just my take on their future.

Overall, it was alright. I liked HIS enough to try out some of Jenika Snow’s other books. 3.5 stars. If you want to read something seriously twisted and f*cked up, try Skye Warren’s Dark Erotica series.

Meh. The couple lacked chemistry and emotion. I've read other captive stories that were sexy and riveting but this was just flat all around. Thankfully it was a short read or I would have DNFed.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Bethany is rich... well, her family is and she is obliged to act as they tell her to and marry who they tell her to. Only, she doesn't want to. She hates her life. She wants to escape and live her own life. Too bad she is too afraid to actually do anything about it.

Abe has watched from Bethany's father's side as he head of security, but after a year he can wait no longer. He has to take her before she is married off to the jerk her father has set her up with. Abe doesn't know emotions or feelings only his obsession with Bethany makes him feel anything. She is his even if she isn't aware of it yet.

There is a great development of the characters through the story. We get to see Bethany realize what she truly wants/needs from life and it isn't the way she was living before. Abe may go about it the wrong way, but I think its the only way she would have discovered the truly lousy life she was living. Abe develops some emotions and shows that she is more than a possession and more than a play thing to him. He isn't conventional, but his feelings for her are real and he's determined she see that.

I loved this story, it was very well written and the pacing was great. I think the only thing I had an issue with was that it was a bit too emphasized for me the situation and her feelings on it. But that could be completely personal preference so I only knocked off half a star as the rest of it was great. Good job Jenika.. I'll be looking for more of your work for sure since Dark Erotica is my favorite genre!!

I was lucky enough to be granted an ARC of this novella by Ms. Snow and boy was I glad.
This isnt your typical boy meets girl.they fall in love quick. have no problems and ride off into the sunset.
No this book is about two people who are attracted to each other, without letting the other know.and the road to love was at times a struggle.
The story is written in such a way that from the beginning you find yourself wanting something more for our heroine and fearing she would be condemned to a life of unhappiness with what her family is expecting of her.
Abe is our wonderful alpha hottie of this story and is just brash enough that just by reading his starting POV you find yourself lusting after him quickly. He knows what he wants and he will get what he wants even if he has to use unconventional methods.
I was addicted to this short read from the first page and was sad to see it end.You could feel the strength of the attraction between our couple while reading it and you feel their happily ever after isnt going to happen.Never fear they do get the HEA but it isnt an easy time getting there.
This book is somewhat dark but dont let that word put you off this book.It isnt very dark just somewhat and was never bad enough to make me cringe or want to quit reading about this luscious couple.
This book does have dual points of view which I love reading as it is always interesting to see what is going on in our male leads mind.Especially Abe's.
If you love a book that allows you to see how a man obsessed with his only true love acts then you will not be disappointed with this book.I gave it 5 stars and would love to read more of this beautiful couple's life after all is said and done.

~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads Review Team~

The book is a little dark, not as dark as I have read but still could be too much for some. I personally loved the book. It wasn’t your typical flowers and unicorns kind of book, it was a little twisted. Bethany’s life was one of those that if you looked from the outside in you would think she has the perfect life, money, looks, an upcoming marriage to a rich guy. Her life was anything but perfect, she wanted to get out but couldn’t because it would damage the families name. Abe wanted Bethany as soon as he saw her, so he took her and proceeded to possess her and consume her and own her.

Characters: The characters were relatable; you could understand where each character was coming
from and why they were doing what they were doing. I know some might find it odd but I loved Abe.

Sex: oh yeah and it was HOT

Religious: no

Would I recommend to others: yes

More than one book in the series: not sure

Genre: Dark Twisted Romance

Would I read more by this author: yes

'His' took me on one hell of a ride! I was gripping my e-reader so hard at times, i thought i'd break it!

Somewhere in the middle of the book, the plot thickened and Bethany was chained by her leg. She and Abe were having a real honest conversation about life and how they got to where they both are in their lives. One thing lead to another and Abe was on top of Bethany, grinding his c#ck against her and then pushing his hand in her panties until she was seeing stars and then out of nowhere a fight ensues, as Bethany grabbed a fork and tried to stab Abe. Just wow! This is a short snip-it of the good stuff in this book.

My best way to describe the writing in this book is... Delicious! I was either drooling at the hot and sexy scenes or biting my lip so hard, that my teeth left imprints on my lips.

Abe was the hottest alpha male ever! Always teasing and f#%king Bethany. From his stoic charm to his devilish good looks, he captured my attention from chapter one! I also liked how he tied Bethany up but never resorted to full blown bdsm. He never beat her with paddles or whips. He just had rough passionate sex with her. :)

The ending undid me. I cant believe Bethany's family's reaction to her return. My jaw dropped and stayed that way the whole chapter.

HIS is the first book I have ever read by this author and it was definitely a tense and seductive dark story.
I know many readers "say" they don't like non-con sex or even dubious-con sex and there is a group of people who are anti anything that has a woman forced into a relationship whether or not she eventually submits.
I happen to "get" the appeal of this type of romance...and yes, I do think it was a romance...albeit a very non conventional one...but it made me feel something for Abe and Bethany. I felt like a voyeur reading this book but that also appealed to my sense of adventure and while kidnap and almost forced intercourse are not usually appealing, the life Bethany was taken from...her disgusting "fiance" and her less than loving parents...made me side with Abe, even though he used a drastic method to get what he wanted (and what Bethany NEEDED).
I loved the twist and how the book ultimately ended. It was perfect for me and I really did appreciate this short but very intense erotic book.

I love this author....her writing got me hooked on PNR so there's nothing from this lady I won't read...her styles unique and every book I'm hooked.

This isn't your typical love this story...it's gritty...it's raw and some may say the love they develope isn't healthy...but you know what screw that.

This couple start out not trusting each other only to learn that each other is the only ppl they can trust...there bond is deep and by the end of the book unbreakable..nothing will get between them.. So while there start is unconventional bare in mind no two ppl could love each other more than this...

First of all i think everybody have a different taste on novels they like to read or they into. I like something like this, the hero is very possessive and wants her so bad that i think it’s really hot tho. The girl wants him too but at first she was just scared but he took her by surprise and she never thought something like him will happen to her because she never have someone that wants her to be happy. Happy ending! It’s kinda short but if you want a quick read novel with hot smut on it then go read this.

This was an ok read. My main problem was that the h only seemed to go to the H bc she had nothing left. I didn't think she had any real feelings for him. It was sad to see the h struggle so much with her family and go through such a traumatic experience with the H. I usually love these type of intense heroes but this guy was missing something. He wasn't gentle and he allowed her to leave. If he was really as crazy about her as he said he would do anything to keep them together.
